Amazing Apps: Woodstock Lives Again on Your Tablet PC

A new iPad app is bringing Woodstock back to life.

Like an interactive coffee table book, On the Way to Woodstock, selling for $6.99 on the Apple App Store now, offers myriad diversions including photos, videos, songs, narrations and artist biographies of the iconic Sixties music event. A high-tech timeline of pop culture history, it uses audio clips, short videos and surrounding articles to illustrate how the social climate in the 1950s and 1960s gave birth to the historic 1969 concert festival. Featuring more than 45 hours of video and 100 color photos from Woodstock photographer Barry Levine, the app’s certainly not light on extras, including support for beaming audio wirelessly to your speakers or Apple TV.

While its scattershot, kitchen-sink approach makes it more of a 21st-century scrapbook than defining chronicle or pensive rumination on the event’s import, though, look on the bright side. Today’s generation will find it an enlightening peek at one of music’s most famous cultural touchstones, while baby boomers can fire it up for an instant, all too brief ride on the Wayback Machine.
