Rolling Stone Joins Forces With Twitch For Two-Night SXSW Showcase

Rolling Stone Joins Forces With Twitch For Two-Night SXSW ShowcaseRolling Stone Joins Forces With Twitch For Two-Night SXSW Showcase

After a two-year hiatus, SXSW is back on the streets of Austin—and Rolling Stone is, too. We’ve joined forces with Twitch to present a two-night SXSW showcase on Tuesday, March 15th and Wednesday, March 16th at the historic 3TEN ACL Live theater. Look for the statue of Willie Nelson outside, then come in to see some of the most anticipated acts playing this year’s festival. If you don’t have a badge or can’t be in Austin, the only thing you’ll miss are the tacos because each night every performance will live stream on Twitch.

Folk rock songwriter Paris Jackson pairs with the electronic-infused alt-rock of Sasami to headline night one. Jackson released her debut album, Wilted, in late 2020 and proved she was ready to carry on the Jackson family legacy. The release highlighted Jackson’s ability to make melancholy melodic, pairing airy vocals with grand, echoey acoustic songs.

Sasami became one of the fest favorites at SXSW 2019 for her ability to deliver energetic stage shows again and again (and again). Expect more of that tireless rock this time with some new work mixed in—Sasami just released her second album, Squeeze, at the end of February.

Night two puts indie rock darlings Japanese Breakfast and LA rockers Girlpool at the top of the marquee. Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner has become one of the hardest working and most beloved musicians around with the release of her third album, Jubilee, last year. It became a critical favorite, ultimately earning the #10 spot in Rolling Stone’s 2021 Albums of the Year list. Soon after, Japanese Breakfast soared towards two Grammy nominations and prominent slots at 2022 festivals like Coachella, Governors Ball, and Wilco’s Solid Sound.

And though it’s been a few years since Avery Tucker and Harmony Tividad, the duo behind Girlpool, unleashed a new album packed with their pop and punk-tinged brand of DIY rock,  they’ll also have new sounds to share at SXSW. The band recently announced a new release, Forgiveness, coming in April, and lead single “Lie Love Lullaby” hints that Girlpool’s lovable edge remains intact.

Both nights of Twitch x Rolling Stone at SXSW will feature six performances, meaning there’s plenty to see beyond the headliners. A trio of rising artists who’ve found their audience on Twitch—pop singer-songwriter Andrea Russett, Austin’s own moody rocker Susannah Joffe, and the 80s synth-pop loving Closure—will go from stream to stage across these two days.

Scottish crooner Joesef will bring laid back, introspective summer vibes to the spring on Tuesday. Perhaps NYC’s buzziest young rock act, Geese, delivers some angular grooves and glam vocals on day two. The latest act in a long lineage of genre-bending alt-rock from Georgia, Mattiel, will take ACL’s intimate stage after opening for Jack White on an arena tour during the band’s last album cycle.

Soak in the full lineup below and follow twitch.tv/rollingstone as soon as you can in order to be notified when the stream goes live. There’s music to see no matter where you are in mid-March.
