Best known as the mouthpiece of Virginia metal outfit Lamb of God, Randy Blythe is also a book author (you can read an excerpt from his powerful new memoir, Dark Days, here) and an avid amateur photographer. He shares some his most striking shots on his Instagram account, which Rolling Stone recently named one of the 100 Best. Here he reveals five of his favorite accounts on the photo-sharing platform:

Brian Brown

“Brian is a friend of me and my guitarist Mark [Morton], and an up-and-coming young photographer from Richmond, Virginia. I go shooting with him from time to time, hook him up with guest list slots when I can, and I’m always very impressed by the progression of his work, especially his live band shots. Keep your eye on this kid – I foresee good things for him.”

Quentin Vogel

“Lamb of God was in South Africa, so I messaged this dude on Instagram and said, ‘Hey, will you come take me around Cape Town to shoot? I’ll guest-list you.’ Quentin showed up and took me on an all day photo journey – I had started following him because he was a Lamb of God fan who shot beautiful portraits of the people of Cape Town. Great dude with an awesome eye for the South African landscape and streets!”

Acey Slade

“This is my bro Acey Slade, best known as a musician [Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Murderdolls, Dope], but he has developed into quite the photographer. I really enjoy Acey’s shots of NYC life, and we’ve gone shooting in the abandoned subway tunnels a time or two together. Always a good time shooting with my homie!”

Kevin Wilson

“Kevin is the owner of Sacred Gallery in Soho, the spot where I had my first photo exhibit. Besides being a true supporter of the arts, Kevin likes to make art himself – his trip is going into dirty abandoned old buildings and shoot pictures of decaying, probably toxic, subjects. Some people like it grimy!”

“Yet another friend of mine from up north, Doug is a NYC firefighter and first responder who travels to disaster stricken areas to do rescue work and provide aid. Crazy little fucker, Doug is, and he see’s a lot of crazy stuff. I encouraged him to get a camera and take photos of some of the stuff he encounters during his travels. His eye for abandoned buildings has gotten quite sharp.”
