Maren Morris scales down her signature swagger for a contemplative, solo acoustic version of "I Wish I Was" in an installment of CMT's Next Women of Country Live. The latest round of online-only performances launched last week with Kelsea Ballerini's rendition of "Underage."
For her appearance, Morris offers a restrained-yet-powerful solo take on "I Wish I Was," from her Grammy-nominated album Hero. Allowing notes to linger a little longer than her studio version, this performance plays up some of the singer's jazzy inflections along with her trademark grit.
Morris, who is nominated alongside Ballerini for the all-genre Best New Artist at the 59th Grammy Awards, will share the stage with 2002 New Artist winner Alicia Keys for a special duet. The pair previously performed together on a 2016 episode of CMT Crossroads. This year, Morris is also up for Best Country Album, Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance. The Grammy Awards airs live from Los Angeles February 12th at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
Upcoming episodes of Next Women will include performers such as Jana Kramer, Danielle Bradbery, Maggie Rose and Cassadee Pope.
