The Old 97's stopped by Late Night with Seth Myers last night and brought a special guest with them: Nashville's "first lady of outlaw country," Nikki Lane, who sings on "Good with God."
The band kicks off the dark barnburner with some frenetic twang from guitarist Ken Bethea before giving way to a haunting verse from frontman Rhett Miller. He and Lane trade vocal duties throughout the performance, with Lane lending both harmony vocals and singing lead on the second verse.
The studio version of "Good with God," off the Old 97's forthcoming album Graveyard Whistling, features Brandi Carlile in Lane's place. She serves as the voice of God referenced by Miller when he sings, "I'm good with God / I wonder how she feels about me?"
Lane's latest album Highway Queen came out earlier this month. She'll hit the road on her Highway Queen Tour beginning Wednesday, February 22nd in Birmingham, Alabama.
Graveyard Whistling is due out February 24th. The Old 97's kick off a run of United States tour dates on February 25th in Ponte Vedra, Florida.
