Nashville Renaissance woman Nikki Lane has been making the stops on the national TV circuit in promotion of her third record, Highway Queen, which came out in February. But on Saturday's CBS This Morning, the native South Carolinian released a special treat along with the First Lady of Country Music, Loretta Lynn, performing the latter's Number One "Don't Come Home A-Drinkin' (With Lovin' on Your Mind)."
Filmed at Lynn's Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, ranch, the clip features Lane and Lynn sharing a couch with a sleeping dog, joining their two unique voices rather than blending them and trading verses. Accompanied by acoustic guitar and Telecaster, the pair has a unique chemistry, which Lynn attempted to explain.
"I felt like we always knew each other," Lynn told CBS, adding that they may have met in another life. In addition to Lynn's classic, Lane also performed her songs "Jackpot" and "Send the Sun." Watch those performances below.
Lane is back on the highway with shows in New Mexico, Kentucky and Nashville before jumping over for a European leg of her tour in late May into June. She then returns for the U.S. festival circuit, hitting the Newport Folk Festival and Pilgrimage Music and Cultural Festival. Meanwhile, Lynn has plans to release her new album Wouldn't It Be Great on August 18th.
