Ahead of its February 24th release, Aaron Watson has shared a couple new tracks from Vaquero, the highly anticipated follow-up to his 2015 number one country album The Underdog. Listen to "These Old Boots Have Roots" above.
The anthemic love song opens with fiddles that manage to evoke Coldplay and confident, polished vocals from Watson that recall fellow country storyteller Dierks Bentley. The big, exuberant chorus reflects the newfound pop sensibilities also seen in the album's lead single "Outta Style," which Rolling Stone Country premiered in late 2016.
Watson also released the Vaquero track "Texas Lullaby," a tender ballad about a soldier leaving his Texas home while his love anxiously awaits his return. Listen to "Texas Lullaby" below.
Watson recruited a stacked roster of co-writers for Vaquero, including Mac McAnally, Leslie Satcher and Kendell Marvel. He co-produced the album with Marshall Altman.
In 2015, the Amarillo, Texas native broke records with The Underdog, becoming the first independent male country artist to score a number one first-week debut on Billboard's Top Country Albums Chart. He's currently touring through the summer.
