"You Never Can Tell," Emmylou Harris

Thanks to Uma Thurman and John Travolta's slick dance skills in Pulp Fiction, "You Never Can Tell" (sometimes credited with the added "C'est La Vie") is one of Berry's best-loved tunes. Cut by John Prine in 1975, for his Common Sense LP, it surfaced a year later on the Emmylou Harris LP Luxury Liner, which would reach Number One. Released as a single, it would become her fifth consecutive Top Ten hit and a perfect showcase for her raw rock edge. In 2005, Chely Wright included a lively version of it on her Metropolitan Hotel album.
