Watch John Oliver Break Down 'Cool Stepdad' Tim Kaine at DNC

Comedian raves about VP pick's lame dad jokes, awful Trump impression on 'Late Show'

John Oliver unveiled his budding obsession with Tim Kaine on 'The Late Show,' dubbing Clinton's VP nominee, "America's stepdad"

John Oliver detailed his new obsession with Hillary Clinton's running mate and America's "cool stepdad," Tim Kaine on The Late Show Wednesday.

The Last Week Tonight host joined Stephen Colbert to discuss night three of the Democratic National convention, which featured moving speeches from Vice President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama. But Oliver was stuck on Kaine, shouting out all the "Kaine-iacs" in the crowd and lauding the VP pick's dad jokes, terrible Donald Trump impression and face flexing.

"He is a tall glass of Lactaid," Oliver said. "I've never seen anyone more about to break into a harmonica solo than that man."

Elsewhere, the two former Daily Show correspondents joked about how refreshing the DNC has been after the doomsday prophecies spouted at the RNC. "The Democrats did the thing you always do at a political convention that the Republicans forgot to do, which is to say, 'Great country, it's gonna be greater,'" Colbert said.

"It's an incredible thing to forget to say for four days," said Oliver.

At the end of the interview, Colbert had Oliver respond to to a new Gilmore Girls teaser in which Lauren Graham's Lorelai wonders if the comedian would find her hot. Oliver dutifully responded with a dad joke worthy of Tim Kaine.

Netflix has revealed the premiere date for the 'Gilmore Girls' revival. Watch here.
