The Ponzi scheme-aided rise and $50 billion fall of Bernie Madoff will be the subject of an upcoming ABC miniseries, with Richard Dreyfuss in the role of the now-imprisoned financier. ABC has unveiled the first trailer from Madoff, which examines how Madoff lured so many investors, the downfall of his Madoff Securities and the impact that it had on his family. The miniseries begins February 3rd.
"You want to know how to get people to trust you with their money? You present it as an exclusive thing," Dreyfuss' Madoff says in the trailer. "Nothing on Earth makes people want something more than telling them they can't have it." The miniseries also stars Blythe Danner as Ruth Madoff, with Charles Grodin and Lewis Black in supporting roles, The Hollywood Reporter writes.
Madoff is one of two television projects devoted to the investment advisor, who was arrested for securities fraud in December 2008 and subsequently pleaded guilty to 11 federal felonies, resulting in a maximum sentence of 150 years in prison. HBO is working on the Barry Levinson-directed Wizard of Lies that stars Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer as Bernie and Ruth Madoff.
