Reggie Watts is such a master improviser, he can turn droid bloops into funk loops. James Corden's Late Late Show bandleader brought out his "muse," Star Wars: The Force Awakens droid BB-8, for an intergalactic jam during Tuesday's show.
"I've been working very closely with this muse," Watts says in the clip, teasing their jam session. "This muse is the inspiration for almost all of my music – everything after age 13." After introducing BB-8 to Corden by translating the droid noises into English, he samples those sound effects into a soulful groove led by the show's house band. "BB-8, you make me feel so good," Watts croons. "So many circuits going back and forth … You're an inspiration for a generation."
A crew of EDM musicians recently teamed with producer Rick Rubin to create Star Wars Headspace, a compilation LP featuring original music (from acts like Flying Lotus, Röyksopp, Galantis and even Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams) blended with sound effects and dialogue from the iconic sci-fi franchise.
