Lip Sync Battle returned to its late-night roots Friday as Jimmy Fallon and Seth Rogen entered the Tonight Show arena to determine who could pantomime better. While the Fallon vs. Rogen battle lacked the insane theatrics of the Spike series, the Sausage Party star used a secret weapon – the Roots – to claim victory.
Fallon opened things up with an impassioned take on Kent Jones' Hot 100 hit "Don't Mind" before Rogen recruited the Tonight Show house band to accompany him for a "live playback" of their "Mellow My Man" off the crew's 1995 LP Do You Want More?!!!??! Rogen, a lifelong Roots fan, even used Questlove's trademark afro pick as a microphone.
Fallon retaliated by reviving Onyx's 1993 hit "Slam," but Rogen cemented his victory by throwing on a gray turtleneck sweater and copycatting all of Drake's gif-able dance moves from the "Hotline Bling" video.
Also on the Tonight Show, Rogen reminisced about the time he was tasked with following a surprise set by Jerry Seinfeld, Fallon's first guest Friday, at a comedy festival:
