Showtime has released the official trailer for Season Five of Homeland, which returns to the network on Sun, October 4th.
The story picks up two years after the end of Season Four and finds Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) in self-imposed exile in Berlin, grappling with her disillusionment and the fallout after a disastrous stint in Islamabad. No longer a CIA agent, she is heading up the security detail of a German philanthropist when hackers uncover a U.S.-outsourced surveillance program in the European country.
Things only grow more convoluted when our heroine is photographed with a mysterious woman connected with hackers on the day of the data breach. "You can take the girl out of the CIA," she tells Carrie. "But you know." From there, the trailer descends into a melee of assassination plots, social unrest, ticking time bombs, drugs, kidnappings, Mandy Patinkin angrily blowing his top and the show's in-house "fixer" (played by Rupert Friend) doing what he does best.
Homeland Season Five is currently still in production in Berlin, making it the first American series to shoot entirely on location in Germany. Along with Danes, the new season will star Mandy Patinkin, F. Murray Abraham, Sebastian Koch, Miranda Otto, Alexander Fehling and Sarah Sokolovic.
Homeland is also up for five Emmys this year, including another Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama nod for Danes (she previously won in 2012 and 2013), Outstanding Drama Series (the show also won in 2012) and Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama for Abraham.
