Netflix has unveiled the gripping first trailer for the fifth season of House of Cards, which arrives on the streaming service May 30th.
"The American people don't know what's best for them. I do. I know exactly what they need," Kevin Spacey's President Frank Underwood says in voiceover to his wife Claire, played by Robin Wright.
"They're like little children, Claire. We have to hold their sticky fingers and wipe their filthy mouths. Teach them right from wrong. Tell what to think and how to feel and what to want. They even need help writing their wildest dreams. Crafting their worst fears. Lucky for them, they have me. They have you."
The intriguing trailer shows Underwood on the campaign trail as he attempts to retain his presidency against a strong candidate, all while dealing with the mix of backstabbing, manipulating and intrigue that has become the backbone of the acclaimed political drama.
Spacey's character also hints at his desired, constitutionally unfeasible reign of power: "Underwood, 2016. 2020. 2024. 2028. 2032. 2036. One nation, Underwood," he growls.
