Conan O'Brien has made the most of his trip to South Korea earlier this year. In segments airing this past week, the host has already taken cringeworthy Korean lessons and donned make-up and tight pants for an over-the-top K-Pop video with Walking Dead star Steven Yeun. Now, O'Brien faces what may be his biggest challenge: starring in a Korean soap opera.
The bulk of the hilarious clips finds the American attempting to say his lines in Korean, breaking character and flubbing lines that have been written for him phonetically. In One More Happy Ending, O'Brien plays a man who visits a matchmaking service in search of a bride, only to realize he's in love with the matchmaker. "If I sign up for this service," O'Brien says in Korean. "I can't start something with you."
In typical O'Brien fashion, the clip is a mix of faux-melodrama and ridiculous goofiness, as the host eventually nails his lines with all the seriousness of a soap opera star. He also appears as a fish for reasons that remain unclear.
