Stephen Colbert doffed his blue wig, leashed up his pet weasel Caligula and literally stormed the stage at the Democratic National Convention on The Late Show Monday.
On his "Hungry for Power Games: DNC Edition," Colbert sauntered around the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia being a general nuisance. "Here at the DNC all lifestyles are welcome, be you gay, straight or pain in the ass," Colbert cracked, pointing to a "gluten-free zone" sign. Later he stood on a delegate's chair and tried to start a "Lock her up" chant.
But the majority of the segment found Colbert futilely trying to ditch security and stand at the DNC's main podium. However, with staff well aware of his antics at the RNC the previous week, neither Colbert's podium pass, nor a good word from Nancy Pelosi could get him onstage.
But Colbert persevered, attempting to woo security with a rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner" and leading them on an obnoxious chase around the convention floor. Finally, Colbert made a break for it, rushing past security and proclaiming from the stage, "God bless America, God bless freedom of the press, God bless the Democratic National Committee, God bless podiums!"
