Four years after Josh Groban sang Kanye West's tweets on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the crooner returned to the program to give a similar treatment to today's most talked-about celebrity: Donald Trump. On Monday, the singer participated in a Kimmel spoof commercial touting, Josh Groban Sings: The Best Tweets of Donald Trump.
Thanks to some overly sincere interpretations by a man who jokingly claims to have "the voice of an angel," The Best Tweets of Donald Trump boasts such "hits" as "Barack Obama’s birth certificate is a fraud" and "Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart. She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again — just watch."
"Donald Trump's tweets will make you laugh, will make you cry," Groban cracked. "But mostly they’ll make you cry."
True to form, the faux-compilation also features a handful of "Ether"-esque diss tracks. On the bonus cut "Losers and Haters," Groban, with zealous aplomb, slams the titular scoundrels who dare challenge the Republican presidential hopeful's I.Q. Elsewhere, Groban ably channels Trump’s vigorous fury over people retweeting Jon Stewart’s nickname for him — "Fuckface Von Clownstick" — into a tender ballad.
But wait there's more: The Best Tweets of Donald Trump also features a jaunty rendition of Trump's announcement that he's running for president, and a bombastic ode to his fragrance "Success," available at Macy's — but don't skip the contradictory follow-up, "Macy's stores suck and they are bad for U.S.A."
Late last month, Kimmel recently ran another Trump bit that showed how the G.O.P. candidate front-runner's favorite word appears to be "disgusting." Despite the criticism, Trump continues to lead polls. He also caused a stir with an appearance at the Iowa State Fair over the weekend when he flew in on a helicopter emblazoned with his name. He even brought a few kids up in his chopper with him.
