For fans of How I Met Your Mother who felt betrayed by the grand finale last week, the show may have a chance to redeem itself. The show's co-creator and executive producer revealed that an alternate ending exists, and will be made available to motivated viewers.
Carter Bays tweeted the news on Friday, announcing "for those who've been asking" that the alternate ending will be included on the Season Nine DVD and in the series box set.
The long-running series ended on March 31st with an episode that took a few unexpected turns, including death, divorce, and the reunion of Ted and Robin, which some fans felt violated the spirit of the show.
"If you didn't like the finale, I guess that happens. We tried something and it didn't connect with you. I hope we're still friends," Bays wrote, before sharing the good news.
"16 days ago today we were in the HIMYM edit room, trying to decide between two very different endings. We only shot one script, but through edit room magic we had two possible outcomes for the series. We chose the ending we chose and we stand by it. But we loved the other version too."
The How I Met Your Mother Complete Series DVD Collection is due out this fall.
