Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are both judges on the upcoming season of The Voice, a competition that emphasizes singing ability, so it's only fitting that Jimmy Fallon forced the two vocalists to pantomime other people's songs in the latest installment of his much-loved Lip Sync Battle. Shelton and Stefani made a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to face off against the late night host in this decidedly non-singing competition.
The undisputed winner of this Lip Sync Battle was Shelton: His hilarious take on Taco's rendition of "Puttin' on the Ritz" is up there with the best Tonight Show lip syncs courtesy of Emma Stone and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The country singer also busted out Starship's Mannequin theme "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" before closing out the competition as the Diana Ross to Gwen Stefani's Lionel Richie on a lip dub of the duet "Endless Love." Before the Starship lip sync, Shelton instinctively coughs as if he's actually going to sing, to which Fallon quipped, "You don't have to clear your throat for a lip-sync."
Stefani whipped out all her No Doubt dance moves for her "performance" of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe." Stefani also poked fun at her infamous mispronunciation of The Colbert Report at this year's Emmy Awards, first calling Fallon "Jimmy Kimmel" and then saying his name as "Jimmy Fallen." "We'll fix it in post," Fallon joked. While Fallon is usually the scene-stealer in these "battles," Fallon took it easy this time around, choosing Ellie Goulding's "Burn" and Spike Jones' rendition of "Cocktails for Two" as his lip-syncs.
