From female superheroines to cyberpunk hackers, the year's small-screen highpoints

25. 'Narcos' (Netflix)

Much like the shiny white powder it chronicles, Narcos is pretty much impossible to dip into casually — one dangerous taste and you're diving face-first into the whole supply. This bilingual binge-bait follows the rise of the world's most famous drug lord, Pablo Escobar, as the U.S. cocaine plague makes a rich man out of the kid from Medellin, and makes a dead man out of many of his business associates. It's like a high-speed Goodfellas times Carlos, with a side order of Ice-T's "High Rollers" video. Pedro Pascual, the Red Viper who stole so many scenes on Game of Thrones, shines as the DEA agent out to nail him, despite his pallid blonde partner's oft-irritating voiceovers. Narcos has criminal adventures so complex, you can't believe they really happened. Except they did.
