The Magic Numbers

Two sets of siblings, one set of killer power-pop tunes

WHO Two brother-sister pairs who have been winning over audiences since they formed in an English high school three years ago. Friends Sean Gannon (drums) and Romeo Stodart (guitar, lead vocals) invited their sisters Angela and Michele (percussion and bass, respectively) into their fledgling band after other members kept quitting.

SOUND Bright, instantly catchy power pop, enriched by four-part harmonies, banjo and an undercurrent of longing. They recently got the chance to perform onstage with Romeo's songwriting hero, Brian Wilson. "He wrote happy music with an undertone of sadness," Romeo says. "I love when music is sort of walking that road where you just can't pinpoint what you're feeling."

SIBLING DRAMA "We still fight," says Romeo. "Even yesterday we argued about some stupid crap before a gig. But then it was like, 'What the hell are we arguing about?' And we had a great gig." "On this mad ride, it's great to have someone there that knows you so well," says Michele.

LOOK FOR Magic Numbers in October, followed by a U.S. tour with Bright Eyes
