Watch Conan O'Brien Cam Newton a Press Conference

After his joke bombs, Conan meets the media, and walks off just like the Panthers' QB did following Super Bowl 50

Conan O'Brien Cam Newtons a press conference.

Cam Newton wasn't in the mood to chat after the Panthers' loss to the Broncos at Super Bowl 50, and the world can't stop talking about it.

Forget the fact that Newton just lost the biggest game of his life, or that Broncos cornerback Chris Harris was chirping in his ear – with Peyton Manning dodging the retirement question in between swigs of Budweiser, the nation needed something to focus on following the Big Game, and Cam's brusque postgame press conference was it (or hey, there's always Beyoncé). Some of the hot takes have been scorchers, but thankfully, Conan O'Brien was smart enough to see the humor in all this, and he tackled the topic last night.

Similar to how Newton failed to propel the Panthers to victory, Conan opened Monday's show by making the worst joke of his career – "Wow! Cam Newton? More like Fig Newton" – then held a post-joke press conference to explain why he thought anyone would laugh at it. Like Newton, his responses were short, and he stormed off the stage when asked if TBS had talked about trading him to another network.

"Tried to do a joke and it didn't work," Conan said. "Just was, you know – thought, like, Cam Newton and then maybe think of Fig Newtons."

For the sake of making things easy for the history books, O'Brien's slip-up will forever be known as "The Fig Fumble." Now, let's hope that's the last we'll have to hear about Newton's press conference.
