Weekend Rock List: Prince Songs

5/2/08, 4:55 pm EST

This week’s Rock List is dedicated to the MVP of this year’s Coachella festival: Prince. After re-watching Prince’s explosive version of Radiohead’s “Creep” for the hundredth time, we’re asking our Rock Daily readers to tell us their favorite songs by the Purple One. On Monday, we’ll count up the picks and reveal your Rock List. Before you pop Purple Rain into the VCR or peruse Rolling Stone’s list of his diamonds (and pearls) in the rough, here are our jams:

  • “The Beautiful Ones”
  • “Gett Off”
  • “Raspberry Beret”
  • “D.M.S.R.”
  • “Paisley Park”

Prince’s Reported Coachella Price: $4.8 Million

4/11/08, 12:20 pm EST

To headline Saturday night of Coachella, Prince reportedly commanded a royal fee: $4.8 million. That’s even more than what Middle Eastern countries give Michael Jackson to show up. “Prince was a late, late addition to the line-up,” a source tells Perez Hilton. “The promoters added him to try and sell more tickets and make up for a less than stellar — in comparison to years past — roster of performers.” The expensive acquisition paid off, as tickets for Saturday sold out less than twenty-four hours after the announcement. The Coachella performance will be the Purple Rain star’s first visit to the nine-year-old event in Indio, California.

Prince to Headline Second Night of Coachella

4/9/08, 2:29 pm EST

Coachella organizers announced today that Prince has been added to this year’s festival and will headline the second night, April 26th. Portishead was previously announced at the Saturday night headliner. The addition of the Purple One adds some serious clout to a festival that was criticized for lacking the bold-faced headliners of Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and All Points West. Prince’s performance will mark the first time the artist has ever appeared at the Indio, California event.
