Paul McCartney Adds Atlanta, Boston and Washington, DC Shows

What began as Paul McCartney christening the New York Mets’ new Queens stadium is beginning to develop into a mini tour as Sir Paul has added shows in Boston, Washington, DC, and Atlanta, Georgia, to his summer schedule. And his Website implies more dates are on the way: “Look out for more news on additional dates here on PM.com very, very, soon…” The Atlanta concert on August 15th will be a benefit to raise money for the upkeep of the city’s Piedmont Park, which will host the concert.
Piedmont Park was founded in 1887, but local authorities in recent years have struggled to find the funds to maintain it. In 2007, the Dave Matthews Band and Allman Brothers attracted 50,000 concertgoers to the park for a benefit show, and Macca’s August 15th concert is expected to eclipse that crowd, the AP reports.
Additionally, McCartney has also booked an August 1st concert at Washington, DC’s FedEx Field, home of the Washington Redskins. (more…)

Sunny Day Real Estate Confirm Fall Reunion Tour
6/23/09, 10:02 am EST

Yesterday Idolator reported via Earcandyblog that Seattle emo pioneers Sunny Day Real Estate will reunite for a pair of West Coast fall shows. Now an official press release has confirmed all four original members — including Foo Fighter Nate Mendel — will hit the road for a full fall reunion tour. “We got together in March and played,” Enigk told Seattle radio station The End during an interview taped a few weeks ago.
Sunny Day Real Estate split in 2001 after business troubles threatened to derail their creative process. Guitarist Dan Hoerner, bassist Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith formed the band in 1992 and Enigk joined soon thereafter, but they split three years later after a tour supporting Sub Pop debut Diary, though they did manage to release ’95’s LP2. They reunited in 1998 (with Jeff Palmer stepping in for Mendel) and released two more studio albums and a live set. Their most recent LP was 2000’s The Rising Tide.
“I wasn’t around for the second version of the band that recorded the third and fourth albums, so I’ve always had a feeling of unfinished business there,” Mendel said in a statement. (more…)

Britney Spears‘ Circus has booked a return trip to the States. The tour launched in Louisiana in March and recently headed off to Europe, but today Spears’ official Website has announced a new slate of North American dates that hit some of the cities she skipped the first time around. The fresh dates kick off August 20th in Hamilton, Ontario, and the first American gigs are a pair of shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden on August 24th and 25th. The last time Spears played the Garden was December 2001 on her “Dream Within a Dream Tour” supporting Britney. Her 2004 “Onyx Hotel Tour” was cut short by the knee injury she sustained on the set of her “Outrageous” video.
“I’m so excited to bring ‘The Circus’ back to North America,” Spears said in a statement. “I’ve made some really cool changes to the show that I think my fans are really going to love. I also get to bring the show to some new cities we missed the first time around.” (Read Rolling Stone’s report from Spears’ New York Circus show). The 20-city trek wraps September 27th at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay. Tickets go on sale starting June 19th. (more…)
