This summer is shaping up to be extremely busy for all-girl rock group the Donnas: Not only will the Palo Alto quartet venture out with Blondie and Pat Benatar for a joint tour, they’ll also release their eighth LP Greatest Hits Volume 16 on July 7th through their own Purple Feathers label. The disc will feature the Donnas reworking older tracks, unreleased B sides, live versions of their greatest hits and never-before-heard songs from the band’s early days. Grab its killer first single, the pissed-off “Get Off,” one of two brand-new tunes recorded for Greatest Hits Volume 16 right here. With its throbbing bass line and Kiss guitar licks, “Get Off” churns with the energy the Donnas brought to past hits like “Take It Off” and “Fall Behind Me.” More tracks from the collection are streaming now at the Donnas’ official MySpace. For the free download and the Donnas’ road dates with Blondie and Benatar, keep reading. (more…)

Just a few years back, Beatles mash-ups were all the rage (The Grey Album, anyone?), but the trend died down — until now. Enter Beatallica, a band that creates original tunes in the vein of Weird Al by melding melodic Beatles’ tracks with Metallica’s raw power. Their third album, appropriately titled Sgt. Hetfield’s Motorbreath Pub Band, comes out today and features tracks like “Blackended the U.S.S.R.” and “Helvester of Skelter.” Intrigued? Download “Revol-Ooh-Tion” for yourself to hear what James Hetfield might sound like fronting the Fab Four.
