Perhaps the only thing people enjoy more than goofing on the title of David Bowie’s classic opus The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars is giving those resultant albums away for free. In the wake of Saul Williams’ pro-bono released, Trent Reznor-produced The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust! last year comes The Rise and Fall of Thuggy Stardust and the Hustlers From Mars, a free for download mash-up album the Vulture blog tipped us off to. Created by masked mix maestro Man-Cat, Thuggy Stardust features classic raps from Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan, and Jay-Z twisted and layered over chopped up selections from Bowie’s legendary concept album. Not everything works (“Chessboxin’ In Suffragette City” is especially disjointed), but the wackily titled “Jiggy My Ziggy” and “Lady Stardust (Is A Bitch)” actually bang and serve the source material well. The video above explains Man-Cat’s mad science, but we’re wondering: Who will pay homage to Ziggy Stardust next? Our money is on R. Kelly’s Peepee Stardust and the Pimps from Sex Planet.
