Aerosmith on the Rocks Again? Perry Says Tyler Quit Band

After a disastrous summer tour marred by long simmering internal tensions, injuries, and poor ticket sales, it appears that Aerosmith and frontman Steven Tyler may be parting ways. “Steven quit as far as I can tell,” guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun late last week. “I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don’t know for how long, indefinitely or whatever.” Perry said he and his fellow Aerosmith bandmates usually have “no contact” with Tyler.

Following a November 1st gig in front of 50,000 in Abu Dhabi, the band had become so frustrated Tyler — who recently hired his own manager and began working on his first solo album — that guitarist Brad Whitford spoke openly about touring with a new singer. “Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him — he’s one of a kind,” Whitford said to a British reporter. “But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?” Perry, meanwhile, wouldn’t confirm whether they’d proceed with a different singer. “I really don’t know what path it’s going to take at this point,” he told the Sun, “but we’ll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we’ll be able to move the Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch.”

For years, Perry and Tyler — who co-wrote most of Aerosmith’s hits — have been unable to agree on a direction for the band’s music. As a result, it’s been nearly a decade since the group released an album of new material, despite repeated stints in the studio. “[We] haven’t written a song together alone in the same room in over ten years, so there’s been some changes in paradigm of what Aerosmith is,” Perry said to the AP in September. Tyler wants more slick, pop-rock hits like 2000’s “Jaded,” while Perry is still fighting for the harder, bluesy sound of their Seventies records. (Perry is currently on the road in support of a new solo album.) Of 2001’s Just Push Play, Perry told Rolling Stone recently, “Sometimes I listen to that record, and I’m not sure that it’s my band. All I want to do is make a record that sounds like Aerosmith.” In June, Perry told Rolling Stone that he was excited about his solo set. “I could play you three things right now and you’d go ‘dude, what was that?!’” he said.

This summer’s injury-plagued amphitheater tour — three different band members were hospitalized during the trek — only seemed to make tensions worse. Tyler suffered two major injuries: After the first, an unspecified onstage leg injury in July, Tyler said the band’s management asked him to perform in a wheelchair. “I just wouldn’t do it,” Tyler told Rolling Stone. Then, Tyler fell off of the stage during a show in South Dakota on August 6th, breaking his shoulder and requiring twenty stitches to his head. The tour was cancelled, and ten days later, Tyler — who has struggled with addiction for decades and was in rehab as recently as last year — was photographed buying alcohol in Massachusetts. Tyler told Rolling Stone that the liquor was for a close friend’s funeral. “I did not buy any for myself,” Tyler said. “It was for the wake, I would do it over and over a million times.”

Neither Perry nor Tyler responded to requests for comment.

Colin | 11/9/2009, 2:44 pm EST

Oh no, Aerosmith is breaking up again… At least we can look forward to some solo albums…

Kary | 11/9/2009, 2:46 pm EST

Sorry (and I don’t care who gets mad at me) but I blame the majority of this on that succubus that Steven is dating! First she beets up someome for taking a picture of him and now this. Ever since she has come into the picture Steven has changed. She is draining the life out of him! She is bad news and all of us need to band together and do a fan intervention!

Kary | 11/9/2009, 2:46 pm EST

sorry about the damn typos…at work. Grrr.

MikeD | 11/9/2009, 2:47 pm EST

Just Push Play admittedly is one of those songs you have to snicker at. Still, then why did Perry go along with it? And remember, their only #1 hit was I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing. But I agree they seem to have hit a bit of a wall, just touring and more touring. In a way I think they should have broken up before than carried on – seems like they’re all to blame. At least then they could have later done a reunion.

However, I don’t think anybody’d want to see them with a different singer. Maybe they can sign on to Axl Rose’s band and become the current GNR lineup.

RIP Aerosmith: 1969-2009

Anonymous | 11/9/2009, 2:53 pm EST

Why bother to find a new singer? These guys are all pushing 60, or already in the 60s?

How many more years were they going to continue anyway? 6, 7, 8 tops?

Just retire already, and let it go.

It’s a shame that after so many years, it would have to end like this.

browstown19 | 11/9/2009, 2:54 pm EST

Aerosmith sucks. That stupid song in Armageddon made me leave the theater. Pump was decent but everything since has been terrible.

Joe sucks | 11/9/2009, 2:55 pm EST

Screw Joe Perry…

Rather than be considered about the welfare of his injured bandmates…

… he goes on a tangent and seems to act like it was done on purpose. What a total dick. (But then again, I wouldn’t expect anything less from a John McCain supporter.)

Ang | 11/9/2009, 2:57 pm EST

Just wanted to point out that their dismal ticket sales may have been due to the fact that they were charging a ridiculous amount of money for tickets. As a long time fan, I was angry that they were not in touch with the times and thinking of their fans with ticket prices. As to Steven leaving…he needs to grow a pair and be honest with his fans and bandmates, love you Steven, but you’re behaving like an jerk-off.

As a walking almanac on the band, I would have to say that this may be it. After reading Kramer’s book (Tyler has one coming out), the inner turmoil in the band may have hit a wall. Perry has the money in the world, and is free to pursue a small-touring venue for the rest of his life. The other band members can produce, etc. I think that it is this: they don’t need “aerosmith” anymore. They have made their mark. They have hit their peak. You can’t get any bigger or better. They will never recapture “combination” or “no more no more” again in the studio.

As a fan, I am quite comfortable with thier catalogue of music. They don’t need to do another “studio” album. Let Perry come up with some stuff, maybe add Whitford and Hamilton in on some tunes. I hate saying this, but I think Aerosmith is over. They do not have anything left to prove. They came together in a fog, and, funny as it is, they left in a fog. Hell, it’s a fitting end to have a little turmoil. That’s rock and roll!

A Fan | 11/9/2009, 3:14 pm EST

I have to agree tickets are still priced as if the economy had not taken a dive, Although I do still love the boys I hope they get this worked out.
Maybe retirement should be considered there is no replacing Steven Tyler or any other band members for that matter so awesome they stuck it out togethor as long as they did hopefully they will realize they need to put talent first and push the egos aside.

beSTrong | 11/9/2009, 3:16 pm EST

Steven, real Aerofans love you and understand you. Stay strong, you’ve been through a lot. You’ve given us so much. Do what is best for you and your brothers.

beSTrong | 11/9/2009, 3:18 pm EST

And Thank You Very Much.

Dave | 11/9/2009, 3:18 pm EST

I have no inside knowledge at all but it sounds to me like Steven is back on the hooch.

SDK | 11/9/2009, 3:34 pm EST

Sorry to hear the news but this band, I think had lost it a while ago. The newer stuff isn’t like the Aerosmith I grew up with at all. I can see where there would be disagreement between a weak ballad band and the original true hard rock I once loved from them.

Anonymous | 11/9/2009, 3:34 pm EST

Joe Perry is an inconsiderate a-hole.

Rather than being concerned about the welfare of his injured bandmates this summer, he sounded angry at them.

What a jerk! (But I wouldn’t expect anything less from a John McCain supporter)

craig wolff | 11/9/2009, 3:35 pm EST

good luck steve , and to joe too.
after all nearly 40yrs might be time
to move on.

Anonymous | 11/9/2009, 3:36 pm EST

what the hell is with RS censoring all my comments.

Anonymous | 11/9/2009, 3:39 pm EST

I’d very much like to hear Steven’s take on what’s going on.

There’s always two sides to every story, and I think Steven’s probably has more merit than Joe’s.

Mike S | 11/9/2009, 3:40 pm EST

Sammy Hagar is probably calling them right now for a job.

decrepitude | 11/9/2009, 3:41 pm EST

Where’s the frikkin twitter post that Joe’s talking about? Sounds like a complete publicity sham to me.

If you read it closely, Joe says: “Steven quit AS FAR AS I CAN TELL. I dont know any more than you do about it.” He also says, “I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I dont know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I dont know.”

This is so open ended it isn’t even funny. Money can’t buy publicity like this! The Aerosmith marketing team is laughing to the bank.

Deb | 11/9/2009, 3:42 pm EST

He needs to get away from that woman, she is bad news. I dont want Stven to go back down that dark road. I miss my deamon of screamin!

joe mama | 11/9/2009, 3:45 pm EST

Who cares about this crappy band antway? I only read the story hoping it was something a little more interesting. 27 seconds I’ll never get back.

Aeroangie | 11/9/2009, 3:48 pm EST

I agree about the girlfriend…..he’s somewhat of a God around here and his “Toxic Twin” isn’t Joe Perry, it’s that blonde trailer park crack whore he’s been dating….what a skank….to any standard of human much less a Rock God!

pinkflyd7 | 11/9/2009, 3:48 pm EST

Steve should listen to Joe. The “slick, pop rock” stuff sucks. If they made a new record that sounded more like the older, 70’s era Aerosmith, I might be interested. The last record they put out that was halfway decent was “Pump.”

Lets just pretend.... | 11/9/2009, 3:51 pm EST

Just for fun, who would make a good replacement for tyler?

Aeroangie | 11/9/2009, 3:52 pm EST

There’s a LOT of people that “care” about this band. Go waste 27 more seconds getting a clue!

Aeroangie | 11/9/2009, 3:55 pm EST

um….Steven Tyler would….there’s no replacing, just plain is NONE.

Black Hole Sun | 11/9/2009, 4:15 pm EST

“Nobody could replace Steven or imitate him — he’s one of a kind,” Whitford said to a British reporter. “But if somebody was willing to do it and the chemistry was right, why not?”

Why not? Because Aerosmith just isn’t Aerosmith without Steve, just as it wouldn’t be Aerosmith if you left and the band carried on without you. If you have any ounce of decency, you will do one of the following: 1) Contact Steven and try to get him to come back or 2) formally disband Aerosmith and go start another group if you and the rest of the band want to continue making music together with a different lead singer.

caf | 11/9/2009, 4:19 pm EST

I’ve got to agree with the ticket pricing statements. I’ve been a casual fan for almost 25 years, but had heard that they sounded much better live than they do on their studio work. A couple of years ago, I happened to catch them playing a short set at a benefit concert and they blew me away. I wanted to go see a whole show, but I just couldn’t justify dropping that much $$$ to see them play. I’ve had the opportunity to go several times, but ticket prices were always the reason I didn’t go. The band has been around for 40 years now – a great deal of their hardcore fan base is probably a bit on the older side and do not go to see concerts as much as younger fans do. The pricing excludes the younger fans for seeing them, thus you get shrinking ticket sales…

Livenationsux | 11/9/2009, 4:20 pm EST

Aerosmith hasn’t done anything good in years. As for replacing Steven Tyler that is just ridiculous. Goodbye Aerosmith. As for Joe Perry constantly commenting on the situation this seems the only way he gets in the news, as no one give a sh*t about his new solo record.

one wasted year Vzla | 11/9/2009, 4:21 pm EST

Is so sad, they suposed to play here in Venezuela since february 2-2009 and always something happen that keep them away from us. I guess that nobody can replace Steven so everybody should take his own path. and the people from solid show Venezuela….return my money from my ticket that I purchase one year ago NOW!!!

rockinthosejeans | 11/9/2009, 4:46 pm EST

Damn. I can’t imagine there being no Aerosmith. If Perry needs to lose Tyler to make music like 70’s Aerosmith again, I’m all for it. Stopped listening to them when they put out “Dude Looks Like A Lady” & “Love In An Elevator” crap. I’d like another Pandora’s Box.

Richard | 11/9/2009, 4:54 pm EST

I have loved Aerosmith for over 25 years (easily) and have seen them in concert more than any other band (6 times).

yet somehow, I’m not upset by this.

It’s time. All good things…

I wish the band could end on better terms (one last great album, farewell tour, final show) but this is a band whose time had come.

Skully | 11/9/2009, 4:58 pm EST

I think Joe and Steven should talk it out just like they did with all of their other problems. You guys are a good band just get your shyt together and shake hands.

YawnNext | 11/9/2009, 5:07 pm EST

Whos Aerosmith?

Bettymac | 11/9/2009, 5:11 pm EST

Take care of yourself Steven and get that monkey off your back, again. Your true fans are sending you healing vibes. There is no Aerosmith without Steven.

Rudy | 11/9/2009, 5:14 pm EST

The bobc twin will never part. Kiss and made up.

recordsetter | 11/9/2009, 5:15 pm EST

Honkin on Bobo was not a decade ago – facts are off!

Kelly Kerstetter | 11/9/2009, 5:23 pm EST

Okay, I’m not going to take this seriously, although I could very likely cry right now. This is ridiculous, Aerosmith can’t break up, they’re the only band that I like that still has the original line up. I would hate to see the same thing happen to them that happened to GNR, although in this case, I’d side with the lead guitarist -Joe Perry – because I understand how Steven Tyler is, and God do I love him –I really do– but I know that it is very likely that this is all his fault. I hope that this is all false, or they get back together like they did the last time. I’ll just hope and pray. BTW, I like Mike D.’s comment about the band becoming the new line up for GNR behind Axl Rose. That would be awesome. It could Aero N’ Roses or something. haha =p

vindaloo | 11/9/2009, 5:25 pm EST

Can someone get that girlfriend of Tylers about tree-fiddy… cause this reminds me of the southpark episode when chefs dad had to yell out “its a gotdamn succubus, dammit monsta!”

Mia Fox | 11/9/2009, 5:26 pm EST

Ok, these guys better get their shit together. In the meantime, we need to pay our respects. I’m dressing in black tomorrow and the other Aerosmith fans should too. RIP Aerosmith 1969-2009. It woulda been nice to see more, but you did the best you could for 40 years, and that’s better than we could’ve asked for.

Jackie | 11/9/2009, 5:28 pm EST

There is no such thing as Aerosmith without Steven Tyler, and there is no such thing as Aerosmith without Joe Perry. When Joe left in ‘79, Aerosmith was not Aerosmith, and this time Tyler’s leaving, it ain’t gonna be Aerosmith. They might as well have a god damn funeral. I’m with Mia Fox, I’m wearing black.

Kelly Kerstetter | 11/9/2009, 5:29 pm EST

No, we should wear blue. Ya know, the Aerosmith fans are referred to as “The Blue Army”. It’s started in Toledo, OH back in the 70s. But yeah, we need to pay our respects.

DJ Buddy | 11/9/2009, 5:31 pm EST

Am I the ONE fan that liked Just Push Play???? That was a great tour and so was 9 Lives! Why rehas an old sound? They’d be accused of doing the same thing over but not as good! I hope Steven cleans up and they just get it together…they are second to NONE.

Jaimee | 11/9/2009, 5:31 pm EST

Oh my God, Jeezus, Steven get your fucking act together! I’m tired of this horse shit. Dump that skanky Erin Brady and be yourself again. Do it for the band, the fans, your kids, yourself. Just fucking apologize to Joe and the band, then it’ll all be okay.

Todd | 11/9/2009, 5:33 pm EST

This is just ridiculous. Don’t tell me Tyler’s gonna turn into a dick now, like Slash did. Joe’s the new Axl, let’s just hope he can keep the rest of the line up, unlike Axl.

Pissed off | 11/9/2009, 5:34 pm EST

Today the Toxic Twins died. They can only be resurected by the fans. Let’s start a riot, c’mon, is anyone with me? What the fuck happened to the Blue Army?!!???

Pissed off | 11/9/2009, 5:35 pm EST

Today the Toxic Twins died. They can only be resurected by the fans.

David | 11/9/2009, 5:37 pm EST

Hey, this is Dave from Chicago and I’m part of the Blue Army! I agree, a riot should be in order. Let’s bring back the the bad boys from Boston!!! Long live Aerosmith!!!!!!!

Kim | 11/9/2009, 5:39 pm EST

I’ll tell ya were Steven went wrong, it all started when he married Teresa. I know you all hate this Erin chick, but none of this would’ve happened if he and Cyrinda didn’t get divorced. It’s sad she died, but maybe he would be a more respectable man as a widower, rather than an asshole of an ex-husband.

Joan Vallance | 11/9/2009, 5:43 pm EST

I saw Aerosmith in Boston back in ‘75, then in New York in ‘76, and the last time was in ‘89 in Boston again. Each time, they were the best band I’d ever seen and the lit my world on fire. I had these guys posters on my walls, I met Joe and Tom backstage in Boston, and I own every album. If they break up, I’m gonna be devestated. I’ve seen Zeppelin, the Stones, the Dolls, GNR, and others, but Aerosmith is the best I’ve ever seen and heard. I swear. I’m with the rest, I’m wearing black to mourn the death, and blue because I have and always will be a loyal memeber of The Blue Army. I love you guys.

Anonymous | 11/9/2009, 5:44 pm EST

AERO WITHOUT TYLER?
They might find a big name, like Cornell or Weiland was for there respective supergroups, and make a decent album or two, but there couldnt be much life beyond that. Aside from that they end up as a first rate covers band.

TYLER WITHOUT AERO???

Whats he want to do, soundtracks for romantic comedies? Hip hop collaborations? More Santana?I mean really he’s got one the most notable voices in rock… the guy sings a ballad like no one else, he is a rock legend and I could see him stringing together a handful of top 40 pop hits but the money in the music industry is touring and who cares about seeing him sing with some manufactured backing band? People will go see him because of why??? To hear Aerosmith songs but if its not with Aerosmith, who cares. If it comes down to that I’ll just go watch “draw the line” the aero cover band for a quarter of the price.

Part of the selling point of that band was that you get the original lineup. Hell, you cant get that with the Stones. So they need each other to really make anything work. Sounds like its just some bad blood to be worked out but who knows maybe its time to call it.

Gary | 11/9/2009, 5:45 pm EST

Hey, I saw Aerosmith in Boston in ‘75 too. Maybe we were at the same show, lol. Yeah, they were the best I’ve ever seen. I saw them a few times, and they always were amazing. I’m with you, Joan. I’m wearing blue because I’m a proud member of the Blue Army. Long live Aerosmith, the Bad Boys from Boston, the Toxic Twins!

The Blue Army | 11/9/2009, 5:47 pm EST

Let’s start a riot. Let’s march in protest up and down Commonwealth Ave, the street the band used to live on together when they first formed (1325 Comm. Ave.). Then of course we’ll go one to Kent St., Beacon St., etc. The Boston Student Union. Then we go to Sunapee…….

Anonymous | 11/9/2009, 6:19 pm EST

To recordsetter,

Honkin On Bobo was NOT an album of original Aerosmith songs. Just a bunch of blues covers. So that doesn’t count at all!

Last album of NEW Aerosmith material was Just Push Play.

Anonymous | 11/9/2009, 6:20 pm EST

For the 4 musicians from Aerosmith, to find a new vocalist now, and still call it Aerosmith, would be an insult to the previous 40 years.

ROAD WORN | 11/9/2009, 6:21 pm EST

It’s EXACTLY this type of turmoil that has added to the chemistry of this band for decades. There ain’t “No Substitute for AEROSMITH”.

Good Ridance | 11/9/2009, 6:32 pm EST

If Barbie and Ken ever had a baby it would probably look like Steven Tyler…Fitting end tp the most OVERRATED American rock band ever…EVER!!!

Karen | 11/9/2009, 7:41 pm EST

I agree with Anonymous, it would be an insult to call it Aerosmith without Steven Tyler. Aerosmith = Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford, and Joey Kramer. Without Steven, it’s just Smith.

Jerry | 11/9/2009, 7:42 pm EST

Time to get The Blue Army back together. Time to protest! We want Aerosmith, we want Aerosmith, we want Aerosmith!!!!!! We want the Demon of Screamin’!!!!!

sean | 11/9/2009, 8:07 pm EST

This is the biggest loss to the music world since the beatles broke up!

Tom | 11/9/2009, 8:16 pm EST

Dinosaurs. They need to find a tar pit to lie down in.

TOM SMITH | 11/9/2009, 8:22 pm EST

Well, whatever happens, Aerosmith had a hell of a good run. Not too many bands get to do what they did for as long as they did. With various members having to deal with injuries and illnesses, maybe it is time to call it a day. I just think it sucks that if this is, indeed, the end of Aerosmith, that the band went out with a whimper instead of a bang.

Jimmy Cresbo | 11/9/2009, 9:04 pm EST

Hey Steve call me!

Jorgein | 11/9/2009, 11:05 pm EST

Rizzo | 11/10/2009, 12:00 am EST

Obviously no one could replace Tyler, but if they really wanted to continue on without him, I think Chris Cornell is the only one who can come close to Tyler’s vocal power

carabio | 11/10/2009, 12:15 am EST

Seen ‘em 34 times…Mostly in my hometown…Detroit. After The Beatles, Stones, Zepp and The Who…they go down as the greatest band that ever was. If this rock-roll train has finally come to a halt…..then thank you for the great shows and the great music. People still listen to The Doors, Led Zepp, The Beatles, Elvis…I think they will still listen to Aerosmith. Somewhere there are about four of five fifteen year old kids in their parents garage trying to play Sweet Emotion…that is the true legacy of a great band

hgygu | 11/10/2009, 12:34 am EST

thanks for the memories guys ! rip aerosmith!!

Excuse me Joe Perry, I’m very happy for you and I’mma let you finish your dirty laundry airing…

I say they hire Danny Gokey to take Steven Tyler’s place.

Did you see him perform Dream On during the last season of Idol.

It was classic!

Anonymous | 11/10/2009, 7:32 am EST

I have a feeling Joe Perry is doing this to make a little publicity for his upcoming solo club tour.

thomas | 11/10/2009, 8:33 am EST

RIP Aerosmith.

Ya had a good run but let go.

wallytarkington | 11/10/2009, 8:43 am EST

Some people are just too old to play the kind of music that they play. Move on, change everything, something. I just have no desire to see a geriatric old coot singing about his big ten inch. But as this band has proven a couple of times before, you just can’t kill these guys. But a band that never speaks to each other isn’t worth saving.

John Bond Morning Drive Record | 11/10/2009, 8:52 am EST

I think its great that band members can beat the press with the
right answers keeping down there negative flow and get free press because they the bands have icon status v i p/ rock on areosmith .

Kim | 11/10/2009, 11:12 am EST

I thank Joe Perry for trying to keep the fans informed on what’s going on. Though I would like to hear Steven’s side of it. I love all their songs and solo projects.

As for those that say they are getting to old…you are way off. They still have “it”. If you say they are to old to make their music then you’re to old to listen to it!! They still have a lot of great years in them along with great music that we have yet to hear. Keep rockin’ guys. Even if it has to be apart (hope not) I’m waiting for the music to play!!

Desperado | 11/10/2009, 11:45 am EST

Everything else after PUMP was crap! So just might as well…

Steven | 11/10/2009, 1:01 pm EST

Aerosmith have been terrible for longer than they were good. ‘Pump’ was fantastic, but after four long years they gave us a record, ‘Get a grip’ which told me at least, that the writing was on the wall.

When you start trying to sound like Bon Jovi, you totally lose anything remotely rock n’ roll. because in my opinion, that is as low guitar based music has ever gone. Aerosmith were a hard rock n roll band, not a bunch of bubble gum nonces.

I love 70’s and 80’s Aerosmith, I watched them live a couple of times in the UK in 1989, was there several times after and I own everything they recorded up until 1993. However, I never say I like Aersomith when I talk music, because people think of ‘I don’t wanna miss a thing’ and ‘Pink’ etc… and that was not the Aerosmith that had a big effect on me at one point. In a ntshell, I am embarrased to say I ever liked them, because I can’t be boethred explaining the difference.

‘Thank your god’ for ‘Chinese Democracy’ which is a proper album fiull of layered music, surprises and incredible vocals.

Good luck Joe, I think I can see where the problem was now.

IFixTeeth | 11/10/2009, 2:27 pm EST

Adam Lambert would definitely put some new life into the group!

aerokid | 11/10/2009, 3:00 pm EST

its kind of obvious that nothings getting better for them, just gets worst

Kelly | 11/10/2009, 3:53 pm EST

Uh, “IFixTeeth” Lambert should join Queen, Aerosmith is so not him. I think the band should just break up because they can’t do without each other. Tyler is a dog without a bone without Perry, and Perry is America without Boston.

Randy | 11/10/2009, 4:22 pm EST

Long live the boys from beantown!!

moneygrab | 11/10/2009, 4:44 pm EST

Aerosmith continuing without Tyler is simply a “moneygrab”.. a cashgrab if you will… its about as stupid an idea as Led Zeppelin continuing without Plant.. the only person who has the right to continue on with new members is Axl because Chinese Democracy is worthy of the name, greatest album of the last 15 years…

Anonymous | 11/10/2009, 6:38 pm EST

steven tyler IS aerosmith. if they are going to find another singer….they might as well get themselves a new name too. he will NEVER be replaced.

O | 11/10/2009, 7:58 pm EST

Its better to burn out then to fade away, thats what they all say, but who knows, They might end up like KISS, and we may see them 20 years from now on their 40th farewell tour.

eatdrich | 11/10/2009, 8:31 pm EST

all this is typical Aerosmith!! they have been fighting since day one!! they will be back kicking ass like always!! they feed off each other!!!

alanL | 11/10/2009, 9:08 pm EST

Aerosmith is such a great band. it is too bad that they are old men now. at some point you have to let it go. they are so far past their prime it is ridiculous. at least make ROCKS part 2. or something. something to get the fans excited about. remember, you are nothing without the fans

Aerofan73 | 11/10/2009, 9:15 pm EST

I 100% agree with Kary! Erin Brady IS a succubus and IS draining the life out of him. The minute I found out about this issue, I thought of her!I do know that Aerosmith has “split up” several times so I hope they can get it worked out. One thing about it is…..Aerosmith wont be Aerosmith without the Demon of Screamin’. Steven has enough talent that he could survive on his own. There is no one out there anywhere that can even come close to pumping up fans and giving their entire soul to their music as Steven Tyler. I will follow Aerosmith AND Steven Tyler until the very end but it won’t be the same.

Aerofan73 | 11/10/2009, 9:40 pm EST

Oh and BTW…..Joe, is it really Steven’s fault that he fell off the stage? I would give anything to have that much energy in my 60’s.Steven Tyler puts his heart and soul into each performance, For those of you that “don’t care” or can only give negative feedback…..why are you even reading this? Maybe its just an excuse to make yourselves feel better by cutting someone else down.OR…..maybe you are jealous of Tyler because he is one of the sexiest men on earth and you wish you were.

Grow up | 11/11/2009, 1:08 am EST

Okay… so ST is leaving. Good riddence. JP wants to keep playing with the band… good idea. ST has been a walking dead for several years.

Mike | 11/11/2009, 1:34 am EST

Without Steven Tyler Aerosmith is dead: plain and simple. It’s like Zeppelin w/o Paige/Plant or Heart w/o Ann Wilson or Fleetwood Mac w/o Lindsey and Stevie. It simply does not and cannot work. Anyone remember the trainwreck that was the new Guns N Roses? Puh-lease! If the other guys want to keep playing without Steven Tyler that’s fine, but why do it under the name Aerosmith? That’ll be an insult of forty years of music history.

Al | 11/12/2009, 4:18 am EST

To Sam: “They don’t need to do another “studio” album.” Uh, yes they do; they’re under contract with their record company for one more.

Aerofan90 forever | 11/14/2009, 4:38 pm EST

In only 18 but i have seen them 7 times. ever since erin came into the picture steven has been in a hole. its time that steven grow up and stop trying to be a craddle robber. he needs to think about the guys he grew up with. they are his family and brothers. he has gone through so much with them. letting a girl get in the way is nuts. its time AEROSMITH PULLED THEIR HEADS OUT OF WHERE THEY ARE and make music again. quoting steven “if you just blow alil love into it it will fly right up to the stratosphere” well its time the guys blow alil love into AEROSMITH.

cbu201 | 11/15/2009, 3:31 pm EST

Joesucks…….you’ve got to be kidding! You are actually equating people’s tastes in music with politics?? YOU SUCK! (additionally, you’re STUPID).

Milk Cow Blues1961 JAG | 11/16/2009, 12:59 am EST

Let’s face it “you guys need each other!” apart you don’t have the chemistry. Don’t get me wrong, I have all way been BIG fan..
Someone has to state the obvious!
Take a break, trip, eat some caviar… and you’ll be ready to rock again when the money gets low!
Come live like I do… and you’ll be more than happy to get along!
In the beginning the music was first, now it appears that the drama is first! Smarten up or history will repeat itself (80-83)..or you’ll barely have money for Geritol.

satansgoalie | 11/16/2009, 2:48 pm EST

I love 70’s Aerosmith so as far as I’m concerned, this is a good thing. If anything it will keep them from recording crap like “Just Push Play” ever again. Sometimes a band just needs to know when to call it quits.

collin | 11/18/2009, 7:31 pm EST

Steven and Joe you guys need to get together and live the rest of your life singing and having fun intell you cant no more.

dr.evil112 | 11/21/2009, 11:10 am EST

i am sad that steven tyler
left the band but at least i have all their cd`s

dr.evil112 | 11/21/2009, 11:11 am EST

solo albums are great too

Beatledout | 11/21/2009, 1:16 pm EST

One thing a band doesn’t need to do is to air their “dirty laundry” about their band mates. I guess we don’t learn from past band loose lips (The Beatles…). They need to rally around Steven, like they would any family member in trouble. In the end, you have your family and your friends. These guys have been around for quite a while, so, stop the talking, and start supporting Steven. Thanks for the 2 cents worth. Patton.

demon within 78 | 11/21/2009, 6:22 pm EST

YO JOE YOU SUCK ANYWAYS
YOURE LEADS ARE A SNOR. ican play better leads than you. whats with the whole aerosmith thing anyways THEY SUCK THEY HAVE SUCKED FOR A WHILE. GIVE IT A REST! GO AWAY LIKE A BAD HEADACHE

HERES THE SHOCKER JOE HAD NOTHING
AREOSMITH SUCKS ASS!

Mish | 11/22/2009, 11:21 am EST

Steven’s relationship with E.B. has GOT to have something to do with his negative behavior. His divorce from T…. is when his behavior began; and E.B’s not a good influence on him; ‘inside’ sources have said this. Also, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry have NEVER gotten along; that is no secret. I think at this point, they should just go on their own ways and let it rest.

Mish | 11/22/2009, 11:22 am EST

And no one can help Steven, except Steven.

Beatledout | 11/22/2009, 12:43 pm EST

….true, mish, but your true friends can help make a difference…..I think…..

demon within 78 | 11/22/2009, 4:32 pm EST

joe is no guitar god,but tyler is a great lead vocalist. i can play
joes leads but i cant sing in the same range that tyler dos.

A!FAN! | 11/24/2009, 12:53 am EST

OK!listen the fuck up! AEROSMITH is THE GREATEST band in existence. They can break up, injure themselves, fight, do drugs, write whatever….they can do ANYTHING! they are the epitome of true rock n roll….so, i’d shut the fuck up! they’re a million times better than any fucking shit we hear today! If anyone disagrees you might want get yourself Pandora’s Box, sit you ass down, and listen for a bit!NO MATTER what happens with Aerosmith, they’ll ALWAYS be the fucking GREATEST!!!!!
