U2 and Jay-Z Team for MTV Europe Music Awards, Beyonce Wins Big

11/6/09, 9:06 am EST

The award for Best Live Act was the first trophy handed out at yesterday’s MTV Europe Music Awards, and it went to U2 for their massive 360° Tour. Stripped of their spaceship and playing a free concert outside the EMAs to a small crowd of 10,000 at Berlin’s Brandenburg Park, U2 showed why they deserve the honor by breaking out a 20-minute concert featuring hits, No Line on the Horizon tracks and a surprise collaboration with Jay-Z just days after teaming up with the Black Eyed Peas at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 25th anniversary concerts.

Check out photos from MTV’s Europe Music Awards: U2, Green Day, Beyoncé and more.

Performing in honor of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, U2 started with “One” and “Magnificent,” and the show returned to to their mini-gig to close out the ceremony. Midway through “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” Bono asked the fans to greet the “Mayor of New York,” alluding to Jay-Z and not the reelected Mike Bloomberg. Jigga emerged from the sidelines to freestyle a verse over the “Sunday” riffs before joining hands with Bono and leading the 10,000-strong audience in a chant of Bob Marley’s “Get Up, Stand Up” in honor of the Berlin Wall’s demolition.

Check out live shots from U2’s award-winning 360° Tour.

Beyoncé was the show’s big winner at Berlin’s packed O2 Arena, grabbing three Euro Moonmen for Best Song (”Halo”), as well as Best Female and Best Video for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It).” During her acceptance speech for Best Video, Beyoncé shouted out her husband, saying, “There is one person I want to thank, and that is Jay — for putting a ring on it!” Jay-Z also took home a trophy for Best Urban. The biggest couple in music took the stage separately, too: Beyoncé sang “Sweet Dreams” and Jay-Z gave Berlin a taste of his “Empire State of Mind.”

Look back at what went down at the U.S.’s own VMAs, in photos.

Other winners include Lady Gaga for Best New Act and Eminem for Best Male. Katy Perry served as the EMAs’ host, while Shakira, Tokio Hotel, Leona Lewis and the Foo Fighters took the stage to perform. Green Day also turned in an explosive performance, kicking off the show with a medley of “Know Your Enemy” and “Minority.”

If you weren’t among the estimated two billion who tuned in, MTV is streaming the EMAs on their Website now. And as expected, there was a Hasselhoff appearance.

Tokio Hotel owned the night! So proud if them.

Gina | 11/6/2009, 10:14 am EST

I thought this was a great show. I watched on-line since MTV seems to think Americans don’t want to see music ever again on TV. Thank god for the internet! I thought Tokio Hotel tore it up. And Green Day did a great job kicking off the show.

Dina | 11/6/2009, 10:33 am EST

Gosh, the tokio hotel performance was awesome! no words to describe it! The flames and the tearing down of the wall as well as the great live singing! Totally a spectacle!

Ryu | 11/6/2009, 10:34 am EST

Tokio Hotel had a fantastic performance. They were definitely on fire. Best performance of the night. U2’s One was excellent as well, especially right in front of those gates.

Kim | 11/6/2009, 10:36 am EST

I was watching online until work got in the way-drat! But I will watch the whole thing this weekend. You forgot to note that Tokio Hotel won Best Group as well as performing. Oh, and Katy Perry’s voice made babies cry, as usual.

harlequinn | 11/6/2009, 10:44 am EST

No mention of Tokio Hotel’s performance and win? Seriously?

angryROOTS | 11/6/2009, 10:50 am EST

WHY DIDN’T YOU MENTION TOKIO HOTEL?? THEY OWNED THE EMAS! YEAH!!!!

harlequinn | 11/6/2009, 10:50 am EST

Oh, wait, There was a tiny mention. Pretty downplayed for one of the biggest performances, though.

n | 11/6/2009, 10:53 am EST

The highlights for me was Tokio Hotel’s Performance! Amazing! After they took the stage, I forgot about what happened before and after their performance;)

rarrkun | 11/6/2009, 11:10 am EST

It was a great show but I wish they’d gotten the red carpet hosts (MTV Germany’s Joko Winterscheidt and Joss Stone) to host the event instead. Katy Perry’s antics weren’t very amusing to watch.

I think one of the highlights of the night was Tokio Hotel’s performance of “World Behind My Wall”, which the article seems to have neglected (They also won Best Group.) It was awesome seeing a German band winning and performing in their home country with a song that really fit in with the event the show was supposed to commemorate, the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Kris | 11/6/2009, 11:35 am EST

U2 & Jay-Z were absolutely amazing. One of the best renditions of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” ever. I can’t stop watching it.

EvilKirby | 11/6/2009, 12:06 pm EST

The show was great. U2 and Jay-Z were awesome. I loved that performance. But I have to say, that the best performance of the night was Tokio Hotel’s “World Behind My Wall” They owned that place yesterday night. The images of the Berlin Wall behind them was stunning. And the fire. Oh, God, the fire was amazing. I can’t get over the brilliance of the performance. Definitely the best of the night. They also won Best Group! Completely deserving of that award, I say.

Mitchel | 11/6/2009, 12:38 pm EST

Am I really the only person here who doesn’t like Tokio Hotel? I liked the Foo Fighters’ performance.

Karencita | 11/6/2009, 12:47 pm EST

It was a great show, but the Best performance of the night was Tokio Hotel. It was beautiful!!! and They completely deserved the Best Group award, and it shows the world just how Great TH are =)

lisa | 11/6/2009, 12:48 pm EST

wheres tokio hotel performance mention…. come on rolling stone
that was amazing…. can’t believe

the rock that stage yesterday

TOKIO HOTEL WAS EPIC

dilan | 11/6/2009, 12:49 pm EST

FOR ME TOKIO HOTEL STOLE THE SHOW

THEY WERE AMAZING

Anonymous | 11/6/2009, 1:09 pm EST

I seriously think there is some deranged Tokio Hotel fan that posts over and over and over again, using different names.

Lyn | 11/6/2009, 1:11 pm EST

OMG the EMA’s was ON FIRE THIS YEAR (TOKIO HOTEL) lol i loved TH performance

Katie | 11/6/2009, 1:15 pm EST

Tokio Hotel’s performance was the best of the night! Not to mention they won Best Group beating out 4 huge American artists!

Jaspar | 11/6/2009, 1:19 pm EST

As a fan of Green Day, U2, and Tokio Hotel, this was the best day of my life, seeing all three perform at the same concert. And Tokio Hotel’s performance was the icing on the cake. The best of the night!

Claudia | 11/6/2009, 1:29 pm EST

It’s unbelievable that you wouldn’t even mention the most powerful performance of the night and the award Tokio Hotel won. 20yrs of the fall of the wall and you don’t even mention them Shame on you!

Annalise | 11/6/2009, 1:33 pm EST

I thought this years EMAs were amazing. All the performances were amazing but Tokio Hotel was definitely the highlight of the show.

To Mitchel | 11/6/2009, 1:44 pm EST

No, you’re not alone.

Jungleland2 | 11/6/2009, 1:46 pm EST

I should actually see it first, but I wish U2 would stop it with the rappers already. 50 year old white guys do not need to have a rap break in their songs…ever

emme | 11/6/2009, 1:48 pm EST

tokio hotel rocked the EMAS!
why didnt you mention their performance?

annagrace | 11/6/2009, 1:50 pm EST

Are you fn serious–not one single word about Tokio Hotel???? WTF!!! They BY FAR had the most awesome performance of the night! Beautiful song-rockin show-images of the wall behind them & they won Best Group, which they deserved, add the fact that it was in their own home country-come on, give them the recognition they deserve!

Tammy | 11/6/2009, 1:53 pm EST

I agree that U2 playing at the gate was really awesome, but Tokio Hotel’s performance was definitely my favorite. Boys rocked it ♥

rarrkun | 11/6/2009, 1:55 pm EST

@Anonymous re: fans

No, they just have a really active online fanbase.

What I’d like to wonder is if it’s the same person going into posts accusing Tokio Hotel fans of being the same person/being TH’s PR team.

Anonymous | 11/6/2009, 1:56 pm EST

It looks like the Euro MTV Awards were 10 times better then the American ones, minus the Michael Jackson Tribute in the beginning. AWESOME!!

Hannah | 11/6/2009, 1:56 pm EST

My favorite performances were…
Tokio Hotel & Jay-Z

My least favorite part was…Katy Perry’s hosting.

and Anonymous, I’m pretty sure RS knows these comments aren’t all the same fangirl based on IP addresses ^___^

rarrkun | 11/6/2009, 1:56 pm EST

I mean to say, “I’d like to know” :D oops

Rabbitbunny | 11/6/2009, 2:00 pm EST

Bloody Sunday is a hard-rockin’
hip-hoppin’s song for every outcast who wants to see all the troops come home. Once again U2 are brilliant! I have a new respect for Jay-Z because Bloody Sunday could just as well be a hip-hop anthem for America. All Five of you Bono, Edge, Adam, Larry
and Jay-Z-all of y’all rock hard!
Peace!

Chloe | 11/6/2009, 2:00 pm EST

U2 did great, but I think Tokio Hotel had the best performance of the night!

fliegehoch | 11/6/2009, 2:09 pm EST

I think Tokio Hotel’s performance of “World Behind My Wall” was the most amazing performance of the night. I watched them all and Tokio Hotels, hands down, blew me away.
Another highlight for me was when Tokio Hotel gave a shoutout to their homeland Germany in their acceptance speech for winning Best Group! That was definitely a remembering moment.

annagrace | 11/6/2009, 2:13 pm EST

@rarrkun-you are so right about TH having a very dedicated and active fanbase online. We believe in and support this band like no other! I also agree with the following you wrote; What I’d like to wonder is if it’s the same person going into posts accusing Tokio Hotel fans of being the same person/being TH’s PR team.;—-That’s what I want to know!

Carmen | 11/6/2009, 2:19 pm EST

DUDE, THIS YEARS EMAS ROCKED! GREAT PERFORMANCES FROM EVERYONE, ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE U2 PERFORMANCE! BUT I ALSO LIKED THE TOKIO HOTEL PERFORMANCE AS WELL… THEY WEREN’T AS BAD AS I THOUGHT THEY WERE. THE FLAMES AND PYRO IN THEIR PERFORMANCE ALSO HELPED.

bh in ut | 11/6/2009, 2:27 pm EST

I heard ELO’s spaceship was better than U2’s.

ari | 11/6/2009, 2:28 pm EST

Bono’s lost the plot.

YEP | 11/6/2009, 2:29 pm EST

the work “epic” and tokio hotel go hand & hand together.

Sussan | 11/6/2009, 2:30 pm EST

This is the way you do an Award show, America MTV take notes.

Who want’s to see another cheesy MJ tribute?

Sussan | 11/6/2009, 2:30 pm EST

This is the way you do an Award show, America MTV take notes.

Quill | 11/6/2009, 2:40 pm EST

I was able to watch a, not so high quality, show online since MTV here in America doesn’t show anything actually related to music. Since then I’ve been able to look up parts of the show in higher quality and now I can definitely say Tokio Hotel’s performance of World Behind My Wall was absolutely perfect! It was both touching and kickass!! My mother even watched, appreciated it, and admitted to really liking the song and their performance! It was definitely one of the best performances of the night– and the fire!! At the EMA’s in 2007 they performed Monsoon and were drenched in a downpour on stage, VERY epic. Now in 2009 they “tear down the wall” with an explosion of fire! Awesome! I was particularly thrilled with the instruments being on fire. The piano and drum set, that is.

Words cannot describe how thrilled I was to see Tokio Hotel win Best Group as well. Wonderful night for them! It made me very happy as a fan to be able to vote with other fans and make it happen!

U2’s performance was quite a treat for the eyes as well. I really like how the lights on the Gate. Very cool.

ss | 11/6/2009, 2:46 pm EST

green day owned with that performance ! i think U2 should give that best act awards to the Green Day trio.

Buffy | 11/6/2009, 3:05 pm EST

What an awesome show! I found it odd though, with your recent publicity of the German band “Tokio Hotel” that you barely mentioned them in your article. Having very few European acts nominated or performing last night, I thought this young German band represented! Their performance was by far the most exciting and heart-felt. And how exciting for them to be one of the few European acts to receive a “European Music Award” in their home country. That was at least worthy of mentioning.

Shiloh | 11/6/2009, 3:11 pm EST

The setting of that performance looked amazing. U2 was great, cant wait to see them next year. I wish they would have shown the EMA in the US…from what people are saying it sounds like it was much better than the American ones. Anyone know where I can watch them?

digga | 11/6/2009, 3:21 pm EST

Only a brief mention for the band that blew the red carpet out of the water, set the stage on fire, and crumbled the walls of the O2 Arena in Berlin? Rolling Stone, you’re in denial.

You see all the hits and comments you get from Tokio Hotel fans on an article that barely mentions the band? Imagine what you’d see if you’d highlight them, perhaps on the cover of RS?

trina | 11/6/2009, 3:24 pm EST

@ Shiloh: You can check it out at buzzworthy.mtv.com just scroll down further on the front page and you’ll see link to the performances from the show.

trina | 11/6/2009, 3:32 pm EST

I saw the show online, and thank God I could fast forward, cause MAN the show was lame. The VMAs were better, in spite of Kanye dampening the night. The only performances I found tolerable were Green Day, Beyonce, Jay-Z and U2. Tokio Hotel weren’t bad, and the song is nice, but the lead singer has a thin, wispy voice, I hope it was just a bad night for him, cause otherwise I just don’t see why people would hype this band to death. They’re not THAT special, IMO. And I like Katy Perry, but at the same time I can understand why she turns some people off. She tries waaaaaaaay too hard to be funny sometimes, and it’d be nice if she wasn’t throwing her boobs at us every second. Oh yeah, and the Kanye jokes are no longer funny, get over it. It’s old news now.

trina | 11/6/2009, 3:34 pm EST

And Bono, I love you, but please… don’t ever attempt to rap EVER again. Stick to what you’re good at. You’re no MC.

Gwen | 11/6/2009, 3:48 pm EST

No offence but can the hyper tokio hotel fan post a little less? Please?

And i think it’s a shame the Kings of leon won nothing even though I do think U2, Beyonce and Jay-Z deserved their awards

Vic De Zen | 11/6/2009, 3:55 pm EST

Must have been a good night. Sounds like everybody I would have like to receive an award did. I’m sorry I missed it.
-Vic De Zen

intheparkinglot | 11/6/2009, 3:58 pm EST

Tokio Hotel was definitely the high light of the show. They rocked it during their performance!

Anonymous | 11/6/2009, 4:13 pm EST

Dear Rolling Stone -
Why is it that your magazine as well as pretty much every other media outlet, has no idea what a freestyle is. I am so tired of seeing writers claim, “so and so rapper graced us with his presence last evening and dropped a ridiculous freestyle.” These are not freestyles. It was the same thing at the BET awards when the media said that the Black Thought/Mos Def/Eminem cypher was a freestyle. A freestyle is literally stepping up to the mic and rapping straight off the cuff, not having any idea what you were going to say before you started. These rappers are not doing this. That doesn’t take anything away from the rappers, I mean a good verse is a good verse, but it’s not a freestyle. Jay-Z’s amazing, don’t get me wrong, and his verse here isn’t bad, but it is definitely not a freestyle. Just write it as it is. “Jay-Z wrote a verse that he performed over U2’s Sunday Bloody Sunday.” If for some reason you are confused and actually believed this was a freestyle, well then you probably shouldn’t be writing about Hip Hop.

Lbc | 11/6/2009, 4:17 pm EST

All the posts about Tokio Hotel being the best thing ever are clearly from the same person posting under a bunch of different user names.

MidnightMonsoon | 11/6/2009, 4:26 pm EST

Why on earth didn’t you talk more about Tokio Hotel? What kind of reprehensible coverage is that?!?

A historic night. The EMAs returned to Berlin. Celebrating the anniversary of the fall of the Wall. And here you have this dynamic, world-inspiring German band, winning Best Group, in their homeland, playing an absolutely chillingly beautiful rendition of World Behind My Wall, the wall exploding in flames behind them, the entire place going nuts for them.

You didn’t think that deserved a mention beyond they were onstage?

Really, now.

And yeah, Green Day was so great! Loved their performance kicking off the show.

MidnightMonsoon | 11/6/2009, 4:31 pm EST

Oh, and, to the people who as usual like to say all the Tokio Hotel fans are the same person – PAY ATTENTION.

They won Best Group last night.

Guess who else was nominated for that? The Jonas Brothers. (barf) Which means the Tokio Hotel fanbase outvoted those rabid little fangirls. There are hundreds of thousands of Tokio Hotel fans all over the world, and Rolling Stone is a famous magazine. Why would you be surprised to see a lot of TH comments here?

OK? | 11/6/2009, 4:40 pm EST

Once again, if TH is in the news or someone post something online about them, then the TH fan sits, post it under new news with links for us too read & comment on, like this one on RS!!!!! @LBC do you get that?

They have more fans than a lot of big groups out today, & how do i know this, well they just @###@@@@ won best group!!!!! Thanks too us!!

Sorry for my bad English.

ThinAir | 11/6/2009, 5:17 pm EST

Two highlights of the night: The performances by Tokio Hotel and U2. The VMAs need to take a page from the Europeans. This show was far superior to it’s American counterpart this year.

Unfortunately Katy Perry didn’t seem to be able to deliver her lines in any way other than bitter sarcasm. It wears thin after a while.

rockinthosejeans | 11/6/2009, 5:30 pm EST

I love that anonymous has doubt about how big Tokio Hotel’s fanbase is. He should work for Rolling Stone since they think there’s only 10 people in the United States that care about them. Guess what? They sell out concerts in every state they’ve played in so far. There are many of us, and we would love to go out and buy us some Rolling Stones magazines with articles on the band. Why don’t you wake up and do something about that Rolling Stone?

Another great story about the Europe Music Awards would have been about how there was a fence built around the “free” outdoor U2 concert, blocking many from seeing it. Ironic, wouldn’t you say? Since they were there to pay tribute to a wall being torn down. Freedom to the people, unless they want to see good live performances. I wonder why MTV doesn’t actually stand for Music TV any more.

Jane | 11/6/2009, 6:17 pm EST

Thanks RS when I tried to watch the video Firefox crashed, so I won’t watch it :(
But it doesn’t matter, the comments here are quite amusing, funny how people still underestimate the Tokio Hotel fanbase… I found this link on the blog of a fan, this is how the news spread, this is why so many fans comment on this page. What do you think why they won the award for “best band” they wouldn’t have won if it had been only one or two fans voting over and over for them.
And yes, it was an amazing performance and the song fit perfectly.

Katy Perry almost ruined the entire show last year she was OK but this year… well the German press ate her alive XD and complained that the Americans just don’t take this show seriously though it is the biggest music event in Europe…
There were some other great moments I want to point out:
the performances of Beyonce and Sharika were incredibly sexy, the MJ tribute was the best I’ve seen so far- because they kept it simple and didn’t try to hard on making everyone cry (as they tried at the VMA’s) they concentrated on his music and the effect it has on the fans. It was beautiful- there was no need to see someone else holding a speech about how fantastic he was. Everything had been said about him.

Hasselhoff couldn’t stay sober once again but he wasn’t the only one, there was this actress, I’ve never heard of her before (probably cause I’m not American) her name was Asia something… I can’t remember but she was at least as drunk as Hasselhoff… great first appearance in Germany… to me she will always be the drunk girl from the EMA’s

SocialGhost666 | 11/6/2009, 6:26 pm EST

It was hard only being able to watch this online with a livestream that was pixely, but with our MTV not playing it, thats what it had to be.
While I agree this this night was amazing, nothing was more amazing that Tokio Hotel’s performance and win of Best Group. The performance was HOT in both senses that the guys were hot and their music was amazing, and the fact that there was FIRE. The fire was just insane. I was torn between amazement over how epic it was, and worry over them getting burnt. It was so cool how the drums and keyboard were on fire, though a little dangerous and worrysome.
And, the best group obviously won. Their music is wonderful, the boys are sweethearts, and no one else deserved it more than they did. I am so glad they won and feel honered to have been able to witness that performance.
They definatly stole the show and won the evening, I think.

Katie | 11/6/2009, 6:45 pm EST

Really Rolling Stone? That’s all the credit you give Tokio Hotel? Their performance was unbelievable and the best of the night! Not to mention they won Best Group against 4 huge american artists.! I think that deserves some sort of accolades from you, come on!

Dacia | 11/6/2009, 6:49 pm EST

Its unbelievable that you hardly mentioned Tokio Hotel! Not only did they win Best Group by their fantastic fans voting their fingers off but they gave such an emotional performance while rocking all at the same time. One day Rolling Stone, you will realize how awesome Tokio Hotel really are.

I can't believe that | 11/6/2009, 7:38 pm EST

Placebo beat out Muse and Green Day. I mean WTF?!?!

Meaya | 11/6/2009, 7:38 pm EST

Come on, what about Tokio Hotel?

Tokio Hotel’s performance was amazing & they won Best Group against 4 huge American artists.
I think that’s something to talk about.

Preet | 11/6/2009, 7:41 pm EST

I watched the show online, as well. One of my highlights was Tokio Hotel. Their performance was definitely one of the best of the night, and they also just won their third EMA in a row, which is totally amazing. They should definitely have gotten more of a mention in this article!

bowiesarea | 11/6/2009, 7:46 pm EST

Tokio Hotel winning for Best Group was a great moment. Bill always gives such heartfelt and enthusiastic acceptance speeches.

And their performance was wonderful.

Kathryn | 11/6/2009, 7:52 pm EST

Tokio Hotel were simply stunning yesterday. The performance was breathtaking and they deserved the Best Group award so much. They were the highlight of the night and I’m so proud of them.

bootzilla | 11/6/2009, 8:19 pm EST

Ummm Tokio Hotel is crappy. Sorry, I just don’t see it.

alal | 11/6/2009, 8:21 pm EST

tokio hotel are garbage rs please delete comments made refering to them as it is irrelevant someone on this site obviously loves this b rate emo band and is trying to advertise for them. please get rid of it

intheparkinglot | 11/6/2009, 8:30 pm EST

Yeah, it’s pretty much been said already by many fans: Tokio Hotel rocked it.

Emily | 11/6/2009, 8:40 pm EST

I would like to reply to Jane, Tokio Hotel does NOT have 1 or 2 fans. They have a dedicated fan base who votes for an incredible band with tons of talent. Did you see their performance? It was beautiful, memorable, and amazing. They rocked it, and deserved bset band. They just realesd a groundbreaking new record that is getting rave reviews around the world. Rolling Stone was lame not to include Tokio Hotel in the article, since they were the true stars of the night. Did you hear the deafening screams of the audience when they won? Those were NOT the screams of 1 or 2 people.

Val | 11/6/2009, 9:38 pm EST

Why didn’t you mention Tokio Hotel? They were the best act of the night and they won a VERY important award. You should have mentioned them. They’re RScover-worthy, in my opinion.

Arisa | 11/6/2009, 9:48 pm EST

I loved how Green Day opened the show! I didn’t think anyone was going to be able to take center stage after that performance.
But Tokio Hotel really blew me away. Their song was relevant to the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall and the real footage on their background was amazing. I think a lot of people forgot that the EMAs were celebrating that anniversary in Berlin, but those guys really brought it home and represented their country well. The performance was amazing and they deserved to win that award for Best Group. Definitely the highlights of the night.

Lizzie | 11/6/2009, 9:59 pm EST

HI! it was truly an awesome night but you forgot to mention the most SEARING part of the night – TOKIO HOTEL’s new song > WORLD BEHIND MY WALL – that fit PERFECTLY to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL – as Tokio Hotel’s modern words reflect isolation it just fit the longing of a country divided then unified in a massive act of PEACE shattering a very SOLID icon of the COLD WAR. it was an AMAZING performance if you ask me & the most relevant not to mention EUROPEAN considering its the European Music Awards not VMA part 2 in europe. :)

TorialuvsBill | 11/6/2009, 10:12 pm EST

Tokio Hotel was the best part of the night! They Rocked that stage!!! <333

Fazza | 11/6/2009, 10:23 pm EST

You mentioned aaaaallll the artists and bands who didn’t win anything, the ones on the red carpet, the ones who went to the after-party, the ones who won small awards and you also happened to mention the bands who won big awards..

BULLSHT.

Tokio Hotel won “Best Band” last night, and not one credit for their effing good performace?! Heck only one mention of their name.. now that’s an epic fail Rolling Stone.

bluewaterboy | 11/6/2009, 10:35 pm EST

Sorry everyone. These are not just a couple of Tokio Hotel fans posting. It’s pretty easy to tell from the wording. Also ,I see many of them on other sites and they all have different profiles and pages. And they are not just a bunch of fangirls either.I’ve been to a couple of their concerts and that fanbase is as diversified as you will find.I will admit the first 100 ft in front of the stage is normally pretty young, but hey, they can run faster when the doors are opened.MTV is starting to catch on because as usual they are seeing the $$$.Rolling stone is dragging–too many old guys(like me)TH makes them feel old.(unlike me)There’s no denying that these guys are damn good. They are also genuinely good kids. You don’t hear anything bad coming out of their mouths or being said about them. Many of us started watching them 5 yrs ago and have seen them evolve into something very special. How special?I think we are all going to be surprised when that is finally answered. It’s going to be quite an exciting ride with this group in the future.

Raye | 11/6/2009, 10:47 pm EST

The EMAs were amazing! But for me, the highlight of the night was definitely Tokio Hotel! Their performance was EPIC! ^_^ Best group, whoot! :D

Brittany Errickson | 11/6/2009, 10:52 pm EST

my fav part of the night was seeing Tokio Hotel recieve the best band award. bill’s speech was so sweet

Marina | 11/6/2009, 10:55 pm EST

LMAO @ Kim
“Oh, and Katy Perry’s voice made babies cry, as usual.”
LMAO aha ya, she really shouldn’t sing. My ears rang for a while afterwards. Her hosting was horrid too.
Anyway, I loved U2’s performance, and Jay-Z joining them made it really cool. Green Day did a great job opening the show, and Tokio Hotel’s performance was really cool too. I kinda wanted to punch Pete Wentz and Katy Perry. Hopefully they have better hosts next year -_-

EMee | 11/6/2009, 11:10 pm EST

Tokio Hotel did a great performance and won for “Best Group”. Their speech was very touching. =} They deserved to win, and I find it hard to believe that anyone can just leave them out of the news.

Daniel | 11/6/2009, 11:11 pm EST

Tokio Hotel merece ser reconocido tambien

RayRay | 11/6/2009, 11:29 pm EST

Bill’s voice booming throughout the arena,Tom’s guitar rippin licks,Georg’s bass shaking the walls and his keyboard burning the place up and yes Gustav(Did you see him!!!)going nuts on his drums.
And lastly–beating out Green Day(who rocks all the time),U2,and the Jonas sluts.
Sorry, The night was Tokio Hotel’s.

PennyLane | 11/6/2009, 11:48 pm EST

I am in complete agreement with the rest of the comments here, I mean I loved Shakira and all but Tokio Hotel were the best act of the night by far. I wish more people covered Tokio Hotel News from the EMA’s, they were amazing!

vanessa | 11/6/2009, 11:55 pm EST

I have to agree Tokio Hotel was pretty good. The lead singer sang very well. Nice song. I will look for them on YouTube.

I like Jayz performance with that female singer. Wow, she sound like A. Keys. I did not like Beyonce’s performance. That was one of her worst. Don’t get me wrong, I love her but…

taintedlove | 11/7/2009, 12:15 am EST

I’m repeating what everyone else has already said, but hell, why not, it needs to be said 100 times over. It really is rather silly that you overlooked possibly THE most inspiring performance of the evening, that of four young men originally from East Germany. Yes, that’s right, Tokio Hotel. They were the face and voice/sound of their country that night, and they truly represented. Did you not hear the powerful yet delicate voice of Bill (lead singer) vibrating through your TV screen, brimming with emotion? Did you not see the symbolic commemoration of the fall of the Berlin Wall that this young band, who spent nearly all of their childhood in a reunified Germany, who were too young to remember this historical event, achieved so adeptly and so sentimentally?
You really missed out, didn’t you.

USkipper | 11/7/2009, 12:15 am EST

you said it right, rockinthosejeans,
“Why don’t you wake up (Rolling Stone)”. that’s proly why they missed ToHo’s performance. they were nodding off to sleep due to old age and their specs just slipped right offa their schnozzle.

Tokio Hotel’s fanbase is large, but they are mostly young. my advice to them is to sign up for MBA degrees and such, and lets launch our own magazine and give Rolling Stone “a run for their money”, if they can stay awake long enough ;)

Freiheit89xX | 11/7/2009, 12:28 am EST

TH actualy has fan that actually support them by commenting on event they attend and no itsnot the sameperson commenting over and over that would be just dumb they deserved best group and the perforance was AWSOME

Victoria Wright. | 11/7/2009, 12:31 am EST

Tokio Hotel. Tokio Hotel. Tokio Hotel. They Won Best Band && They Need To Be In This Article! BEST BAND! At The EMA’s THREE FREAKING YEARS IN A ROW!!! I Mean Come On Noww! Their Performance Was Wicked Amazingg! Tokio Hotel Is Awesome && The Best Bandd. Three Years; All I’m Sayingg. xD

Phoenix120 | 11/7/2009, 12:33 am EST

Watching the EMAs was a thoroughly enjoyable experience – except for Katy Perry, I cringed whenever she opened her mouth. Highlights for me were the performances of Tokio Hotel and U2. TH’s song of choice was perfect for the occasion. Shame you didn’t mention their Best Group win though – I would have thought that was big news.

nightsong | 11/7/2009, 12:57 am EST

great article….BUT, you forgot to mention the best part of the night. Tokio Hotel winning Best Band AND their AWESOME performance

Iyana | 11/7/2009, 12:58 am EST

Yes the EMA’s were really great and although those artists deserve mention, I also think Tokio Hotel had an amazing night. Being from Germany they were wll welcomed. They had an amazing, beautiful performance that supprted the anniversary of the wall and also they won Best Group award which they deserved so very much. Thanks for this article and congradulations Tokio Hotel…we love you.

Anonymous | 11/7/2009, 1:18 am EST

No specific mention of Tokio Hotel’s performance or winning action? :/
Pretty much everyone who commented on this had Tokio Hotel as their highlight! Please talk more about them in the future (:
Thanks for the overview though!

Megan | 11/7/2009, 1:21 am EST

Not too much info about Tokio Hotel :/ Pretty much everyone who commented on this had Tokio Hotel as their highlight! Please add more info about them in the future, they won Best Band and had an awesome performance!
Thank you! (:

t.rex | 11/7/2009, 2:01 am EST

Newsflash people: Tokio Hotel aren’t gods. Geez, I can’t understand how people will obsess over a band that is only kinda good at best.

xbloodystarx | 11/7/2009, 2:29 am EST

the EMA was wicked. katy perry did an ok job as host. my favorite part was when tokio hotel performed and won the award. almost made me cry.

Cindy | 11/7/2009, 4:10 am EST

t.rex
obviously you don’t understand. They might not be “gods” or whatever you just said, but they are very well deserve band that got to win that night. It’s actually really unfair for Rolling Stone not to mention them when this band happen to win an award in their very own COUNTRY!. So it’s understandble to see a lot of fans being upset about RS not mentioning Tokio Hotel’s winning for Best Group.

Harrington | 11/7/2009, 4:20 am EST

What’s the first thing Tokio Hotel does? Puts up two “thank-you”videos on their websites. One in German and one in english. What does that tell you about these guys.Very classy.

Cindy | 11/7/2009, 4:20 am EST

Oh and U2 performance was amazing. It was just kind of odd to see Jay Z in the same stage with U2 though.

nonamecomestomind | 11/7/2009, 4:24 am EST

The passion and heart that was apparent in Tokio Hotel’s performance surely deserved a bigger mention in this article? It was a showstopping performance and a fitting and beautiful tribute to a major historic event. Not to mention that they won an award in one of the biggest categories. Why the snub RS??

Kaulitz - Fan | 11/7/2009, 6:34 am EST

Didn’t you missed out the “best group” winner of the night? It’s not Green Day, KIng Of Leons or JBs…it’S TOKIO HOTEL and they also did an amazing performance!

Krisitie of Kentucky | 11/7/2009, 8:11 am EST

Hey Rolling Stone, Thank God for the internet I was able to watch the EMA’s and I thought it was a amazing show, U2 and Jay Z Green Day,Foo Fighters, and Beyonce put on amazing performances and I loved seeing the European stars too. Since it was the anniversary for the falling of the Berlin wall, I thought it was particularly special to see the Boys of Tokio Hotel and who had an amazing performance with “World behind my Wall” which was phenomenal if you got to see it plus they also won “BEST GROUP” award. I just wanted to give a big shout out the the boys, very happy for them, and for such young guys at such a special time and occasion were very mature and showed that they can and do run with the big dogs!!!

Ussilverstar91 | 11/7/2009, 9:10 am EST

Tokio Hotel’s performance was awesome. So happy they got Best Group.

Myrania | 11/7/2009, 9:19 am EST

I love the details except one thing… you know, another band won an award, ya know? A little Tokio hotel in there and their award? You didn’t even mention their performance of their song which matched perfectly for the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. There are other cultures and countries besides the US, you know. Cause it’s the EMAs, come on….

Other than that the EMA’s were pretty mind-blowing :3

Fitzbath | 11/7/2009, 9:55 am EST

I noticed Bono could rap but Jay-Z couldn’t sing. He was great at saying
“That’s right” “That’s right” “That’s
right”

tristan lush | 11/7/2009, 10:23 am EST

that was an amazing performance. Long live the jiggaman!!!

DianaWolfgang | 11/7/2009, 11:01 am EST

What? why did you guys forget/didn’t put tokio hotel here?!?! They OWNED the EMAs! seriously!

ves | 11/7/2009, 11:04 am EST

hey! what about tokio hotel? their performance was AMAZING, they performed in their homeland, and to top it off they won best group, beating black eyed peas, green day, kings of leon, and jonas brothers!

Francisco Estanga | 11/7/2009, 11:06 am EST

U2….best wishes!!!!!

diamond | 11/7/2009, 11:37 am EST

th | 11/7/2009, 12:13 pm EST

Scarlett | 11/7/2009, 12:22 pm EST

Why didn’t you mention Tokio Hotel?
Tokio Hotel did an AMAZING performance and they won an award…
Nice Job RS…

LebLiebeRock | 11/7/2009, 1:03 pm EST

Tokio Hotel must be mentioned!!! It was an amazing show, and Tokio Hotel was DEFINITELY the highlight! Their performance was incredible! Also, you did not note the fact that they won Best Group.

Nat'socialyakward@_@ | 11/7/2009, 1:08 pm EST

tokio hotel’s performance was awesome! ;) great show..

Val | 11/7/2009, 1:13 pm EST

And to the people who think that we’re all a one-person commenting machine, you’re wrong. Everybody knows that Tokio Hotel fans are the biggest, most dedicated band fanbase in existence, and we support our boys 100%. We happen to all agree that Rolling Stone needed to mention them as more than just being on stage. They were the highlight of the night – true European superstars.

Sharon_Kz | 11/7/2009, 1:17 pm EST

hey rolling stone Tokio Hotel won Best Group and performed too !!! they were great ! don’t ignore them !

Porsche | 11/7/2009, 1:19 pm EST

TH rocked it!! Best Group with teh best fans!

edgar | 11/7/2009, 1:25 pm EST

U2 rocked the gates!!

Bono's tan. | 11/7/2009, 1:42 pm EST

Why is Paul rapping? And what did he do with Bono? U2, please just play your music. That was an awesome performance until they brought Jay-Z out to rap. He was horrible.

Nathalie | 11/7/2009, 1:55 pm EST

Tokio Hotel, the performance at the EMAs was really amazing!! I am so proud that you got the award ”BEST GROUP” because you really deserve it ! Love ya guys and keep going!!

dani | 11/7/2009, 2:04 pm EST

i loved the emas this year!! tokio hotels performance was absolutly amazing i cried lol! Im so happy that they!!!

Dee | 11/7/2009, 2:23 pm EST

TOKIO HOTEL!!!!
Rolling Stone should really get with it!!

Aly | 11/7/2009, 2:33 pm EST

The EMA’s were pretty good this year. Except Katy Perry. I can’t beleive they let her host two years in a row. Ugh. She gives me a headache. Anway, Green Day and U2 were the highlights of the concert. Tokio Hotel were great too.

I don’t understand all the people that are so upset about Tokio Hotel fans commenting so much. What’s the big deal? If they like the band, they should be able to comment as much as they like.

Pam | 11/7/2009, 3:41 pm EST

There were some amazing artists. The Foo Fighters and Green Day did very powerful performances. Billie Joe Armstrong created a real rock´n´roll moment when he made his way through the crowd. And U2 together with Jay-Z were very special! Their performance was really a great way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.

LOL | 11/7/2009, 4:13 pm EST

Do the math people, TH won cause a LOT of fans voted!!!!!Now how stupid to assume that these comments made on this site are by a few people, can you prove that? No you Can’t!

Boy, the stupidity of some people blows my mind!

Josie-Sue | 11/7/2009, 4:47 pm EST

Damn! MidnightMonsoon!I like that.I wonder if I steal it I’ll get caught using it? No,just kidding Midnight.
On a serious note,Jay-Z or any of these other Rap Boys should not get on stage with these girls like Alicia or the one that was with him onstage at the EMAs.Their beautiful voices make that gutter garble sound even worse!Maybe Katy and Jay??
By the way,who in the hell nominated M&M for the “FAVORITE POP/ROCK MALE” for the upcoming(later this month)American Music Awards??? I mean WTF!! Was that you Rolling Stone??Or was it ABC?You guys never cease to amaze me.That’s like nominating 50 No-Sense for Country Male of the Year.

SHCC | 11/7/2009, 6:06 pm EST

HIGHLIGHTS!
When Tokio Hotel performed
When Tokio Hotel Won
Pete!!

Srey Pich | 11/7/2009, 6:54 pm EST

thanks for mentioning the highlights of the show but you still missed out on Tokio Hotel’s AMAZING performance and their win for Best Group. I thought their performance was one of the best and it definitely should’ve been mentioned more than this.

By the way to those doubting that each Tokio Hotel mention is a different fan: believe it. Tokio Hotel fans are only supporting them so much on here because we feel that Rolling Stone has completely neglected a wonderful performance from an amazing band.

HORE | 11/7/2009, 6:59 pm EST

Tokio Hotel owned this night. Why the hell didn’t you mention their performance of “World behind my wall”? Is was so epic, heartbreaking and beautiful. And they won best group over Jonas Brothers, Black Eyed Peas, Kings of leon and Green Day! That is AMAzing for a German band! Shame on you, RS.

Nanz | 11/7/2009, 7:16 pm EST

Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2 was good but my favorite performance of the EMAs was World Behind My Wall by Tokio Hotel. No wonder they won the award for Best Group.

Nikki | 11/7/2009, 8:33 pm EST

Tokio Hotel is pretty good!!!!

saltydogfish | 11/7/2009, 9:29 pm EST

You think this article is bad you should see Spin Magazine’s.Big,long article.Somehow they forgot to mention Tokio Hotel. It’s like they were not even there. They win the most prestigious award of the night and not a word.To top that off they have 12 nice big photos.Again,no Tokio Hotel. You are going to fall out of your chair. You will not believe how blatant they are. They must really be pissed that TH won that award.
Time to rally that huge fanbase again!!!!

MM | 11/7/2009, 9:35 pm EST

The vma’s was kick-ass, the best music award show i have seen in a long time, well Katy Perry sucked hardcore. My husband & i laughed are asses of, she was trying so hard to sing & look sexy, i felt sorry for her. I didn’t know much about TOKIO HOTEL, but after i heard that song live & seen Bill walk his sweet little rock star ass down that catwalk- i was hooked,i ran out & bought the cd asap. Looking at all these comments above, i have too say I’m not the only one that was blown away by them. I just wished that i found out about them sooner!

Thylek | 11/8/2009, 1:18 am EST

Whoa, hold on there…no Tokio Hotel mention? Are you kidding me? Am I missing something here? Probably one the best performances of the night and you casually forgot to mention anything about it, really? Is Tokio Hotel too much for you to handle? I may start to believe that. Whoa, just whoa…

Katrina | 11/8/2009, 8:37 am EST

Is it just because Tokio Hotel is German that they didn’t get a mention? Even tho they won Best Group and did an amazing performance apparently they aren’t famous or important enough to write about?

I think the fact that they beat Green day is reason enough to give them a mention >_> And yet you only talked about Green Day WHO DIDN’T EVEN WIN.

Dan | 11/8/2009, 1:40 pm EST

Are you serious?Tokio Hotel fooking sucks ass…

Aron5264924 | 11/8/2009, 2:00 pm EST

Tokio Hotel was the highlight of this night. Why didn’t you mention their breathtaking performance? And the fact that they won over Green Day and Joans Brothers in Best Group?

InYourShadow | 11/8/2009, 3:53 pm EST

Tokio Hotel won Best Group, yayy! I am so proud of my four German heroes. It’s their third EMA in a row! And their performance was just pure perfection.

Cheryl | 11/8/2009, 8:33 pm EST

I think World Behind My Wall was the most awesome performance of the awards. Congrats Tokio Hotel on winning Best Group. This band is gonna take the USA by storm.

Chrissysue | 11/8/2009, 11:40 pm EST

You know,Cheryl is right. The only thing is-they are already taking the USA by storm(or hurricane)

Europe | 11/9/2009, 8:19 am EST

Few fans… Tokio Hotel have already sold at least six millions album without being that famous in United States, and singing in german, I mean, german! It’s not like english, and all over europe people was singin it!. Including Isrlael, that’s is a BIG deal for a german band! Not to mention what happened in France. The president invited them to sing in front of a 500.000 people crowd. Since they’re not a Disney’s product, maybe it was worth a mention. That was before Humanoid album, now on the top of every european chart. I’m not a die hard fan, I’m not a teeneger, and I love all kind of music, I like them, as I like other, but I can’t stand the way american media often underestimate not american music, except for the british one. We, europeans, don’t do that. Like with movies, if the box office gross is huge but the most of it comes from europe it’s not worth it. Show a little respect for half a billion people! We should all stop buying u.s. music and watching u.s. movies for a year or two, so maybe that damn attitude would change!
Sorry for any mistake, english it’s not my first language.

Zach | 11/9/2009, 8:43 am EST

i’ve never even heard of tokio hotel. but jz jumping on the stage with u2 now thats too cool.

we love | 11/9/2009, 11:19 am EST

@EUROPE: Thank you for saying that! I’m from the US & i fell the same way! I came to comment, show some love for a great band, that didn’t get mention. Hey RS TH beat out all the band you love, wright about & put on your mag covers, soooo what up? If TH was from America you would be all over them, but i Guess RS is too caught up on that fake rocker- Lambert, his new single is hard too find on the itune charts. Talk about jumping the gun on that one RS!

mariTH | 11/9/2009, 2:25 pm EST

Tokio Hotel WON *SCREAM*
F**CK jo-hoes
GEIL performance
ich liebe dich Tokio hotel für immer
Te Amo Bill Kaulitz para toda mi vida
miamor *sigh*
put Tokio Hotel ON THE COVER PLEASE??

Kritik | 11/9/2009, 2:40 pm EST

What a shame, U2 might just let one of the greatest songs ever written get ruined by the obnoxious JAY Z and stained it with cRAP.

Why?

shingi | 11/9/2009, 2:42 pm EST

to whoever said Tokio Hotel had the biggest fanbase has never experience beatles effect.

Hole | 11/9/2009, 3:06 pm EST

Do you guys update this site like once a week…your news is so old…..you need to get with the times. When college websites are reporting the Steven tyler story and you are still on last weeks news it is a bad sign of things to come. And take deer tick off the smoking section. It has been like 3 months

black eyed | 11/9/2009, 6:14 pm EST

PLACEBO WON best alt.!!!!!!! SO happy for them. Its well deserved! :) :)
Green day did a top notch job as well. They are ACE live. such a riot!

Jawn | 11/9/2009, 6:18 pm EST

Jay-Z is am embarassment and a sure sign of music’s decline. And U2? They haven’t produced anything truly noteworthy since Joshua Tree. And I like Zooropa. A lot. But the band is way past dues. Sunday, Bloody, Sunday? What a pretentious piece of crap that song is, forget that it’s over 25 years old. It sucks. And they do too, completely lacking soul, it having been overwhelmed and subsumed by ego and wealth and fame long ago… Put them to bed.

Dominique | 11/9/2009, 7:51 pm EST

Jawn, I am sorry Nickelback did not get nominated or even mentioned, but you don’t have to be so bitter about it!

tristan | 11/9/2009, 8:12 pm EST

nothing beats jay-z coming out unexpectantly and rocking out!!!!

Jawn | 11/9/2009, 9:51 pm EST

Nickelback is garbage, at least on that we can agree… But Jay-Z??? Come on!!! That is certainly NOT music, nor, if it is, is it ‘note’worthy… The guy’s a pompous wannabe, not that far removed from the likes of Kanye or Madonnye… And please tell me what of U2’s music over the last 20 years or so really stands out, or will stand the test of time… Mofo? Maybe… Vertigo… I don’t think so… Most of the rest is unadulterated shiite. The last record of theirs I bought was ‘Atomic Bomb’ and I couldn’t even get through one listen without fast-forwarding… There’s something wrong there and it aint my ears. I grew up in the seventies when music was made for its own sake. And don’t even talk to me about ‘Beautiful Day,’ an anthem for wankers by wankers. Watch U2 play backup for Gimmie Shelter and you’ll see what I’m talking about. Mick is the real deal; U2 are charlatans, and they have most of the global dimwits by the tail…

digga | 11/10/2009, 2:17 am EST

Oh, I forgot to say..

Tokio Hotel

Romantic_Verses | 11/10/2009, 2:43 am EST

You only mention Tokio Hotel in passing? They deserve so much more than that, beating out Kings of Leon, Black Eyed Peas, and the Jonas Brothers! It was an amazing night at the EMAs this year, especially for Tokio Hotel(as well as us TH fans)! Their performance was nothing short of spectacular, the lyrics taking on a historically profound double meaning in light of the 20 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, especially with them being native Germans. This was only emphasized by the performance itself with dramatic scenes on the screen behind them depicting the Berlin Wall and events around it. The performance climaxed in the symbolic brick wall behind them literally being ‘burned down’ by the intense pyrotechnical display on stage. The whole thing was simply fantastic(not to mention the fact that Bill’s singing was flawless)! And then, the award! I honestly don’t know who was more excited about that win, the band or us fans lol! I know I voted my heart out and was exceedingly happy to see them win that award that they more than deserved. And they deserve to have you mention them in more than passing. Do you not yet understand that Tokio Hotel is getting big and we want more of them!

greekitaliangerman89 | 11/10/2009, 2:33 pm EST

Tokio Hotel’s performance was outstanding and amazing!!!! i am so happy to see that the won an award also! :D

greekitaliangerman89 | 11/10/2009, 2:37 pm EST

Tokio hotel’s performance was amazing and creative bill sounding amazing tom, georg and gustav were fantastic!

Sande | 11/10/2009, 3:02 pm EST

The EMAs were so much better than the VMAs this year! Green Day kicking ass right out of the gate was just epic! I loved how the EMAs were celebrating the Fall of the Berlin wall with amazing performances by U2 (who began recording Achtung Baby in Berlin as the wall fell) and Tokio Hotel, the home-grown band from what was formerly East Germany. I really thought the song they performed was beautiful and so appropriate for the occasion. The low-light of the whole thing was Katy Perry. I still don’t understand how people think she is entertaining. She’s not.

Sande | 11/10/2009, 3:03 pm EST

Jawn- You like Zooropa? You must be the one, then.

molly | 11/10/2009, 3:18 pm EST

wwooooT!!! i love the ema’s they are so much fun! i loved tokio hotel’s performance!!!

Rolling One | 11/10/2009, 9:30 pm EST

I’m pretty sure RS forgot to mention Tokio Hotel because they blow chunks! I don’t work for anyone I’m just a fan of good music.. Sorry TH fans I just don’t get it

Mathew | 11/11/2009, 7:51 am EST

EMINEM WON BEST MALE. The best award that could be won which shows Europe thinks he’s the best. Sorry haters.

Mathew | 11/11/2009, 7:59 am EST

Eminem has to win all the AMAS he is nominated for now including best pop/rock- come on even u haters know no1 is better than Em nowadays- paul mccartney’s old and every1 else cant compete.

mmd | 11/13/2009, 12:40 am EST

Come on people. Honestly U2 bringing Jay-Z out during “Sunday Bloody Sunday?!” It was horrible. Absolute rubbish. I’m the biggest U2 fan and think Jay-Z is great too but honestly this was an awkward fit to say the least. Why does Jay-Z have to come out and ruin a great melodic song like Sunday Bloody Sunday. Ain’t the first time.Remember the Grammys with Coldplay during “Lost?” And what did Jay-Z rap during that otherwise very good tune? “To know Bobby [Brown] then you have to know Bobby now” WTF!!! Same deal at this year’s EMAs. And Bono was pathetic trying to rap. As great as these 2 artists are, it was out of place and sounded retarded.

flabbergasted | 11/13/2009, 5:04 pm EST

in time U2 will come to realise that Jay Z was actually born out of their urban chicago hymns of the late 80s/early 90s. It’s the collective brainchild of dirk dreberard that makes the duo so unstoppable in this era of pseudo-electroeroticism and male grandadas.
the tokio hotel thing i thought was a tad over the top – the flames reminded me that to mock the jews for what they became is never clever and never funny. A resurgence of jewish fascism will not, in this modern world, ever be a realistic ideal with which we should shake our children at.

all in all, a good piece of rock artism. let’s hope we hear more from the ever sexy Jay Z, especially in banana pyjamas.

Bryan | 11/14/2009, 11:54 pm EST

U2 and Jay-Z had the best performance. Great song, great message, and a great show of respect to Bob Marley. Tokio Hotel isn’t that great of a band. They’re nothing special, all stuff i’ve heard before. Also, a band doesn’t need pyro for the performance to be good, and if they do, then the band sucks.
