Slash has recruited an impressive roster of guest musicians to appear on Slash & Friends, the Velvet Revolver guitarist’s 2010 solo album. Pals like Dave Grohl, Flea, Chris Cornell, the Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger and pretty much every Guns n’ Roses member not named Axl Rose will make appearances on the LP. However, Slash revealed that one guy he really wanted to work with rebuffed him: The White Stripes/Raconteurs/Dead Weather’s Jack White.

“I wanted to get Jack White to sing on something, but he didn’t want to sing,” Slash told Musicradar.com. “He said ‘I’ll play drums, I’ll play guitar, but I don’t wanna sing.’ He was one guy that I wanted to work with. Pretty much everyone else that I went after I managed to get.”

While White opted out, Slash was reportedly able to recruit another of Michigan’s most musical native sons, Iggy Pop, plus artists like Fergie, Cypress Hill, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Meat Loaf and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Slash also found time in his busy schedule to appear on someone else’s album, contributing guitar to Rihanna’s “Rockstar 101″ on Rated R.

According to Slash’s Twitter, the guitarist recorded the final track for his solo album yesterday and Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy handled vocals. “Record will be completely done this month,” Slash promises. In addition to a November 16th appearance on the new Lopez Tonight, Slash & Friends will perform at a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Youth Nation at Hollywood’s Avalon Theater on November 22nd. Slash’s friends that night will include Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale, Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington, Dave Navarro and Travis Barker.

I read about the Slash and friends gig overseas and wish I was there. I am really looking forward to getting this disc. Ozzy was even at the gig overseas. Meatloaf, now who would have thought of that? He has a great voice.
Who wouldn’t want Jack White to sing on their project? His voice is a rarity nowadays, somewhere between Robert Plant, Terry Reid and Marc Bolan. I can understand, he still wants to be recognized as the voice on his own stuff and it will probably be that way for a while. (Other than the Stones movie) I wish I could have played on his record. These gigs are kind of like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction nights, mulitple stars doing all kinds of stuff together as a band, it’s kind of like Slash’s version of Ringo’s All Star Band tours. He knows how to throw a party.

im glad that | 11/5/2009, 1:03 pm EST

I love Slash and Jack White and I am glad he isn’t singing. All of those people on the record are awesome but these kinds of records are always so pointless. They make for an impressive list but beyond that has there ever been a good song on one of these things? JW makes incredible records with musicians who are virtually unknown outside of the main stream.

Slash is a great guitar player, but I don’t really like him without Axl Rose. I wish those two would make amends, but they’re both so fucking stubborn. And good for Jack, it’s about time someone else says no to Slash.

Wow, if Jack White was ready to play guitar or drums on your album, why not say yes to that? The potential guitar duel alone could have been pretty great. No singing neccesary. What a wasted opportunity!

these types of collabs are pointless and mostly forgettable, like the tribute records for every group out there
Santana did it “right” once, but then messed up by trying to do it two more times after Supernatural…..lame.

Cypress Hill? Fergie? I’m kinda disappointed Slash didn’t ask Kermit the frog and Weird Al to guest as well.

Dave Grohl, Flea, Chris Cornell, with the Pussycat Dolls’ Nicole Scherzinger???

90’s act have no shame, where are their values? where are their so called “alternative” ideas?

-Radiohead is doing songs for Twilight.
-Chris Cornell did a album with Justin Timbarlake.
-Smashing Pumkins did a album with Hanson.
-Pearl Jam are doing Target commercials (for real!).

What’s next? Trent Reznor walking the Hollywood red carpet with his girlfriend?

Wait!

Oh no, you mean these musicians did these things without consulting you first!?!
The audacity!!

BTW, it was just James Iha who worked with a Hanson. I have a feeling they will do whatever they want. Something about freewill and such.

Jack White is a no talent assclown. Fuck the music industry. It’s all beauty contests, “super groups”, and 3 minute radio edits with monotonous lyrics.

Slash couldn’t create anything new since the 90s. And now, he plays with Fergie!!! Fergie. He plays a lot with her. She is one of his new girlfriends.
