Clips From Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” Hit the Web

11/3/09, 1:51 pm EST

Can’t bear waiting another 20 days to find out what Adam Lambert’s debut disc For Your Entertainment sounds like? Thanks to the Amazon.co.uk MP3 store, which along with iTunes has made it a habit lately of spoiling the surprise of upcoming releases, Glambert Nation can now listen to 30-second clips of every song on For Your Entertainment, giving fans a preview of the musical odyssey the American Idol runner-up takes on his first LP.

Think Lambert’s album cover is out of this world? Check out these alternate takes dreamed up by Rolling Stone.

Based on the half-minute previews, For Your Entertainment seems to be evenly divided between glam stompers like the title track, “Sure Fire Winners” and “Strut” and big ballads like “Broken Open,” “A Loaded Smile” and “Soaked,” which was written by Muse’s Matt Bellamy and sounds similar to the band’s own “Unintended.” You can definitely hear the influence of Lambert’s all-star songwriters as well. “Music Again,” penned by the Darkness’ Justin Hawkins, serves as a glamtastic opening track that both welcomes listeners to For Your Entertainment and has us wishing the “I Believe In a Thing Called Love” rockers would reform.

Lambert live: shots from the American Idol tour.

As Rolling Stone reported yesterday, Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo also contributed a track called “Pick U Up,” which Lambert transforms into what sounds like a beefed-up Make Believe song with Rivers on vocal steroids. To hear 30 glorious seconds of the Gaga-penned “Fever,” the Pink-and-Max Martin-written “Whataya Want From Me” and the rest of For Your Entertainment, head over to the Amazon.co.uk MP3 store now before they realize the error of their ways. Or, if you want your FYE spoiler-free, head over to the AdamOfficial Website to preorder the album.

Idol is so cheap they made this cover at a local high school… in the 80’s… how’d they afford the time machine? bad. bad. bad. I hope this isn’t a reference to the songs.

fyi | 11/3/2009, 3:22 pm EST

Lazer: “Idol” doesn’t pick the covers. Adam chose his cover. I don’t like it either, but it’s not “Idol’s” fault. Just FYI.

tired | 11/3/2009, 4:05 pm EST

RS is bank-rolling Adam or is it really that slow in music news.

Multi-O | 11/3/2009, 4:12 pm EST

Rolling Stone is gonna have multiple orgasms when this album is released!!!

me again | 11/3/2009, 4:32 pm EST

This guy’s got talent, but RS gives him too much ink. Get over it already.

??? | 11/3/2009, 4:39 pm EST

two comments shot down by the censors. I guess I can’t be critical of Rolling Stone.

musicalC | 11/3/2009, 4:43 pm EST

ummmm lazer and fyi who cares. adam looks hot either way.

Anonymous | 11/3/2009, 4:49 pm EST

interesting that Adam’s cover background is all but identical to former Idol contestant Blake Lewis’s album.

Cameron | 11/3/2009, 4:52 pm EST

I am pleasantly surprised with the clips. I watched maybe five episodes of Idol last season but I always liked Adam. I think his single is really fun and this album is eclectic as I’d hoped it would be. I will definitely be buying it!

dusty | 11/3/2009, 5:13 pm EST

I really like most of these snippets and love a few of them. It’s a WINNER!

bextor | 11/3/2009, 5:21 pm EST

WTF is wrong with RS?? Do they even care for artists who are not release from the lab. of American Idol?? such a waste of space to feature this guy over and over again on your website

kaaketu | 11/3/2009, 5:41 pm EST

Epic win!!! Totally exceeds all my high hopes for his album! I love the variety of sounds!

Marcus | 11/3/2009, 5:43 pm EST

Bextor, if you go to the homepage, there are numerous articles about numerous other artists. I see plenty of stuff about Rihanna too… Maybe that’s because she, like Lambert, has an album dropping in the next month, therefore there’s things to talk about regarding them?

Sorry to inject some common sense into your ranting, but your comment is a waste of space too.

AnninSD | 11/3/2009, 5:48 pm EST

The snippets are great and make me glad I ordered the Collector’s Edition CD on AdamOfficial.
A real mix of everything, dance, pop, rock, ballads; wonderful.

kylee | 11/3/2009, 6:09 pm EST

the cover might be too controversial. but the music is all what matters. for those who bash RS for being friendly to Adam, go to listen to his music first.

BBKing | 11/3/2009, 6:14 pm EST

Wow, they all sound very promising. I’m impressed.

MUSIC AGAIN is very good. They should release that next.

Teresa Sluder | 11/3/2009, 6:27 pm EST

I am truly going to love this album. I knew it was going to be good, but after hearing the snippits it is plain that it is going to far exeed my expectations. Sure wish he had got some better advice on the cover….but it is the music that matters!

JJ | 11/3/2009, 7:02 pm EST

I love it!!!
Adam’s album.

Okay.. I love them all.. LOL

forreal | 11/3/2009, 8:19 pm EST

Please enought with the Adam coverage its all too much for such average product coming out. This reads like an add from Amazon more than a critical assesment ” to hear 30 glorious seconds head over to Amazon.co.ku.mp3″ Now I understand the Adam coverage…this is advertisement in the guise of journalism….how far has RS fallen …corporate sellouts.

Jules | 11/3/2009, 8:32 pm EST

My favourites so far Broken Open, A Loaded Smile, Strut and Music Again but the other snippets are pretty awesome on repeated hearings. Will definitely buy album but will have to wait for Amazon as AO is for USA only!

GG | 11/3/2009, 10:46 pm EST

I don’t like the songs. Sounds like they gave him leftover songs from other artist, that didn’t want them.

media bias | 11/4/2009, 12:02 am EST

The cover was done in house by Sony/RCA and follows the Idol debut layout formula pretty much. Nobody listens to lyrics anymore but if you do, you will see that they were specific to him on those he cowrote and which were submitted to him. The other the three that were submitted from other SONGWRITERS, Pink, Gaga and Bellamy, they are appropriate to his concept and message. They were certainly not “left overs” since Adam Lambert will not sing a song with no personal meaning or that he doesn’t love. Gaga was interviewed saying it was a demo she wrote that SHE couldn’t make work for herself and immediately thought of him. She also attended the recording and collaborated with him on the vocal arrangement. He had many more that were cut and not used. Several artists were THRILLED to have their songs accepted then chosen such as Aimee Mayo who tweeted about it for weeks on pins and needles. Her statement was “I have never worked so hard to get on a record. The competition is fierce” and that Adam Lambert had inspired her to write again and she worked on that song for SIX MONTHS (cowritten with her husband and Ryan Tedder). Even if you’re reading Rolling Stone please don’t try to be so cool as to dismiss the efforts of so many people who put their heart and souls into making music for YOU.

Eileen | 11/4/2009, 12:31 am EST

This is a magnum opus. I love all of the songs because they are all Adam, yet so diverse. My favorites so far are “Soaked,” “Fever” and “Music Again.” He is the most amazing, glorious singer I’ve ever heard in my life. This album will be epic!

T63 | 11/4/2009, 12:53 am EST

What an amazing sounding debut album! Most of the songs sound like they’ll be at least good, with several promising to be epic, namely “Music Again,” “Soaked” and “Fever.” I also love the title track, “For Your Entertainment.” It has wickedly fun lyrics and a great beat!

niclay | 11/4/2009, 2:13 am EST

To Media bias…It’s crap…pink…lady gaga…bellamy…formula crap…heart and soul my ass…dollar signs is all this crap is…rolling stone sucks…adam sucks and you suck.

Trisha | 11/4/2009, 9:50 am EST

Wow! Music again had me at hello…Adam’s voice is so unreal. This album is sure to be a fire winner!!

Schultz | 11/4/2009, 10:04 am EST

Pure, unadulterated, crap! Anyone can sound good in the studio – Just ask Britney.

cookie | 11/4/2009, 10:23 am EST

The Britney comment/comparrison is ridiculous and unintelligent!

Adam Lambert can really sing–Brit is a packaged singer with lot’s of help from studio tricks because she has no accomplished singing voice. But she does have blond hair so, give her a music contract quick!

Clearly, you did not see Adam Lambert sing on AI or on tour. His vocal ability has touched just about everyone–even those who are not fans appreciate his vocal abilities.

The CD snippets are too short for a review at this time. I did feel that a lot of the electro-dance tunes sounded the same-sigh. He has such a wonderful vocal range/octaves which I did not hear clearly on those snippets.

No matter how they sound on the CD–it will be his LIVE performance that will sell these songs to fans. He is one hell of a live performer and everything sounds better when you see him sing in person.

Nobody 44 | 11/4/2009, 10:53 am EST

Yeah, anyone can sound good in a studio, true. So that’s why you should have heard Adam sing LIVE either at a concert this summer or on any of the numerous appearances on Idol or talk shows like GMA. That guy’s voice is unreal! If you compare him to someone like Britney, then you obvs haven’t heard him sing. This album is going to be epic pop/rock. The snippets have everyone longing for it to be Nov. 23 already.

Bridget | 11/4/2009, 11:08 am EST

November 24 can’t come soon enough – I can’t wait to buy this album. Almost every single clip moves, intrigues, and/or excites me.

The album cover, I think, embodies Adam’s “be outrageous, take chances, believe in yourself” side.

Whether you like that “look” of his or not(if you don’t, he’s got plenty of others that you might find more . . . comfortable), I think you’d have to admit he does “pretty” pretty well.

It’s obvious he gets a kick out of the cover, and I think it’s like a gift or acknowledgement to himself that he’s managed to begin living a dream, HIS dream . . . (and what are the lives of the internet-commentary-haterz like?)

I say, more power to you, Adam – I’m screaming your name.

SS | 11/4/2009, 11:10 am EST

Adam’s hags are going too love this shit!

Inevitable | 11/4/2009, 5:12 pm EST

And the Grammy goes to…

Anonymous | 11/4/2009, 7:00 pm EST

Ugh! these haters really need to find some counseling. It must be really hard living life so miserably.

Cindy | 11/4/2009, 7:18 pm EST

I love all the songs from what I heard so far. “Broken Open”, “Sleepwalker”, “Pick U UP”, and “Fever” stands out to me. I’m not surprised at the quality and variety of Adam’s effort, his talent goes beyond his voice. He knows music and it’s industry, creative and very smart CEO of “Adam, Inc.”

I’m curious to hear why none of the Red One produced songs made it in to this album. There must be plenty of songs left over for another CD. Will there be a deluxe album?

winnie | 11/4/2009, 7:36 pm EST

Great post, Media Bias. I am really pleased that I like most of the snippets. What is great to see is that different people are crazy about different songs, which means mission accomplished for Adam, who was trying to span multiple genres and have something for everyone. Those of you who are displeased because it’s not ‘revolutionary’ enough for you need to chill a bit. Expectations for this album have been unrealistically high. He is extremely talented, but come down to earth, people. He has never claimed to be the savior of the music industry, though others have laid that on him. Just relax and enjoy his beautiful voice, and, in my view, really good songs(snippets, I know). And his performances and videos to come…well, that’s another chapter. I’d better stop before I turn into one of those simpering fan girls(OK, I am one). Congratulations, Adam!

Jaime BONDage | 11/4/2009, 8:31 pm EST

dude’s got pipes, but why not do a full on balls out “glam” album a la Bowie, or Queen instead of this cheesy mom friendly crap..you’d think
a “artist” that’s stirred up as much controversy as he has would take bigger risks

carrmuse | 11/4/2009, 10:47 pm EST

I cannot decide which of the songs I like best. The 30 second snippet is just not enough to sway to one over the others. Over sound of the album is exciting and fresh and definitely something completely different. Pop music has gotten so tired with all the artist sounding the same. That whining, growling, rough voice sound is so yesterday. Adam Lamberts brings us something fresh and new. Most of the songs have an uplifting message and then Adam’s amazing voice just makes them something very special. I am a big 80’s rock fan and several of the cuts bring that amazing big sound with them reminiscent of Queen. This album rocks. I can’t name one album that I have loved every track but this one may be it. I think Mr Lambert has a winner.

crazedemcee, philippines | 11/5/2009, 5:01 am EST

I just posted my thoughts on “For Your Entertainment” in the previous RS article. And now, regarding these snippets I got to hear from mjsbigblog… “Strut” (that guitar thing – nice), “Fever” (the enunciation and accent), “Soaked” (soaring, chill-inducing vocals) and “Music Again” (70’s feel much??) immediately caught my attention. A couple of songs are generic and another song’s lyrics interests me (the one with baby clothes… did i hear it right? baby clothes made of leather and lace???)

About the album cover – the first thought that came to my mind was “Lisa Frank”! LOL! Hilarous! It was like he deliberately chose to mess this cover up (in a fun, lighthearted way) considering his kick-ass single cover (the black and white one which featured a killer stare). Very interesting, this Lambert guy. I’ve seen him on AI but wasn’t that much invested on him. He did stood out for me during the show. Didn’t know he was THIS controversial. Such an intricate, eccentric boy. (damn, I’m becoming a fan…)

Weegie | 11/5/2009, 2:51 pm EST

3 weeks ago – “He’s the best ROCKER to come along in 30 years”
Now – “I can’t decide if I like his faux Britney song better or the faux off off off Broadway shmaltzy tune !”
Edward G. Robinson voice – “Where’s your Rocker now ? Huh ? Huh ?”

MiMi | 11/5/2009, 5:53 pm EST

I love the album cover and I love Adam. His voice is amazing and every little snippet I heard was wonderful. Keep up the good work RS, we are CRAZY for anything about Adam. Best voice and performer to come along in a lot of years. Go Adam. I am buying 3 albums.

Unooooooo | 11/5/2009, 6:02 pm EST

Uno, for all the “he has a great technical voice” stuff…..he doesn’t have a pleasant sounding tone or voice.

LisaB | 11/6/2009, 12:02 pm EST

I can’t wait!!! counting the days!!

Loo | 11/7/2009, 9:08 am EST

I love Adam Lambert!

the REAL tc | 11/7/2009, 1:21 pm EST

looks just like Boy George.

cristina | 11/7/2009, 10:25 pm EST

I love all of them; something for every one, as promised. His multi-talent is a treasure! To haters – maybe you’re too cheap to afford to buy his CDs (pre-AI, during AI,post AI) and you judge him already!

Anonymous | 11/11/2009, 1:28 am EST

Weegie, You are one of the most negative person i’ve ever came across. I saw all your comments on the photo section and you’ve made fun of every artists and was down right mean to some of them. I think you’re a miserable sad asshole. Something must really have gone wrong in your life, I really feel sorry for you. Do you know what is like to be positive and happy?

ttweetie | 11/11/2009, 11:14 pm EST

Dear Rolling Stone,
Thank you for seeing the light of Adam Lambert early on — and thank you for shining it on us on a regular basis. BRILLIANT. You have a new fan, uh, well a tonofabunchof new fans! Kudos.

MW | 11/20/2009, 3:42 pm EST
