“There’s more to be revealed and more to be told,” Scott Weiland has said about recording a new album with Stone Temple Pilots. “The story’s not finished.” Those quotes date back to April 2008, when STP first announced plans to reunite to tour and record new music. The band has managed to keep it together since that initial tour, but there’s been no sign of a new STP album. That is, until now. Weiland talked to Spinner recently about the prospects of the band’s first album since 2001’s Shangri-La Dee Da, and vowed that STP will get to work on the new LP once they’re off the road.

“When we finish the album, there will be a big tour around its release and that will probably be a long tour,” Weiland said. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported in May that STP already had 18 songs written and that producer Don Was would be working on the LP. After that “long tour,” Weiland told Spinner he’d also get to work on his next solo album, the follow-up to 2008’s “Happy” in Galoshes.

The reunited band wrapped up their tour of the U.S. on October 25th and will next head to Canada for a trek that concludes November 24th in Nova Scotia. After that, two more shows are on the schedule, including a New Year’s Day show in Thackerville, Oklahoma, and then it’s studio time for Weiland and STP. Check out the band’s remaining tour dates:

Why does this article keep referring to them as “Weiland and STP”? Isn’t Weiland still part of STP, or is he pulling a Diana Ross and the Supremes thing?

It irritates me when this tour is talked about, and it keeps saying “it will conclude in Halifax Nova Scotia” but where the hell is NS when you look at any of the concert listings. Are we not as important as Regina Sask, London Ont, Kingston Ont, Thackerville OK???
C’mon, they ARE playing here, so why not throw the love around, and include this province in your listings, C’mon Rolling Stone… Get it together please.

I got the 2 CD version of Weidland’s Happy. Even as one of the minority of people who is interested in what he’s up to on a solo basis, I thought it was a bit long and dreary toward the end – including an odd cover of the traditional hymn “Be Not Afraid.” For the non-adventurous, it might be wise to stick with the 1 CD version. In any case, will be interesting to see what STP comes up with. Their last album was all right, but had the same kind of mix of tunes as No. 4 and was not well-promoted.

Let’s see if we can get some deluxe editions of classic STP albums in the meantime.

I hope it’s a killer comeback and not a fizzle. Scott’s a bonafide livewire and one of the last remaining iconoclastic frontmen.

I hope they can pull one out of their ass because the music scene is awful these days. It’s pretty sad when the buzz is about Rhianna’s new disc.

STP pulled the best of the early 90’s thing into a great stew, much better than Pearl Jam , I wont get into Nirvana, because that was a great one off from that time, but much better than the rest of the pack, STP’s best of, still interests me with all the plot twists.

Sorry but STP is post-grunge trash, simple as that.

ArmyOfAnyone | 10/31/2009, 10:04 pm EST

Good news indeed. Shangri-La-Di-Da was uneven, but still had some killer tunes while no. 4 is a classic.

I’m glad they’re back and making new music. I’ve always loved Stone Temple Pilots.

-That is exactly why they are so good. I think that description is a compliment. And I hope their new album is as edgy, trashy and raw as their live performaces!

one of the last true great rock bands.
and Shangri La De Da was SUPERB.
When it’s all said and done, why would this band not be considered the living legendary band that survived thrived and emerged from the 90s.

He was credited simply as “Weiland” on Core back in ‘92.

Generally speaking, journalists will quote the full name of both the band and people associated only once at the beginning of the article, and from there it’s standard to use the last name and any abbreviation the band might have.

IT’S ABOUT TIME THEY GOT TOGETHER TO AT LEAST , IN ESSENCE, TRY TO RECAPTURE WHAT THEY HAD AND MAY STILL HAVE..EDGY, RAW , IN YOUR FACE ,HONEST HARD ROCK..THE MUSIC INDUSTRY IS IN ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES..EVERYTHING IS FABRICATED, RIGHT DOWN WHAT BANDS ARE WEARING, AND HOW THEY’RE CUTTING THEIR HAIR, ETC..IT’S NOT ABOUT MUSIC ANYMORE..IT’S ABOUT SELLING OUT TO TRY AND SELL MILLIONS OF RECORDS…JUST GOD AWFUL !! HOPE STP WILL FLOOD ALL THESE YOUNG ,CRUMMY SUPOSSED ROCK BANDS INTO OBLIVION..ENOUGH WITH THESE SLIPKNOTS AND THESE BLINK 182′S,AND LINKIN PARKS ,AND ALL THESE TERRIBLY UNORIGINAL, POOR EXCUSE FOR A MUSICIAN BANDS…

Crizz | 11/19/2009, 4:44 pm EST

For true STP fans, we view STP as one of the greatest bands still remaining. We look forward to the new album with eagerness, and no matter what new sounds STP may have in store for us, we love them. The same goes for Scott Weiland fans. We truly think “Happy” and “12 Bar” are excellent. If your not a true fan, don’t listen, but also don’t comment.
