Nirvana Go On Rock Rampage in New “Live at Reading” Trailer

10/29/09, 2:58 pm EST

In 1991, Nirvana were in the bottom third of the bill on the first day of the Reading Festival. Just one year, later they headlined the event’s final night, turning out a legendary set that’s finally coming to CD and DVD on Tuesday, November 3rd. As the disc’s latest trailer demonstrates, the shows were a brutal display of of the rock gods’ raw energy: instruments were demolished, lyrics were wailed, minds were blown.

Kurt Cobain remembered: look back at photos, interviews and more from the RS archives.

The concert also features renditions of “School” (watch it here), “All Apologies,” all of their Nevermind hits and the first ever performance of “Tourette’s.” As Rolling Stone previously reported, November 3rd will also see the release of the 20th anniversary edition of the band’s debut album Bleach.

Looking forward to this seminal show on DVD.

In October 1991, Nirvana came to Austin, TX to play Liberty Lunch. I was going to school there at the time and “Polly” had begun to get some traction on the radio. This was prior to the album release, so me and a buddy were familiar with the band. I think “Teen Spirit” had just hit MTV.

We briefly talked about going down to check them out, cause tickets were 7 bucks. What the hell right?

But soon the hours passed, and we just never decided. We went our own way, and read about the show a few days later in the school paper.

With a few months, we realized it was one of the biggest mistakes we would ever make.

Saw them on the In Utero tour months before Kurt left us all – One of the best shows I have ever seen. Pat Smear was there on guitar – he and Christ N. played off each other very well; Grohl was a beast on drums; and Kurt was mesmerizing. I am not just saying that as a fan of the band, the guy really had a gift that was amazing to behold.

I’m hoping for some more live Nirvana. A DVD of the In Utero tour would be the next step. Hopefully they have some decent footage.
