Adam Lambert Defends Album Cover as “Deliberately Campy”

Reaction to Adam Lambert’s debut album cover has certainly been strong. Some fans have pledged their allegiance to the American Idol alum’s glamtastic artwork on For Your Entertainment, while others have slammed it as more than a tad over-the-top (the phrase “space alien from Planet Fierce” has come up — on both sides). Lambert himself weighed in on his Twitter today to explain the thinking behind the glowing, spacey cover: “Thank you to those who appreciate and understand that the album cover is deliberately campy. It’s an omage [sic] to the past. It IS ridiculous. For those that don’t get it: oh well… Glad to have gotten your attention. androgyny. Rock n Roll.”

Think Lambert’s album cover is out of this world? Check out these alternate takes dreamed up by Rolling Stone.

Lambert also revealed that FYE’s upcoming debut single was produced by hitmaker Dr. Luke. “There is also a song called ‘Soaked’ written by Muse,” Lambert wrote, noting that Justin Hawkins of U.K. glam squad the Darkness contributed a song called “Music Again,” too. Lambert has long confessed to being a fan of Muse, and sang the band’s “Starlight” during the American Idols Live tour.

As Rolling Stone previously reported, Lambert had also recorded a song written by Lady Gaga while working on For Your Entertainment, an LP that will reportedly boast all-star production from Howard Benson, RedOne, Max Martin, Ryan Tedder, Idol judge Kara DioGuardi and Rob Cavallo, who produced Lambert’s 2012 single “Time For Miracles.” “Glam is back,” Lambert promises.

Remember when artists had to write their own songs?

Bob | 10/28/2009, 1:46 pm EST

love adam, not loving the cover.

cynthia | 10/28/2009, 1:50 pm EST

looks like an updated version of Bowie’s Hunky Dory album cover to me. Go get im Adam! We welcome Glam back!

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 1:52 pm EST

there is nothing “rock ‘n’ roll” about this man or that cover

JGLK | 10/28/2009, 1:59 pm EST

Ugh, obviously.

I ‘GOT’ the album cover, but it was NOT well done, at all.

THE FONTS ARE HORRID, AS WAS IS THE PHOTOSHOPPING. Instead of camp, it turned out tacky, laughable and cheap.

I GOT and LIKED the concept, but not the execution. The end result is beyond poor, it’s embarrassing.

If they wanted to go for adrogynous and campy, they failed.

Some of my absolute favorite photos and moments of him are him in drag! I LOVE dress-up, I think camp is fabulous and adrogyny is beautiful, ie Bowie. But the airbrushing and photoshop editing is THAT bad.

There are stunning REAL PHOTOS of him looking GLAM and ADROGYNOUS. THIS however looks like it was designed by a 12 year old.

I would SUE the girl who designed it.

Ramona | 10/28/2009, 2:00 pm EST

He had to have known there would be comments like this about that album cover.

I’m beginning to think he’s got that “Look at me! Look at me!” syndrome that I HATE so much.

@STEVE | 10/28/2009, 2:02 pm EST

Er mate. Adam HAS written AND co-written his own songs for his debut album.

“He’s a very non-threatening sexual guy, the surprize is that he’s also a solid songwriter”

Star | 10/28/2009, 2:09 pm EST

I love the many facets of Adam Lambert. What a refreshing artist in this dreary world. I cant wait to hear the music!

Elaine Glambert | 10/28/2009, 2:14 pm EST

Lovin the Glam!!! Adam, you are so exciting!!! I Love you and I Get It.

Peaches | 10/28/2009, 2:18 pm EST

CAPTIVATING! Controversial is Exciting! Adam is a true CHAMELEON!

GotToLoveHim | 10/28/2009, 2:19 pm EST

Though I’m not really that excited about the cover, it doesn’t matter. I’m dying to hear his music. This man is one hell-of-a-singer and I cannot wait for him to tour. Glam is back and I cannot wait to experience it.

Eh | 10/28/2009, 2:25 pm EST

@ramona lol name ONE celebrity that isn’t a famewhore by default. ALL celebrities want you to look at them and pay attention to them, that’s how they make money.

As for the cover, it’s so hysterically awful and weird that it becomes amazing. It’s so beautifully tongue in cheek and so obviously not meant to be taken seriously in any way, shape for form. I love it.

gini | 10/28/2009, 2:25 pm EST

I agree Elaine, I get it! He just keeps shaking people up. Love him.

redraiderdc | 10/28/2009, 2:26 pm EST

Hey Anonymous: Take a peak at some early Crue and Poison record covers and tell me how “rock n roll” those guys looked.

Jez | 10/28/2009, 2:36 pm EST

Adam is one talented & polarizing artist, get ready, bitchez!

GG | 10/28/2009, 2:39 pm EST

OK? He meant too do that, what too purposely shit on his own career, & have people like my self, become less inserted in him? I don’t believe his save face tweet at all! Just look at the photo above on this page, his look in general is always campy & fake!

Alice | 10/28/2009, 2:48 pm EST

I want a vinyl to kiss!! This cover is the best idol cover ever!!

Me | 10/28/2009, 2:56 pm EST

Throwing some lyrics around the studio with your songwriters, doesn’t make you a real artist, or a songwriter. BTW this guy is always campy, so why are we all shocked?

Rose | 10/28/2009, 3:02 pm EST

Finally a talented artist that creates unexpected surprises to entertain on all fronts. GO ADAM

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 3:03 pm EST

Yeah, Adam rocks!!!!
The cover is super :) I love so maybe i am weird like “Adam” !

But what i am really excited is that Muse and Justin has write a song to Adam, so i just can`t wait to hear it !!!!! GO ADAM :)

JRM | 10/28/2009, 3:10 pm EST

No. No. No. No. No. This is just embarrassing. It really, really is. Why, Adam? Why? And here I was thinking I was going to buy your album at a store. I’m not picking that up, lol.

Lilandra | 10/28/2009, 3:11 pm EST

LOVE THIS. it is pure art. Love the male/female look, spikes, stars, omg his eyes. Adam looks fantastic, album cover is beyond my dreams. I am 36 years old and I love it, not all “aunties” are against it.

Janika | 10/28/2009, 3:14 pm EST

Stunning cover. Love it.

BarTGila | 10/28/2009, 3:18 pm EST

finally something NOT middle of the road. I loved the 70’s glam rock and I am loving this man. I may be old but I get the album cover…..Love it…

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 3:26 pm EST

to JRM…
You sound like you are shallow like most of these peoples :)
It is really sad that one cover change your mind:)
Ok so what, more Adam to me and the people who likes him !!!!!!!

TL | 10/28/2009, 3:40 pm EST

Very excited about the collaborations on this album and the songs co-penned by Lambert. I’m looking forward to hearing the music from this talented music.

AT | 10/28/2009, 3:57 pm EST

three words

DUDE IS LAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Write your own songs and maybe you will get some credit.

Vickie | 10/28/2009, 4:01 pm EST

The person that came up with the idea for Adam’s album cover needs to be fired!!!

TO JRM | 10/28/2009, 4:22 pm EST

Really? you liked him before but NOW you will too afraid to pick it up! Oooo don’t touch that! It might burn your hand Or turn you gay!

Please.. people like you sound really stupid. It’s NOT that SERIOUS! It’s just an album cover, for heavens sake!

Jan | 10/28/2009, 4:32 pm EST

Micheal Jackson never wrote or co-wrote most of his songs, and everone is now saying that he was so great. Adam has co-written a lot of songs. I don’t know why he is being attacked here.

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 4:45 pm EST

redraiderdc- Crue and Poison ushered in one of the most superficial and dark times in rock history. Those guys sucked, too. Glam is back? Glam never really left. There has always been bands and artists around aping bowie and bolan. They are just usually not very good. This guy is no exception, and again, he is most certainly not rock ‘n’ roll. American Idol is not and can never be rock’n'roll. And please don’t throw Daughtry in my face. That guy is playing dinosaur rock that went out of style with Creed.

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 4:48 pm EST

Actually, Jan, Michael Jackson DID write a good amount of his own material.

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 4:50 pm EST

Just listened to his new single…everything about that song is terrible. Obviously the guy has chops, but he over-emotes like crazy.

Tim | 10/28/2009, 5:18 pm EST

Meh. I get what he is doing with the cover, but it wasn’t well executed. It looks cheaply slapped together and he looks like an idiot. I thought he was taking glam into the future, not back to 1978? Hey Adam, there is still time to re-think this…

Jimmy | 10/28/2009, 5:21 pm EST

That looks like a photo in one of those cheesy 80’s hairstyle sample books in my mom’s beauty salon. Not glam.

Torlato-Favrini | 10/28/2009, 5:26 pm EST

Dude doesn’t get it, does he? The androgyny is NOT the problem, it’s the fact the cover is TACKY and CHEESY and PHOTOSHOPPED beyond belief. It doesn’t even look like him, it looks like a wax mannequin posing against a background made of cheap wallpaper. David Bowie’s Aladdin Sane album cover, for example, was androgynous (as damn near all his album covers are), but it wasn’t tacky or cheesy or over the top. You don’t look at it and double over with laughter. It looks ARTISTIC AND REAL. That’s what Adam’s album cover is missing, it’s neither artistic OR real. It looks completely fake and unoriginal, like other people have pointed out, it looks like something a 12-year-old girl could’ve created on her computer with basic photo editing software. Hell, it looks like something that was created using MS Paint. Obviously the poor guy doesn’t have people giving him the reality of things, they’re probably yes men who sugarcoat the truth to him.

And Jan, Michael Jackson wrote the MAJORITY of his songs, in addition to writing for other artists as well. Do some research and your facts straight before you start talking crap.

Torlato-Favrini | 10/28/2009, 5:27 pm EST

I’m sorry, I meant GET your facts straight.

B. | 10/28/2009, 6:17 pm EST

OMG!! Some people are insanely stupid. I won’t mention any names, you should know who you are.
First,it’s an album cover based on Adam’s vision. He doesn’t have to seek your approval.
Second,Adam has mentioned on may occassions,on many interviews that he has co-written a few of the songs on the album.
Third, even if he cared about the negative reaction to the cover,do you really think he’s going to change it. He has run head-on with people’s silly comments the moment he stepped foot on Idol, and I don’t think he’s banking on the homophobic,ooh-I-can’t-think-o ut-of-box individuals buying his album anyway.
Last, why go out of your way to put down someone who has shown nothing but respect for artists,fans,..life.

Maybe you could learn a thing or two from this incredible man. I would suggest tolerance a great place to begin!!

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 6:35 pm EST

I can’t even believe that there is so much ado about an album cover! Just because he is a new recording artist? I don’t believe I have ever heard so much nitpicking about an album cover in all my life. This guy has something more than singing/entertainment qualities because whether you love him, hate him, or sitting on the fence, EVERYBODY is watching and talking about him!!

Lo | 10/28/2009, 6:49 pm EST

I agree with you Anonymous. Further, maybe some of the nitpickers are envious of Adam’s ‘dare to be different’ approach to life, that they can’t face the fact that their own lives are less than exciting!! Hmmm, will it be the white socks or black socks today? Get my drift?!

NO | 10/28/2009, 7:27 pm EST

So Adam thinks he is bringing glam back? sorry Adam, but BILL KAULITZ started that years ago, & I’m not the only one who thinks this too. Now slapping a bunch of make-up on you doesn’t make a man androgynous. It’s something you are born with & with no make-up needed. Adam can sing….but in my book he’s a cheep knock of Bill.

lyrafowlpotter | 10/28/2009, 7:50 pm EST

Funny Steve, not all people have ever wrote their own music. In fact most it wasn’t even considered cool to sing AND write until about the mid-tolate 1950’s and 1960’s. Sure there were some who did, but most pop music was sung by vocal groups who had the songs write for them.

The hey day of singers/songwriters was of course in the 1950’s, but I don’t see anything wrong with a singer not writing their own music. Opera singers don’t nor do classical singer, I do however feel if you are not going to write your own music, it better be damn good!!! That’s all that really matters, but I freely admit that most of the music I like it by singer/songwriters. :)

AND for the record, his album cover isn’t even THAT campy, I don’t see what the big deal is, Lady Gaga is campier than that on a regular basis, I guess sits because he’s a guy. I assume he’s trying to emulate Bowie?

MiMi | 10/28/2009, 8:18 pm EST

I can’t believe people can be so mean. Adam said in his audition for American Idol that he would surprise us—and he always does. Who cares that much about the cover. It’s the music we want to hear and we DO know he can sing anything. Lighten up Adam bashers and come along for the ride. STAR said it perfectly, “what a refresing artist in this dreary world.”

lyrafowlpotter | 10/28/2009, 8:19 pm EST

I meant the 1960’s… lol Anyway, I don’t have high-hopes for Adam, but I like him. He like Gaga thinks he is something new or some renassiance, when they are merely a copy-cat of better artists, but. :)

God Bless ~Amy

Greg | 10/28/2009, 8:23 pm EST

Hey, maybe Adam is trying to be Rufus Wainwright lite, less calories and less talent than the original!

Mari | 10/28/2009, 8:36 pm EST

Adam surprises me everyday!! And I love it!!

Wow | 10/28/2009, 8:45 pm EST

No and Greg,

Adam has been wearing make-up for years and has never compared himself to other artists..in fact he reveres and he respects them that much. Come back when you have something intelligent to impart!!

As far as talent,Adam is INSANELY talented and you know it!!!!!!

kris | 10/28/2009, 9:10 pm EST

He has talent to spare for sure. Love the cover I am a guy and I will love to kiss (him) the cover as soon as I get it. Hey his voice alone makes me wanna buy this album.
Yep guys, thank God for the internet cause I would of never say this words out loud otherwise.

Linda | 10/28/2009, 9:22 pm EST

Adam was on tour the during the time he was trying to make this album. I don’t see how he could have time to write a lot of songs for it. How many songs did Elvis ever write? He was supposed to be the KING of Rock and Roll. MJ did
write quite a few of his songs, but he sure didn’t write them all.
For all of you that like to bash Adam; have we ever heard any of your songs? Where is your CD?

Eva | 10/28/2009, 9:27 pm EST

I’ll never get the appeal for this guy but I will say he (or his publicity agent( knows how to get attention.

Bigadamfan | 10/28/2009, 9:55 pm EST

I still don’t get it. Not a huge adam fan anymore. That means I will have to wait to listen to his music on radios first to see if it’s really really good as opposed to buying it instantly just like I did with all of his AI studio recordings. Think I will just download select songs from Itunes instead of buying the album from stores. I totally get what he was trying to project and I’m not against the gay and make up thing, but this is just way too much. Shocking in a bad way. Controversy accomplished? yes, but will it translate to great sales? let’s just hope..

Lynn | 10/28/2009, 10:53 pm EST

Eva, I found him very appealing until this cover surfaced. It’s way too feminine for me! My children and circle of friends couldn’t wait to get my reaction to it, since I was the last of the loyal Adam fans amongst them. Adam is an amazing singer, but his risks may prove to be costly.

Anonymous | 10/28/2009, 11:47 pm EST

love the cover! hunky dory meets thriller! is adam my favorite singer? not yet but you never know what he may come up with – at least he’s got technique to burn and good influences! and we’re all talking about him and kind of interested in rock again cuz the kid’s got style which is more than i can say for half the stuff that’s been cranked out over the last couple of decades!!!! enjoy adam lovers! haters! hate on!!!!! adam! love you brother! you’ve brought a breath of fresh air to the face that is rock music- can’t wait to hear your sound. i used to write & sing for a band called free coke for supermodels!!! i’ve got a couple of songs that would be perfect for you as essentially we were a glam rock disco sort of band which for some strange reason always had an androgenous edge! call me anytime at 250 653-9172!! (canada eh?)yours truly, softie hotpants

Chari | 10/29/2009, 1:26 am EST

Thank god, he finally reveals himself for the cheesy wannabe popstar he is. Rolling Stone, I don’t know what sort of blackmail pics Lambert’s people have on you but considering this turn of events you might want to consider laying off your excessive and unfounded hype of this guy while you still have some credibility left.

Cottage Cheese | 10/29/2009, 3:38 am EST

“Looser” ? That would describe your she-wolf after all these years of over-use toots……

Kelly | 10/29/2009, 6:38 am EST

I totally love the idea of the whole, ode to glam rock. But I love David Bowie, no that’s an understatement – I’d fall to the ground and kiss his feet– so if Glambert takes this whole “space” thing in glam rock, I’m gonna be pissed because Bowie’s been there, done that, and no one else can go back and do that. Bowie did it best, and mostly because it was original. Long live glam rock and plastic soul! ‘…put you space face close to mine love, freak out in a moonage day dream, oh yeah!’

Cyrinda | 10/29/2009, 6:40 am EST

Androgyny is wonderful. Mick did it, Bowie did it, the New York Dolls did, Steven Tyler, G N’R, and so forth. All I can say is, I’m great to see it back. It’s a lovely thing.

Anonymous | 10/29/2009, 8:03 am EST

I got your concept, Adam, it’s a clever idea and it’s fun. But it’s poorly executed. It could have been a knockout cover. Unfortunately, your cover isn’t campy nor fun. It just looks like a bad cheesy throw back of 80’s. My feeling for your talent hasn’t changed and I’m still looking forward to your music. I just wished your cover would have been as cool as your voice and hopefully your music..

longtimeRSreader | 10/29/2009, 8:20 am EST

Sheesh here we go again does RS have a hard on for this guy? How much TIGER BEAT coverage can they give this guy before he even has and album out. Talented performer maybe but he guy is not doing anything original. Androgyny is one thing…David Bowie did that…this is not androngyny this is full blown drag and even that is not original..Sylvester did it in the 70’s and 80’s with his gender bending vocals and when Sylvester hit those high notes they were as smooth as silk…yes Adam can hit those notes maybe even higher and with more power but sorry the sound he makes is just not very pleasant to listen to. Now don’t get me wrong I enjoy his act,it’s campy fun, nothing more than various over-emoting faux broadway versions of rock,soul,disco..ect. But for RS to give him so much coverage is ridiculous it coverage sounds like its written by glambert. Want to see true adrogyny melded with talent, artistry, killer dance moves, emotional honesty and a mesmerizing on and off stage presence go see MJ in THIS IS IT. The only thing Lambert can come close to MJ is in his obsession to do anything to be the center of attention…an obession that RS seem only all to happy to indulge.

b | 10/29/2009, 8:54 am EST

umm… everyone remembers that he didn’t even win right? he’s trying to be this generation’s bowie/prince/etc. glam was meant to shock in the 80’s, now it seems to be some sort of sexual revolution thing… didn’t this already happen in the 1970s?!

you | 10/29/2009, 9:06 am EST

It’s funny that a good portion of the posts defending the cover sound like they were written by the 12-yr old girls who find this guy attractive. They sound immature, can’t spell, and decorate their posts with smileys, haha. Oh, and btw, if women find this guy or any other guy who essentially dresses in drag attractive, then maybe you should just go for women, because I’m sorry, but thats what this guy seems to be going for in every picture I see of him. I think “glam” is just an excuse for this guy to keep playing dress-up and wear more pounds of make-up. Talented or not, when a musician focuses more on image than the music, they are not remembered as musicians. Look at Prince and David Bowie, they have a few hit songs, but the majority of the world only know them for their act. That’s all Lambert will be… an act. Only he won’t have the staying power of Bowie or Prince.

To You, | 10/29/2009, 9:22 am EST

You said: ‘Look at Prince and David Bowie, they have a few hit songs, but the majority of the world only know them for their act.’

You had me until right there.

Prince and Bowie are actually remembered just as much for their MUSIC as they are for their image. Probably even more so.

As for Lambert, people only think he’s so great, because, let’s face it, the competition in the year 2009 is so watered down and lame. He looks fresh and unique, by comparison to the rest of the horrendous crap that gets put out today.

But Lambert would have been considered a total joke if this was 1972, or thereabouts.

catspj's | 10/29/2009, 10:05 am EST

After looking and laughing at RS’s fantasy covers it looks like Adam’s CD cover will encourage people to make fun of him. I guess he will be laughing with them.

He has made so many great decisions so far and yet this photo may not one of them.

For everyone who says that it’s like Bowie, etc., has to remember that ok, but it’s been done already period. Why repeat or copy it?

Adam is so talented. He is also very attractive. He really did not need to get anyone’s attention because he has the public’s attention already. I know people who are not his fans but are looking forward to hearing the CD.

That CD cover is way below him in terms of matching his talent. He did not need to look back–because he should be looking forward and creating something more evolved.

Put those fantasy shots inside the CD and put an authentic photo of himself on the cover which shows him as the strong seriously talented entertainer that he is, not a lame glamor shot. He is not Lady Ga-Ga he is so much better than a one trick pony.

Ann Gree | 10/29/2009, 10:06 am EST

@You,(and people like You)

Aside from the fact that YOUR post has some grammatical error (if you’re going to dish it out….),I find your thinking more disturbing. David Bowie and Prince..a few hit songs?? LOL!
Also,do Beyonce or Madonna consult the public before they decide to go pantless/skirtless/bottomless for a music video? And make-up? They wear pounds, too!!It’s part of their ‘look’,costuming, theatrics… The negative responses spewing from some people are just plain childish and rubbish at best! They’ve crossed the line of personal opinions into blatant venomous attacks. Since when does an artist have to get the public’s OK on every decision they make? I know of no other and I have a theory. No other artist has been as polarizing and exciting as Adam Lambert (In the past few years anyway). He dares to be different, wants to push buttons, but most of all, wants us to think about music in a different way. YOU,and others like yourself, are spending too much energy hating. Why don’t you wait to hear his album before you close YOUR door on his career?! He’ll be successful enough without you. Don’t worry!

notthatthereisanythingwrongwt | 10/29/2009, 10:12 am EST

Really don’t know what to make of this cover or what he is trying to accomplish with it. Maybe he is being true to himself or vision or whatever but seems he is going out of his way to alienate potential buyers. Don’t know too many staight guys who would pick up this album..hell I’m gay and I find that his whole drag queen so gay cliched and off putting not too mention setting back the gay image back to freak show level. The media always seems to eat this up..go to any gay rally and all they show you are drag queens and leather boys who make up at most 2% of the gay population. Maybe this explains RollingStones obsession with this guy. Personally I find the stuff coming out from the AI winner Kris Allen much more intersting musically but I guess he’ll have to dye his hair and slap on some makeup before RS finds him worthy enough for a bit of coverage…so sad coming from the once great RollingStone.

As a gay man don’t find Adam remotely sexy …I am attracted to men…not a man who wants to look like a woman. His fans seem to be women who like thier objects of affection to be sexless …teenage girls or middle-aged women or male and female outsiders who feel a kindship with him. It will be interesting to see how his music sells but I am sure there will be enough glamberts on here to tell me he will be huge…even tho they have not heard his new music.

daniel | 10/29/2009, 10:58 am EST

Guys, glam wasn’t simply about the gay-following, the music was straight up awesome rock’n'roll. Bowie, Roxy Music, Eno, T.Rex…these bands were rock that you could have a great time to. This new ‘glam’ seems to simply be capitalizing on the fashion of it all.

Crokonol-Bored | 10/29/2009, 12:18 pm EST

This cover is not punk, glam, rock or anything remotely worthy of those heady genres. What this is, reminds me of some cheap plastic component, manufactured overseas, with the intent of passing itself off as genuine article. But thanks for trying, RS and fellow lackeys.

John | 10/29/2009, 12:36 pm EST

blah. that’s it. This is what passes for “rock and roll” these days? I’m definitely getting old.

Mia | 10/29/2009, 3:43 pm EST

He looks like he has a migraine. He’s edgy perhaps to those who don’t get out much. If you want to see edgy go see some good live bands. Throw money at them. This guy has done nothing to deserve any shout outs from the record industry.

Bebe | 10/29/2009, 4:07 pm EST

Wow, this guy is the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen, no joke. I’m so sick of this “Glambert” thing, and it’s just so dumb. David Bowie sucked, and now we have this nasty asshole ready to dig up Bowie’s mistakes. Screw glam rock! Take the Jonas Brothers, they’re for real, and got what it takes. You don’t see them dressing up as women.

Joanie | 10/29/2009, 5:09 pm EST

Oh my God, are you fucking crazy!?? The Jonas Brothers, really? You sound so stupid

Pam | 10/29/2009, 5:46 pm EST

Adam is the most imaginative, refreshing new artist to come around for a long time. Love the cover, love his music, love who he is! If you don’t like him, buy someone else’s album and stop the bashing!

Whoa.... | 10/29/2009, 6:09 pm EST

Bebe…you said that Adam Lambert and DAVID BOWIE suck, but you think the Jonas Brothers are TALENTED?!?!?! What are you, 7? Go get your ears cleaned out and recognize where the REAL talent is. Out of all the posts here, yours is by far the most moronic.

Lo | 10/29/2009, 7:07 pm EST

Bebe,

The Jonas Bros. may not dress up,but they’re boring and common!!

I’m curious though..let’s see your picture. if you’re as ugly as your personality, then EEEWWW!

@Bebe | 10/29/2009, 7:11 pm EST

you are joking right?! BTW what happened to the Jonas sisters? Oh that’s right no one cares!!!!!!!!!!

Ari | 10/29/2009, 7:48 pm EST

Bah. Androgyny my ass. He’s gay, everyone knows that. As for the lame Bowie ripoff. I’d want to do something original if it was my debut album, not copy someone else’s style. He’s just a knockoff Bowie and will be forgotten in a coupla years.

kathryn | 10/29/2009, 9:21 pm EST

The reason there has been so much attention is because it is just such a disappointment. Those of us who are/were HUGE fans and have been impatiently waiting for his big debut, something to validate our “obsession” for him, look like idiots. I’m even more freaked out with his taste in guys. He goes for the extreme bimbo type – I think I can’t embrace this about Adam. The CD cover is truly awful. I’ve been upset for days b/c I just had such a different vision. And, I too HATE all reference to GLAM. So sick of that word. I fear he is going to turn into the male version of Lady GaGa – she’s probably talented but so many people are turned off by her that it doesn’t matter in the long run. Please Adam, embrace that look you had on the phenomenal RS June cover. Now, that would sell millions of CDs!

Anonymous | 10/29/2009, 9:40 pm EST

Wow, I’m shocked at your snotty ass comment to your fans with different perspective. Whether we get it or not, this isn’t campy and it’s a homage to a bad taste. A part of 80’s trash that should have stayed gone.

Ataraxia | 10/30/2009, 12:34 am EST

I like how no-one had ever even heard of the song ‘Soaked’ until two days ago.

NOPE! | 10/30/2009, 12:48 am EST

I’m trying real hard too like this guy, cause he can sing….but he puts me off, with this look at me crap! I’m sure if he lost the hole glam thing, he would have the most respect even from the haters. Only some people can pull of that androgyny look, like Bill Kaulitz, Daniel Johns, Jard leto, only because of their naturally soft feathers. Adam just can’t pull that off. The make-up just looks silly on him.

Weegie | 10/30/2009, 3:15 am EST

Fat, screeching, pock marked, worst kind of gay stereotype, no sense at all of rock and roll, music f*%#*$ theatre singing, no talent goofasauris……..

Jerry | 10/30/2009, 3:45 am EST

Only 20% of responders to the RS poll say they don’t like the CD cover. The rest either like it or don’t care.

Adam’s debut CD is now #1 in Music pre-orders on Amazon, which is pretty remarkable considering no one has yet heard a note. It’s also #1 in Rock and #1 in Pop. He’ll do just fine. He’s the most talented vocalist and most exciting performer to come along in many years.

Jerry again | 10/30/2009, 3:55 am EST

Sorry, that’s actually #1 in MUSIC SALES, not just pre-orders. Sales have actually gone UP since the CD cover came out.

Lola | 10/30/2009, 8:31 am EST

Horrible cover while the guy is such a looker. But what can beat that hot Rolling Stone cover? That was really awesome! I love his voice, he’s a great singer and he doesn’t need to become another look obsessed perfomer since he has so much talent!

Joshua | 10/30/2009, 9:32 am EST

Where are Kurt Cobain and Liam Gallagher when you need them most.

''Deliberately'' is the word | 10/30/2009, 12:06 pm EST

Couple of weeks from now, on the pages of RollingStone(.com):

”Adam Lambert Defends Album as ”Deliberately Crappy” (quote) ”It IS ridiculous. For those that don’t get it: oh well… There’s not much to get in the first place… Androgyny. Rock N Roll”

Joshua | 10/30/2009, 9:32 am EST

Where are Kurt Cobain and Liam Gallagher when you need them most?

On my iTunes. Where Adam Lamebert won’t be. Ever.

Weegie | 10/30/2009, 12:40 pm EST

If Jerry put his last name on his post he’d never be able to leave his house again without males everywhere pointing and laughing at him !
Jerry, Jerry, Jerry………popularity and record sales have nothing to do with quality…usually the more popular the artist the worse they are, it’s pop culture math. Celine Dion has sold 83 gazillion albums..
…Barry Manilow…Mariah Carey..NKOTB…..Milli Vanilli..Taco….The music world is littered with godawful acts who were wildly popular. All it signifies is the public’s mindbending bad taste. His album like the 2012 song and this CD cover will be truly horrific, and it will sell 10 million copies…until America moves onto it’s next terrible act.

MKS | 10/30/2009, 1:26 pm EST

Wow, sure are alot of arrogant haters commenting here, so certain that THEIR taste in music is far, far superior to anyone else’s. If they can’t convince us that Adam’s music won’t sell, they try to convince us that IF it sells, it’s just the public’s “bad taste”. I wonder when “weegie” will be putting out a CD of great music ? You guys are pathetic.

MTR | 10/30/2009, 4:28 pm EST

On word:

UGH.

Hawkeye | 10/30/2009, 6:09 pm EST

Ridiculous. An artist such as Adam Lambert can do much better than this. Can’t believe that this is all he could come up with??? I am very disappointed at best!

sassy | 10/30/2009, 7:40 pm EST

This is just one of many faces of Adam Lambert as an entertainer. I’m sure Adam and his “people” were prepared for some of the negative comments with this cover because Adam is that kind of entertainer..he’s not mainstream, he’s many flavours..and this happens to be Adam’s flavour for this particular album cover. The next album cover could be totally different. I love the many looks of Adam, the Elvis look, the James Dean look, the sexy glittery hint of drag look, even the full drag look, yes Adam is like a “box of chocolates”..you just never know what you’re going to get..and I like that mysterious, daring side of him. I can’t remember when I was last this excited about the release of an entertainer’s album. Go get ‘em Adam. I’m with you all the way!!

JRZGRL1 | 10/31/2009, 2:58 am EST

I am repeatedly amazed at the obsession that some people have with the idea that you can’t be a successful artist unless you write your own songs. Did Elvis write his own songs? Did Frank Sinatra write his own songs? Do opera singers write their own songs? And Adam does write some of his own songs. If you don’t like him, own that fact that you don’t like it but quit blaming it on the fact (which isn’t really fact – it’s fiction) that he doesn’t write his own songs. It’s a lame excuse for not like him. And I say – your loss. There are plenty of lesser talents out there that you can wallow in.

JRZGRL1 | 10/31/2009, 3:07 am EST

I apologize for the grammatical error above – I meant to say “it’s a lame excuse for not liking him”. And for the record – I am not crazy about the CD cover. But I respect Adam’s decision to use it. I am absolutely in love with the single cover & wish that Adam would consider using it as the CD cover. Maybe the CD can be marketed with two different covers. Tori Amos did it with “American Dolls” although in that case it dovetailed with the theme. And now that the first single is out I am astounded by Adam’s talent and edginess – and I’m sure 50% of the people who have posted on this page will disagree with my assessment but I don’t care – not everyone has to like something – but I think it would be reasonable to expect you to respect my taste. Adam is going to entertain us for decades to come. And finally, I need to say this: the Internet allows some people to be incredibly mean and petty. It’s cowardly. And sad.

Cecilia | 11/3/2009, 1:38 pm EST

I think it will be good for sales, if he came out a new cover for those who hate it. He should have a campy one and okay one when HE’S BEING SERIOUS!

Seriously, you buy album covers to look at the guy, that’s what album covers are for…not to crack a joke and expect people to sense him doing a wink wink behind that ridiculous cover. I mean if you want to look androgynous, don’t look like a girl!
