Video Roundup: Norah Jones, Creed and Chickenfoot

10/27/09, 2:09 pm EST

For your viewing pleasure on this This Is It Tuesday, we’re checking out a trio of new videos from across the musical spectrum. First up, Norah Jones’ video for the first single off her November 17th album The Fall, “Chasing Pirates,” which premiered today on VH1’s Website. True to the title, Jones finds a treasure map in a bottle at the beginning of the video, launching her into a dream that turns her Manhattan apartment building into a fully navigational pirate ship. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Jones’ The Fall will also feature contributions from Ryan Adams and Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff.

VH1 is also premiering Creed’s new video for “Rain,” off the band’s reunion album Full Circle. We can’t help but note that some of the song’s lyrics borrow heavily from Pearl Jam’s Ten-era B side “Wash.” “I feel like its going to rain like this for days, so let it rain down and wash everything away,” Scott Stapp sings in the chorus, echoing Eddie Vedder’s cry, “Oh please, let it rain today, this city’s so filthy like my mind in ways… Wash my love.” (OK, they’re both quoting Taxi Driver). And call us crazy, but the video seems to borrow the same dark blue color scheme from Madonna’s own video for “Rain.”

Finally, there’s “Sexy Little Thing,” the latest video off the self-titled debut album by Chickenfoot, or “Pata de Pollo” as Sammy Hagar’s shirt proudly displays. Those ex-Van Haleners in Chickenfoot know exactly what their audience wants, so in addition to the live performance footage, “Sexy Little Thing” is packed with images of motorcycles, leather, tattoos and of course, women.

Creed really disappointed me with this song. It sounds like a Collective Soul/Gin Blossoms fusion, which is just not them

Creed vid was a yawn. Chickenfoot vid had a cool vintage vibe.

WOW-those Pearl Jam lyrics were so original and captured a sentiment that no one would ever feel/ want to put to music before or after them. WOW. That Eddie Vedder. What a rock god. Good ear.

Nora Jones, as usual is a snore, but at least Chickenfoot remembers how to rock — old skool style. Cute girls and cars, who needs anything more?

Chickenfoot has got something , they need to tour and go back in and do another, just like “In n Out Burger” a double double with extra sauce, can’t stop that can you?

Chickenfoot has a cool sound, and it has a rock n roll feel to it. Its good to see someone out there still jamming and having a great time together.

Norah Jones has the kind of talent that will give her (if she wants) a thirty or forty year career in the music industry. Long after most of the current artists have been forgotten, Norah Jones will still be making music.
