Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band canceled their scheduled performance last night in Kansas City, Missouri, after the band’s assistant road manager Lenny Sullivan was found dead in his hotel room. Sullivan, who was also Springsteen’s cousin, was only 36. “Due to a death in Bruce’s immediate family, tonight’s show at Sprint Center has been unavoidably canceled. All tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. Bruce and The Band deeply appreciate the understanding of our Kansas City audience and look forward to returning at the earliest opportunity,” reads a statement on Springsteen’s official Website. Rolling Stone confirmed the death with a Springsteen spokesperson last night.

Sullivan had served as the band’s assistant road manager for the past 10 years. “A warm and sensitive person, he was beloved by Bruce, the Band, the crew, and the entire Thrill Hill family,” the Springsteen Website posted yesterday. According to KMBC-TV Kansas City, a Springsteen rep said Sullivan was found dead in his room at the InterContinental Hotel at the Plaza. The cause of death has not yet been released, but police investigating Sullivan’s death say it is not suspicious.

Springsteen and the E Street Band are next scheduled to appear at the first of two Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 25th Anniversary concerts at New York’s Madison Square Garden, on October 29th. After that, the band have 10 more shows currently scheduled on their tour, which concludes November 22nd at Buffalo, New York’s HSBC Arena. Like Springsteen’s final show at Jersey’s Giants Stadium, last night’s concert in Kansas City was to feature the band performing Born in the U.S.A. in its entirety.

Lenny RIP | 10/27/2009, 3:16 pm EST

I am friends with band member and met Lenny a few times. Very nice guy and close with all the band. He was actually only 34 years old, not 36. RIP.

Give It A Rest | 10/28/2009, 11:29 am EST

Could have been congenital heart failure due to a birth defect. Or asthma. Or seizures. Any number of things. You conspiracy theory people need to chill. Sympathies to Bruce & the family for their loss.

Anne | 10/28/2009, 1:12 pm EST

Well Bruce does a good job at chilling people.

Anne | 10/28/2009, 1:22 pm EST

There’s no conspiracy, there’s only the truth. If you think everything is fine with this creep, remember he has the money to hide behind every form of media and news that glorfy this jackass, when in truth he is afraid of everything smart and those who aren’t fooled by him. He can smile at you and donate lunch money to the schizophrenics on the boardwalk but he is a satanic freak.

Anne | 10/28/2009, 1:31 pm EST

There’s no conspiracy, there’ only the truth. Bruce springsteen is not a lucky man anymore.

Anne | 10/28/2009, 1:38 pm EST

I’m sure Rolling Stone will write the usual Bruce folklore with his loving wife, kids, and fans as they sit back at their desks joke all day about their trash. It doesn’t mean anything at all to work. I mean Bruce is Bruce who the hell cares about honesty, integrity, dignity, and God.

Larry Luper Independence, MO | 10/29/2009, 12:45 am EST

Bruce, Patti, Lenny’s friends, colleagues and friends deserve their privacy. Bruce is a rarity….we know in Kansas City he will do what is committed to, make it up to us.
They are human, I lost a close cousin a year back, who was like a Brother, bereavement takes some time. And some committments could not be made up. This concert at KC will.
My Prayers are with everyone I mentioned.

Larry Luper | 10/29/2009, 12:49 am EST

Anne, for one I care about honesty, integrity, dignity and GOD. Good luck finding some of those things. Even if it were determined bad things were involved, is that the other artists and crew are at fault? And his personal, folklore or not, is not to be judged by us, unless it is in a courtroom. Wake UP!

Bruce BIGGEST Fan | 10/29/2009, 7:38 pm EST

I was waiting at the line, i flew specially from Argentina (south america) just for this specific concert, because i wanted to listen to the Born in the USA concert. Now i’m back in my country, and still cant believe what just happened to me. I spent a lot of money and time and almost lost my job & wife because of this. I need to see Bruce!! Anybody can tell me something to cheer me up? pls!!

Fabri | 10/30/2009, 5:47 am EST

Whoever made fun of this death in KC, may you NEVER have the RIGHT to see Bruce. Just cuz Bruce is awesome as well as his people, does NOT make him eligible for you to demonize him for a death in his FAMILY – not even the band. You freaking idiots that accused any other, may you rot in hell, or rot on earth. Good for you and enjoy your comments forever. You deserve no more. Bruce – may your life never be put in judgement with the loss of life around you. In my personal eyes, you are an awesome person. God bless you.
