Hours after broadcasting their 360° Tour stop at California’s Rose Bowl to the entire world via a YouTube live stream, U2 announced plans to bring “The Biggest Rock Show Ever” back to North America in 2010. Last night’s Rose Bowl gig was the band’s final concert in the states on this leg of the 360° Tour, but YouTube has promised to rebroadcast the full show and the band has confirmed they’ll return with their innovative stage dubbed “the Spaceship” in June.

Twelve concerts have been announced for the band’s next North American trek, including a performance at Chicago’s Soldier Field — where the band launched its U.S. leg earlier this year — and a July 19th stop at New York’s New Meadowlands Stadium.

Look back at three decades of U2, onstage and off.

U2.com subscribers will get first crack at tickets starting tomorrow, October 27th, when the presale begins for the Oakland, Toronto and Edmonton shows.

FINALLY, U2 has a date set in Seattle. Now, how can I afford to buy them?

achtung_man | 10/26/2009, 12:40 pm EST

U2 lost their way a long time ago. The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby were both classic albums, along with all their 80’s and 90’s album

Bono has lost his mind. Who the hell would move their base of operations out of their homeland because of tax reasons? It’s not like they don’t have enough money. And plus, those tax dollars would go into the Irish Economy, which definitely needs the money right now.

U2 was my favorite band up until recently. But now, I also have a stance of “fuck you” to the band

Come back to Texas!!

El Paso, Austin or San Antonio.

All three cities have stadiums for this tour.

Dominique | 10/26/2009, 1:12 pm EST

achtung man: Seeing how honestly governments handle other people’s money, I think it is only smart to move it to a place where you can actually control it. And by the way, U2 lost their way after U23. Everything else is not good. jajaja.

Struggling to get excited about a Bay Area visit. I’ve been underwhelmed by this current tour. Watched last night’s YouTube concert and felt that something was missing.

Jay | 10/26/2009, 1:42 pm EST

Dear U2, once again you have done it. These dates are for next summer. This is the fall. Put the tickets on sale now, collect the interest off of hardworking Americans who pay exorbitant amounts of money to sit at the top row of a football stadium all so they can say they were there. I love(d) this band musically, but this tour is ridiculous. What happened to multiple nights in cities in basketball arenas as you have done for Elevation and Vertigo tours? Greed? I will just wait for the DVD and buy it for 15 bucks or some super overprice extra edition like you have been doing with your back catalog of late.

jennifer from toronto | 10/26/2009, 2:29 pm EST

Hi i am a huge u2 fan have been for many years.. saw the 360 tour in toronto had floors was great…Got reallly excited to see u2 on you tube last night countdown space oddisey…I was thrilled to see so many people at the rose bowl omg look at them wow..
I liked the opening number.. expected that… But bono looked a little tired fit but tired he seemed to run out of steam a little bit wtf?? I know its been a long tour but when your playing in front of 85000 people and its live on you tube millions are watching allover the world… better be great… but something was missing im not sure what i wished bono interacted with the crowd more pulled someone on stage so cool..
Why didnt he??
I thought the last song of the evening was bland wasnt suitable for the last song i m not sure what they were thinking..
I love bono i love the dam band and was thrilled that i could watch this on you tube live.. how many bands could do this?? No one anymore last of the big rock concerts i think.
Anyway something seemed just off a little, They are playing in toronto in june i would like to go
could be the last time i see them live who knows they might retire.
But its so hard to get tickets for general admission i need to pray i guess.
Well thanks u2 for being on you tube you made my night u2 does not suck!! They have changed things around
love you bonoxoxoxo

Soren | 10/26/2009, 2:42 pm EST

the problem is, they keep playing the SAME OLDIES tour after tour after tour….

Once you’ve already seen U2 on more than one tour, it’s hard to get excited about Sunday Bloody Sunday, One, Beautiful Day, With Or Without You, etc for the millionth time.

And while its certainly not a bad album, but No Line is kinda eh, lackluster. So there’s no real excitement to hear those songs.

They’d be better off mining their back catalogue for lesser played nuggets.

Soren | 10/26/2009, 3:00 pm EST

Also, while the 360 visuals are impressive, it seems like the band members themselves are going through the motions a bit.

spacecase | 10/26/2009, 3:34 pm EST

Yeah! More dates!

I love how these guys try to avoid the midwest outside of Chicago. So I guess Hubby and I need to save up some money.

Jim K | 10/26/2009, 3:48 pm EST

Well, I saw the U2 concert at the Rose Bowl and they were awesome. The audience was awesome. The Black Eyed Peas were awesome. The entire event was awesome. U2 going through the motions? A thirty year old rock band delivers on every level and they are going through the motions? Ai yi yi.

Black Frank | 10/26/2009, 4:14 pm EST

Go see the show and you will see the greatest rock show ever. I saw them in D.C. last month and the show was unreal. People talk about how great the stage is (and it is), but to me the sound system is otherworldly. I’ve never heard music sound so clear and clean and loud at a stadium show.

Oh, and the people who are bitching about the price of tickets, quit whining. You can get a ticket for $30. That’s cheaper than what you’d pay for a lawn ticket at the Poison/Skid Row show. Hell, if you’re lucky, you can get floor tickets for $50. For. The. Biggest. Band. In. The. World.

Soren | 10/26/2009, 4:54 pm EST

I’ve been to many, many U2 concerts over the years.

I definitely know the difference between U2 in full on creative tour mode, and when they are just going through the motions.

The 360 tour is U2 going through the motions.

Don’t get me wrong. A mediocre U2 tour is still better than 95% of any other shows you can see nowadays. And most people can’t tell the difference.

But this tour is missing that truly special spark that other U2 tours had.

Anonymous | 10/26/2009, 5:18 pm EST

I keep hearing The Edge tell us how U2 is mixing up the set list for the fans. Huh??? It’s the same tired songs since this thing started in Barcelona. The band looks bored and so do the fans. Add some more variety (God knows U2 has the catalog) and both sides will enjoy the experience more.

Iowa Fan | 10/26/2009, 5:40 pm EST

Is Chicago the only city in the Midwest with a stadium? That will make what?…3 dates a Soldier Field for this tour? I guess a U2 show (outside of being incredibly expensive ticket-wise) is now a “destination event” which adds even more cost to it.

Seriously…nobody cares about the space-ship stage. Get back to doing arenas, because this stadium shit is alienating a good portion of the country.

Anonymous | 10/26/2009, 7:04 pm EST

Hey Iowa Fan, there’s a reason the Midwest is called “fly-over country.” Chicago is the only reason to stop on your way to the East or West coast.

JP | 10/26/2009, 8:43 pm EST

Anyone want to spare their presale code? I’m looking for tickets in Edmonton and want to get the good ones. Thanks!

YouTwo | 10/26/2009, 9:48 pm EST

U2 are one of the best bands ever end of story. I have seen 5 different tours starting with the Joshua Tree and they have all been great. Yes, I would prefer to see them in an arena but clearly they can play bigger venues and fill them up. I would like to see more variation in the songs they play because they have a wonderful catalog. Will that stop me from seeing them again NO. Just because they play it safe doesn’t mean they aren’t legends. As a fan I want more variety but their show is phenomenal and No Line is a great album. Don’t knock it because there aren’t any singles. Moment of Surrender is one of the best and please find me any other band who 30 years into their career is putting out songs of that caliber. There aren’t any.

Dave | 10/26/2009, 9:59 pm EST

Yay! , the dinosaurs or rock tour will continue forever and ever!.

U2-Fan | 10/27/2009, 1:51 am EST

I had the pleasure of being at the Rose Bowl show last night. This was the fifth time I have seen U2 (starting with Joshua Tree Tour), and I believe it was the best show thus far that I have seen. YouTube doesn’t do the show justice–you have to see the show in person!

somp. | 10/27/2009, 10:26 am EST

U2 is lame nowadays , always the sam songs on the tours blahh.

tony montana | 10/27/2009, 11:37 am EST

i don’t get how anybody’s making negative comments about u2 when they have released one of the their greatest albums.
it’s my personal favorite.
they got eno back into the mix and they’ve come up with adventurous, melodic, and memorable music.
they got their mojo back and this tour is gonna kick ass.
surely one of the best live bands ever.
now i agree that after achtung baby they haven’t put out an album that comes close but horizon is a first rate return to form and to me it is the album of the year.

Jungleland2 | 10/27/2009, 1:06 pm EST

Who the hell would move their base of operations out of their homeland because of tax reasons?

How about EVERY band in England?

When you pay 80%+ in taxes you get rich people leaving the country. Give the USA another 4 years and our wealthy will be doing the same.

Rich or not, working hard and then giving 80%+ of your money to the government has to suck

purplybob | 10/27/2009, 1:41 pm EST

U2 is the Beatles of our generation

screaming dingo | 10/27/2009, 1:50 pm EST

I agree with Black Frank (10/26/2009, 4:14 pm EST)above—the sound was unbelievable! I’ve been to concerts that left me feeling like my ears were bleeding. This was louder, clearer, cleaner and at no time uncomfortable. So loud and deep I felt it more with my entire body than just with my ears. The concrete stadium resonated with the bass at times, vibrating beneath my feet, but not once did I wish I’d brought ear plugs.

The Rose Bowl concert has ruined me for recorded music. Sunday night, music was a whole body experience. Ear buds, and even a nice stereo, no longer sound right.

Jack | 10/27/2009, 3:28 pm EST

There’s no one that does it better on the biggest stage than U2

jennifer toronto | 10/27/2009, 3:44 pm EST

Any 1 4 U2 | 10/27/2009, 4:03 pm EST

I myself perfer arena tours, stadiums are jus too damn big.Their latest cd is okay, the 1 before that waz awesome!! Yes i notice they dont really perform their old stuff, nuthin from their first 2 cds.
Maybe their next cd next year- 2010 well be a best seller lol U2 still ROCK thou!!!!!!!!

Robert | 10/27/2009, 4:33 pm EST

purplybob:

you say “U2 is the Beatles of our generation”

Are you fucking kidding me? I don’t know what “generation” you’re referring to, but U2 doesn’t have anything on The Beatles. And they never will.

los fuggers | 10/27/2009, 6:33 pm EST

come on people. i’m clearly the beatles of your generation.

happyass | 10/27/2009, 6:35 pm EST

thou art a flaming turd.

shana | 10/28/2009, 5:18 pm EST

why would anyone take bono seriously with his plight for starving people when he ignorantly spends hundreds of millions to put on a show? nevermind the carbon footprint. seriously check your ego.
boycott U2

MotTheWot | 10/28/2009, 5:44 pm EST

Well they can’t sell any albums anymore, that last one was in the bargain bin inside of 3 months! I guess touring is all they have left.
I see Bono has already had his picture taken with Obama, so that’ll make him happy. U2 are a band that should have finished a long, long, time ago.

Special K | 10/29/2009, 1:15 am EST

Shana…finally someone mentions what I haven’t been able to get out of my head since this tour started. This outrageous show requires over 120 trucks to haul it from venue to venue. The show itself probably uses as much electricity as a small city. For a band that is supposedly “conscious” on so many levels, how can they be so completely unconscious to the environmental cost of this show. Add to that the outrageous ticket prices. Did they miss the fact that for over a year now American’s have stated their two key issues are economy and ecology? But everyone seems to forget that when U2 comes to town. Ooooh, bow to the Bono god, empty your pockets and don’t breath the air.

Anonymous | 10/30/2009, 10:59 pm EST

Saw the concert in Vancouver, as my very first concert ever, and it was absolutely incredible. Any future concerts I go to will certainly have some pretty big boots to fill.

jennifer toronto | 11/3/2009, 12:00 pm EST
