Rachael Ray Campaigns For Hall & Oates’ Rock Hall Induction

Hall & Oates were not among the nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2010. In fact, the Philadelphia duo has never been nominated for the Rock Hall. Talk show host and celebrity chef Rachael Ray believes this is an injustice, and has started a petition to get Hall & Oates into the Hall. The pair appeared on an episode of her show that won’t air until November 6th, but Ray’s Hall & Oates petition — or the comments section of her blog — has attracted 465 votes.

Meet the real potential class of 2010 in classic photos.

Will the support of Ray be enough to get the “Maneater” dudes into the Rock Hall? Some would argue John Oates’ moustache alone is worthy of its own wing in the Cleveland museum dubbed the Rock Hall & Oates. Have your say in our own comments section, and check out a preview of Hall & Oates on the Rachael Ray Show here.

what is she, f**king stupid?

JR Wolfe | 10/23/2009, 1:54 pm EST

Should Hall & Oates be inducted into the RNRHOF ? Of course .But will they be ? Doubt it ,like Steppenwolf,Moody Blues,Paul Revere & The Raiders ,Joan Jett and so many more ,they will be overlooked in favor of rap acts that don’t rock. That said, kodos to Rachael Ray for trying.

Grain | 10/23/2009, 2:57 pm EST

Better question: What in the hell qualifies Rachel Ray to make Rock Hall suggestions?

Richard | 10/23/2009, 3:25 pm EST

Hall & Oates deserve to be inducted.

Certainly over acts like Steppenwolf, Moody Blues, Paul Revere or Joan Jett (?I).

But they certainly don’t need an idiot like Rachel Ray campaigning for them. She in now way, is an authority on rock n roll or music in general. Stick to cooking class.

I’ve also been surprised that the duo has been routinely snubbed, as they remain one of the most prolific and successful duos of all-time.

Mike | 10/23/2009, 3:30 pm EST

I don’t know that they rock either.

Richard | 10/23/2009, 3:36 pm EST

Why do people think thatthe HOF means “Rock” music in the literal sense?

Doesn’t anyone realize that the artists honored by the HOF are those that contributed to the “Rock N Roll Era”?

That means any significant genre (folk, rock, blues, country, punk, prog, disco, rap, hip hop, new wave, alternative) is eligible.

The Rock Era began (arguably) in 1955 and continues to this day and just because you don’t play a guitar doesn’t mean you have not been important or significant during this time.

The Rock Hall’s biggest problem, is they need to induct MORE artists per year than they do.

Because as time goes on, there’s just too many glaring oversights. The number of influential artists they allow in per year, is obviously not enough.

bobo | 10/23/2009, 4:56 pm EST

They rock as much as Blondie, Grand Master Flash, or Madonna, I guess, so they should be in.

They’ll get in when Alice Cooper gets in.

Black Hole Sun | 10/23/2009, 5:34 pm EST

Though she may be right, I fail to see how a TV chef/talk show host’s opinion will make any impression on the HOF people responsible for nominating & inducting people. I’m not dissing her, I’m just saying that opinions even within the music community fails to sway them, so imagine someone who has nothing to do with music. But I hope her efforts will be worth it. Anon makes a great point though, they really need to expand the amount of people they allow to be inducted. It’s just not fair that the people who SHOULD be inducted are constantly passed up year after year, and it’s when they drop dead that the HOF will finally realize how important they are. It’s stupid, really.

spencer | 10/23/2009, 6:01 pm EST

the only person affiliated with hall and oates who should be mentioned in the same sentence as the rock and roll hall of fame is g.e. smith.

Richard | 10/23/2009, 6:21 pm EST

Expanding the amount of inductees per year will eventually water down the honor.

tom in vegas | 10/23/2009, 8:20 pm EST

There is a long list of artists who deserve it before Hall & Oates, and to Richard above, Yes, The Moody Blues, Steppenwolf AND Paul Revera and the Raiders are high on that list, with Rush, Alice Cooper, Sammy Hagar, The E Street Band, Dire Straits, The Monkees, The New York Dolls, The Raspberries, Cheap Trick, Roxy Music, Duran Duran, Suzi Quatro, Thin Lizzy, Three Dog Night, TODD RUNDGREN, WARREN FUCKING ZEVON!!!!, The J Geils Band, Mott The Hoople, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Electric Light Orchestra, DEVO, The Cure, The Guess Who, Blue Oyster Cult, B-52’s,

Bob | 10/23/2009, 9:30 pm EST

Upon hearing this, I just started to like Rachel Ray a little more.

Anonymous | 10/24/2009, 8:34 am EST

Expanding the amount of inductees per year would NOT water down the honor, as long as they all truly deserve it.

Inducting the likes of LL Cool J, on the other hand, does dilute it.

David | 10/24/2009, 1:08 pm EST

Gag me. Perhaps a pop hall of fame entry next to the Beegees, the Captain and Tenille and Air Supply. Dont get me wrong they have talent but just are not Rockn Roll Hall material. Brutal, next someone will nominate the Back Street Boys…

your mom | 10/24/2009, 6:04 pm EST

Actually Joan Jett probably should go in before them, because of her impact as a post-punk women’s rock icon, and because of her many hits and producing the Germs.

HOWEVER – Hall and Oates are the most successful duo in Rock history and their music has credibility in terms of soul and R&B in a way that their “soft rock” contemporaries do not. Are they culturally important? Maybe not like the Sex Pistols or Television (speaking of bands who belong and have never been nominated…). But they’re as relevant as AC/DC or Van Halen (who have had almost NO influence, despite their massive success) or Billy Joel (sorry) or dare I say it Blondie. And their songs still dominate the radio.

mcache | 10/24/2009, 11:40 pm EST

I think Rache’ ate Hall and Oats

Doug, Progression magazine | 10/25/2009, 10:50 am EST

Older bands that deserve to be inducted before Hall & Oates are even considered:
The Moody Blues
The Zombies
Yes
Steppenwolf
Deep Purple, for god’s sake!
ELP
Jethro Tull
Grand Funk Railroad
The Guess Who
Alice Cooper
Rush
Heart
Cheap Trick
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest
and many others…

jr | 10/25/2009, 7:30 pm EST

Just one more reason why Hall and Oates should NOT be inducted.

jr | 10/25/2009, 7:34 pm EST

“Hall and Oates are the most successful duo in Rock history.”

Uh, no.

Are you just making up stuff?

Ever heard of Simon and Garfunkel? Ike and Tina? The Everly Brothers? Or, if you really want to get down to duos: John and Paul? Bono and Edge?

JDH on the radio | 10/27/2009, 2:27 pm EST

“In the late 1980s, Hall & Oates bested the record for number one hits set by the Everly Brothers, making them the most successful rock duo.” You can find the facts on many online sites. Other duos mentioned by “jr” either are already inducted or not really duos per se. Hall & Oates deserve the recognition based on the facts–and fan appreciation!

KeLeMi | 10/31/2009, 10:58 am EST

The R&R Hall of Fame had a big hoopla in NYC. But these R&R celebs aren’t in Connie Francis, Chubby Checker, Iron Maiden, Joe Cocker, the Smiths, Hall & Oates, Cher,Neil Diamond, the Monkees, Heart or Kiss. Why aren’t they?

TamMadea | 11/13/2009, 11:43 pm EST

Daryl Hall and John Oates–most successful duo in pop/rock history— no denying it. It’s a fact. Like them or not, they have earned their way into The R&RHOF. Show some respect for talent, genuine talent.

Arlene Reinhart Johnson | 11/14/2009, 9:45 pm EST

Daryl Hall and John Oates are the most talented and most successful rock duo of all time! They deserve to be in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. They have worked hard and have definitely paid their dues. Not a day goes by that I don’t hear one of their great songs being played either on the radio, in a store, in a restaurant or on my very own ipod. Let’s give it up for Daryl and John because THEY ROCK THE WORLD!!!
