So it turns out the Balloon Boy fiasco was one big hoax. That didn’t prevent us from dedicating last weekend’s Rock List to Falcon Heene and songs about flying. We called the local news, then the FAA, then the local police before finally tallying the votes — which had the readers choosing Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly” as the best aviation-inspired song, edging out stiff competition from Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd and Neil Young. Check below for the full Top 15:

1. Foo Fighters – “Learn to Fly”
2. Pearl Jam – “Given to Fly”
3. Tom Petty – “Learning to Fly”
4. Steve Miller Band – “Fly Like an Eagle”
5. The Beatles – “Flying”
6. Lenny Kravitz – “Fly Away”
7. Lynyrd Skynyrd – “Free Bird”
8. Neil Young – “Expecting to Fly”
9. Aerosmith – “Fly Away From Here”
10. U2 – “The Fly”
11. Pink Floyd – “Learning to Fly”
12. Wings – “Jet”
13. M.I.A. – “Paper Planes”
14. The Beatles – “Blackbird”
15. Led Zeppelin – “Night Flight”

Yes, please! The Trident advertisement isn’t allowing me to click the links properly. But great list! Gotta put that together on my pod now :)

How about the 5th Dimension’s “Up, Up and Away”

This list would be more effective if it were songs to listen WHILE you are flying, like Discovery or Sigur Ros. Also starkly absent is “Up, Up and Away (The Wake and Bake Song)” by Kid Cudi.
Although I’m stoked Foo Fighters took the top spot. The video for that tune is timeless.

Isn’t that Paul McCartney song “Jet” really about his dog?

How can you call yourself Rolling Stone Magazine readers…how can someone forget “Fly By Night” by RUSH.
