Paul McCartney for Songwriter of the Year? What year, 1969 or 2009?

Ross | 10/15/2009, 9:36 am EST

Weird. John Lennon wrote “All You Need Is Love” and “Come Together”.

Ross,

All Beatles songs by John or Paul, are credited to LENNON/MCCARTNEY. Regardless of who contributed more.

But yes, both those were primarily written by John.

I don’t think Paul contributed much to All You Need is Love, but he is responsible for how Come Together sounds. It was Paul’s idea to slow the song down and give it a “swampy” sound, and Paul devised the electric piano and the bass line that make the song.

That said, why the heck would ASCAP honor him in 2009?? Weird.

Come Together | 10/15/2009, 1:07 pm EST

Is a good song; what makes it great is Macca’s bassline. That being said, that’s more of an arrangement issue than a songwriting one. Whatever, I also wonder why he’d be getting awards for stuff he wrote in the sixties. “Sing the Changes” is brilliant though and that’s 2009.

Because he’s Paul McCartney…that’s why.
Let’s hear some of YOUR songs.
