10/13/09, 8:36 am EST

  • In the wake of his poorly received onstage protest at the VMAs, Kanye West said he needed to take time off — then announced (and promptly canceled) his Fame Kills tour with Lady Gaga. Now MSNBC’s Scoop is reporting the MC has escaped to India to rehabilitate himself.

  • Julian Lennon has recorded a song in honor of the “Lucy” who inspired the Beatles’ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” (a schoolmate named Lucy Vodden who died from Lupus last month). Julian will donate some proceeds from “Lucy,” available at The Revolution, to Lupus research.
  • Carrie Underwood’s Christmas special will air on Fox on December 7th and be helmed by American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance gurus Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Dolly Parton and David Cook will guest.
  • Tom Waits has announced a live album titled Glitter and Doom will be released November 24th. According to a press release, the CD set includes 17 tracks from his summer 2008 tour and a second disc called Tom’s Tales that features Waits’ “quixotic ruminations on topics ranging from romantic spiders to injured vultures.”

Regarding the Julian Lennon story, that’s not the story behind ‘Lucy…’. Recently Macca, as well as Ringo and George in previous interviews, stated for the record that the song was inspired by Julian’s little painting he did, which Paul saw during a visit to Lennon’s estate.

Over the years, ‘Lucy…’ has been said to be inspired by LSD and/or this Lucy woman referenced in the article, but the official reason – again according several recent interviews from Paul, is that ‘Lucy…’ was inspired by a painting from a very young Julian.

As to the reasons behind the latest re-telling of the ‘Lucy…’ inspiration, I would assume that it sounds nice and is a good lead in to the benefit, which is a very good thing, don’t get me wrong, but coming from the ORIGINAL inspiration of the song, it seems a bit disingenous.

Great song, great cause and I wish all those involved much sucess.

Cheers!

I forgot to add that the interview with Macca that I referenced can be seen in “The Making of Sgt. Peppers” documentary, as well as the Anthology documentary set.

BUT WASN’T SHE A SCHOOLMATE OF JULIANS’ THAT HE WAS SMITTEN WITH? THAT’S WHAT I ALWAYS THOUGHT.

Yes there was a real Lucy – You are right Keaton12, Julian’s artwork in question was a picture of his classmate Lucy!
