Miley Cyrus & the Notorious B.I.G., “Party and Bullshit in the U.S.A.” [Mashup]
What’s most remarkable about this mashup by Andrew Hathaway is how perfectly the play-doh production suits Biggie’s delivery — proving the long-held theory that Biggie could pretty much rap over anything. You guys hear that Bigge/Tesla mashup? Yeah, it’s badass.

Mariah Carey feat. Big Boi, Gucci Mane and OJ Da Juiceman, “H.A.T.E.U.” [Remix]
See, now, this is a classic case where we wish the remix was the original. It reminds us how great Mariah can sound when she’s paired with a track that deserves her, and how great Big Boi sounds pretty much all the time.

Lenny Kravitz, “Let Love Rule” [Justice Remix]
Kravitz’s original may have stolen from the ’60s, but this Justice remix kicks it up a decade to the disco era, mostly so that Lenny’s bellbottoms might finally seem fashionable.

Jay-Z & Alicia Keys, “Empire State of Mind” [Mikey Mic Remix]
It takes a few seconds to get going (36, to be precise), but once it does, this reworking goes straight to bizarro world, cutting Jay’s voice down to a sliver and lacing it across a hyperventilating electro track. Jay should perhaps keep Mic’s number on hand for that experimental record he’s got planned.

Frightened Rabbit, “Swim Until You Can’t See Land” [New Track]
OK, we’re cheating a little on this one — it’s not a live track or a cover or a remix, but it is a new track from a spectacular Scottish band that not enough people know about. We suggest you find a quiet spot this afternoon, turn your desk speakers up and drink it all in.

What is the point of mash-ups anyway? Take one crappy song, mix it with another crappy song and you get a doubly crappy song. Music today is FULL of crappy songs, we don’t need more!

Jay-z remix is some real euro feel type ish… This would be a real welcome addition to the US music scene. Shout out to Mikey Mic, Jamaican born Swedish based DJ.
