Liam Gallagher Declares Oasis Are Officially “No Longer”

When Noel Gallagher revealed in August that he was leaving Oasis, fans hoped that the Gallagher brothers would reconcile (yet again) and the band would reconnect. However, two months have passed since the contentious siblings reportedly clashed backstage, and this time it’s Liam Gallagher who is proclaiming that Oasis are officially finished in a new interview with the Times U.K.. “Oasis is no longer. I think we all know that. So that’s done,” Liam said. “Without a doubt. And it’s a shame but that’s life. We had a good run at it.”

Check out backstage and live shots from Oasis’ final U.S. tour.

As Rolling Stone reported in August, Noel Gallagher left Oasis before the band’s scheduled concert in France after he and Liam reportedly “had a fight backstage.” After the blowup, Noel released a statement that reads, “It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”

Liam Gallagher says he was relieved that the band ended on its own terms, even if the terms included flailing fists. “We ended Oasis. No one ended it for us, which is kind of cool,” the frontman told the Times U.K., adding that the ride as one of the biggest British bands of the decade was “always a lot of fun,” but “nothing lasts forever.” With Oasis finished — although we suspect a large check from Glastonbury will eventually give the Gallaghers second thoughts — Liam said he’ll next concentrate on his own music. “I’m thinking of what the next step is musically, which is all my mind’s on,” Liam said. “I’ll be doing music to the day I die.”

Neo | 10/9/2009, 10:12 am EST

This band was done about 10 years ago.

Ty | 10/9/2009, 10:19 am EST

Not true Neo, they were actually having a creative career revival with the releases of Dig Out Your Soul and Don’t Believe The Truth. Sad to see them split, here is hoping that they reconcile some time down the road.

Anonymous | 10/9/2009, 10:27 am EST

There will one day be the big reunion tour. Might take a few years to get there, but it will eventually happen.

And when it does, I hope its the original classic lineup.

tony montana | 10/9/2009, 10:30 am EST

this band hasn’t put out a great album since morning glory.
they got rid of that band and never got their mojo again.
thy’re two whiny wankers all coked up and trying to be the beatles but they can’t cause there’s only one.
fuck these bitches!

JV | 10/9/2009, 10:37 am EST

Who cares, oasis makes crap music and they are crap people which makes it impossible for me to listen to them. That goes to you to Kanye.

chris7 | 10/9/2009, 11:21 am EST

but dont look back in anger I heard you say…at least not today.

good idea Liam and Noel ti stop the bleeding from your pie holes.

AB | 10/9/2009, 11:25 am EST

Great. Who cares. Maybe these 2 douchebags will finally go away and leave the music-making to a band who actually has talent.

Talk about an overrated act wearing out their 15 minutes – see ya!

Regal | 10/9/2009, 11:26 am EST

I’m not sure how anyone could consider Noel to be “whiny” or how they were “trying to be the Beatles” any more than any other band, but hey, whatever. Ignorance is bliss, I guess, although in the cases of people who post below articles it just seems to be frustrating.

Joshua | 10/9/2009, 11:35 am EST

Rock is Dead.. like them or not, they were the last true rock band.

BK | 10/9/2009, 11:47 am EST

Rock is alive and well. Listen to some My Morning Jacket or Black Keys if you don’t believe me. These guys were great, but they are far past their creative peaks as indicated on their last album (or last 3 if you want to get technical).

JCS | 10/9/2009, 11:49 am EST

Oasis is far from the last true rock band…nor is rock dead. Rock on radio is dead. Go to club and find some real rock bands

KDK | 10/9/2009, 11:53 am EST

It’s always better to burn out than to fade away.

kwijibo | 10/9/2009, 11:56 am EST

oasis sucked anyway

Oasis Sucks | 10/9/2009, 12:01 pm EST

Wait who cares? These guys were never good anyway…”washed up”…they were washed up since birth. Go listen to a good band like Radiohead

Jungleland2 | 10/9/2009, 12:11 pm EST

Give em 3-4 years to cool out and they will do a reunion tour. Black Crowes did the same thing in 2000

Brubeck | 10/9/2009, 12:30 pm EST

Rock is alive in America, it’s rock stars that are dead. American rock ‘n’ roll is now middle-class and whiny. Oasis were the last rock band from the street, which is why America didn’t understand them. There’s no more rock stars now.

Biggin in me Swartz | 10/9/2009, 12:31 pm EST

They were irrelevant 10 + years ago. See ya do not let the door on great music hit you on your way out.

zee | 10/9/2009, 12:43 pm EST

no need to worry all you oasis lovers.. in a few years when these two idiots realize no one is paying attention to them and more importantly the “money” starts drying up… they will announce their “reunion” tour.. personnally, I thought they were way over-rated…

Gomez | 10/9/2009, 12:44 pm EST

Thats funny …a good band like radiohead. Another band with a cool name that sucks

PN | 10/9/2009, 12:53 pm EST

It’s really sad and a pity to see them split. It’s been only about a year or two since i started liking Oasis’s music and was expecting another album after Dig Out Your Soul.Too Bad its not possible anymore.

MD | 10/9/2009, 1:04 pm EST

Noel Gallagher should have a very bright future ahead of him as a solo act. The man can write some excellent tunes, plays a wicked guitar, and has an amazing voice…

Good luck, Liam.

Anonymous | 10/9/2009, 1:11 pm EST

go-away-sis.

Josh | 10/9/2009, 1:17 pm EST

Thanks for the music boys we still got the memories you will with out a doubt LIVE FOREVER BEST BAND IN THE WORLD AND ALWAYS WILL BE JUST HAPPY TO SAY I SEEN THEM TWICE IN CARDIFF.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE BAND.

me | 10/9/2009, 1:18 pm EST

Oasis is done….thank God.They were nothing but a buch of cocky stuck up guys who sucked.

Penny Lane | 10/9/2009, 1:24 pm EST

There will never be another group like them. I have a feeling they will probably reunite sometime in the future most likely in 2012 when they get asked to play at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. That’s what I think though.

That guy | 10/9/2009, 1:29 pm EST

I used to actually like them, till I realized how big of douche bags they were, and I don’t support douche bags.

Matthew | 10/9/2009, 1:30 pm EST

Radiohead is nothing but pretentious warbling. Oasis were passionate though, but it’s about time they came to an end. If they got together again it would have to be a top quality album and nothing less.

I look forward to a Noel Gallagher solo album – it should be great to hear.

TequilaMockingbird | 10/9/2009, 1:37 pm EST

My money’s on the reunion year being 2011. The bank accounts of the Brothers Gallagher won’t let it end.

Michael | 10/9/2009, 1:53 pm EST

Oasis & Cool are two words you cannot use in the sam sentance. Good ridance to that rat running around his throat & the worst guitarist ever.

the stig | 10/9/2009, 2:01 pm EST

I thought it was funny when Liam said KURT COBAIN was a tool.

Owen Roe O'Neil | 10/9/2009, 2:20 pm EST

Their first two albums are ridiculously good, kinda shit after that but they remained a great live act. Liam must be doing massive amounts of coke if he thinks he can have a career without Noel.

walrus | 10/9/2009, 2:22 pm EST

Great band…they had a great run with six or so fantastic albums..and a couple of shit ones..

But so noel will go on to a fabulous solo career while the others will suck for a while..then they’ll reunite hopefully before too long

ii | 10/9/2009, 2:28 pm EST

I agree with whoever said rock isn’t dead due to great bands like MMJ and The Black Keys, but for a lot of people, including me, Oasis will be missed. They’re douches and lets face it, not every song they did was gold, but i still liked a large portion of their stuff and Dig Out Your Soul was a fantastic record.

derek trucks | 10/9/2009, 2:29 pm EST

Oasis was a great band and Noel’s pretty talented. Liam on his own will be an epic fail.

Rock is not, and will never be, dead.

Beatlemaniac | 10/9/2009, 2:48 pm EST

Liam is the real tool. Cobain never made a bad album. And there can be only ONE BEATLES. And these guys were not it, no matter how much they liked to name drop. Oasis were Britain’s most overated band of pompous twats to ever grace a rag.

k-ray 42 | 10/9/2009, 2:56 pm EST

Big Deal. Remember when these blowhards slammed Michael Hutchence at an awards show. These douche’s never gained the relevance that INXS did–which isn’t much. Good riddance.

Bit James | 10/9/2009, 2:58 pm EST

The music was overrated (the last 3) but to be fair they had there moments of brilliance!

Liam is the real deal who made the band tick. God bless monkey man, twat rock star.

shoegaze | 10/9/2009, 3:02 pm EST

RIDE REUNION NOW!!!!! 10 times better than Oasis ever was.

great week. | 10/9/2009, 3:07 pm EST

oasis is done, new radiohead album next year, new Animal Collective EP soon, Pavement’s reunion shows…Life is good.

Swingline | 10/9/2009, 3:12 pm EST

Why is it that a good chunk of punk, metal, and hip hop acts thrive on and celebrate “douche-ery”, but the minute a rock act does it people act like they’re stomping on sacred ground?
Attitude will get you much further than just plain musical talent and this band was one of the best examples of that.
Never once thought Oasis’ goal was to make everyone like them, but rather make everyone have an opinion about them. Think that’s much harder since you have to really work at generating hate instead of indifference.

getthedoggie | 10/9/2009, 3:12 pm EST

Hugely overrated in my opinion.. after the first 2 discs it was their big mouths that got them headlines, not their music. How many times did they try to
re-write the Beatles ‘Rain’ ?

tim | 10/9/2009, 3:12 pm EST

actually the one after morning glory( from ‘97, cant remember the name) was their last good one, so who really cares?

Gurjit | 10/9/2009, 3:22 pm EST

I used to think Oasis were good back when I was a kid. But then I listened to U2, Pearl Jam, REM and Rage and realised that there’s better sounds out there.

Anonymous | 10/9/2009, 3:41 pm EST

THANK GOD!!

Oasis Blows | 10/9/2009, 4:20 pm EST

This band sucks. They’ve had maybe 3 good songs. Fuck the Gallaghers, they will never be anything significant.

Andy | 10/9/2009, 4:20 pm EST

Noel is not the prick, Liam is.

Jack | 10/9/2009, 6:03 pm EST

Liam’s not the prick, Andy, you are if anything for assuming that about him. I love how you jumped up idiots act as if you know them personally and they’ve wronged you somehow. They went out when they were still hugely relevant to millions of people worldwide. Oh, and one more thing, Liam’s a much better singer than Noel. If you like yer bland and uninteresting voices then Noel’s your man, but if you want someone with a bit of fucking soul, then Liam’s there for you. I’ll listen to Dig Out Your Soul for years to come. RIP, best band of a generation.

Live Forever | 10/9/2009, 6:11 pm EST

Fuck everyone here who says Oasis is shit. They were the last true rock stars, they had the drug addiction, the groupies and the cocksure arrogance that all of the great bands had. Radiohead are a bunch of artsy pricks who think wind chimes are a musical instrument. 2 final things, 1.) Oasis draw a lot from the Stone Roses than The Beatles (not that any american ass hole knows who the roses are)& 2.)Noel alone is worth about 25 million GBP so they wont be bankrupt anytime soon

smacked | 10/9/2009, 6:19 pm EST

Insight and itelligence. I wish eveyone had it.

Al | 10/9/2009, 6:50 pm EST

Oasis are one of the best bands of all time. They did a lot for music and shaped British culture, more so in the “Cool Britannia Years”, which obviously Americans won’t be able to relate to.

People who think they’re “Pricks” can have that opinion, but they’re bloody great pricks.

Oasis will LF!

tbonespop | 10/9/2009, 7:09 pm EST

The finest band of a generation and truly one of the rock greats that belong to an elite list of talent including Beatles, Stones, Zep, and The Who. To those that never “got it”, maybe some day you will (if you actually learn to listen to your music instead of reading about it!) Oasis forever.

madferit | 10/9/2009, 7:22 pm EST

americans dont get oasis but glorify absolute bollocks like green day or aerosmith.
thank fuck for the brits when it comes to rock and roll

Steve Adler | 10/9/2009, 7:43 pm EST

I will drum for you guys!!!!

Jack | 10/9/2009, 8:10 pm EST

I just think if you don’t like them, dont post comments about them or read articles on them.

Just because you dont like something, doesn’t make it shit.

I’m not the biggest Radiohead fan but I can still admit they make clever, decent music.

For me, Oasis are one of the biggest bands of all time. The fact that people say their music sounds too much like The Beatles surely isnt a bad thing? Noel Gallagher is a class act who can write beautiful, deep music and still write exciting, raw adrenaline pumping music too. Listen to Talk Tonight and tell me it isn’t a class song. Then listen to Rock’n'Roll Star and tell me it doesn’t get you hyped.

They were a classic rock band who will always be remembered. Sometimes they’ll be remembered for spats with the media and the cocky arrogance that shadows them, but overall their great music will be what’s remembered most. I saw them at Wembley this year and it was the greatest night of my life.

Stop being childish and writing something off just because you dont like it or something associated with it. Grow up.

Oh, and Oasis? Thanks for the enjoyment you’ve given me, my friends and other fans across the world.

Tonight, I’m a Rock’n'Roll star.

newday | 10/9/2009, 8:40 pm EST

It funny how so many ppl. who say Oasis suck are taking time to commment on them. That’s a sign that they did mean something. They never did anything truely great after Morning Glory, but they deserve credit for reviving british rock and everyone says that including Rolling Stone. Maybe they were overrated, but they were highly influencial for bands like the Libertines, The Artic Monkeys, Coldplay, The Killers, and Maroon 5. That deserves the time of day no matter what anyone says.

lonelybones | 10/9/2009, 9:05 pm EST

even people that dislike oasis take the time to come on something like this and go ‘blah blah oasis this oasis that’…what most people seem to not understand is they came along at a time when music was in a dire state in the uk and turned alot of young kids onto other stuff like neil young and even sonic youth (yes I’d never heard of them until Noel mentioned them in an interview). They saved british kids from east 17 and take that..They have on the other hand been guilty for inspiring hundreds of awful bands however, and I agree they should’ve split up after Knebworth.

lonelybones | 10/9/2009, 9:10 pm EST

I can’t believe someone up there said ‘the relevance of INXS’….surely thats a joke? INXS?

Noel (not gallagher) | 10/9/2009, 9:34 pm EST

Man, what a redundant and expected way to go, I was hoping for something more exciting but since when did Oasis do anything new :P . I’m gonna miss them, they were the first band I listened to religiously-like. Noel will hopefully do fine if he continues to make new music and Liam will be interesting to listen to, I know his music will be a bit different than normal Oasis.

deeznuts | 10/9/2009, 10:59 pm EST

Goodbye, beatlebums! Long live Supergrass.

Jack | 10/9/2009, 11:09 pm EST

INXS, an Australian band, sold over 30 million albums between 1977 and 1997. They had #1 albums all over the world. What’s more, in 1991, they sold out Wembley Stadium. Like ‘em or not, they were relevant.

What did Oasis do outside of the U.K.? Not much.

Publynxter | 10/9/2009, 11:37 pm EST

Great Live Band! Their recordings will live forever in my rock room! Whatever! Like the Crowes..The Most Rock and Roll Rock and Roll Band In The World. USA

Andrea | 10/9/2009, 11:55 pm EST

It’s interesting how the people who slag off Oasis or just the Gallagher brothers don’t even get the music but took a few minutes out of their time to comment on an article about the band.

I wish a lot more people understood that they were fans of the Beatles, The Smiths, Stone Roses, etc. but have their own style. Others just think they’re a bunch of manc arrogant twats. At least, they are honest and they deserved the accolades. If all artists think they’re own music is rubbish, then why release it? And, they are in the process of getting back to their true form. Sure there were some dodgy albums but a lot (if not all) artists do have some records that aren’t that great (and yet these people worship bands like Fall Out Boy?!).

It would have been nice to see a Noel vs Oasis match-up. But now that Oasis is over, we’d get a chance to see what Noel and Liam can do without having something/someone hold them back from releasing songs with their own style.

Rock & Roll isn’t about getting thrown off ferries, it’s about the music. This band proved it. Great live band – even the b-sides are great!

mmd | 10/9/2009, 11:58 pm EST

oasis are one of the best fucking bands of all time. no one will ever come close to the swagger, the style, the wit, the accents, and of course the tunes. OASIS,MSG, NYC, 2009=PROOF. LIVE FORVER.

Flyinhigh420 | 10/10/2009, 12:52 am EST

I love Oasis. I dont understand all the haters saying their whiny and arent talented. Get lifted and listen to Champaign supernova and tell me that doesnt blow your mind.

Sam | 10/10/2009, 2:29 am EST

Jack…you are so stupid. How about getting some actual facts before posting. INXS were nothing compared to Oasis

Oasis have sold over 70 million records worldwide in 14 year…which makes INXS’s 30 mil in 20 years sound puny…doesn’t it?

Oasis sold out 3 nights @ Wembley earlier this year as well as selling out the Hollywood Bowl and MSG. Not to mention Knebworth in 1997 (if you don’t know about that look it up…THAT is rock history)

Additionally…OAS IS had #1 albums all over the world…INXS only ever had #1’s in the UK and Australia.

And Oasis continued to have #1 and Top Ten albums worldwide until they disbanded. By 1997 INXS couldn’t even make the top 10 in their own country let alone around the world.

Ray | 10/10/2009, 3:33 am EST

Once Liam realizes no one cares about him as a solo act, he’ll go running back to Noel for help. Oh, and Flyinhigh420, it’s CHAMPAGNE Supernova. Yeah, you were a big fan, huh?

jimmy3 | 10/10/2009, 3:48 am EST

sit back and listen to champagne supernova loud and dare to tell me it doesn’t give you goosebumps! oasis made me pick up the guitar because in england all it does is rain!! great band. great memories! but it was all about those first two albums!

Ryan | 10/10/2009, 5:54 am EST

Fucking yanks, what do you useless fat twats know about rock n roll? look at the charts in your country you fat fucks, its all dance, RnB and shit like that. Oasis gave the world a period were people were’nt controlled by shit music. Now ur shit music is invading our countries and i have to put up with shit like kayne

to the aussie go fuck a kangaroo and stick ur boomarang up ur ass, because that INSC band or whatever shit its called is probably the worse band in exsistance and anyone one who listens to it should be shot…

cha | 10/10/2009, 6:26 am EST

i like their songs…but they will never make a new one anymore…

The Truth | 10/10/2009, 8:45 am EST

“INXS, an Australian band, sold over 30 million albums between 1977 and 1997. They had #1 albums all over the world. What’s more, in 1991, they sold out Wembley Stadium. Like ‘em or not, they were relevant.

What did Oasis do outside of the U.K.? Not much.”

Well, Oasis sold over 70 million records (between 1994 and 2009), have been selling out stadiums for 14 years, sold out MSG both of their past US tours (2008 and 2005), played 2 sold out shows at the Hollywood Bowl (2005) and reached #5 on Billboard (you know, US charts) with their most recent release last fall. Upon release, their records are in the top 5 worldwide chart every time and they’ve headlined multiple major music festivals in just about every country that Western bands typical tour. Noel’s had his own signature guitar and they’ve repeatedly won the praise of seemingly irrelevant individuals such as George Martin, Pete Townshend, Johnny Marr and Stephen Thomas Erlewine, to name but a few. Shall we continue to compare them with INXS?

asdf | 10/10/2009, 9:12 am EST

Hey, at least they managed to make one respectable post-Morning Glory album before they split.

tony montana | 10/10/2009, 9:23 am EST

fuck you liam! wanker!
liam now you can take a bath you filthy loudmouth swine!
noel will go on and make a good solo album and then eat a coke sandwich!

martin coward (london) | 10/10/2009, 9:46 am EST

rip oasis , long live one of the greatest frontman of rock n roll . liam you are a true star .

codewhiz | 10/10/2009, 10:47 am EST

I’m with shoegaze! I was hoping Mark Gardener could be the replacement for Noel in Oasis. :P

for those on here who are dumb | 10/10/2009, 2:18 pm EST

theyve made decent music thru their careers…all of u who say morning glory was their only good or last good is because thats all u ever chose to hear….

fuck i hate those who never open their minds…

Married with Children | 10/10/2009, 2:54 pm EST

The real quality of Oasis was to write adrenalin-pumping songs that got you in a mood to get drunk, and at that they were simply awesome.

The song that doesn’t meet this criteria but is still gold is ‘Married with Children’.

I could listen to that all day.

RIP, the first 2 albums are solid, legendary, hall-of fame worthy gold.

PJ | 10/10/2009, 2:55 pm EST

Oasis are done and Radiohead are making an album next year. SCORE!

Anonymous | 10/10/2009, 3:50 pm EST

It’s a shame, really. People actually liked Oasis. But the brotherly bullshit was getting old.

peasandgravy | 10/10/2009, 4:21 pm EST

Roll up roll up, here come the anti Oasis voyeurs, clicking the mouse over any mention, read the story then leave silly little replies. F’kin rent boys the lot of you. God bless Oasis and all who sailed with them.

Better Than OASIS | 10/10/2009, 5:28 pm EST

At least INXS lasted 30+ years..

thank f**k Oasis are finished

THE END

You hear that oasis. thats the sound of no one giving a shit!

daveangel | 10/10/2009, 6:46 pm EST

Haha….my fellow countrymen putting My Country Jacket as rock and roll….why not add Dave F***** Matthews!
I have been following Oasis since 1994 and they were true Rock and Roll. Had some dodgy albums but last two albums were great!
Who is left in Rock and Roll with some attitude – at least we have Green Day….ohh dear!

JABAGI | 10/10/2009, 6:47 pm EST

terrible news…

ScotinTexas | 10/10/2009, 6:49 pm EST

You Yanks (some of you) are very insular and ignorant people. To call Oasis not big outside the UK. They have sold out stadiums Australia, South America, all of Europe, Japan, Korea for the past 15 years…I could go on but you guys probably couldn’t find those countries on the map!! You lot should travel some time see what its like…..Oasis are Rock and Roll….Live Forever boys!

billy | 10/10/2009, 6:56 pm EST

long live Oasis – 15 great years of proper Rock and Roll. Why do some people (mostly Americans) continue to say ‘nothing done since Morning Glory. Selling out Stadiums throughout the world (that place outside of the US) doesn’t lie! I like Radiohead, but can be very pretentious – prefer Oasis concert for pure Rock and Roll!
If the 2 best current Rock Bands that someone mentioned are My Morning Jacket and Black Keys (who are o.k) then god help us!!

Mike | 10/10/2009, 8:35 pm EST

He will always be involved in music, and it will always mean nothing

The Truth | 10/10/2009, 9:48 pm EST

Oasis was huge. You wouldn’t know it in the US because we’re all worried about Fall Out Boy and Miley Cyrus. They sold out huge venues across the world, better ask someone who knows.

Andy | 10/10/2009, 10:12 pm EST

Noel is the better singer of the brothers, and Liam is a well documented prick. they both can be jerks, but Liam is by far the worst of the 2.

Paul | 10/10/2009, 11:14 pm EST

Nothing like a little musical jingoism. Just but American fans have deserted Oasis does not mean that they lack importance on a global scale. Easily one of the most important bands of the last 20 years.

Simon G. | 10/10/2009, 11:33 pm EST

They’re living legends. Period. And no one can take that away from them. The impact they had with their first two albums is enough to equal the legacies of some bands whole careers. Sure the albums after that weren’t as impactful, though some of them are quite good. But either way, these guys are representative of what rock n roll SHOULD be, and I hope they patch it up before long. Love Andy and Gem too.

Bryan Dutchoasis | 10/11/2009, 12:12 am EST

you bloody americans go stab yourselfs in the head in front of your fuckin’ webcam but don’t talk shit about the best band in the world after the beatles.

But it’s ok you people cut your wrists while listening to pearl jam and nirvana but i just like to keep on live forever like a rock n roll star cuz thats what i am i don’t like these sad complaining shitpeople like you just fuck off fuckin american wankers, you know what, in the end youre all fucking englisch so youlle lern it sometime…

Bryan Dutchoasis | 10/11/2009, 12:18 am EST

AJ | 10/11/2009, 5:00 am EST

Sam, maybe you should check your facts…Additionally…OAS IS had #1 albums all over the world…INXS only ever had #1’s in the UK and Australia.

INXS has number ones all over the world – including a number one in the US – Need you Tonight – And 7 top 10 singles in the US alone.

Michael Hutchence was a true rock and roll frontman – close to the best of his generaiton in terms of perforance and talent – Id watch him any day of the week over those angry little try hards in Oasis.

Best band of our generation. First 2 albums were genius, best of all time. Over 20 amazing b-sides. They have over 100 songs i love. They will live forever in my life. Wembley this year was stunning. Thank you Oasis, you changed my life, we no longer have the band but we will always have their music

hhaha to the person who said oasis didnt do anything outside of the U.K.. Sure they werent big in the U.S. but look at all the south american and asian countries. They sold half of all their albums in those places. In their last tour they were selling out 60,000 to 80,000 at the gigs in places like argentina and brazil.U cant say they didnt have an influence in other countries.

Oasis, the greatest of our generation hands down, the second coming of the beatles. How anyone can say there not musically talented is beyond me, bizzare. Me thinks its time for noel to go solo.

Jack | 10/11/2009, 12:23 pm EST

“By 1997 INXS couldn’t even make
the top 10 in their own country let alone around the world.”

An argument from ignorance. For starters, Elegantly Wasted was an international hit. It was in the Top 20 in several countries, including the United States, where the Elegantly Wasted tour was sold out. The album also went to #1 in Argentina and South Africa. And this is 20 years into the band’s run and ten years after it’s peak.

Between 1986 and 1992, INXS had seven consecutive Top 10 hits in the United States. To this day, INXS is the only foreign act to ever accomplish this.

INXS once rivaled U2 as the “biggest band in the world.” On a global scale, at their peak, they were bigger than Oasis. No question.

Oasis may have maintained some status in your tiny country, but after a couple of hits in the United States in the 90’s, they disappeared. Conversely, INXS had hits on the American charts for TEN YEARS.

Here’s another figure for you: Oasis biggest album in the U.S., “What’s The Story?,” sold 3.9 million units. “Kick” sold 11 million. Oasis’ popularity in the U.S. never approached what INXS had in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Period.

———–

“Sha ll we continue to compare them with INXS?”

Yes. We shall. You clueless dipshit.

Hey Live Forever | 10/11/2009, 1:02 pm EST

Fuck you. Radiohead is the best and better than oasis has been for 10 years. they were good in the 90s but now suck ass

Jack needs to research | 10/11/2009, 5:32 pm EST

“What’s The Story?,” sold 3.9 million units. “Kick” sold 11 million in the US”

First of all…Kick is only certified 6x platinum in the US…so that is 6 million…not 11 (which would be diamond) and WTSMG is certified 4x platinum (4 million…because I am a fan I know it is 4.6 million)

And I thought that we were talking about WORLDWIDE success? The US is NOT the world! Oasis’s WTSMG sold 22 million worldwide (even if only almost 5 million were in the US…which actually signifies INTERNATIONAL to me more than a record that sold mostly in on country)…far above the worldwide sales of even INXS’s Kick.

Additionally Oasis have sold 70 million records since 1994. INXS sold about 30 million since 1980.

And so what their tour sold out. Oasis played their biggest ever tour in 2009 and sold out as well. They have never played a tour that hasn’t sold out…

Oasis last two records charted #1 in the UK and Italy and TOP 8 an additional 10 countries including the US (I don’t bother with anything below top 10 that is Mickey Mouse territory…not sure how the album did in Argentina and S. Africa. LOL) As for going #1 in Argentina and S. Africa. Yeah, those countries are really known for being on the cutting edge of Rock ‘n Roll…kids grow up dreaming that they can have #1 records in Argentina and S. Africa.

And if Elegantly Wasted was an “international hit” then Oasis first song of the most recent record (2008) was well. Since it charted @ better than Elegantly Wasted internationally (including in the US)

Oasis have had 22 consecutive top tens in the UK (over 17 years). The ONLY act EVER, domestic or otherwise, to do so.

U2 have sold 145 MILLION records in their career…INXS sold only 30. U2 sold over 25 million of just the Joshua Tree (which is ACTUALLY a diamond record in the US)It’s easy to compare the two since their peaks albums came out the same year…and U2 has sold almost twice as many of Joshua Tree than INXS sold of Kick. INXS isn’t even bigger than Oasis internationally…and I am fully willing to admit that U2 bigger than Oasis internationally.

Additional ly…I am not a Brit, I’m American, so I don’t know what you are talking about saying “my tiny country”

Anonymous | 10/11/2009, 6:46 pm EST

Why do people waste their time commenting on a band they don’t even like? that always confuses me.

If you don’t like oasis fair enough but I think they were one of the last true rock n roll bands that this country had ever produced and I think it’s sad they split.(obviously my opinion)

But all those people who don’t like oasis remember alot of people think your favourite bands are crap too. So what is the point of slaggin off each others bands coz not everyone likes the same bands. (sad but true)

Sophie | 10/11/2009, 7:55 pm EST

Let’s face it, without Noel, Oasis would’ve limped on. Liam may have shown his songwriting skills and he is a good frontman (though I personally like Noel’s voice better), but Noel was the chief. He even admitted before Noel they were awful. When Noel was the sole songwriter for the group they were at their best (Definitely Maybe and What’s The Story Morning Glory). Maybe as solo acts we’d see their best work.

I don’t understand why people say Noel is the prick. He’s the one who had to put up with the abuse from his brother. Noel wasn’t dissing Liam’s family. Liam on the other hand would question Noel’s paternity (Anais) and torment Sara. Yes, they’re brothers but it is hard to work with members of your family. I’m actually surpirised they were able to work together this long given that they had their history of blow-ups.

Kelly | 10/11/2009, 8:06 pm EST

Stop comparing Oasis with other bands. They clearly have different styles (INXS, Radiohead) and would clearly have different fan bases.

If you don’t like Oasis then don’t bother posting. Go on to your favorite Artist’s page and post comments there.

Oasis was never fully understood, especially in the US. They were a great band, not the biggest. Today we see bands that hope to be big and yet the music they make is juvenile. Oasis was the Britpop’s Stone Roses. A bunch of lads who sing about the realities of life and love, that things will be alright and that you can make things happen.

May be they need to do a comercial for Target like the washed out Pearl Jam.

Sam | 10/12/2009, 2:55 am EST

Check your facts.

INXS only sold 6 million of Kick in the US (if it had sold 11 million it would have been certified diamond…and I checked…RIAA has only certified it for 6x platinum…don’t trust uncited Wiki entries without verifying the info)WTSMG sold 4.6 million (it’s 4x platinum) Additionally Oasis sold 22 million of that album worldwide…which was more than the sales of Kick. (don’t know that sale of it…but considering the band only sold 30 million in their career and had moderate successes with a couple other albums the total sales couldn’t have been more than 15 million)

Oasis was 14 years after it’s peak and 17 year after their formation when their last album reached a # 1 in the UK and Italy and the Top 10 in an additional 8 countries @ least…including the US. They played their biggest ever tour in 2008-2009 and it sold out (as all Oasis tours have)

Their single off the recent album, Shock of the Lightening, charted better worldwide, and in the US, than Elegantly Wasted did….so if that was a international ‘hit’ then you have to admit that Oasis just had one as well.

Oasis’ album have consistently charted well in the major English music markets for the past 14 years. (never did they have to resort to celebrating a #1 in a third rate market like Argentina or S. Africa…LOL…pitiful!) Their last album was # 5 on the US album charts. It was in the Top 10 of at least 10 countries. THAT is worldwide success

They have charted 22 consecutive top 10 UK singles…that is more than any act, domestic or otherwise, in history. And I can only find 6 consecutive top 10 singles from INXS 1986-1992…so I don’t know waht you are talking about there.

So as much as you wish it weren’t so…Oasis were a bigger band internationally than INXS.

All of your stats seem to be trying to prove that INXS were big in the States…and there is not denying that….it is argueable that they were bigger than Oasis there…but it ISN’T argueable that they were a bigger INTERNATIONAL act.

Additionally…niether Oasis or INXS have EVER had a #1 album in America…but Oasis had a #2…INXS had a #3.

And as for rivaling U2 for the title of Biggest Band in the World. ARE YOU KIDDING?! U2 have sold over 145 million record worldwide. And 1987 was the peak of both bands. U2 sold over 25 million copies of Joshua Tree Worldwide (and over 10 million in the US…a TRUE diamond record)…that is almost as many as INXS’s career long sales!

INXS wasn’t even as big as Oasis…and even I’ll admit that U2 is bigger than Oasis.

Slim Shady | 10/12/2009, 10:44 am EST

Oasis WAS an incredible band. Unfortunately that got rid of the band that made their best music and put out some real garbage recently.

Also, Radiohead is the most overrated band in the history of music (followed by The Eagles).

tuohy | 10/12/2009, 10:55 am EST

It’s a huge shame, they were the best rock band since Nirvana and the best band until today, but I’m glad Oasis won’t limp on without noel. Noel is genius. He will have a great solo career.

rwt | 10/12/2009, 11:13 am EST

Oasis was one of the greatest UK rock bands ever. For all of you that continue to make these ignorant comments, undertsand that they never sold out and continued to make music the way they wanted too, including releasing music on their own label which caused them to turn down a boat-load of money from the major labels.
Hopefully they get back together. The friction between the two, which seemed to be caused by Liam, was probably what gave their songs and album that “edge”. They made great albums right up until their last. I am a big Oasis fan, Noel especially, but here’s hoping that they get it back together one day.

Northern Soul | 10/12/2009, 12:10 pm EST

Oasis were the last great rock and roll band proper. I am an American, and Oasis was the soundtrack to many a great night in my life. To this knob raving about INXS, I’m sure Oasis will have a bit more dignity than creating a reality show to find some average singer. Liam may be an arse, but at least he didn’t go out wankin it….

Nacnud. | 10/12/2009, 1:23 pm EST

I can’t believe some of the foolish comments being posted. Oasis were a good rock band that America just did not get. Oasis were pretty consistent in putting out amazing albums through out the years.

Most people today like their entertainment spoon fed to them. Meaning whatever the media dishes out to you, you buy it. The state of rock music today is pretty sad. Oasis will be missed

Ringomes | 10/12/2009, 1:43 pm EST

Oasis are real people and artists, rock stars and legends. I´don´t live in the States but you don´t know shit about anything… and you created Rockn´roll. You think Oasis are just big in Europe or Asia? Think again

Live Forever | 10/12/2009, 2:27 pm EST

I personally will miss Oasis a great deal…as much for their attitude as for their music.

They were TRUE Rock ‘n Roll Stars. Rock Stars should create controversy and be unafraid to state their opinions.

I have like all their albums for different reasons. It a pity that critics could never quite figure them out or assess their musical worth accurately. Their reviews have totally missed the mark throughout their career.

I mean…I went and looked @ Rolling Stones Oasis reviews. They gave WTSMG only 4 stars…I mean if that isn’t a 5 star album I don’t know what is. (the readers give it a solid 5 stars) They gave Be Here Now (1997) 4 Stars! And in retrospect they pan it…as if that had always been their opinion. They gave Masterplan (1998) (th B-side album), which is generally thought to contain two of the best Oasis tunes ever (Acquiesce & Masterplan) 2 1/2 stars. (the Reader give it 4 1/2) Again with Dig Out Your Soul they gave it a 2 1/2 (with the readers giving a solid 4 stars)

The music of Oasis will definitely be missed by millions of music fans…if not the music press…because I think they are a bit relieved that they are gone since they could never figure them out to begin with and it made them seem stupid when they panned a good album or hyped a not as good one.

Enough with the “America doesn’t get it” rhetoric. Oasis sold out plenty of stadiums in the US every year. We got it. And yes we listened to the Stone Roses too (gasp!). Newsflash, Ride was better.

bill | 10/12/2009, 5:03 pm EST

great band. i enjoyed their last couple records a great deal. i hope both gallaghers continue to make music and eventually reconcile.

Emarel | 10/12/2009, 5:29 pm EST

It’s too bad it ended the way it did, but it was bound to happen given their verbal and physical history of confrontation, they made some good tunes – but the majority of their songs are mostly forgettable compared to their idols The Beatles – Oasis got stuck in a formula and sound quite some time ago whereas The Beatles quite determinedly made each of their songs sound like nothing they had done previously – but Oasis seemed to be doing better with their last album Dig Out Your Soul, but that was their Abbey Road sort of. I personally think Noel needs to move on and find another singer songwriter or two to work with, I think he would really shine. Oasis were famous for being bad, over the years that I kept up with news about them, it seems to me that it was mostly news about their spats with each other or which one of the Gallagher brothers was trashing whom, but I guess that was largely part of the publicity machine; sells papers /mags / web site interest right? More advertisers buy add space, wonderful for everybody involved. But the Gallagher brothers will move on.
And Rock is certainly not going to be hurt by this, Rock is very much alive and well, thanks to Artists like Organic Compounds and Nick The Finger both of whom you can find on MySpace, check it out for yourself.

man, this blows.

noel wrote most of the songs anyway, and supported the group musically stronger than liam ever did. (although i prefer liam’s vocals.)

Ghost Writer | 10/12/2009, 7:29 pm EST

I don’t get why people have to write comments against a band when they don’t like them. It’s not worth it. I have to say I like them; well, their Morning Glory album at least. I didn’t really listen to their other stuff. And I don’t get why everybody has to compare everybody else to each other (Oasis to INXS and Radiohead). It’s annoying. Music is music, and every artistt is in their own league. Yes, we don’t have to like all the music out there, but that doesn’t mean it “sucks”, as some people like to point out. I have to say I am sad that they broke up. Hopefully they will do a reunion tour for their fans somewhere down the line.

Everett | 10/12/2009, 9:20 pm EST

That sucks they broke up I love this band to death.

Mavers18 | 10/13/2009, 1:17 am EST

Most people who slag off Oasis judge them entirely for Wonderwall (one of their weakest songs IMO). Most americans haven’t heard their classics like Champagne Supernova, Some Might Say, Half the World Away, and Cigarettes & Alcohol (but since when have americans understood good music). I’ll take The Smiths and Oasis over bands like Green Day and Bon Jovi any day.

versedandvested | 10/13/2009, 10:27 am EST

Seems like no band generates the comments like Oasis. Have these:

1. Rock N Roll Star
2. Live Forever
3. Supersonic
4. Bring it on Down
5. Roll With It
6. Don’t Look Back In Anger
7. What’s the Story Morning Glory?
8. Champagne Supernova
9. Dyou Know What I Mean?
10. Stand By Me
11. Dont’ Go Away
12. All Around the World
13. Go Let It Out
14. Where Did It All Go wrong?
15. Gas Panic!
16. The Hindu Times
17. Stop Crying Your Heart Out
18. Songbird
19. Little By Little
20. Lyla
21. The Importance of Being Idle
22. Let There Be Love
23. Love Like A Bomb
24. Shock of the Lightning
25. Falling Down
26. The turning
27. Outta Time

No wonder they now OWN the UK record for consecutive top ten singles, beating out some band that begins with a “b” and ends in an “s”.

Not to mention a laundry-list of b-sides that bands like Greenday could make a career out of.

Nearly every great big band reveres them: U2, Coldplay, the Killers, arctic monkeys, etc. I wonder why that is?

Only one country in the world never “got them”, the US. I wonder why that is?

Whether they ever write another song or not, their legacy is already cemented- certainly noel’s anyway. No better songwriter in the last 30 years.

Thanks for music I can proudly pass down to my kids- and shenanigans I’d rather not.

stinertime | 10/13/2009, 2:59 pm EST

versedandvested, 27 songs doesn’t do them justice.

1. Slide Away
2. Cigarettes and Alcohol
3. Married with children
4. Fade Away
5. Wonderwall
6. Some Might Say
7. Cast No Shadow
8. She’s Electric
9. My Big Mouth
10. I Hope, I Think, I Know
11. Girl In The Dirty Shirt
12. It’s Gettin Better Man
13. Fuckin in the bushes
14. Who Feels Love
15. I can see a liar
16. Roll it Over
17. Heart of a star
18. She is Love
19. Lord Don’t Slow me down
20. Turn up the Sun
21. Meaning of Soul
22. Guess god thinks I’m abel
23. A bell will ring
24. Waiting for the rapture
25. Bag it up
26. To be where there’s life
27. Record machine

bonus: Cloudburst, eyeball tickler, it’s good to be free, listen up, the masterplan.

The star that shines twice as bright lives half as long. So true of Oasis. Thanks for the memories.

Steve | 10/13/2009, 7:57 pm EST

There’s a high possiblity that both Liam and Noel will go on to form quite successful bands and even release good if not great albums without eachother. Personally I think this hatefest they brew up could light a fire under both of them and give them some passion for the first time in over 10 years. I’m predicting right here and right now (this is not including Noel’s solo album that he’ll inevitably make)that they’ll both form bands and put out the best material either of them has done since WTSMG and the tabloid frenzy of Noel vs. Liam will be huge. At least in the UK.

Oasis | 10/14/2009, 12:02 pm EST

Oasis: You either got them or you didn’t. You were either offended by their arrogance or took it as the tongue in cheek humour that it was. Relevant? Oasis were always relevant just not in America and I think that’s a good thing. The only ‘relevant’ rock and roll bands (ie rock bands that sell records) in the US today are middle class non-threatening teenagers like the Jonas Brothers, Paramore and Nickelback (who are unfortunately Canadian but still huge in the US). My Morning Jacket etc are good bands but don’t exactly sell a lot of records or play to that many people compared to an ‘irrelevant’ oasis who sold out MSG and still sell millions of records around the world (just not in America). If there’s one lone exception to this it’s Kings of Leon but that’s only because they started writing catchy melodic songs (a la Oasis/U2/Coldplay). Oasis never played the game. They never went around pretending to be humble, kissing babies and being complimentary to artists they hated. If you asked Oasis an honest question you’d get an honest answer. It didn’t matter who they offended or what it did to their career, they’d rather be real than fake and that’s rock and roll. But above it all are the songs. What’s the Story may have been a creative peak but they did set the bar very high so that even when subsequent albums didn’t match it they were still quality. D’You Know What I Mean? Don’t Go Away, Go Let it Out, Gas Panic, Where Did it All Go Wrong?”, Songbird, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Lyla, Turn up the Sun, Let There Be Love, Importance of Being Idle, Shock of the Lightning, I’m Outta Time, Falling Down…download any of those and they are pure quality. I’ll miss real rock swagger and real rock tunes. I won’t miss snobby idiots who can’t handle honesty or real music when they hear it.

Fools of the Concensus Reality | 10/14/2009, 1:36 pm EST

Wow…I always get a kick out of trolling ye old Rolling Stone message boards and hearing all y’all argue vehemently about pop culture tenets. Enlightenment and Oasis fandom are directly oppossed. I was in to this stuff when I was…13 years old? I’ve grown up. They never did. It’s all been bunk.

Musically, Oasis are one of the MOST unoriginal bands ever. This is not challenging or interesting music WHATSOEVER. If you believe it is, that’s fine I suppose, but I don’t think an Oasis fan could possibly understand the first thing about music. If you can play a beginner guitar book, you can play Oasis. It’s one of the ways I learned guitar — Morning Glory note for note. Now all those patterns seems so boring. Comparisons to the Beatles ARE NOT relevant…in some way, the Beatles have influenced almost every band making any music coming from the rock & roll world due to trickle down influence.

What’s this over-riding faith in “rock & roll swagger,” etc…the glory of the ’90s…revival of British rock. None of that sounds like it has a single thing to do with MUSIC. Image, history, etc…whatever.

Just as INXS is almost completely forgotten now, so will Oasis except by a few ignorant stalwarts (and you are a few) who have not matured beyond their formative years and for some damned reason thing being a screwed up douch is art some how.

Must say when I heard I was gutted at the thought I may never hear another Oasis album rip the charts up again, but look at it from a different perspective, it’s going to be interesting to see how they cope individually or with different musicians because in my opinion Noel and Liam vocally and musically complemented each others strengths when they were playing so bring on the solo efforts, in the meantime… Ian Browns new album.. what a fucking ledgend!!

INXS | 10/14/2009, 7:17 pm EST

and…INXS

zelma | 10/14/2009, 7:51 pm EST

last true rock band my ass -_-

Noel Fucking Gallagher | 10/14/2009, 8:15 pm EST

Oasis is my favorite band right now, they probably wont be for the rest of my life, but im ok with that… They were a true rock and roll band, they but their stuff out there and if you didnt like it they didnt give a shit. Luckily for them many mant people, myself included, thought they were brilliant. Poeple will say that oasis was overhyped, but to me those people can piss off. they’re songs were special becasue they were simple, and they connected with everyday life. every time i hear different oasis songs they make me think of different things and i really like that. Sure Radiohead and the Verve may make more complex music, but they will never be able to make music that connects with people like oasis did. (unless of course you are a depressed burn out, in which case Radiohead is perfect for your life).

Oasis- thank you for the good times.

Dave | 10/14/2009, 10:11 pm EST

The fact is that most people are most attached to the music that somes out in their generation than anything that comes after. Like my parents loved 70’s music I love the 90’s. For a certain demographic Oasis were IT.

All I know is that I am glad to be of an age where Oasis was my passion. They will be missed by millions. They will go down in Rock ‘n Roll history because they were loved, they were exciting, and they were interesting. And all the bad press and sour grapes in the world won’t change that.

Leigh Armstrong | 10/15/2009, 2:34 pm EST

Oasis & INXS – two of my favourite recording & live bands ever!! Thank you for the Music!!

Sam | 10/16/2009, 3:40 am EST

Ahh…Leigh Armstrong…How sweet!

We should all take a page from her book!

BlueJay | 10/16/2009, 5:16 am EST

haha, Im Australian and I agree that INXS should shoves boomerangs up their asses and fuck kangaroos as well!!! haha

As for Oasis, they get about as much attention here in Aus than INXS does. And considering INXS are an Aus band youd expect them to get more but they dont, highlighting Oasis’ international prominence.

True Oasis have scaled down in recent years, but if their last 5 albums had been released by an unknown band they would all be heavily praised. Its just the weight of expectation that brings them down. Say what you like, but it is very hard to write 2 classic albums in DM and WTSMG, and very few bands can do it. Bands like coldplay are good in that they consistently create GOOD albums, but none of them are CLASSIC albums that will stand the test of time like Oasis’ first two have and will.

As for Oasis’ legacy, they were the LAST true great Rock and Roll band. They had a magnitude of fan-worship not seen since the beatles and very very few bands can reach the heights of ultimate superstardom as they did in the 90s, and have 2.5 million people apply for tickets for a single live show. Their prominince and what they meant to such a large amount of people in the mid 90s as been unparalleled since and it is unlikely that for a very-long time a band will reach their heights. Sure Green Day, chili peppers and coldplay were more consistent in selling records but their peaks were nowhere near Oasis’. It has been described that 1 in 4 households in Britain own a copy of the Morning Glory Album, in no other country are you able to say that. They were able to sell out wembley stadium 3 times in 2009, 15 years after their peak!!!!! showing that their footprint and mark on the music industry has hardly deteriated at all. They were true Rock and Roll superstars, and it may be a long time before we see a band as big as them again.

stu | 10/17/2009, 6:14 am EST

oh joy!!!! it so depressing 2 trawl thro this n see plp who clearly hate oasis needing 2 slag them.why are ur lives so empty that u have 2 spill ur bile on band u hate.if i cant stand a band i just ignore them, oasis were are and always will be 1 of the best bands england have produced.and its such a fuckin shame they gone.

INXS | 10/18/2009, 8:10 am EST

INXS = 30+YEARS

OASIS = FINISHED

HAHA..

THE END

LoopGuru | 10/18/2009, 11:34 am EST

Oh my God… Oasis gone? Next you’ll be telling me that Melissa Etheridge is returning to raw rock! Wake me up when something really happens.

INXS 30+ years? | 10/19/2009, 4:32 pm EST

COME ON! Who honestly think that the new line-up of INXS actually qualifies as INXS? It’s just the remaining members trying to cash-in (unsuccessfully) on their former glories. Michael Hutchence was WAY too instrumental in INXS’ fame and success for them to just go on without him. I don’t care that the rest of the band preformed live with various singers. They didn’t release an album for over 8 years until 2005 after that sorry excuse for a Reality Talent search…and that album flopped! INXS have been over for AGES!

INXS only really lasted 1979-1997. 18 years.

Oasis lasted 1991-2009. 18 years.

HAHA

THE END

rwt | 10/21/2009, 8:29 pm EST

The UK’s last great rock band. It’s rough, not too many bands selling out stadiums anymore.

Gutted | 10/22/2009, 4:55 am EST

Great Rock ‘n Roll band.

I’m gonna miss them. They were a breath of fresh air in the 90’s and have remained so all these years.

Screw fads. Oasis existed and thrived longer than any fad.

Blur, Pulp and Suede may have been good bands…but people lost interest when Britpop went out of style regardless of how clever they tried to be. Oasis maintained a massive following in Britain and around the world for 15 years.

Oasis will LIVE FOREVER!

stu | 10/23/2009, 8:42 am EST

2 inxs i repeat when were inxs last relevant 2 any1 apart from obviously u.oasis consistantly released successfull records, even their last album dig out your soul sold hundreds of thousands here in england.all their gigs sold out instantly, and u only need to look at their offical website 2 see comments from plp all over the world literally,to see how much love there is for this band

INXS? | 10/31/2009, 7:14 pm EST

God…I haven’t heard about them in ages. Even if you think that Oasis breaking up was irrelevant to Rock ‘n Roll (first of all people are stupid to think that…they were a great British band!) then even you must admit that a band like INXS breaking up would be infinitely LESS relevant. Not just in America…but everywhere….I’ll bet it wouldn’t even get reported in most magezine or papers.

@ the very least Noel leaving Oasis and Oasis splitting up generated headlines around the world and any music magazine worth anything @ all ran a story about it.

VIVA NOEL | 11/4/2009, 2:30 pm EST

Noel is the best, you have a great future.

Elanoel | 11/4/2009, 10:06 pm EST

Since people here are often citing Radiohead as an example of a better band than Oasis, I’d like to say this:
I love Radiohead, great band.
I appreciate some of Oasis’ songs don’t have much intellectual weight behind them and many aren’t technically brilliant pieces of music.
However, Noel Gallagher said more to me about my life in ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ than Thom Yorke will ever do.
Thanks for the memories.

Hawthorne | 11/7/2009, 9:50 am EST

Why do the Brits think they invented Rock ‘n’ Roll?
And, why do they love that Beatles cover band so much?

My girl says, speaking vaginally,
just looking at a pic of Hutchence from INXS is better than listening to Oasis.

stu | 11/9/2009, 4:44 am EST

oh lmfao ur so funny hawthorne, yet another example of an ignorant idiot.cant u be more origanal,y do all u oasis haters come out with same shit???????

INXS | 11/9/2009, 8:42 pm EST

By the middle of 2002 INXS returned to the international concert arena with the band playing in South, Central and North America on a full scale tour with an overwhelming response and the band re-igniting interest from fans and media. Shows throughout Europe followed and multiple trips to Latin America which included headlining the huge Vina Del Mar Festival in Chile in 2003, broadcast to a global audience of 180 million

INXS died in 1997 | 11/16/2009, 3:22 pm EST

Really…you think that INXS circa 2003 reignited the worlds love for INXS?

They didn’t even have a new record out @ the time. It was a nostalgia/cash-in tour.

INXS should have died with Michael Hutchence in 1997.

I feel the same way about Aerosmith continuing.

Good on Oasis for not trying to cash in on the bands legacy after one of its iconic members left. Wish INXS would have taken the same chance.

Anon | 11/16/2009, 5:51 pm EST

Im a big Oasis fan, but even i have to admit, they peaked with Definetely Maybe and Morning Glory. Nothing they have done since has come close. Its sad they have split, but this was a band running out of ideas. Maybe its better than carrying on and becoming rock dinosaurs, who just release any old crap as an excuse to tour.
Im sure solo albums will follow. But unless they can both come up with new musical directions, i cant see much appetite for it. Get ready for the inevitable reunion in a couple of years.
Yay i made a post and didnt mention Australian pop rockers INXS, oh bugger :P
