Lady Gaga, Kanye West’s “Fame Kills” Tour Killed By Poor Sales?

Speculation as to why Lady Gaga and Kanye West’s “Fame Kills” tour was killed has begun, and TMZ has already shot out a few theories that start with sluggish early numbers. Ticket sales “sucked,” to point where ” ’sucked’ happens to be a nicer version of the word,” TMZ writes, adding Gaga’s and West’s people were allegedly “at each others throats like their last names were Gosselin” and that Gaga reportedly wanted to bring The Fame Monster and her steady rotation of outrageous outfits to smaller venues than the hockey arenas the tour planned on playing. The official word from Lady Gaga, though, is it was a “mutual decision,” Billboard reports. Gaga said West is going to take time off, and she’ll be embarking on a solo jaunt in several weeks.

See Lady Gaga’s wildest looks.

Considering Kanye’s “Glow in the Dark” tour was sold out and Gaga’s star is on the rise, it’s hard to believe ticket sales were that poor. However, in the case of the “Fame Kills” stop at New York’s Nassau Coliseum, plenty of general admission tickets were still available hours after they went on presale. In fact, Ticketmaster’s listing for the Nassau Coliseum show is still active, and GA tickets are widely available.

Of course, there’s a fairly obvious reason for slow ticket sales: the wave of anti-Kanye sentiment that washed across the country when West stole the spotlight from Taylor Swift at MTV’s Video Music Awards on September 13th. When Rolling Stone initially revealed the Fame Kills tour dates, the presale date listed on some of the concerts was just two days after the Swift incident.

Relive the 2009 VMAs in photos.

All the negative press surrounding Kanye delayed the presale date, and Live Nation information started to disappear from the Web as many questioned if the tour was off. Then came that strange, NSFW promo clip and assurances that Fame Kills wasn’t dead and ticket did go on sale.

Following the Swift debacle and its fallout, West went on The Jay Leno Show to apologize and say he wanted to take some time off, only to officially announce the “Fame Kills” tour days later. Whether West’s desire to take a hiatus played a role in snuffing the “Fame Kills” tour is unclear. Gaga was also reportedly disappointed in West following his display at the VMAs, but there’s no evidence at this point whether that put the brakes on “Fame Kills.” So far, West has not supplied any all-caps explanations over at his official blog.

According to Making the Band star Laurie Ann Gibson, who says she was doing Lady Gaga’s choreography for the tour, “Fame Kills” was canceled over “creative differences,” she wrote on her Twitter. Gibson also insinuates that Gaga still had a rehearsal yesterday, despite the tour’s cancellation, and that our Hot Diva might be planning her own trek. When word of the tour first broke, West had insisted the two would be collaborating onstage (“She’s talented and so incredible that she’s not an opening act. We’re doing it together, with no opening act”), so it’s possible the pair did run into problems as ideas developed. Gaga is still hard at work, though: earlier this week, she told Rolling Stone about the new tracks she was working up for the tour, and Dr. Dre hinted the two could be collaborating on a song soon.

While “creative differences” are being cited, our own comment section also blames the high price of tickets for the “Fame Kills” tour as a potential reason why the ticket sales “sucked.” After surcharges, tickets for general admission were about $150, and VIP tickets were $500.

Just for the record, apparently it isn’t Kanye himself who does those all caps blog posts, but man, it sure is fun to imagine that it is.

Jon P | 10/2/2009, 9:49 am EST

I wouldn’t be surprised. The prices were ABSURD! It would have cost about $160 a ticket for GA in Chicago. $160! I paid like $80 for U2. I’m sorry but that’s just poor planning.

Just because you have two big artists, doesn’t mean you can jack the price up that much. That’s like a 30% increase over Glow in the Dark if I recall which was already very, very expensive.

FREDDY | 10/2/2009, 9:57 am EST

KANYE WOULD HAVE TO PAY ME TO GO TO ONE OF HIS SHOWS…..LOSER

Dennis in Dallas | 10/2/2009, 10:09 am EST

i am glad. kanya thinks his **** don’t stink and the world owes him.
wake up LOSER you don’t desaerve to be seen or heard

Ray Ray | 10/2/2009, 10:13 am EST

No kidding? Two supposed artists that place a higher value on publicity than musical/artistic substance can’t tour because of lack of interest? What a revelation!

Lady Gaga and Kanye are both literally clowns. The circus would suit them.

Lara | 10/2/2009, 10:16 am EST

Oh give me a break, don’t make the MTV outburst an excuse for poor sales….it’s the greed of the artists, promoters, management, labels, who set the ticket prices that are to blame. Does anyone care that people just can’t afford these ridiculous ticket prices? Seriously…..wake the f*@#k up- Come back down out of the clouds…make it affordable for 2 people to go to a show. Then maybe your attendance would be better-

Cathryn | 10/2/2009, 10:19 am EST

I went to Glow in the Dark. It was good, but the ticket prices were already really high. Jacking it up that much…I don’t know. It couldn’t have helped.

Benson | 10/2/2009, 10:19 am EST

A couple of no-talent hacks…
We’ll forget all about them both in 20 years.

Kanye who?

Pants | 10/2/2009, 10:22 am EST

I went to a show on the Glow in the Dark tour. Left halfway through. Kanye absolutely SUCKED.

ann | 10/2/2009, 10:24 am EST

Same here..I want to see Gaga.. not Kanye.. I would pay for her, but never as much as those outstanding prices.

Tab Dolan | 10/2/2009, 10:26 am EST

SERIOUSLY A $160.00 Dollars for tickets. Thats Just To Much.
There not worth it.

yawn

Charles | 10/2/2009, 10:29 am EST

Kanye’s ego outstrips his actual talent by such a large margin that it’s not even funny. Plus he’s turning people off in droves by his stupid antics. I’m not suprised they cancelled. Lady Gaga would be better off touring on her own.

justsomeguyonthenet | 10/2/2009, 10:29 am EST

y’all sound like a bunch of sissys.

‘Get a job.’?

WTF do you think producing music is?

Should everyone in the entertainment business ‘Get a Job’? Including Rolling Stone employees?

How about all the roadies of the world? Should they ‘Get a Job’ as well?

For those who swear not to be a fan…why do you care? Must be a bunch of simple haters.

Kick rocks.

Wizzard | 10/2/2009, 10:30 am EST

West is a no good brat at best for what he did. I won’t think of going to see him.

Davo | 10/2/2009, 10:36 am EST

Lady GaGa’s on SNL this weekend. Should be fun. I might pay to see her in a concert, especially in a smaller venue where you could actually SEE her.

Kanye, on the other hand, can suck it.

A.C. | 10/2/2009, 10:38 am EST

The tickets were EXPENSIVE! I really wanted to go, but who can afford $120+ just to sit in the balcony? I’m glad it’s cancelled, now they can go out separately and lower the prices.

jeff | 10/2/2009, 10:39 am EST

“It would have cost about $160 a ticket for GA in Chicago. $160!”

Exactly. And the fact that Kayne has now made a complete clown of himself doesn’t help. Who would pay $160 to see a clown?

me | 10/2/2009, 10:40 am EST

it’s funny how ridiculous ppl are being about this. Everything overshadows what we should actually be paying for – ENTERTAINMENT! I can’t think of two talents I would rather see collide on a stage. I’m actually pretty upset by this. Putting personal opinions about the general individuals aside… it would’ve been a good show. one thing for certain is that we spend so much time criticizing these individuals and investing negativity into them that they will in NO WAY be done for in 20 years. Like it or not – they are markers of our time.

John | 10/2/2009, 10:42 am EST

Something strange about news sources reporting that no one gives a damn about something.

pedro | 10/2/2009, 10:43 am EST

Looking forward to Kanye’s bankruptcy filing. It might teach him to have some manners and to keep his mouth shut.

shockhollywood | 10/2/2009, 10:47 am EST

Gaga may be worth paying to go see but Kanye isn’t even worth downloading illegally. But I have been of this mindset before he proved what I thought was correct about him at the MTV Awards. Whatever -

Pingi | 10/2/2009, 10:48 am EST

-laughs- I love this <3 and agree with it :)

zO | 10/2/2009, 10:50 am EST

I would pay $160 to see Kanye. You guys are missing the picture here, that he is one of the greatest performers of our time. He gives you a show regardless of how arrogant he is. He does this for his fans and the people who listens to his music. And the last time I checked Kanye is still regarded as the voice of this generation. Oh and yeah, I love Lady Gaga, so I am dissapointed that the concert is cancelled!!!

wtf | 10/2/2009, 10:53 am EST

kanye who, again?

justsomeguyonthenet | 10/2/2009, 10:53 am EST

brokenhumanity | 10/2/2009, 10:55 am EST

“yawn” best comment so far; when making fun of you is more entertaining than watching you, you need to start doing taco bell commercials.

what do they think we are?
$160 to see 2 idiots?

ANITA | 10/2/2009, 11:02 am EST

I PD ABOUT 250 FOR 3 TIX. TICKET PRICES WERE A LITTLE HIGH FIGURING IM NOT A HUGE KANYE FAN I WAS ONLY GOIN TO SEE LADY GAGA. YET I BOUGHT MY TIX THE DAY BEFORE THE CANCELATION IM DISAPPONTED CUZ I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING LADY GAGA!

who considers Kanye the voice of his generation?? I sure as **** don’t

Being Pimp | 10/2/2009, 11:13 am EST

Buy the Cd and stop being PIMPED. I have never seen or heard anyone singing I would pay more that $40.00. I refuse to help buy anyone a $2. million dollars house and I live in a apartment.

Carbonari | 10/2/2009, 11:14 am EST

I wonder if the fact that Kanye is a huge tool and everyone is tired of his antics had something to do with this.

Dale | 10/2/2009, 11:16 am EST

Kan ye just go away!

daniel | 10/2/2009, 11:17 am EST

Lady WahWah’s act is boring – not much talent, dumb songs, a terrible singer and dancer, her 15 mins are almost up …

I like Kanye though – too bad he’s a chump …

Kanye West | 10/2/2009, 11:18 am EST

Why did i go up on that stage? Why?! I f**ked up…bigtime!

frog leg | 10/2/2009, 11:42 am EST

their both attention whores so they probably argued over who would headline and neither one of them wanted to be the opening act. yes boys and girls, fame sure as hell does kill.

Ariel | 10/2/2009, 11:48 am EST

I’m pretty upset by the cancellation of the tour. I payed the $152 for general admission to the show in Houston. Two of my friends also payed $152 each. We don’t like Kanye, but we love Lady Gaga, and lets face it, from the sounds of things, it was supposed to be a mega awesome concert. Dueling on stage and everything. Sounds legit. Now I’m just gonna save that $152, and wait for the solo tour. :D

Michelle | 10/2/2009, 11:58 am EST

Could it be the ticket prices? Could it be Kanye’s attitude? Could it be gaga’s lack of talent? I think if you add them all up you might have your answer.

Kanye | 10/2/2009, 12:00 pm EST

Sorry Kanye and Gaga, I like you and I am going to let you finish, but Michael Jackson had the greatest concert cancellation of all time!

Joanie | 10/2/2009, 12:01 pm EST

I live in Kansas City and any night of the week I can walk into any number of establishments and hear fantastic music of all genras, performed by outstanding professional musicans for FREE! too many REALLY talented muscians out there playing for peanuts to waste $160 on no talents wearing funny masks and bad attitudes.

nofan | 10/2/2009, 12:37 pm EST

Lady Gaga looks like she could be had for $160.00 an hour.

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 12:38 pm EST

Gaga can’t sing live. She’s horrible. I’ve never seen Kayne so I don’t know but he seems like an asshole so why pay him?

NICK | 10/2/2009, 12:44 pm EST

lady gaga just announced a solo tour with details coming in a few weeks.

Sarah | 10/2/2009, 12:45 pm EST

I’ve never seen ticket prices that high for any concert I’ve been to and I’ve been to a lot. It’s disgusting they want people to pay $250 to see two mediocre acts in this day and age.

laugh | 10/2/2009, 12:53 pm EST

kanye west couldn’t pay me 160 to go to his show. yawn

BlackNeckcuzitdontturnred | 10/2/2009, 12:59 pm EST

Ksnye messed around with the wrong white chick by upstaging Taylor Swift. I’ve never heard any of her songs, but I did hear that she is good friends with Miley Cyrus. These chicks are backed by monster music corporations and don’t take likely to some hippity hop buffoonery while their artist is getting promo. Now Kanye is considered a risk in the industry and will be subject to media attacks. This will cost him money, fans and friends. He will be beaten around in the media like Prince and Brittany Spears until it drives him mad. He will cut off all his hair and finally submit to the industry. This is what happens when you get uppity in the music game. Lady Gaga was smart to jump ship, like Jay Z parted ways when R-Kelly got busted. She needs to link up with artist who are on the up and right now that is not Kanye. I could see her making moves with Young Money or Jay Z anybody but Kanye right now. If Kanye or your people do read this, I think it’s time to give back a little. How about a concert that is affordable and add a fundraiser or a cause like health care. Do a “I care -heath care hip hop tour”. Give people free check ups at the concert, anything because right now you are under attack. Bush did not care that you told the truth about how he feels. But Taylor Swifts people do! Goodluck!

Keep it truthful | 10/2/2009, 1:01 pm EST

Kanye is still rich as hell and will continue to make great music, I think the vma thing was blown a little too far, peolpe act as if he slapped the young lady

I do think race plays a BIGGGGGGGG part of why this is still going on because if that was eminem who had made those comments nobody would care lol

plus if it had been a white artist who interupted beyonce he woulda got sapped lol then if he made an apology it would have been SETTLED no big deal, it wouldnt have been this much of a fuss over some lil country singer.

the media did the same shit to michael jackson when he was alive, made fun of the poor man till the day he died, now they trying to crucify kanye.

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 1:04 pm EST

What killed it? Had to be her ugly ass face.

chump | 10/2/2009, 1:20 pm EST

Ticketmaster is keeping the $87 worth of processing fees I was charged for the tickets I bought. Way to stick it to the fans!

Huh | 10/2/2009, 1:21 pm EST

$160 to see two complete no-talents. And add the fact that one of the no-talents is a completely classless jerk. No wonder they can’t sell tickets. Maybe America is wising up a bit.

BlackNeckcuzitdontturnred | 10/2/2009, 1:22 pm EST

I didn’t mention MJ (RIP) who took it hardest because Kanye is no where close to MJ. I apologize for using Kanye and MJ in a sentence twice!

Tiffany | 10/2/2009, 1:30 pm EST

No matter what, I wouldn’t pay $150 for general admission tickets. Ticket prices have skyrocketed over the past few years and it’s getting out of hand. I can still remember the day when I could walk into a Tower Records store and buy a concert ticket for about $30. I miss those good old days.

Kanye is over! | 10/2/2009, 1:37 pm EST

INSTANT KARMA.

American people will not take any more shit from Kanye.

I bet you Lady Ga Ga solo tour will be a hit.

Gaga | 10/2/2009, 1:42 pm EST

I saw Gaga open for NKOTB and she was great live! I had thought about going to the Kanye Gaga concert until Kanye’s episode with Taylor…nope won’t spend money to support a guy like that..even though it would’ve been great to see Gaga and him together.

Jungleland2 | 10/2/2009, 1:57 pm EST

The days of paying more than $90 for a concert ticket are over. I had zero interest in this tour, but really any concert that is $90+ is just too much money.

I think you will see more shows like this fall apart on ticket sales, then acts will figure out how to make a $50 a ticket tour work (and don’t say it can’t be done)

heathen2002 | 10/2/2009, 2:05 pm EST

Karma’s a bitch, ain’t it Kanye?

Franky GaGa ;] | 10/2/2009, 2:08 pm EST

i was looking forward to having a set date to see GaGa, but seeing her withOUT Kanye West involves makes this a bit better. Now i just have to wait for her tour

Coby | 10/2/2009, 2:36 pm EST

Kanye is so full of himself and so disconnected from the way people actually percieve him. I think his career ended when somebody made him believe he could sing. That’s the good thing about rappers, you can always count on their careers being short…unless they go into acting or the fashion industry. Gaga, I couldn’t care less about, she swears she’s the next Madonna. Seriously, fame deludes before it kills you.

xxx | 10/2/2009, 2:44 pm EST

Um, no. Most of the dates weren’t even on sale.

Silly | 10/2/2009, 2:50 pm EST

I’ve never seen people get so angry about such a little thing. People still act like Kanye shot someone or had odd relations with little children.

He was rude, apologized get over it. Get off your high-horse. You people act like you’ve NEVER done anything inappropriate your ENTIRE life. Really get over it and get off your high horse.

Pro Audio guy | 10/2/2009, 3:00 pm EST

I was one of the unfortunates that stood through Kanye’s antics last year at Bonnaroo, and all I can say is never again for him…

FUCK KANYE and the horse he rode in on!

Lady GAGa? A singer famous not for her music or talent, but for her fashion. Lady GAGA? I bet she doesn’t even swallow !! At those ticket prices she should be inviting audience members back to her hotel room after the gig.

Greg | 10/2/2009, 3:13 pm EST

“Creative differences!?” Don’t you need to be creative before you can have differences about it? Van Morrison is already 64 years old, and I promise you he will be delivering creative music long after these two hacks have been tossed on the scrap heap.

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 3:13 pm EST

I can’t wait for her to go away.

Sama'an | 10/2/2009, 3:23 pm EST

$160 for a ticket is absolutely ridiculous, but, please, don’t sound like an idiot and say Kanye has no talent, or will be forgotten about in 20 years.

Kanye is one of the greatest producers of all time, he has shown us that sampling can be art. Not since Paul’s Boutique has a producer been able to take samples and create a whole new sound. P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, whatever you want to call him, doesn’t evens sample half the time– he just takes a song and has someone rap over it.

Kanye has shown us the beauty of a sample, not to mention he teamed up with Jon Brion for Late Registration, and that’s one of the best albums EVER of any genre.

What Kanye does outside of the studio has nothing to do with his genius inside of the studio.

So, if you’re going to try to convince me that Kanye has no talent…please, get real. The man is a genius, but, like many geniuses, he seems to have big problems outside his field of genius.

Z | 10/2/2009, 3:29 pm EST

Let’s face it: the only people who are upset about Kanye’s antics probably never bought one of his CDs. It’s not like he interrupted the President during a nationally televised speech or disrupted Taylor Swift’s funeral. I don’t understand why his outburst was such an issue. Isn’t this what you expect from Kanye? There are more important things happening in this world that cause a lot more pain than hurting a teenager’s feelings. Besides, it was the MTV Video Music Awards. Everyone needs to chill out.

soCALLmeAhata | 10/2/2009, 3:32 pm EST

I wouldnt buy his tickets if someone payed me too! his fame as been killed by his attitude! do u think that just cuz ur tour has sold out before that u can be an a-hole and think people will have the same respect for you as a person or an artist?! so wrong!

Cerebus | 10/2/2009, 3:40 pm EST

Kanye is a decent producer, has a decent flow and writes decent rhymes – that’s all I have to say about that side of Kanye. The other side – the out of control ego side – has been around FOREVER! I don’t know how it is that THIS is the one thing that turned people against Ye as a person. Those issues with him as a human being have stopped me from being able to really enjoy his music for years. He’s sh*t all over tons of people. He’s proclaimed himself better while putting others down too many times to count. And it’s not the first time that he’s pouted about Mtv, who are in fact the people that broke him as an artist (not a producer – but as an “artist”). There is a huge difference between boasting and battling on a record, or even beefing in the press, and just plain believing that you are above everyone else. He’s not, and it’s far past time that he was brought down a few pegs.

Cerebus | 10/2/2009, 3:43 pm EST

Lady who? Sign of the times, people. Sign of the times. Marketing, marketing and more marketing. Huge out the gates – gone in a couple years.

WTH? | 10/2/2009, 4:06 pm EST

YES, Kanye may be an asshole but talentless?

Kanye is one of the best producers in hip hop. Just look at his work. Talking shit about who he is as a person while disregarding the amazing music he’s produced only makes YOU look as ignorant as you claim Kanye is.

Poor Taylor Swift and her VMA award. I mean, COME ON. It’s a VMA award. There are plenty of people to feel sorry for besides a 17 year old multi-millionaire white girl who in all honesty did not deserve to win.

yes, kanye made a dick move and there’s no excuse but as a performer and an artist producing tracks for Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Janet Jackson… the one thing you CAN’T question is his talent.

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 4:22 pm EST

Better shows at your local strip club.

Kristen | 10/2/2009, 4:27 pm EST

I gotta say, the hating on Kanye is really ridiculous at this point. Yeah, I like Taylor Swift and what he did at the VMA’s was a dick move. But I’m also a huge fan of his music, I think that he is an artist – he does a lot more than samples and autotune – listen to 808’s and Heartbreak you f*cking losers, it was brilliant. Not to mention College Dropout which is one of the best hip-hop LPs in history. You are all uninformed. He may be an asshole but that doesn’t mean he’s not talented. Lady Gaga on the other hand is garbage. I’d gladly pay for a ticket when Kanye is paired up with someone that is a little closer to his league. Peace!

Tee | 10/2/2009, 4:33 pm EST

If those prices are for real, then that’s what killed the tour. GA $150…..puleeze!

Kristen | 10/2/2009, 4:36 pm EST

Re: Coby | 10/2/2009, 2:36 pm EST

“That’s the good thing about rappers, you can always count on their careers being short…unless they go into acting or the fashion industry.”

Are you F*CKING SERIOUS? Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Nas, all been in the business 10-20 years and still relevant! Whether they have acted, have a clothing line or not it’s the music that keeps them in the game. You know nothing about the rap industry… ugh. You can’t count on rappers’ short-lived careers any more than any other genre of music.

The truth about kanye | 10/2/2009, 4:40 pm EST

If Kanye is as talented as some of you are saying why does he need “auto-tune” to “sing”? Why did he have to steal “Diamonds are Forever” to write his “Blood Diamonds”? Name one piece of genuine music that the guy has created!

Kanye has no originality or musical ability; his “talent” is making a bunch of people who know nothing about music defend him for his “genius”. You’ve all just exposed yourselves for the idiots you are.

Unknown | 10/2/2009, 4:45 pm EST

DAMN LADY GAGA IS UGLY.

Cerebus | 10/2/2009, 4:45 pm EST

Of course you can question his talent! You can question anything you like. And art of any kind is so subjective, with so many disparate concepts to consider before expressing an opinion (i.e., some people just don’t like hip-hop, metal, jazz, etc. – doesn’t matter who it is). Kanye has produced some great tracks. Classics, even. But he’s also repeated himself about 1000 times. That’s why 808 and Heartbreaks was such a nice surprise. And a talented assh*ole is still an assh*ole – which makes listening to his music unenjoyable (for me, anyway). Let’s flip it – what if Beyonce had won and Taylor Swift bum-rushed her acceptance speech? How much damage would it have done to her career? I’m not sure it’s even quantifiable. Kanye’s egotistical, brattish behavior has been brushed off as unimportant too many times. It’s important. And taking some time off to reflect on just how lucky he is could do him some good in the humility department. But I doubt that will ever happen. He’ll go down with the ship talkin’ smack about how it’s everybody else holding him down.

some guy | 10/2/2009, 5:03 pm EST

Kanye’s claim to fame is taking music made by actual artists and dumming it down for the lowest common denominator of taste.

BluGibble | 10/2/2009, 5:29 pm EST

Jon Brion, now there’s a talented completely unknown musician!
Good old USA makeing Gods out of Kanye, and Beyonce and the Jonas Brothers while completely ignoring true geniuses like Jeff Buckley, Kevin Gilbert, Elliot Smith, Jason Falkner, Umphrey’s McGee, etc. etc. These are true diamonds, many of them no longer with us. Their talent almost completely unrecognized if only but for a few.

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 6:04 pm EST

Jon Brion is far from unknown. He’s scored many great films, and his weekly residence at Largo in Los Angeles is always packed.

Shawn | 10/2/2009, 6:14 pm EST

Gaga and Kanye both have talent in different ways, but Gaga is more versatile, plus shes not a duoche like Kanye. What a shame for this tour. It probably would have been pretty good

Black Hole Sun | 10/2/2009, 6:32 pm EST

High ticket prices combined with Kanye’s recent antics cost this tour to be canceled. But what I don’t get is why people needed to see Kanye yank a mic out of Taylor Swift’s hand during her acceptance at the VMAs to realize how much of a douche he is. He did this at the 2006 EMAS. He bitched and moaned about losing Best New Artist at the 2004 American Music Awards. He bitched and moaned when he didn’t win a single award at the 2007 VMAs. He bitched and moaned YET AGAIN at the 2008 Grammys WHEN HE WON. And let’s not forget the fiasco that occurred at Bonnaroo last year. What occurred last month was not the final straw for me. I wrote off this prick AGES AGO. And what’s worse, he is so marginally talented that he doesn’t even merit such an ego. If the guy was actually exceptionally talented, at LEAST it would be easier to just bite my lower lip and put up with SOME, not all, some of his crap if it meant he would put out great music in return. But that’s not the case. I don’t understand why people brand him a “genius”. What’s so genius about him? He can’t sing without Auto-Tune, can’t play an instrument, his rapping isn’t anything special, I mean Jay-Z easily wipes the floor with him, and his producing consists of taking 30-year-old songs and putting beats on them. Oh yeah, and his live performances are nothing if there aren’t bunch of flashy lights to mesmerize an audience. So again, where’s the genius? Same for Lady Gaga, people brand her a “genius” as well, she’s nothing more than a blatant ripoff of Madonna, mixed with some David Bowie and Freddie Mercury, but with none of their talent. She can’t have people talking about her if she isn’t wearing skimpy outfits and doing stupid outrageous stuff onstage. She’s a gimmick. There’s nothing authentic about her. At all. But people are too dumb to see that. And that’s why the tour, even with Lady Gaga solo, will still be successful. If Kanye didn’t do what he did at the VMAs, then this post wouldn’t even exist. Two of the most overrated artists of the decade.

alltime | 10/2/2009, 6:34 pm EST

I was really looking forward to the show but even though they’re both big artists, seeing the price of tiekets and them trying to sell out big sport arena venues, its no surprise the ticket sales we’re slow. This is likely the main reason they had to cancel, yes they have fans, but not enough to fill arenas in all those cities at that price.

Will | 10/2/2009, 7:04 pm EST

I love Lady Gaga because of what she represents. Her music and performances remind me of artistic visionaries like Grace Jones and David Bowie. Her weird costumes and crazy antics during her performances are refreshing and inspiring.

Most artists on the other hand seem to be opting to play it safe with their image and music. Many of the female artist maintain a ‘Barbie Doll’ look and sound very similar which in my opinion is very boring. My hope is that Lady Gaga’s rising popularity pushes mainstream America to be more open minded and inspires other artists to take more chances in their music and their image.

Bored by Celebrity | 10/2/2009, 7:04 pm EST

Who cares………

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 7:12 pm EST

It’s not like Kanye said ’sorry Taylor, but MY ALBUM deserved to win the award!’.

He was defending BEYONCE’S album. An album that he had zero artistic or financial stake in.

Sure, it was not the smartest thing, but damn, people are overreacting.

It’s not Kanye violently beat up his girlfriend or anything…

I think people are taking this Kanye thing too far.

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 7:15 pm EST

Reasons this tour was cancelled:

A) The tour was primarily hinged on promoting Kanye’s album, which is already a year old, and toured to death.

B) The backlash from the VMA stunt.

C) Absolutely stupid ticket prices. The majority of tickets were between priced at $130 and $500. Whoever set those prices should be shot. Especially in today’s economy.

D) All of the above.

djandy | 10/2/2009, 7:20 pm EST

Why would they perform together anyway. They are 2 totally different artists. Kanye is a dumb ass anyway for what he did to Taylor. Lady Gaga is very unique and will do fine by herself on tour especailly in gay bars.

Daniel from the BAY | 10/2/2009, 8:45 pm EST

People are doing way too much over this Kanye outbreak at the VMA’s. They act like they really care about stars personalities. Yeah he was wrong but who really cares? He’s a great rapper and a great entertainer and thats all that really matters. Glow in the Dark was Epic. Prices were steep, but I wanted to see him so bad to the point where I didn’t care. Don’t care for lady gaga. Women performances bore me, just like women’s basketball.

jennifer toronto | 10/2/2009, 9:09 pm EST

Well i hate LADY GAGA AND KAyne West both of them should just go far far away pleaseeeeee!!
Lady gaga is a phony she is not original at all not EVEN CLOSE To Madonna madonna is a genius please.
Kayne music sucks cant stand that arrogant asshole and his TACKY SLUTY Girlfreind trash!
Kayne and Lady Gaga will not be here in the next five years where a band like u2 who are fucking brillant love BONO will be i only hope.
I will not watch SNL tommorow because GAGA will be on plus the show sucks

Jess | 10/2/2009, 9:12 pm EST

Kanye sucks and so does Lady Gaga. Only thing I would pay a hundred dollars for is Lollapalooza because that is three days of artists with actual talent. Not hermaphrodites and ignorant chipmuncks.

Nmar | 10/2/2009, 9:31 pm EST

Uhhhh, what killed this tour? Hmmmmm, Could it be that no one really wants to see these two egotistical morons perform? Ummm, could it be that Kayne West,,,,, I’m sorry, Who wants to see his idiot? I mean, he’s shot himself in the foot so many times, Enough,,, Dude go away!!!!!!

John | 10/2/2009, 10:00 pm EST

Wasn’t all this just obviously a publicity stunt gone bad??? The timing of Kanye’s “outburst” and the start of ticket sales??? Hello??? The choreography started long before the show rehersals.

rapiscrap | 10/2/2009, 10:08 pm EST

Kanye West needs to deal with some serious consequences for his actions over the years, especially for the stunt he pulled at the VMA’S.The consequences have just begun.

MEL | 10/2/2009, 10:10 pm EST

THEY WERE ASKING 250 A SEAT IN MIAMI.. WHO HAS MONEY FOR THAT? WOULD HAVE BEEN AWESOME BUT SOMEONE WAS WAY TOO GREEDY.

d-ron | 10/2/2009, 10:10 pm EST

two good things about 2009.
1.) Forgetting about Sarah Palin
2.) Forgetting about Kanye West

jim | 10/2/2009, 10:17 pm EST

I think Lady Gaga simply dumped Kanye. Alot of Gaga fans were disillusioned with the tour after the VMAs.

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 11:06 pm EST

this tour would have sucked anyway.

duaned | 10/2/2009, 11:09 pm EST

Ticket prices and KW’s fall from grace have caused poor to no sales – clear and simple. Time off for KW is a good idea. Perhaps he could be a roady for Taylor as penance – like do a mic check or something.

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 11:40 pm EST

this is great news!

wtf? | 10/2/2009, 11:44 pm EST

90% of ppl here are retarded, who the fuck cares if he’s and ass he’s gonna make money some way since he makes good music and ppl will continue to buy his music and idk what all of you are smoking but tickets here for denver were between 40- 200 so yeah 160 if you want floor seating seriously, i think the prices are high but he puts on a great show and gaga would have been a great addition, that vma thing was stupid but he has appologized numerous times, he was just stating his opinion, he just happened to upstage her while doing it if anything swift should thank him for giving her the publicity, because her music beside 2 or 3 songs isn’t that good and the whole race thing, rele? if brad paisly went and disturbed beyonce’s acceptance speech there wouldn’t be talk of it was only cuz she’s black.. bullshit. you know there would be, i am upset this tour was cancelled because tickets went on sale tomorrow morning and i got paid today but what even more pathetic is all of you being ridiculus and blaming kanye..

joe | 10/2/2009, 11:50 pm EST

It’s all Kanye’s fault that the tour was canceled

googledoll | 10/3/2009, 12:08 am EST

Gaga is ridiculous IMHO, but my son, who knows his sht, tells me West was absolutely instrumental in leading the development of hip-hop over the last few years . . .ok he lost it at the VMA but does that erase the entire past? Gaga is a big zero on the other hand . . . bury it girl

Rob | 10/3/2009, 12:33 am EST

Why would anyone want to see these no-talents anyway? What happened to real music? What happened to the real Rolling Stone?

Kanye Sucks! | 10/3/2009, 12:35 am EST

That’s what kanye get’s for picking on a true SuperStar! Taylor Swift took his ignorance in stride, the way a genuine person would do. Now’s the time to kanye to pay for what he did! I will NEVER go to his shows or have anything to do with him! Remember what happened to the Dixie Chicks kanye, now it’s your turn!! Gaga is cool, but kanye is done!

Jack | 10/3/2009, 2:16 am EST

I thought the tour was cancelled due to major sucky-ness..One is known for his tantrum and the other is known for her outfits None is known for their music..and that equals major sucky-ness

givemeshelties | 10/3/2009, 2:24 am EST

Taylor Swift’s last two CDs went 4x platinum. The most Kanye ever achieved on a CD was 2x platinum. So it was a case of him shitting on a better selling artist.

Rian | 10/3/2009, 7:55 am EST

Kanye and Gaga made Giggli

rayge | 10/3/2009, 8:15 am EST

kanye?fact is;you’re gonna be around for a while, and am feeling good about this–let em haters say watever!!

The reason | 10/3/2009, 8:55 am EST

The reason I didn’t want to buy a ticket was KANYE WEST.

I wanted to see Lady Gaga, but once I heard Kanye was on the ticket I was like NO THANKS.

I would see Lady Gaga, but NEVER Kanye West.

Betris | 10/3/2009, 10:15 am EST

I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere, but has anyone considered that maybe Gaga is still rehearsing, etc. because someone else is going to tour with her? Adam Lambert has an album coming out in November, has the same “theatrical” sensibilites and has professed his admiration. His fan base is already huge. Hmmmmm.

Bowling | 10/3/2009, 11:20 am EST

Face it, no one cares about Kanye. GaGa can tour and headline on her own quite easily and doesn’t need him – she clearly figured that out and left him in the lurch. He needed HER, she did not need him.

JMo | 10/3/2009, 11:49 am EST

I think the backlash is affecting ticket sales also…the Prez hit it on the head, heeee haaawwww.

BigGerrs | 10/3/2009, 12:24 pm EST

um youre all fuckin retarted especially whoever wrote this because the the tour was cancelled before tickets even went on sale so this whole article is bullshit

kanye lova | 10/3/2009, 3:09 pm EST

u guys are all stupid and i gaurantee u everyone whos bad talking kanye has never actually listened to one of his songs kanye rules

Mike | 10/3/2009, 3:56 pm EST

I won’t go to Kanye’s concert if it was Free!

Erick | 10/3/2009, 5:56 pm EST

Cant believe people bitching bout the prices. $160 is nothing to c Kanye West. I would even pay $250. Fuk a fuken Laker game costs me $225 not including what I waste inside Staple Center.

OMG | 10/3/2009, 6:08 pm EST

Seriously. This whole racial thing is taking it too far.

Beyonce had an amazing video. Kanye and EVERYONE ELSE IN THE WHOLE WORLD knew this. He simply did what everyone was already thinking…

Yes it was an asshole move. But come on. It wasn’t AIMED at Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift just happened to be the poor soul who happened to beat Beyonce (Who by the way Kanye looks at as a little sister.)

He was drunk. He made a mistake. Get over it. It has nothing to do with the quality of music he makes or how he feels about white people.

You really think he sat there in his seat planning to sabotage a 17 year old white girl because of racist feelings?

He was expecting Beyonce to win as we all were. He was shocked. His ego + alcohol led him to run his mouth… and he made a mistake.

All of you turning this into a racial thing… Get over it. If he had interrupted Rihanna this would have blown over by now…

I guess white people feel the need to defend their peoples too. haha

Question | 10/3/2009, 6:11 pm EST

How come everyone is talking about Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift but no one is talking about Lil Mama interrupting Jay-Z and Alicia Keys?

Kanye west, LOL. | 10/3/2009, 6:25 pm EST

His mom failed at raising a decent human.

RUDE | 10/3/2009, 6:45 pm EST

To “Kanye West, LOL”

It seems that your mom failed to raise a decent human being.

Talking shit about a dead woman is not classy.

Answer: | 10/3/2009, 6:58 pm EST

to “Question”: nobody knows/cares about them.

People care because Kanye not only has a history of being a total @#$% but he actually said that he would cool it down after the South Park “Gay Fish” fiasco. Coupled with the fact that most real musicians acknowledge that he isn’t all that special equals a big back-lash.

To those who think Kanye is a genius, take a few recording and electronic music classes and then you are entitled to your opinion (which will most likely have changed).

Maggie | 10/3/2009, 7:28 pm EST

Im dying to see Lady Gaga I believe it would be an interesting show! I do hope she goes on tour solo it would be great I would definetly go to that…

I was planning on going to the show and just show up late just to see Gaga’s show! lol… but I didnt know the prices where that high… dont know if i would’ve gone…

walter | 10/3/2009, 7:37 pm EST

cmon Will .comparing lady gogo or what ever moronic moniker she employs to david bowie?you should be a comedian

cieloazul | 10/3/2009, 7:41 pm EST

$150.00 per ticket?! Who do they think they are? Coldplay? Seriously, we want to continue to attend concerts, but there is a recession still. Would be nice if these acts took that into consideration, adjusted the performance (or wardrobe changes-non essential) so as to keep the price justifiable.

Elizabeth | 10/3/2009, 8:41 pm EST

Pay $160 to see a Jackass?? NOT!!

Insider | 10/3/2009, 9:08 pm EST

hey to all u outsiders who love to talk about the hot topic,,a few members of the band (pretty kuch the main rythem section) had an accident and couldnt get replacements, other freelance cats who have performed his music are all on the road with other artist, IE: Maxwell, John Legend… its not JUST the Artist on that stage..funny

D | 10/3/2009, 9:58 pm EST

Good, I only wanted to see Kanye anyway. I don’t want to see a Madonna/Kylie wannabe. If I did I go see the real thing. Why would Kanye wanted to tour with a imposter anyway?

John | 10/3/2009, 10:51 pm EST

Don’t tours usually have sponsors? Who would want to sponsor Kanye’s tour?

Dr. Leo Marvin | 10/4/2009, 2:28 am EST

Kanye’s inability to make quality music, coupled with his uncontrollable douchebagery, cancelled the tour. As far as Gaga, who cares? Both of them rely on everything but musical substance.

gbs | 10/4/2009, 2:48 am EST

Oh and being a writer I can tell you beyonce had a good song but her video was not that great. The conceptual writing for taylor”s video was much more challenging and creatively better than beyonces by far.
I’m sure the thought process from beyonces writers went something like “uh what can we do? Uh I know, beyonce has a nice ass, let’s put her in a one piece showing off her ass and have her wave her hand around, pause. Brilliant!!! Brilliant!!! Let get a guiness and call it a night”. I don’t think that video even deserves video of the year. Best female artist that’s one thing but video of the year, from a creative stand point that’s a stretch. And taylor swift out sold beyonce and blew kanye out of the water when it came to records sales in 2008 2009. Kanye is just hatin that a teenage country girl made more money then him and her love/heartbreak album out sold his hip hop 808 and heartbreak love album. Welcome back to the bad life, least your grand ma ma is still gonna call you baby.

... | 10/4/2009, 3:05 am EST

Mike | 10/4/2009, 4:01 am EST

Great! They dropped Kanye from the tour. Thank goodness. I totally did not want to see Kanye West. So glad Lady GaGa will still tour!!

disaster | 10/4/2009, 5:29 am EST

people pay to see gaga perform??!!?

thats insane..she is talentless..at least Kanye has some talent.

Ron | 10/4/2009, 9:31 am EST

Taylor Swift is a great singer and such a sweetheart… Hopefully this MTV thing will help her career and got her name out to many folks who had not heard of her before. This is her good Karma.

Ron | 10/4/2009, 9:34 am EST

I saw Kanye on 3 different TV spots, he did the “How could you be so cold” song on all 3, a very whiney tune and he acted so pained, seemed like he was trying to get even with someone by singing about them, I’ll bet he was the jerk in the relationship…

Absalaam | 10/4/2009, 10:11 am EST

The word “artist” should never be used in reference to either of these idiots; the threshold is not crossed. Bubble-gummers, both of them. No class, no talent, boneheads. Folks should have more respect for themselves than to settle for the likes of either of these. Too bad the country can’t get it’s shit together enough to discriminate between the valuable and the worthless. Pretty fucking sad, really.

ho-down | 10/4/2009, 10:14 am EST

Is it true Lady Gaga has been ripping off other artists designs? From Brandon Hilton, MikeAlike, M.I.A. to name a few?
The Madonna Wanna Be isn’t doing theater work- her music is almost showtunes, but with that “funky” hot club sound.
She doesn’t look like Debbie Gibson to me. Times have changed…and what happened to her New Kids On The Block(NKOTB) tour, I’m sorry, that was so very last year.

dong/dong | 10/4/2009, 10:37 am EST

Where did Lady Gaga get booed? Why do all my cool friends think she’s a poser and idiot?
Has anyone read a press release where Lady Gaga takes insults and truths and turns them into compliments so to not be disliked or have consumers turn against her?
And for the record her music isn’t “electro” electro music is bands like Front 242 (one of the original electro bands) and Kas Product-neither of which got started with New Kids On The Block or needed to use a shopping mall boy band to get started/publicity…

Suxx | 10/4/2009, 11:06 am EST

Agree. Both are clowns with no talent at all. TRASH..!!!

M | 10/4/2009, 12:12 pm EST

@ Benson: A couple of no-talent hacks…
We’ll forget all about them both in 20 years.
Kanye who?

I am not planning or hoping 20 years… I am hoping/planning in the next hour.

@zaynjones | 10/4/2009, 2:04 pm EST

Kanye…

Come back to reality, bro. You’re brilliant, but damn! You act like you’re a victim and you are.. You’re a victim of your own bullshit. You’re talent has been completely trumped by your fucking insanity. You chose this life! If you wanna bitch about it, give all the money back and go the fuck away.

peace-basket | 10/4/2009, 2:31 pm EST

Rumor has it Lady Gaga when Michael Jackson died tagged her title “Lady Gaga” with the title “Michael Jackson” so that when people go online and do internet searches they pull a result for both names.
Is that a disrespectful way to gain notoriety, by using his death because its a media sensation?
Wasn’t the tragedy surrounding his life that people didn’t give a shit.
“Fame Kills”

I used to love Kanye – not anymore. Kanye would have to pay me $160 to see his concert.

Would the prices go down now that they’re only paying one artist?

Kanye Blows | 10/5/2009, 9:53 am EST

Kanye does have some good music; I’ll admit it, but being a total douche to taylor swift like that was absolutely uncalled for. He is one of the most arrogant artists I have ever even HEARD of. Not to mention everyone is right about how high those ticket prices are. I went and saw VAN F***ING HALEN for around $100 during their reunion tour and had great seats, not crappy general admission. Also, Lady Gaga is actually very talented. She has created a new sort of music that appeals to today’s generation. She’s not my cup of tea, but damn, the woman knows how the music industry works.

Anonymous | 10/5/2009, 9:59 am EST

I wouldnt listen to Kayne West if he was playing in my backyard

keeping it real | 10/5/2009, 12:15 pm EST

Okay lets start off with taylor swift and the whole vma’s, she has’nt been around LONG enough in order for this whole thing to be such a big deal. And for those who say KANYE HAS NO TALENT PLEASE BACK HAND SLAP YOURSELF,and people who talk shit about kanye really dont know what rap is.yeah he has a very big ego but thats just who he is. he is one of the very FEW rappers keeping hip-hop alive. i paid 150 for my ticket and i wanted to see both lady gaga and west. so go ahead and talk shit because weather you like him or not he will still be himself no matter what and make money.

algomajoker | 10/5/2009, 3:08 pm EST

Is the writer saying that Kanye isn’t the guy from Kate plus 8 show? It’s either that or the other show about the small people. Why pay 150 bones when I can just watch TLC?

harpoonie-tunes | 10/6/2009, 11:03 am EST

How sad. Lady Gaga just made it to S-N-L and it was starring w/Madonna. I found this website by a girl named Aisha which has long lists and photo comparisons that portray Madonna as a plagiarist and con-artist, people are so mean and materialistic, Madonna’s not a capitalistic wanna-be or entertainment tyrant-she’s a mother of Christ or I mean the messiah, anyway its all confusing, I’m better off not saying anything more about this controversial subject matter. I guess though Lady Gaga gets booed off stage every once in awhile, maybe she shouldn’t perform live for people who understand music and art- she should stick to the New Kids On The Block fans and nursing homes she started playing at before MTV.

Pricing was RIDICULOUS | 10/6/2009, 2:48 pm EST

You can’t charge $500 per seat for average lower level tickets. You just can’t. The tour should have been called Price Kills instead of Fame Kills. Your dumbass pricing killed this tour. $150 a ticket for General Admission floor. Idiots…

Kris | 10/6/2009, 4:09 pm EST

I have been to a lady gaga concert she was with White tie affair and a few other bands this was last april the show was amazing and tickets were about 24.00 plus the surcharges… a few weeks later she went on tour by herself and her solo tickets were about 45. she doesn’t like playing in huge places one tickets are more and two she like to connect with her audience…. a concert with that POS would have sucked we were going to go cause it was her but im sooooo glad she is going by herself.. her last show we have front row and she was AMAZING!

so why you all giving him crap for it ??? Have some respect !

Haushinka | 10/15/2009, 7:12 pm EST

it’s not that Kanye “sucks” he’s just a total jerk now hands down. Before he was cool and many people liked him but he just got way to cocky.

But, if the show was still on I would go. ( just to see Gaga)
