Gary Numan says his collaboration with Trent Reznor will jump from the live stage to the studio: The “Cars” singer told the Quietus he plans to work with the Nine Inch Nails leader in the near future. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Numan joined Reznor onstage during Nine Inch Nails’ final Wave Goodbye concerts in Los Angeles. NIN have quit performing live, but Reznor has vowed to continue working in the studio.

“I think he’s going to be pretty busy for a while,” Numan said, referring to Reznor’s upcoming marriage to former West Indian Girl singer Mariqueen Maandig, “so it’ll either be later this year or early next.” Numan told the Quietus that the collaboration will probably be “just a few songs to start with and see how it goes on. It’ll be cool.”

Check out photos from NIN’s last-ever live gig.

Over the past year, Reznor has stayed busy in the studio, recruiting all four original members of Jane’s Addiction for sessions that produced two of the best songs that band has recorded in almost two decades.

Reznor has long named Numan as one of his major inspirations, and took a moment during the final NIN concert to pay tribute to The Pleasure Principle singer. “Trent on the last night stopped it at one point and went to the mic and did this really lovely little speech about me and how important I was,” Numan said. “You don’t want to be really, really humble, because it looks as if you don’t appreciate it, and you don’t want to be going ‘oh yes’ because it looks like you’re full of yourself. It was really awkward.”

I don’t understand the infatuation with Gary.

This is wonderful news. Numan’s songwriting and vocals, and Trent’s production and playing, are made for each other.

if you listen to Pretty Hate Machine, all the “noises” are right out of Numan’s previous work.

I’ve given up on NIN, but would check this out.

As far as the Metal Sludge “sluts” go, from your description of them I would have to say they are more grounded than Trent Reznor is. They submerse themselves into their world of fantasy but I doubt they are as consumed by their delusions and expectations as Trent appears to be. I especially liked how Trent told people to “feel sorry for them” because they don’t meet his standards of human existence. And the cutting advice? Bravo! Another irony in the scope of trading quips and maintaining class and higher standards.

Two musicians who suck pair up together. Who would of thought of it? Gary Numan = One Hit Unwonder and Trent Reznor = Rip-off King of Bev. Hills.

Im a Hug NIN fan .. A fan of Gary’s musical work .. But i cant stand his voice .. Hopefully he tunes his voice down a few keys to help with that … To those of you who dont like NIN .. Go listen to slipknot , or some other singer who either acts like he is screaming while making boogy man voices close to the mic , or to somebody who sings like a teen with a dick in his ass .. Or a great singer with no artistic vision .. either which way .. None of them will match Trent .. Artistically they all fall short . Only Band close to NIN artistically is Tool .. Period ..

Can’t Trent just go sit down and shut up? He’s already ruined himself by showing his true self to everyone this year. Digging up Gary Numan isn’t going to save his career.
