Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss Lead 2010 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

9/23/09, 8:00 am EST

The ballot for next year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class is one of the most diverse ever: the Red Hot Chili Peppers, LL Cool J, Kiss and Genesis are up for nomination alongside the Stooges, Donna Summer, ABBA, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, the Chantels, the Hollies and Jimmy Cliff. Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their debut release, so all the candidates released their first single no later than 1984. LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both made the ballot on their first year of eligibility.

Check out the potential Rock Hall Class of 2010 in classic photos.

This is Kiss’ first time on the ballot, and their wait for a nod has frustrated the band and its army of fans. “There are disco bands, rap bands, Yiddish folk song bands in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but not Kiss,” Gene Simmons said last year. “I believe we have more gold records in America
than any other group, but it’s OK.” The Stooges made an appearance at the induction ceremony just two years ago, as Iggy Pop and Co. performed a pair of Madonna songs when the Queen of Pop joined the Hall.

Rolling Stone’s Essential Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Coverage: photos, video, interviews and more.

If LL Cool J gets inducted he will be the third hip-hop act to get into the Hall, after Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five (Class of ‘07) and Run-DMC (Clas of ‘08). “I don’t even think I can describe it. In terms of music, it’s probably the happiest moment for me since I got my break,” LL Cool J tells Rolling Stone. “My break was the moment I was called by Rick Rubin and he said, ‘Come down, let’s make some records.’ Now they are nominating me for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, it makes me feel like it mattered a little bit. It’s cool. It’s a great feeling.” Watch LL Cool J react to his Rock Hall nomination below.

The final list of inductees — decided by the 500 voters receiving ballots — will be announced in January and the ceremony will once again be held at New York’s Waldorf Astoria on March 15th, 2010. On October 29th and 30th the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will celebrate its 25th anniversary with two concerts at Madison Square Garden that will feature performances by U2, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Metallica, Simon & Garfunkel and many more. RHCP FTW

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 8:17 am EST

To get a Peter Gabriel & Genesis reunion, and an ABBA reunion, would be pretty historical!

allah | 9/23/2009, 8:21 am EST

red hot chili peppers will kick that hall door down muthafuckas!!

J.Burke | 9/23/2009, 8:23 am EST

all hail the mighty Stooges!!!

TobyTyler | 9/23/2009, 8:26 am EST

LL Cool Jay but no RUSH.
Does someone need the definition of Rock-n-Roll!

Ray | 9/23/2009, 8:38 am EST

allah, the RHCP don’t deserve to even knock on the door. And KISS? Please, for the love of God, what has happened to music?

Shemp | 9/23/2009, 8:44 am EST

KISS is a no brainer, and should have already been inducted by now.

I’d love to see the Stooges get in … and Genesis would be an ok induction as long as Peter Gabriel is included in the ceremony.

MegaSudz | 9/23/2009, 8:48 am EST

Nothing says Rock and Roll like ABBA! Oh dear Lord………

Me | 9/23/2009, 8:51 am EST

Exactly, TobyTyler! LL Cool J over Rush?! WTF are these people thinking?! Ungrateful idiots.

Rach | 9/23/2009, 8:52 am EST

KISS Sucks! Go Jimmy Cliff.

dlt | 9/23/2009, 8:55 am EST

Integrity ain’t what the contest is about; no surprises if the Stooges don’t win. I thought kiss was dumb in ‘75, during their heydey, when I was fourteen

Michael | 9/23/2009, 8:59 am EST

The Rock Hall of Fame might be rendered irrelevant if the Stooges aren’t inducted soon.

Ken | 9/23/2009, 9:11 am EST

Two words, one name: Alice Cooper. To put Kiss in the HOF before the Alice Cooper band is a slap in the face. The Pistols had it right, the HOF is a piss stain.

COMFORT INN | 9/23/2009, 9:16 am EST

First off change the name, there are members who have nothing to do with rock and roll. second broken record moment. Why no Warren Zevon and Tom Waits, lastly not only should Genesis be in but Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel should have their spot also. LLCOOLJ give me a break

HB | 9/23/2009, 9:21 am EST

I can understand KISS, a lot of bands have cited them as an influence to pick up instruments and play. RUSH’S influence was the perfection of playing those instruments. The outrage over RUSH not being nominated is almost comical at this point. The Rock Hall is a place where the “critics” can get back at the masses, a kind of, “we ultimately determine which bands deserve formal recognition” attitude. What a shame.

Black Frank | 9/23/2009, 9:22 am EST

Fuck Rush. How bout THE CURE!

Roomba | 9/23/2009, 9:23 am EST

Once again, Cheap Trick is snubbed. Kiss arguably deserves a slot for its influence (but not its music since it’s made about one and a half good albums – Destroyer and half of Love Gun). The Stooges are a no-brainer. ABBA and LL Cool J deserve a shot. Not all of us interpret “rock and roll” as being limited to guitar-based music rooted mostly in blues, Elvis, the Beatles, Lez Zeppelin, et al. Sorry, Peppers, you’ve not earned a place yet.

Jeff | 9/23/2009, 9:23 am EST

Yes, Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, Heart, Spirit, King Crimson, WTF??

Mr. Headphones | 9/23/2009, 9:27 am EST

Laura Nyro and Darlene Love should get in this year!

Chuckio | 9/23/2009, 9:29 am EST

Let’s not forget Steve Hackett was an integral member of Genesis during their classic early years. Would love to see him join a reunion too. Although I suspect it will be the commercial 3 singing Invible Touch and We Can’t Dance

Newch91 | 9/23/2009, 9:33 am EST

This is who it should be:

Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Stooges
KISS
The Hollies

WalkinDude | 9/23/2009, 9:39 am EST

Hey, I know, how about some RUSH! You know, it’s pretty cool how some bands RUSH get in the year they can be inducted, and then others who are probably more deserving RUSH don’t get inducted til sometimes much later RUSH.

Oh, and Deep Purple would be pretty cool too. I cite Metallica last year for needed inductees this year.

Hole | 9/23/2009, 9:54 am EST

Still no Alice Cooper? Without AC their would be no KISS

Claude | 9/23/2009, 10:04 am EST

THE…GUESS…WHO!

And if ABBA, gets in, it is time for Hall & Oates…

Rachelle5150 | 9/23/2009, 10:06 am EST

I think kiss is an awesome decision for the rock they have brought so much to rock and roll! I would love to see RHCP inducted to! Both bands are epic!

reuben | 9/23/2009, 10:10 am EST

jungle bros sample stooges, GNR,
slayer, blake babies, van hunt,
cover stooges,

LET’S GO STOOGES!

Justin | 9/23/2009, 10:15 am EST

RHCP, Genesis and The Stooges would be a wicked class. I suppose KISS would be an important addition though i don’t particularly like them. The truth is the Rock n Roll Hall has diverted so much that it’s hard to give it much credit anymore. I no it’s hard to determine that thin line and I dig LL Cool J but come on, not for the ROCK hall?

EEM2009 | 9/23/2009, 10:31 am EST

First of all, KISS finally gets a shot!!! Second, the R&RHOF should have groups that define and broaden the term – I’m not just for one or the other. Having said that my picks from this list would be: KISS, ABBA, Genesis, The Stooges, Red Hot Chili Peppers and LL Cool J. Finally, the Hall committee is WRONG for snubbing so many deserving artists: Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Rush, Yes, Heart, Boston, Foreigner, Journey, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick, The Cars, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne (solo career), Motorhead, Scorpions…the list goes on and on. Hopefully all the aformentioned artists and others get in before they are all gone!!!

Jon G | 9/23/2009, 10:33 am EST

I agree wholeheartedly with those who write: ALICE COOPER!!! Yes & Tull, too – and where the hell is Deep Purple? Then again, Madonna is in this “shrine…”

bizarro | 9/23/2009, 10:34 am EST

go ABBA!

Anthony Kiedis | 9/23/2009, 10:42 am EST

Remember when the RHCP didn’t suck? Yeah, me neither.

flopman | 9/23/2009, 10:43 am EST

Do you guys really hate Rush more than Donna Summers?

Dwight Fry | 9/23/2009, 10:44 am EST

I totally agree that there would be no Kiss without Alice Cooper. Without Alice there would be no Cure, Bauhaus, or Siouxie and The Banshees. All of which deserve to be in the HOF as well.Hell, there would be no GOTH! Induct Alice Cooper NOW!!!

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 10:48 am EST

I think RHCP deserve it!Not just because they are my favorite band and are awesome, but look at the longevity! Also Rock and Roll is guitar-based music, rooted in the blues!! Abba in my opinion is pop music or bubblegum music. I don’t know why they call it the Rock and Roll Hall of fame. Why not just music Hall of Fame?

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 10:51 am EST

The fact of the matter is… they need to increase the number of inductees, so they don’t have to keep doing these unjust oversights every year.

JC | 9/23/2009, 10:54 am EST

Question: How does LL Cool J qualify? His first release came out in 1985. As the article states “Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their debut release, so all the candidates released their first single no later than 1984″

wrecksracer | 9/23/2009, 10:55 am EST

Link Wray still isn’t in? The man practically invented the power chord.

tom | 9/23/2009, 10:56 am EST

Saw Alice Cooper last night and he blew the roof off the place. 61 and still rocking. What a shame on the HOF for not giving him a nod.

ZoSo | 9/23/2009, 11:03 am EST

First off, the Chili Peppers are great and do deserve to be in the Rock ‘N Roll HOF. Genesis should have been there a long time ago. I don’t know where they get off inducting Rap and Hip-Hop artists…that just baffles me!

JR Wolfe | 9/23/2009, 11:16 am EST

Who comes up with this list ?

Abba ? LL Cool J ? Donna Summer ? What do they have to do with rock and roll ?

How come Steppenwolf,Moody Blues,Three Dog Night and PRR aren’t on that list ?

Dan | 9/23/2009, 11:20 am EST

What about DEVO? They are still active, were always an incredible live act and invented what we now call the music video. Are We Not Men??!!!

Lucho | 9/23/2009, 11:23 am EST

Kiss !!!! The Hottest band in the world !!!!!!

Chuckio | 9/23/2009, 11:26 am EST

Iggy looks liek Nigel Tufnel in that picture.

iLly | 9/23/2009, 11:29 am EST

Red Hot Chili Peppers… perfect!

den | 9/23/2009, 11:34 am EST

ABBA,KISS,THE HOLLIES,and of course GENESIS with Phil Collins,Peter Gabriel, and Steve Hackett reunion.

Bryan | 9/23/2009, 11:34 am EST

This is who it should be this year:

RHCP
The Hollies
Stooges
Jimmy Cliff
The Chantels

El Doo | 9/23/2009, 11:36 am EST

Can’t believe Liberace gets snubbed again. WTF?

Jim | 9/23/2009, 11:48 am EST

What about Boston? I cannot believe they are not already in!

cat | 9/23/2009, 11:50 am EST

genisis without peter is a slap in the face. it would be the closest that the guys will ever get back together. if not what about just peter gabriel alone!

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 11:51 am EST

First and foremost Jimmy Cliff deserves this. Though in terms of Rock n Roll, its apparent that the RHCP, KISS and Genesis should also bask in the rejection, that is hailed as music ulimate acceptance. And yet most of the artists who is/are inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame has existed or occurred in a time of pop-culture that expands futher than our mere understandings. So whomever recieves this prestigous, yet questionable honor, SALUTE.

Charles | 9/23/2009, 11:52 am EST

RE: Donna Summer

Listen to her 16 minute cut of “Love To Love You Baby” and tell me it doesn’t ooze attitude; that’s rock ‘n roll.

rosenrot | 9/23/2009, 11:53 am EST

Are you kiddin me..KiSS and RHCP are “ON”..but can’t understand ll cool j..this is rock n roll hall of fame, hello!!

RK | 9/23/2009, 11:55 am EST

How do all these “legends” get in and STILL no Joe Cocker? Should get in on the strength of “Mad Dogs and Englishmen” alone! Come on……ABBA?….Really?

GENESIS!!!! | 9/23/2009, 11:57 am EST

Please to those who are able to vote in this help get Genesis in, the band spawned Peter Gabriel & Phil Collins (that’s pretty huge) and when the 5 of them (with Hackett/Banks/Rutherford) they were never better …… would love to see these 5 mates play together on stage once more…..

A Joke | 9/23/2009, 12:04 pm EST

Honestly the R&R HOF has become a joke – why acts like Madonna & Grandmaster Flash are in is anyone’s guess – why call it Rock & Roll? Just call it the Music hall of fame then…The only obvious artist who will get in this year is LL COOL J – notice I said artist….I respect LL and like some of his early stuff but wouldn’t add him to the Rock & Roll hall of fame – They now have to be PC going forward – trust me Jay Z will be in there too some day but you wont be Springsteen get a BET or Soul Train award

Aaron Hack... | 9/23/2009, 12:04 pm EST

I love Aretha and I feel Aretha should be inducted again and again. But in all honesty, people can complain all day, but the true essence of Rock n Roll, is the concept of who really gives a damn.

Roy | 9/23/2009, 12:05 pm EST

There is way too much star power and way too many oldies acts on the nominees list this year, and because of that, I guarantee the following to be inducted in 2010:

KISS
Genesis
The Hollies
The Stooges
Red Hot Chili Peppers

This opens the door for Yes, Deep Purple, Chicago, Alice Cooper and Neil Diamond for 2011.

Roy | 9/23/2009, 12:07 pm EST

THEY BETTER INDUCT BERNIE TAUPIN THIS YEAR IN THE NON-PERFORMERS CATEGORY!

auggie | 9/23/2009, 12:11 pm EST

kiss, what a joke,

Oh Well - someday..... | 9/23/2009, 12:12 pm EST

Maybe we’ll see The Cure, Depeche Mode & The Smiths
Get Those Stooges in as well as the original, or Classic Genesis lineup with Gabriel & Hackett
Fuck Gene Simmons – I’d laugh if Kiss doesn’t get in and would love to hear Gene’s response – By the way — Where’s Rush and Deep Purple?? Tom Sawyer and Smoke on the Water are two of the biggest “Rock” songs ever recorded that you will hear over the P.A. at every major sporting event – Geesh…

IDK | 9/23/2009, 12:13 pm EST

there is nothing rock and roll about disco (Donna Summer), LL or Abba. If Abba, are the Bay City Rollers next? At least they came closer to rocking (I guess). I don’t know Laura Nyro, so I can’t comment there. The rest? Sure, put ‘em in.

jawsfan | 9/23/2009, 12:13 pm EST

It’s about time Kiss got nominated. Even if you don’t care for them, their influence on other bands is well-known and well-documented. Rush will get their due one day. I hope The Tubes get a shot one day. They are the most underrated and underappreciated band in rock and roll.

downer | 9/23/2009, 12:15 pm EST

Much better (except for LL) but still missing:

Yes

Rush

Peter Gabriel-solo

Curt | 9/23/2009, 12:17 pm EST

Genesis — about time, let’s see if the academy actually votes in the band that gave us Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins and Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks
They only have been around since the late 60’s/early 70’s

blake | 9/23/2009, 12:18 pm EST

The Cure
Depeche Mode

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 12:19 pm EST

KISS is everything that is wrong with rock music.

Roy | 9/23/2009, 12:19 pm EST

GENESIS is the only act on the list that I would be very disappointed about if they are not inducted in 2010!

H2 | 9/23/2009, 12:20 pm EST

Where are Chicago, The Moody Blues, and of course, Alice Cooper? Glad to see the Hollies and the Chantels on the list, but I could easily do without LL Cool J. But I’m afraid we are going to see more and more (C)rappers getting into the HOF in the coming years.

Agnatolis | 9/23/2009, 12:22 pm EST

What about Rush ???? why aren’t they in the hall ???

Bill | 9/23/2009, 12:23 pm EST

ABBA? and No Rush? IDIOTS.

Mike H | 9/23/2009, 12:35 pm EST

The fools that decide the nominees for the RRHOF wouldn’t know rock and roll history if it bit them in the ass. It has truly become the laughing stock of awards with no real legitimacy or integrity in their choices.

When bands such as The Moody Blues and Chicago are snubbed for so many of the niche choices, it just goes to enforce that there is something seriously wrong and that it is tightly controlled by a few power mongers.

LL Cool J? The Chantels? Give me a break!

If the RRHOF had any integrity at all, which I doubt they do, they would scrap whatever their selection criteria is for selecting. It makes no sense to anyone, but themselves.

Maztuhmind | 9/23/2009, 12:36 pm EST

I’m surprised to see how people still care about this useless hall of fame shit. it means nothing to the musicians. it’s all just a popularity contest. they’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel this year.

DISGRACEFUL | 9/23/2009, 12:39 pm EST

LL COOL J BEFORE ALICE COOPER, HALL & OATES, THE GUESS WHO, TOMMY JAMES, BAD COMPANY, THE MOODY BLUES, FREE, JETHRO TULL, LINDA RONSTANDT, NEIL DIAMOND, NEW YORK DOLLS, CHICAGO, JOHNNY RIVERS, STEPPENWOLF, ARE EVEN CONSIDERED? GIVE ME A F#!@ING BREAK!!!

kiss man | 9/23/2009, 12:41 pm EST

it about fn time kiss should have been in the first place. no other band has influenced more artist other than the beatles

LORD OF WOLVES | 9/23/2009, 12:41 pm EST

No D.Purple or Rush or AliceCooper or Boston,Babies,Rasberries, the Giels Band…? HELL, WHAT ABOUT BLUE OYSTER CULT?

I may boycott!

Kool Moe Dee | 9/23/2009, 12:43 pm EST

LL had two good albums, his first two. Radio and BAD. Other than that dude is a sellout. Seriously NCIS LA?

Rob | 9/23/2009, 12:44 pm EST

If the RHCP does not make it I will cry. I know there are haters out there, especially with Kiedis, but I definitely think they deserve it…and as Happy typed, I second it, RHCP FTW. Oh, how the fuck did ABBA get included into the list of nominees? What a joke, at least to me.

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 12:49 pm EST

Kiss deserves to be in. They are the reason that guys like Anthony Kiedis and Flea even got into music. Learn your history bithches!!

bob | 9/23/2009, 12:50 pm EST

I have nothing against LL cool J but as far as I rememember he one good hit mommas gonna knock you…but what else???? Like I said I actually like the guy but how the hell should he be in the rock and roll hall of fame…..and once again no mention of RINGO and tull and the monkees and alot others who should be in it…..Why dont they change the 25 year rule and induct kanye west, rhianna and of course Jay-z.

Joe | 9/23/2009, 12:57 pm EST

What a joke. Link Wray forever!

blip | 9/23/2009, 12:57 pm EST

1.Genesis

2.KISS

3.Hollies

4.Stooges

5.Jimmy Cliff

6.ABBA

Could care less about the rest!!!

Lucario | 9/23/2009, 1:00 pm EST

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was a clever disguise for the Popular Music Hall of Fame, which it has been from the start. Think about it: is James Brown rock? He was inducted the first year, and most would say he’s soul/funk. They should seriously rename the place so that their nominations can seem legitimate again.

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 1:02 pm EST

Red Hot Chili Peppers!!!!!!

Intruder | 9/23/2009, 1:03 pm EST

Next time-

Rush, Jethro Tull, Chicago, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Alice Cooper, Peter Gabriel!

David | 9/23/2009, 1:09 pm EST

F…..ing RAP is not R&R. Get serious here. It’s called the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, not the I can’t sing, but I can Rap Hall of Shame.

Jeremy | 9/23/2009, 1:10 pm EST

WARREN ZEVON. What the hell are they waiting for???

GREATESTEVERIZRUSH | 9/23/2009, 1:11 pm EST

Wow, For the last 10 years, the crappiest bands have been enshrined in the hall. And this year is no different. LL COOLJ? HAHAHAHA. Someone should do what the Howard Stern fan did, make up a different hall of fame! RUSH should have been in 20 years ago! They are truly living legends, but ya know what? Their music and talent is a fuck you to the rock n roll hall of shame! Who needs that anyway. RUSH was great before they built that crap hole in cleveland and RUSH will make an impact long after that building falls down! RUSH doesn’t need that place to validate their greatness! I would choose RUSH over Pink Floyd, Zep, The Who, the Stones…everyday of the week and twice on Sunday! F U RNR Hall of shame!

lucastar07 | 9/23/2009, 1:12 pm EST

Red Hot Chili Peppers is the best band of the world.

samboc | 9/23/2009, 1:14 pm EST

The Rock & Roll hall is a joke! Its not rock but merely a music hall at this point. Where is the amazing Blue Oyster Cult? Huge Kiss influence even admittedly so by Gene Simmons.

billie | 9/23/2009, 1:15 pm EST

STOOGES

brian | 9/23/2009, 1:15 pm EST

Can anyone explain why the voters hate ’80s indie rock so much? There’s certainly precedent for putting in influential artists who didn’t sell; eventually enough of a stink was raised to wear down their resistance to the Velvet Underground. Why isn’t Stipe or Grohl or someone with some influence campaigning for Husker Du with the same passion?

Metal Man | 9/23/2009, 1:16 pm EST

They finally got it right with Kiss being inducted. It’s about damn time they should have been inducted a long time ago. They’ve sold more gold albums than any other American bands ever including The Beach Boys, Aerosmith, etc. Their influence on metal/Rock music is huge. Only The Beatles, Little Richard,Chuck Berry, Elvis,The Stones, The Beach Boys, The Who, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Aerosmith,ZZ Top AC/DC Ted Nugent,Rush,Yes,The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Iron Maiden,Judas Priest, Metallica and Slayer have a higher or equal amount of influence in Rock ‘N’ Roll Music. They should have been a first ballot that’s a no brainer. The Hollies, Genesis, The Stooges,RHCP, Donna Summer,LLCoolJ Abba, and the Chantels I believe they should be in The Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall Of Fame for their influence on modern music as well.

RAL | 9/23/2009, 1:17 pm EST

I agree, how and why is hip-hop rap and disco singers qualify in Rockn Roll when you got bands like RUSH, Cheap Trick and REO Speedwagon who have and still are making good RocknRoll music over 40 years each? I still continue to listen to them today.

Omihakkei | 9/23/2009, 1:18 pm EST

Progressive rock has been slighted by the HOF for years. Yes, Rush, King Crimson and Gabriel-era Genesis are all deserving. Genesis making the nominee list gives us Troopers hope Yes will finally get their due

Larry | 9/23/2009, 1:20 pm EST

I’m amazed at how many people question hip hop artist going into RRHF. you should widen your horizons. the hall of fame is not only for gutiar playing musicians.

In actuality the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s name should be changed to The Music Hall of Fame. Non guitar playing muicsians have benn inducted for the longest…

KissFanatic | 9/23/2009, 1:21 pm EST

It’s not about who came before who, etc. Kiss have been making music, touring for 35 Years! They deserve it! Gene & Paul have kept Kiss going. Im a huge Kiss fan & it’s about time they are Inducted inot the RNRHOF!

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 1:24 pm EST

at last stooges…wonderful…kiss no way…….sales doesnt show how innovative a band is…

Deb Cummings | 9/23/2009, 1:27 pm EST

Are you people freakin’ kiddin us. Why in hell do you call this Rock and Roll when it couldn’t be further from that. Please.. ABBA.. you’re shittin me.. LL Kool J.. he’s good, yeah. but rock-n-roll. What the heck is wrong with this picture!!!!! Get Freakin’ real.

Dan | 9/23/2009, 1:31 pm EST

How the hell is LL Cool J a Rock Hall nominee and Jeff Lynne/ELO isn’t? Complete nonsense.

huxster | 9/23/2009, 1:31 pm EST

…the whole damn Marshall Tucker Band!!!

JasonTH | 9/23/2009, 1:35 pm EST

Nice to see KISS’ name FINALLY on the ballot. Got my fingers crossed for them.

velvetjones | 9/23/2009, 1:36 pm EST

i love how everyone here says hip hop shouldn’t be in the rock hall of fame when the chili peppers themselves were heavily influenced by rap in their early days…..

Catholic Boy | 9/23/2009, 1:38 pm EST

Patti Smith is in so why not induct Jim Carroll

Modern Day Delilah | 9/23/2009, 1:41 pm EST

It’s about time that KISS isn’t recognized for their music. Kudos to them. :-)

stormyweather | 9/23/2009, 1:42 pm EST

Cheap Trick is one of the most overlooked bands in the US!! Robin and the boys deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

Alex | 9/23/2009, 1:42 pm EST

The people from NYC that is running the Rock Hall needs to be replaced by Clevelanders, after all it is theirs, by virtue and territory.

Secondly, the Rock Hall should be putting these inductees in chronological order, not some scrambled mishmash of inductees. There needs to be some consistency and dignity to the process!

Thirdly, Rap is not rock and roll, and should be eliminated from being inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame. If rappers want recognition for their work? Let them put a Rap HoF in New York, and let the people who are here from New York, residing and nominating rappers into the Rock Hall, start and run that one!

And lastly, these inductee picks, should not be chosen by a few people at the Rock Hall, to install their favorite artists. It should be up to the people of Northeast Ohio to vote on each years selection, which should go in chronological order by year. This is Cleveland’s Rock Hall of Fame, after all.

Something really needs to be done by Cleveland’s legislature, to correct these problems with inductees, that seem to be only getting worse.

Tim | 9/23/2009, 1:45 pm EST

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists’ contributions to the development and perpetuation of ROCK and ROLL.

Notice the last three words. This is from the offical RRHS

Rabbitbunnny | 9/23/2009, 1:45 pm EST

Of course I was a litte saddened and shocked when I heard that Phil Collins is not able to thwack the drums anymore but I FOR ONE AM GLAD THE HOF and Rolling Stone are finally recognizing his talent and contribution to his work in
rock & roll. He is a brilliant drummer and overall good-hearted bloke. He is the main reason (NOT FORGETTING Peter, Steve, Mike and Tony as well) THAT MY TEENAGE YEARS
we’re also happy in parts. Compared to acts that I now don’t like (Prince, George Michael, Michael Jackson-R.I.P., Metallica
and various other hair bands that don’t deserve the HOF), Genesis were and will always be a breath of fresh air to me. They were the art-rock band for the Common Rabbits who still have an Invisible Touch hopping down Broadway at the Cinema Show who played the game of Robbery Assault, Battery and Abacab that Turned It On Again at the Home by the Sea as they Danced with the Moonlit Knight. On my way to work,
I heard Phil’s last major hit Can’t Stop Loving You and I was happily reminded how much we need Mr. Collins in today’s bleak musical landscape. With his heartfelt tales of Everyday life
(both with Genesis and on his own),
Phil Collins-along with Madonna, U2, Elton John and the Beatles-might be the last example of pop/rock’s Golden Age. To Andrew Greene and David Frick, thanks for being my Stoner friends and supporting Genesis. Finally, thanks Phil for being an inspiration to me. In the beginning there was Charterhouse
-a band was formed-it was Genesis.
Soon after, RS STARTED TO LOVE THEM-and next will be the
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. AND THEN, everyone will sing their fables of life itself. Congratulations on the nomination
and I will always rock hard to the music but always in a dignified and respectful manner. Genesis rock hard and they rule the AOR dial. That’s All-and Rock On Forever!

No doubt, RUSH should be in!

If Kiss is nominated in Jan, I will lost ALL respect for this organization.
It is about rare talent, longevity and importance!
Kiss has none of those three above.
-Only fame, which still confounds me.-
(when radiohead hits 25 years soon, they TRRHF, better r u n at nominate them)

Mark | 9/23/2009, 1:49 pm EST

I agree. Rush deserve it more than anyone on the list. I do however believe that Rush would rather not be bothered. The Hall is a sham. If you’re not in the clique, your not in the Hall.

Lucario | 9/23/2009, 1:49 pm EST

Red Hot Chili Peppers- I know next to nothing about them, save for Give It Away and Under the Bridge. I didn’t even know they were eligible.

LL Cool J- if they wanted another rap act, they should’ve nominated the Sugarhill Gang.

Kiss- Oh, please! They were the Coca-Cola of metal. Dare I say over-popular? They should induct Def Leppard first.

Genesis- they’ll surely be rejected, as progressive rock is too underground for them. If they do induct them, they’ll probably choose Collins instead of Gabriel as an excuse to induct Phil in 2011 as a soloist.

The Stooges- they don’t have much backing.

Donna Summer- she’d probably be a better choice for a disco act.

Darlene Love- who?

Laura Nyro- she wrote many popular songs and performed at Monterey.

Chantels- who?

Hollies- they had a few hits, whoopdydoo

Jimmy Cliff- who?

joel | 9/23/2009, 1:50 pm EST

while i may not agree with all those names above to be nominated. One does scream, to be it:

The Moody Blues !!!!!

RAL | 9/23/2009, 1:50 pm EST

Hey Larry, you sound like Kayne West!WHY IS……. why country western isn’t even in VMA category? That like saying why is there no rocknroll singers or group in the country western or hip-hop HOF. or is there one?

Lucario | 9/23/2009, 1:51 pm EST

ABBA- they’re one of the best selling artists of all time (check Wikipedia), have a musical turned into a film, and were tributed by the A*Teens. However, they’re a silly pop group.

Lucario | 9/23/2009, 1:52 pm EST

Why didn’t my previous post show up?

newyorkjsw | 9/23/2009, 1:52 pm EST

as a rock person to the core, i can tell u that Donna Summer is very talented.

maybe more then many rock groups who r famous !
The Moody Blues & Rush.
Kiss is a joke. always has been, always will indeed be.

NYC | 9/23/2009, 1:53 pm EST

Meaning Moody Blues & Rush, need to be nominated!

kiss is still ajoke

Rob | 9/23/2009, 1:55 pm EST

I’ll take the minority stand on this one, but if Bob Marley and the Wailers are in the Hall, then there is absolutely NO reason why Jimmy Cliff is not there yet. Cliff was making great reggae music before anyone outside of Jamaica had any idea who Bob Marley was.

NYC | 9/23/2009, 1:56 pm EST

King Crimson & The Moody Blues are the ‘real deal’, and expose this rr hall of fame for what it is. strange and very seclet.

done with Kiss… please!

fyviday | 9/23/2009, 1:56 pm EST

RAL-good point and as far as the other HOF who cares!

NYC | 9/23/2009, 1:57 pm EST

anyone who listens to Jimmy Cliff, may want to also listen to Yellowman !!

sonic youth!!! | 9/23/2009, 1:59 pm EST

what about sonic youth, jesus, they are so influential it hurts

Radio Zero | 9/23/2009, 2:03 pm EST

Red Hots should get in…even though Anthony is somewhat the clown shoes. They did bring about something new to rock. Let Kiss in just so we don’t have to hear Gene Simmons whine about it anymore. The Stooges are the no brainers, of course they should be there. Genesis prolly should make it, but only because of the Peter Gabriel era of the band. LL Cool J? Maybe, but I would make him wait a few turns….definately not on the first ballot.

c.Girard | 9/23/2009, 2:09 pm EST

Again, no Mark Knopfler, and or, Dire Straits…What is the matter with this nomanating board? Do they even have a clue about music ? Mark has been making beautiful music for 30 plus years. I can’t think of any musician who deserves it more. Maybe he’s just too intelligent and genteel for these bozos’.

Oshvegas | 9/23/2009, 2:10 pm EST

Bon Jovi anyone, I think if you sell 100+ million albums worldwide in twenty five years, you deserve to be in the rock n’ roll hall. Especially seeing as they are in the British Rock Hall already.

My List deserving induction | 9/23/2009, 2:11 pm EST

These Bands Deserve induction
Alice Cooper
Steve Miller
The Spinners
Grand Funk
Jethro Tull
Deep Purple
Moody Blues
Blood Sweat and Tears
Rush
Foghat
Thin Lizzy
Nazareth
Uriah Heep
Judas Priest
Jim Croce
Foriegner
Earth Wind and Fire
Bad Company
Electric Light Orchestra
Iron Maiden
The Cars
Styx
Mott The Hoople
The Sweet
Slade
Peter Gabriel
Journey
Little Feat
Cheap Trick

Don | 9/23/2009, 2:15 pm EST

Stevie Ray Vaughn, anyone??

And totally agree with putting Alice Cooper in before KISS.

A. Nony Mouse | 9/23/2009, 2:22 pm EST

Alice Cooper
Cheap Trick
Deep Purple
Rush
Yes
all those SHOULD be in!
But who gets a shot?
LL Cool J, ABBA and the Chantels????
WTF?
Kiss before any of the above? Not right. Later, okay, but not first.

Laughs | 9/23/2009, 2:24 pm EST

LL Cool J.

Hilarious to see the rap quota still being enforced. Will Kid N Play get nominated next year?

basser | 9/23/2009, 2:32 pm EST

So glad for Genesis and Kiss. They are deserving. If you put Madonna, Run DMC, Grand Master Flash, Blondie and Talking Heads in, you have to put bands like Kiss and Genesis. I wonder if Collins will play the drums at the induction ceremony, if they make the final 5 list? Collins is having back trouble that is preventing him from playing the drums. Let’s hope Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett are at the induction, too. (And Peter Criss and Ace Frehley).

Vic De Zen | 9/23/2009, 2:33 pm EST

Wow, This is a crazy selection. they are all worthy of it!

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 2:36 pm EST

If they are inducting hip hop and producers and songwriters and r&b artists, why not call it the music hall of fame and induct country, gospel, reggae, salsa, etc? Why just leave it at rock and roll? That’s what is wrong with this country, as great as it is, too many idiots running things.

Rockermama | 9/23/2009, 2:37 pm EST

KISS. Yes. Alice. Yes. What is Rock and Roll…?? Music. Music that moves your soul. To some, it’s LL or Donna Summer. To me, it’s KISS, et al. But who was first. C’mon RRHOF. Let’s set some priorities on who was first and get them inducted. I don’t think it was rap and disco!!

basser | 9/23/2009, 2:39 pm EST

Also, if you are putting LL Cool J on the nominee list, why no:

Rush
Yes
Mott the Hoople
Pete Townshend solo
King Crimson
Roxy Music (who invented New Wave, hello!!)
Peter Gabriel solo
Cheap Trick
Badfinger (again, if you put Madonna in, you have to put Badfinger – they actually put out more LPs than the Stooges)
Free
Faces

I | 9/23/2009, 2:39 pm EST

17 years after they were first eligible and more popular than ever, now that Phil can no longer drum, they are nominated… … go figure.

Chris H | 9/23/2009, 2:40 pm EST

Did someone here say Kiss didn’t have longevity… ? Possibly the most ignorant thing I have ever read.

Austin TX | 9/23/2009, 2:40 pm EST

And what has happened to fans of good rock music? Dont tell me youre into nerdy ‘indie’ music?

Joel | 9/23/2009, 2:48 pm EST

Donna Summer only deserving act on that list to be inducted! ABBA are big, so are KISS, but they are a joke! Rap should be ignored, also rhcp i think will be inducted but i don’t think they should be, as with the stooges.

malcolmkettering | 9/23/2009, 2:52 pm EST

CHEAP TRICK
PAT BENATAR
RUSH
YES
TULL
MOODY BLUES
HEART

Woody | 9/23/2009, 3:09 pm EST

KISS has been going for 35 years plus and is still selling out arenas. And, KISS fans will tell you it IS about the music. Love them or hate them, not one in their right mind can say they don’t belong in the RRHF.

Wonk | 9/23/2009, 3:10 pm EST

The Hall is a joke. Run by a clique
of pretentious,agenda driven snobs.

Simply put,it has Rock n’ Roll in the name so that disqualifies disco and rap artists. It also disqualifies blues artists so i have to be fair and point that out.

Think of a record store, remember them,if an artist would not be in the rock section they should not be eligible. If we include rap and disco artists then why not jazz performers? That simple fact shows how silly the whole idea is. Would Larry Carlton belong in the RRHOF,NO…so why would LL Cool J?

And lastlt,to the poster below who did not know who the Chantels,Jimmy Cliff or Darlene Love are, son, you should sit this argument out until you wear out google, read a few books and listen to some music cuz you are just makin’ yourself look silly.

RUFKM? | 9/23/2009, 3:19 pm EST

No SRV? Again?? Seriously, WTF!?!

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 3:19 pm EST

The actual music of KISS is 100% generic crap.

The only reason anyone even remembers them, is because of their oh-so-cool makeup, spitting of blood, and explosions.

They cater to the lowest common denominator of white trash.

I eagerly await the day when they are finally laid to eternal rest in their Kiss Kaskets.

Juli F | 9/23/2009, 3:26 pm EST

Alice cooper should be before all of them.

Me | 9/23/2009, 3:27 pm EST

Kiss is not the most incredible rock band, but they do put on a good show and have influenced many artists in thier youth. Where is Deep Purple, Genesis, Tull? RUSH? Ever notice how any band with a Prog leaning is totally ignored?? the list could go on and on…

The Sex Pistols are right about the HOF, it really is a joke when Madonna, and others of her ‘Ilk’ are in there.

Randall G | 9/23/2009, 3:31 pm EST

And btw–who are all you Rush fans? God almighty, what a lightweight bullsh*t group they were. And Kiss? F*cking laughingstocks.

Randall G | 9/23/2009, 3:33 pm EST

Kiss? Laughingstocks. Rush? Good god, someone hand me my pistol….

Brian | 9/23/2009, 3:33 pm EST

And who among us hasn’t been waiting for the day when Iggy and Tony Banks got to work together?

SBZ | 9/23/2009, 3:35 pm EST

Some good choices for nominees. Not really a KISS fan but if they did as well as I’ve heard, then they probably deserve to be in the RnR Hall. Don’t really know anything about LL Cool J, but good for him to get nominated. I know I’m biased, as I love this band already, but I’m hoping RHCP get inducted. (I have some other artists I’m hoping for, but whatever. Maybe one day…)

Matt | 9/23/2009, 3:36 pm EST

KISS deserves it over all nominess. But Alice Cooper should be in first. Alice Cooper invented shock rock. LL Cool J is a f-ing joke. I’m so pissed about him being nominated. If he wins The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is runned by a bunch of retards. This Year it should be:
Alice Cooper
KISS
RUSH
GENES IS
Stooges
Deep Purple
The Hollies

Bitman | 9/23/2009, 3:37 pm EST

Way to go, Wonk! You took the words right out of my mouth! Oh, BTW…Jan & Dean! If you don’t know them, Google them. A glaring omission, not that I value anything the R&RHOF does.

Gary8411 | 9/23/2009, 3:45 pm EST

You know… The bands that do have the money should just build their own museum and display all the awards and they have received. I bet Graceland gets more tourist than the RRHOF.And it is way cooler than the RRHOF.KISS and RUSH could easily pull tourists to wherever they build one. That “might” wake up the RRHOF LOLOL! I’ve been to their shows and they were PACKED! They don’t NEED The RRHOF. The fans are their reward at every show.

meh | 9/23/2009, 3:45 pm EST

A band that puts socks on their shlongs,a band that wears makeup and
an 80’s pop rapper turned sitcom star.Meh.

Drunkanuk | 9/23/2009, 3:46 pm EST

Some good points from some posts.
Kiss and Donna Summer shared the same label (Casablanca) who forced
Kiss to try disco (I was made for lovin’ you) which became one of their biggest hits.
Without The Stooges their would be no punk, so WTF are The Sex Pistols already there?
It’s time for Shock/Glam to get recognized…
Alice Cooper
New York Dolls
Mott The Hoople
T-Rex
Slade
Sweet
R oxy Music
The Tubes

Being Canadian, it would be great for a Rush induction but, for some reason you Americans don’t like eskimos.
Too bad, if only Rush was from Lackawanna or Cheektowaga.

BushCrimeFamily | 9/23/2009, 3:48 pm EST

You don’t have to like KISS, but to deny their influence is laughable. They’re way overdue.

Sir finker | 9/23/2009, 3:48 pm EST

Jimmy Buffett.

KenRF87 | 9/23/2009, 3:49 pm EST

I Totally agree with Kiss being inducted…. however NOT before Alice Cooper. Without him there’d be no KISS. Motley Crue should also be inducted. LL Cool J? Really? That’s not rock n roll… let alone music. What next Alvin and The Chimpmunks before Cooper and Crue? They really need to change the name of it to Music Hall Of Fame. Here’s who I think should be inducted:

Alice Cooper
Motley Crue
Iron Maiden
Judas Priest

With bands like U2, Grandmaster Flash, Bobby “Blue” Bland (who the fuck is that anyway) and Prince in the Fame it just makes it one big joke. The Sex Pistols (who doesn’t deserve to be in because of one studio album) got it right when they called the HOF a piss stain

Peter | 9/23/2009, 3:51 pm EST

What evil did ALICE COOPER ever do to HOF? Should have been in years ago…I think Miley Cyrus will be in before Alice.

RC | 9/23/2009, 3:53 pm EST

How is it that the stooges aren’t already in?

Solitary Man | 9/23/2009, 3:56 pm EST

It is a joke that these lightweights get nominated but Neil Diamond (arguably one of the most distinctive guitar-playing,songwriting booming voices of the last 46 years) is ignored. He is the only one still making deep and relevant new music at his age too.

spud | 9/23/2009, 3:59 pm EST

Def Leppard os more deserving than everyone this year with the exception of KISS, and way more deserving than all the bands everyone is posting! Rock and Roll Hall of SHAME!!!

Kaalec | 9/23/2009, 4:07 pm EST

If ABBA gets in, it should open the doors to The 1910 Fruitgum Company, Ohio Expres, and of course, The Archies.

KISS isn’t a band. They’ve been big among corporate rock because they’re a corporation themselves (successful, but not very musical).

Midnight Rambler | 9/23/2009, 4:11 pm EST

there is no way in hell RHCP or LL Cool J should be in thats a load of crap, and Genesis is in no way Rock N Roll, i vote for the Stooges or Kiss

Kaalec | 9/23/2009, 4:13 pm EST

Hey HENRF87. WHO IS BOBBY BLUES BLAND?! He was one of the seminal blues musicians of his generation and if it weren’t for him, BB King, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and other blues greats, there wouldn’t BE any rock ‘n roll.

Your ignorance is appalling and your credibility is “0″.

Ramiro | 9/23/2009, 4:28 pm EST

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a JOKE! Bands like Rush, Yes and Iron Maiden – comprised of musicians of unbelievable skills – are more deserving than many of the acts already inducted or on the current ballot. Induct based on the music, please.

Steven R. | 9/23/2009, 4:32 pm EST

ABBA yes, Laura Nyro yes. No to the rest, until Guess Who, Jethro Tull and Rush are inducted. Styx is a better choice than Kiss.

Schmidtay | 9/23/2009, 4:35 pm EST

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are incredibaly deserving. BSSM, Californication, By the Way and Stadium Arcadium are all classics. Few artists have made so many great albums. Their earlier work is well deserving too as they pretty much pioneered funk-fused rock and somewhat unfortunately whiteboy rap-rock. Frusciante is a guitar god and Flea can slappa da bass!

PatrickD. | 9/23/2009, 4:36 pm EST

THE STOOGES!! You are missing it again Hall of Fame! They should have been years ago……….RIP Ron!!

Jason | 9/23/2009, 4:36 pm EST

Genesis, Kiss, LL Cool J, RHCP, Cliff, the hollies are all deserving. It is a bit early for LL though. I think they just wanted to draw in a more diverse crowd for the show.

The bands that should be up next are: Rush, Cheap Trick, The Cure, Yes, Alice Cooper, Thin Lizzy

And how about some love for arena rock like: Boston, Kansas, and Journey?

Tingleyfeeln | 9/23/2009, 4:37 pm EST

I’m not blindly against or for hip hop artists getting inducte, but I don’t think LL had the crossover appeal or influence that Run DMC or the Beasties, or even PE had.

As for some of the above suggested snubs: hell yes Alice Cooper should be in, but I’m not sold on Yes. Sorry, no significant lasting influence.
Also, Motorhead, Iggy as a solo artist, Link Wray, the MC5, New York Dolls, Maiden, and X should also get nods. Sorry, not too keen on Priest, they just never did it for me. Too mechanical.

Madtownmoxie | 9/23/2009, 4:40 pm EST

It’s a joke. Without Warren Zevon, Rush and Devo in by now. Not to mention . And Cheap Trick not being in is a travesty, if not for Live at Budokan alone possbly teh greatest live album ever! Not to mention the fact that their influence alone has shaped gobs of Power Pop and Punk Pop bands such as Green day!

No offense to LL Cool J but it almost seems like now they have to throw a Rap act in each year just to be PC.

The R&R HOF | 9/23/2009, 4:45 pm EST

is a complete joke. Obviously they do not even know what Rock & Roll is.

For next year’s ballot I recommend Lawrence Welk

Marion | 9/23/2009, 4:50 pm EST

I have visited the Hall of Fame in Cleveland and in NYC and can’t help but scratch my head over some of those atrists who are in and some who are omitted… can’t figure out the logic of nominating KISS while overlooking Alice Cooper (I’m not really a big fan of either, but Alice Cooper was an original, and an actual artist to boot. KISS was/is as contrived as “The Monkees.”)

And I like LL Cool J enough, but does he really deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame at this point??? Abba??? Why would they be nominated before:

Heart (Come on already!)
Deep Purple
Jethro Tull
Chicago
Bernie Taupin (yes)
Rush
The Cure

Those are a few I can think of off the top of my head… again, I am not huge fans of all, but I can see reasons why they should be included over some of those who are in the HOF. I agree with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Genesis, and The Hollies, but Jeez…

What’s the logic, anyway? Who comes up with these nominations?

Heart
Deep Purple
Chicago
Jeth

tom | 9/23/2009, 4:51 pm EST

“And where is Laura Nyro?”

In the land of obscurity where she belongs.

Kim | 9/23/2009, 4:51 pm EST

How about pete townshend as a solo, Hall & Oates?

tom | 9/23/2009, 4:54 pm EST

“Your ignorance is appalling and your credibility is “0″.”

Well then, that would make your credibility negative 32, since you dont think kiss belongs in there.

Robert Denby | 9/23/2009, 5:01 pm EST

The Replacements? Husker Du? No, sorry. Got to make room for those rock gods ABBA.

The New Kids on the Block should start working on their acceptance speeches.

SolarDiva | 9/23/2009, 5:02 pm EST

Was that Rock -n- Roll Hall of Fame or Shame can never remember once when I was a budding guitar player I wanted in, that was once, Kiss should tell them to Kiss This with out them and Alice Cooper their would be no SolarDiva or Rush and many other bands of early 70’s and besides millions of copies sold and millions of fans and growing, So I have 10 fans, 6 family members 3 dogs and I just got today, hope I can reach the heights of Cooper and Kiss and Rush and grow up to be a big Rock Star.

Edz | 9/23/2009, 5:04 pm EST

I agree – A Genesis reunion with Peter Gabrial, an Abba reunion (though I wouldn’t hold my breath, after all Madonna didn’t perform) and Kiss in the same night. Holy Cow!!!!

Only one thing with Kiss. Gene and Paul, bring everyone with you. Not just your hired guns in costume (Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer) Yes, that means Ace & Peter. Yes that means Bruce Kulick. Yes bring someone to repersent Eric Carr. Ok.. maybe Vinny Vincent is optional.

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 5:19 pm EST

what the hell is up with people trying to get Hall & Oats in here, they almost deserve it less than RHCP, and on that note what the hell is with RHCP, ABBA, and LL Cool J being even considered on here, the only two in my mind who deserve it are The Stooges, and Kiss, also if RHCP is being considered then its high time The Flaming Lips get put in

Billy P | 9/23/2009, 5:34 pm EST

As you can see from all the previous posts there are a ton of deserving acts that have been snubbed by the RockHall so far. I think on of the biggest omissions is Chicago. Probably discounted because of their power-ballad crap in the 80s…had they all perished in a plane crash in 1979 they’d have been inducted 15 years ago!!

Rock music fans argue a lot about pretty much everything. But the one thing everyone can agree on is that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sucks. A lot.

dear god | 9/23/2009, 6:15 pm EST

I’m all for hip hop artists being inducted but LL Cool J? Seriously? Is that the best you can do?

Lowdown | 9/23/2009, 6:17 pm EST

Kiss is a rock and roll band. Kiss has sold millions of records and has played to millions of fans over the course of 30+ years. They are releasing an album of new music soon which will no doubt sell strongly and support a massive worldwide tour. Like it or not, they are a deserving addition to the Hall. For those doubters, listen to Kiss Alive and tell me it doesn’t rock. Yes, they (Gene) can be tough to take at times, but they belong there.

no bueno | 9/23/2009, 6:20 pm EST

I’m glad the stooges are being considered but RHCP before bands like the Pixies and Sonic Youth?

markus | 9/23/2009, 6:37 pm EST

ABBA truly deserve this, millions of fans are sill in love with the music, having sold almost 400 million worldwide, two of the most beautiful voices in the world Agnetha and Frida , and the genius songwriting team Anderson and Ulveaus!!! OMG an ABBA reunion would be every fans dream come true! so yes ABBA ?? REALLY !!!!!!

True metalhead. | 9/23/2009, 6:38 pm EST

Give me a break Rolling Stone. Do you actually think ANY rock bands were influenced by Abba, LL COOL J, or Donna Summer? Give me a break. You are the same people that think Madonna has even an ounce of significance in the industry.

Name one song LL Cool J did.

Thanks, suckers.

RRHoFsuks | 9/23/2009, 6:41 pm EST

What about Deep Purple, the Moody Blues, Three Dog Night, Badfinger, Bad Company, Alice Cooper, Chicago, CJ & the Fish, The Hollies, The Doobie Brothers, Robin Trower, Procul Harum, Traffic, Small Faces or Faces, Heart, Boston, Genesis, Black Flag, X, The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Mountain, Spirit, Def Leppard, MC5, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Judas Priest, UFO, Steppenwolf, Jethro Tull, Motorhead, The Searchers, Electric Light Orchestra, John Mayall, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Link Wray, Grand Funk Railroad, The Steve Miller Band, Ten Years After, Free, Rush, Sweet, NY Dolls, Humble Pie, Mott the Hoople, Emerson,Lake,& Palmer; Jim Croce and Yes?

Even Neil Diamond, Johnny Rivers, The Association, or the Monkees would have been better choices and more Rock and Roll than inductees like Percy Sledge, Madonna, Leonard Cohen, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, The Flamingos, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, and Brenda Lee.

If they really want truth in advertising they should change the name of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to the Music Critics Hall of Fame.

Rael | 9/23/2009, 6:58 pm EST

It’s about time that Genesis is on the ballot. They are one of the greatest bands of all time. Phil collin’s contribution to Rock & Roll is really unmatched. And if you think I am just speaking of his solo albums then you are an idiot. Phil produced and/or was a session player on many many great albums in the 70’s and 80’s. He played drums on most of Eric Clapton;s albums in the 80’s as well as Peter Gabriel’s. He even played drums on George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass. That’s more than any solo member of the Grateful Dead has done, Jann. (P.S. I like the Dead, so no offense. I am just commenting on Jann’s personal taste over the years vs. contribution).

vern | 9/23/2009, 7:07 pm EST

LL Cool J (J for JIVE TURKEY) should not be considered for anything but having NO TALENT!!! PLEASE GIVE US A BREAK….CAN ANYONE SAY DESPERATION??? Nominating parties need to get their heads out of their a**es!

LoopGuru | 9/23/2009, 7:25 pm EST

I do think Rush is worthy(unlike RCHP, who should aim for the FratBoy Slacker Hall instead), but Yes made Rush possible and they aren’t there yet for some unknown reason. Never thought that much of the Hall, but Madonna’s entry wrung the last drop of credibility out of it for me anyway.

LoopGuru | 9/23/2009, 7:26 pm EST

Uh, make that RHCP (see how little an impression they make on me?).

JD | 9/23/2009, 7:28 pm EST

Genesis, the Hollies, Abba, Donna Summer and Kiss would be my choices from the list of nominees. Hopefully, if Genesis is inducted, it would open the door for prog rock acts like Yes, Tull and the Moodies to be considered. I’m happy for the Hollies which would mean that all of CSN&Y will have been inducted twice. And I think the Zombies should be inducted someday as well. And ABBA is long overdue.

KISS and the Stooges for sure though.

It’s a good day for KISS fans. KISS is a significant band in Rock and Roll music like it or not. Many performers today exist because of them.
The HOF was never fair, ALL to political. True we need Alice, Humble Pie, Rainbow, Purple, J. Geils Band, Steppenwolf, Ronnie James Dio, RUSH to name a few. Most opened for KISS by the way! What is twisting me is that L.L whatever is going to be there…just proves it is all BS. Bottom line folks just put on your favorite albums and continue enjoying them. F em!

Why in the world is Cheap Trick snubbed again this year? The have influenced bands as diverse as Nirvana, Pearl Jam, STP all the way to Poison and Motley Crue and GNR. 35 year later and they are STILL on the road with the original line-up. Laura Nyro and The Chantals? WTF? Who would even think to put them on the nomination list much less make the final ballot?
Unbelievable.

roadrunner | 9/24/2009, 12:35 am EST

I love or like most of the acts nominated. Still I don’t see why
ABBA should be in. ABBA are the definition of squeaky pop music. Donna Summer actually did rock based tracks and her attitude towards sex was also influential on female rockers. The one band I actually don’t like is Kiss and I’ll admit they should be in. Not because of the quality of their music, but because along with the likes of the Ramones, the Sex Pistols, and the so far overlooked Stooges they have been hugely influential whether one likes it or not. And yes Alice Cooper does deserve to be in there way before Kiss. As for prog bands not getting love from the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame, well that’s because with the exception of Peter Gabriel era Genesis and King Krimson, they suck. That’s why the punks came along and reminded everyone that rock n roll is not a half hour tune of ungodly pretentious neo-classical garbage. I don’t have a problem with rappers being in there, especially early ones like Grandmaster Flash and Run DMC because rock and rap were overlapping at that point. LL though as much as I like him is more straightforward r n b. Sugar Hill Gang and Public Enemy should get in long before him. But that assumes that any of this matters, which of course it doesn’t. It’s self-congratulatory bullshit and to sell tickets to the museums. Let’s hope the Stooges get in so Iggy can really mess the place up during the ceremony. Blood and peanut butter, baby.

metal man | 9/24/2009, 12:39 am EST

its the rock and roll hall of fame ll cool j has no business being there as he is neither rock nor had any influence on it as a genre whatever happened to iron maiden or judas priest, they pioneered the most long lived genre ever and are no where here

gwar conqueror | 9/24/2009, 12:47 am EST

Toby Tyler, I am of Gwar, the gods of the rock n roll universe. If you believe Rush is rock n roll, you are a heathen unbeliever and my unholy siblings and I will drink vinegar and mead from your skull. Rock n Roll is about sex and violence in no particular order. To wit, Rolling Stones, the Doors, the Stooges, the Ramones – these are rock n roll. Rush, REO Speedwagon, Boston, ELO leave women dry and real men limp. Only weak-handed wankers believe these awful creatures from the geekverse to be anything that resembles rock n roll. I would say you are damned but I’ll not inflict your cream cheese on Lucifer, who does know a thing or two about rock n roll. Eat my salami.

Michael | 9/24/2009, 12:56 am EST

WHERE THE FUCK IS RUSH???

Stooge Magoo | 9/24/2009, 1:12 am EST

I hope the Stooges get in just so Iggy can kill everyone with his mike stand like he nearly does to his bands a lot of the time when he’s playing live. And even though I think Kiss’ music is generic, I hope they get in so they can help their Detroit brothers the Stooges bring the roof down with sheer volume on whoever survives Iggy’s initial onslaught. After that, the Stooges and Kiss need to proseletyze to all their fans that any pasty ELO and Rush afficianados must be destroyed wherever they are found. Prog Rock and Soft Rock are not rock & roll. Jumpin’ Geezuz on a pogostick. These mofos are complaining that LL Cool J is not rock & roll. At least he gets laid which I doubt of Jethro Tull. A flute is not sexy unless you have a preference for men and in that case you’d do better with Judas Priest. At least they don’t look like some woolly version of the Piped Piper of Hamelin and they play blistering rock. Thick as a brick indeed, dungeon and dragon geeks. Search and destroy, Iggy, search and destroy with your raw power.

Why Not ABBA? | 9/24/2009, 2:18 am EST

Look, people… Yeah, maybe it should be called the “music hall of fame”. The term “Rock and Roll” is clearly being used to include all artists in the modern music era!! WAKE UP! Look at the people / bands that have been inducted over the years…. In general – heavy “rock” music didn’t really blossom until the 70’s….where do you think those bands got THEIR influence from?! HUH?!

ABBA totally deserves a nod. Not influential?? You’re just not informed. They sold 360 million records worldwide; they were music video pioneers. Today, Stockholm is a major location to record music for many artists – period! They should have been inducted back in 2003 when they got their first nomination……

Their manager, Stig Anderson, should get in just by himself as a “pioneer” in the way he ran their business.

Jill | 9/24/2009, 2:19 am EST

The Pixies should be there. They’ve influenced just about every alt-rock band that came out of the 90’s. Most notably Nirvana and Radiohead!

nickmiller71 | 9/24/2009, 3:14 am EST

Journey and Rush please? I think so.

Weegie | 9/24/2009, 3:15 am EST

The Stooges have been overlooked by the hall for 15 years now, they’re obviously a no-brainer, they should have been in in 1994. The Hall overlooked Gene Vincent and Jimmy Reed for years before musicians themselves who are in the hall bothered the hall long enough to get them in. Time for The Stooges to be in… Raw Power, Fun House, 2 albums that completely changed the course of rock and roll. Donna Summer deserves to be in. They’re really the only 2 that should be in this year. The Replacements are one of the greatest bands of all time and should have been in their first year. Husker Du should be in. The NY Dolls. Warren Zevon is a no brainer. Tom Waits. John Prine. Motorhead. All MUCH better picks than the ones they’ve chosen this year besides The Stooges. The Hall is for Popular Music, ie – Non Classical and Jazz which have no connection with rock and roll. The blues, gospel, country, soul, funk, rap, pop, reggae…..they all should be included under the blanket term “Rock and Roll”. The Hall without Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Marley, Hank Williams,Funkadellic, James Brown, Run DMC, Professor Longhair…..are you kiddin’ me ?? Of course they should all be in. And as always RUSH is The Worst Band of all Time. Pompous, laughable lyrics, godawful Jazz/Rock, the worst voice and singer of all time……KISS is also a joke but is a little more believable being in the hall.

Weegie | 9/24/2009, 3:26 am EST

The Faces, Derek and the Dominos, and X are 3 more that also should have been in long ago ;)

Weegie | 9/24/2009, 3:44 am EST

ELO ? Journey ? Doobie Brothers ?!? Motley Fookin’ Crue ? RUSH ? YES ? Judas Priest ? Boston ? Cheap Trick ?These bands seem to be listed the most often as overlooked….er…this could also pass as a list of some of the worst bands of all time. These bands were awful in the 70’s and 80’s and in retrospect seem even Worse in 2009.

Simon G. | 9/24/2009, 3:51 am EST

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has made a joke of itself.

LL Cool J? Are you serious? That is HORRIBLE.

Abba? Donna Summer? Do any of these artists career output really warrant being in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame?

WHAT A FARCE

Bill Fazekas | 9/24/2009, 4:20 am EST

It’s about time GENESIS was nominated, and they should absolutely be selected as a 2009 inductee. But until RUSH is selected, with their 3 names etched in the wall along side those of PINK FLOYD and FRANK ZAPPA, the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame will remain a farce. That RUSH wasn’t recognized for their genius musical and lyrical talent long ago, is unacceptable and disgraceful. Make it happen in 2010!!!

Stooge Magoo | 9/24/2009, 4:23 am EST

The Mox | 9/24/2009, 5:40 am EST

I’m actually reading through every post and I had to stop at this comment about KISS.

“…can’t figure out the logic of nominating KISS while overlooking Alice Cooper (I’m not really a big fan of either, but Alice Cooper was an original, and an actual artist to boot. KISS was/is as contrived as “The Monkees.”)”

Look, take your personal love/hate for the band and check the facts. Yes, Cooper is the originator of shock rock. He should have been in decades ago. Period. However, the fact that he is not in the RRHF holds no substance of why KISS should not be inducted.

KISS have sold more gold records than any other US band…yes, they are in fact a real band. SO the sales are there. They clearly have longevity…1974-present. And God forbid we spoke about Influence. Ask Vinnie Paul of Pantera why he has a tattoo on his chest or why Weezer & Cheap Trick reference KISS in their lyrics. They have one of the largest registered band fan clubs in the world – KISS Army. KISS’ live performances still sell-out stadiums worldwide and have even broken records previously set by The Beatles. You cannot say that KISS’ originality in their showcase concerts did not shape the way most of the decade of the 80’s framed their live shows.

Yes, Cooper influenced them more than any…but KISS took it to another level live, and the masses loved them for it.

So, whether you love’em or hate’em…KISS’ claim to Rock n Roll fame is ever present and undeniable.

M

On a side note: To induct LL Cool J would be a disservice to the genre of Rock n Roll music.

What does the RnR establishment (oxymoron alert) have against RUSH?

Knucklehead | 9/24/2009, 7:05 am EST

There’s some cool, worthy names on this list, for sure, but overall it really seems like an uninspired lineup. Is it really already time to consider the Chili Peppers? If so, there are definitely a lot of truly influential acts from their era that deserve it sooner. What about Black Flag, Sonic Youth and X? Even Flea and Anthony must be scratching their heads about that. If getting nominated is just going to be about record sales now, then who cares? The annual list of nominees is going to get more and more embarassing every year.

RR hall of fame is a joke. | 9/24/2009, 7:14 am EST

Would Kiss get into the Hip-Hop hall of fame? Then why the foq does LL Cool J get nominated?

why bother? | 9/24/2009, 8:05 am EST

RRHOF is’nt what it should be. So why bother with it. A NEW institute should be built to celebrate influential pioneers of ROCK AND ROLL artists and the history of ROCK AND ROLL. Maybe call it, THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME.

tony montana | 9/24/2009, 8:22 am EST

for those of you talkin trash on kiss…well i bet you’ve only heard 2 songs and then looked at their image then said what a bunch of losers.
this is what happens when people don’t know shit=they talk it.
kiss has influenced many bands especially ace frehley’s guitar playing.
ace is respected and artist like dimebag darrell etc were influenced by him
kiss has also made one of the greatest live albums ever with Alive and albums like destroyer are stone cold classics.
even rolling stone who’s the biggest snob included these albums in their greatest list as well as countless others.
kiss made rock n’ roll fun and exciting and classics like strutter, calling dr. love, deuce, 100,000years, detroit rock city, makin’ love, cold gin, and black diamond will continue to rock because they really rock and are well written.
ihave no respect for this bullshit their pulling off now with players in former bandmates costumes and kiss’s fucked greed but you can’t deny the classic years and it’s impact on millions.
this wasn’t done just by a great show but with some classic music.
if the music was no good then this band would have fell off the face of the earth!
if kiss does get in then i hope they bring the originals ace frehley and peter criss because no matter how much credit gene wants to take…ace helped majorly create their sound and no matter how hard tommy thayer tries he can’t reproduce it.
it belongs to ace!

Wes Man | 9/24/2009, 8:37 am EST

How is it Neil Diamond is once again ignored? He has been releasing music and performing for 5 decades! You can count on one hand the solo artists still doing that. He has been an influence on a lot of artists, has been covered MANY MANY times, has sold out countless shows, and I just love the fact he has Elvis’ drummer Ronnie Tutt drumming for him. WHO makes these decisions?….the vote should go to the fans for both nominations and entry. There would be a lot less argument and dismay. I agree with above poster about Bernie Taupin. Last statement..LL CoolJ – WTF?

NG | 9/24/2009, 8:59 am EST

Kiss and LL Cool J prove that Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame is meaningless.

dlt | 9/24/2009, 9:01 am EST

Iggy is twenty-two in the picture. And Danny Fileds (later of the Ramones) gave him dat Eric Carmen hairdo.

Go, Link Wray

why bother? | 9/24/2009, 9:39 am EST

Now why did you have to put Kiss in the same sentence with LL Cool J.? Kiss is a classic American Hard Rock band whom more than deserves to be reconized. LL? I don’t know, whats he got to do with ROCK N’ ROLL.

Avid Genesis Fan | 9/24/2009, 9:53 am EST

I am so glad that Genesis has finally been recognized. Their classically-influenced early work with intricate musical signatures was, until now, not appreciated. Their evolution into pop may have been criticized by retro-fans but just think how much talent contributed to their evolution. As for Gabriel vs. Collins, they get along privately and have worked together post-Gabriel/Genesis, so Gabrielites, please get over Gabriel’s departure from the group. All members of the group, past and present, are valuable.

Jimmey88 | 9/24/2009, 10:23 am EST

Iron Maiden deserves the introduction more than any other band! Really BIG shame they´re not inducted! Absolutely unbelievable!

d'yerman | 9/24/2009, 10:26 am EST

Fuck RUSH! Canadian rock music sucks- Nickelback, Glass Tiger, Cory Hart, their shit list is endless…

Pfigg | 9/24/2009, 10:48 am EST

Alice Cooper is better off in the grand company of other worthy bands that have also been snubbed. The Hall of Fame cannot be taken seriously by those who truly know appreciate real rock and roll and its origins.

Bribri | 9/24/2009, 10:52 am EST

I’m a big fan of a lot of acts left out of R&RHOF. Neil Diamond, Deep Purple, Rush, Chicago, KISS and others are all influential and deserving in their own way. But are we at a point now where every year a couple of acts that have been deserving for years finally get in to the elite club while at the same time trying to induct more recently eligible acts? If so, there’s certainly acts that need to go in before others. And is it a coincidence that KISS has a new product to push at the same time? KISS is certainly as deserving as some not in there yet (sorry, I was 11 when I got into them – they always have that sentimental place for me), but shouldn’t Alice Cooper go in before them? Hollies and RHCP should go in for sure this year based on merit.

Jeff501959@Hotmail.com | 9/24/2009, 11:07 am EST

I can see Kiss getting nominated and it’s about fucking time. They’ve influenced lord knows, how many bands. Same thing for Genesis, the Stooges, and the Hollies. But LL Kool J and the RHCP? No way? What about Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Rush? Do they have to start kissing Jann Wenner’s ass before they get in there?

Paul | 9/24/2009, 11:39 am EST

Why the fuck is Nigel Tufnel’s pic posted here? Did Spinal Tap get elected?

Cornette | 9/24/2009, 11:49 am EST

Kiss should decline it just for the fact that they were passed over for years. Ace Frehley is one of the most influential guitar players of all time! RUSH, ELO, should be there.. LL is great, but not for Rock Hall, start a Hip Hop hall! would they induct KISS or Aerosmith into it!???? This magaizine stinks too!

mezzanine | 9/24/2009, 11:52 am EST

This is the ROCK N’ ROLL hall of fame we’re talking about? Right?

Just asking because I read that there is a rapper and some disco fever nominees among other non – rock n’ roll acts …

Colin Gibbs | 9/24/2009, 11:56 am EST

SO, we are all in agreement – the RRHOF is a quango, run by a bunch of buffoons who have a vested interest in blocking tslented bands who have [whether you personally like their music or not] created a substabtive back catalogue of work which at the VERY LEAST ought to be RECOGNISED and RESPECTED. I have read so many comments by you all and certain things surprised me: 1] There are so many out there who are usually the silent majority until they get a bee in their bonnet; and 2] that silent majority prove that in the world of “serious” music and artist appreciation even in the year 2009, many, many people who KNOW what they are talking about having listened to and enjoyed a variety of quality music for many years seem to be recognising the excellence of YES and RUSH in particular.

Isn’t that encouraging and pleasing? Despite no/bad PR, no record company support or marketing, to radio play and the passing of decades, this music and indeed these bands live on. There was a name for this in the early seventies – Underground Music – this became the biggest selling most interesting era for a time and spawned a large number of the greatest artists of a generation.

They sold milliond of albums and have millions of fans even now.

The best material of YES and RUSH is magnificent and deserves its place in the Hall of Fame.

Rabid Fan | 9/24/2009, 12:15 pm EST

Lou Reed goddamit

Ricky | 9/24/2009, 12:17 pm EST

“The Rock Hall is a place where the “critics” can get back at the masses, a kind of, “we ultimately determine which bands deserve formal recognition” attitude. What a shame.”

That’s because the mass audience follows trends and popularity. The UK Music Hall of Fame tried the public induction and it ended up with The Beatles being inducted with Robbie Williams. If we tried that here, sure deserving guys like KISS and Rush go in, but so could BSB and NSYNC in a few years (and votes) time. No dice for me.

Yes, critic recognition isn’t as good as they say it is. But sometimes mass public recognition is a lot worse.

dannydrummer | 9/24/2009, 12:22 pm EST

What a JOKE!! At least for the most part. Donna Summer again? WTF??? Chantells? Darlen Love?? Laura Nyro??? LL Cool J!!!??????ABBA!!!!????? The only ones worthy are Genesis and Kiss. Now where are Rush!!!!!???????? Alice Cooper???? Yes????? King Crimson????? Iron Maiden??? Judas Priest??? DEEP PURPLE!!!! Jeez. It just shows how out of touch these people are…

2112 | 9/24/2009, 12:25 pm EST

This is the list again? Where is Rush? Rush??? Where is Rush??? Here Rush?? Where is Rush? Rush Rush Rush. Rush. Rush. Rush Rush Rush.

Flea | 9/24/2009, 12:29 pm EST

RHCP , no contest :D

The Chili Peppers actually created diverse music at the time when they first started, where as Kiss, everything sounds the same !

mooch | 9/24/2009, 12:34 pm EST

I still dont understand how LL Cool J can even be considered. I have nothing against but his music is a totally different genre then Rock N Roll. I felt the same way when Run DMC was inducted. They should be in the Rap HOF. Again nothing against their type of music. If thats the case why dont they put in Frank Sinatra, etc

Anonymous | 9/24/2009, 12:42 pm EST

I hope and pray that the RHCP will make it! They are my absolute fave band in the whole world. But, seriously, LL Cool J? Since when is he R&R?

Steely Fred | 9/24/2009, 12:54 pm EST

If anyone from the Rock Hall of Fame is reading this, just realize you will never get a dime of my business so long as this madness continues. There are very significant and important ROCK bands not in the hall. Please stop the fucking madness!!!!!

His Prince Michael | 9/24/2009, 1:04 pm EST

LL? Uh, wow. Didn’t he win a
Grammy for “his” song “Don’t
Jack Wit Love”? Oops, I mean,
uh, “Hey Lover”.

kb | 9/24/2009, 1:04 pm EST

the Rock Hall is a joke. nothing against those nominated but to look over Rush and Alice Cooper etc…

klaatu | 9/24/2009, 1:56 pm EST

RHCP, Genesis, ABBA and Kiss should get the nod.

Genesis was a hit-making machine in the 80’s and some of their stuff still has staying power (That’s All, Invisible Touch, Land of Confusion).

ABBA, well say what you want, but the songs were catchy and the girls had great vocal harmonies. Another “soundtrack of a generation” band

RHCP, one of my favorites. Their early recordings were raw and energetic; their newer material at turns soulfull, reflective and exhuberant.

I never liked Kiss and I still don’t. But it is obvious that they belong in the Hall of Fame, even if I don’t care if never here Christine Sixteen again.

klaatu | 9/24/2009, 1:57 pm EST

durn it, I misspelled “hear”

circle of fear | 9/24/2009, 2:07 pm EST

The name or word rock’n’ roll has been misleading in terms of the choices they select yrly 4 the RNR HOF. Those judges or committee of judges need to be replaced or familiarized themselves with what good quality music is and about. I am with the majority here. There are too many, many times over that some of the best ever bands are passed on and overlooked never to be recognized for their contributions. (I wonder in my lifetime if I will still be around if RUSH, YES, King Crimson & Iggy Pop will ever be honored.)
Alice Cooper. Iggy Pop. King Crimson. Yes. Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Johnny Winter Group. Rush (Geddy Lee/Neil Peart & Alex Lifeson). Just to name a “few” here.
For Genesis (Tony Banks/Mike Rutherford/Peter Gabriel & Phil Collins who all have solo albums as well)& Red Hot Chili Peppers, I’m glad that they are being honored. Remember, Long Live Rock. Rock & Roll never forgets. It’s only rock’n’ roll but I like it. I love rock and roll.

circle of fear | 9/24/2009, 2:12 pm EST

OOOPPPSSSSSSS! PS: Steve Hackett is also a member of Genesis from that period. He played a vital role with his fine guitar playing.

The Cure. Depeche Mode.

Lynn | 9/24/2009, 2:26 pm EST

Red Hot Chili Peppers rocks the world!

Please, DON`T ABBA! This is horrible… (Sorry for all ABBA-Fans…)

circle of fear | 9/24/2009, 2:35 pm EST

The top twenty-five submitted by Garrett Jennings is a great choice and an example of those forgotten (but not by us the ever faithful listners) artists by the committee of the RNR HOF.

Basterd from a Basket! | 9/24/2009, 2:35 pm EST

Where is Kraftwerk?

Wuh | 9/24/2009, 2:39 pm EST

No legitimacy whatsoever – NONE. This should be called the “Recording Artists” Hall of Fame. HipHop acts, Madonna, what next? Britney Spears?? WTF. It’s like inducting Metallica into the Jazz Hall of Fame. I agree, the Sex Pistols had it right!

circle of fear | 9/24/2009, 2:41 pm EST

Kraftwork rules too! Depeche Mode would have never existed if it weren’t for Kraftwork.
Kraftwork’s style of music influenced DM as as well.
So did KMFDM too.

tony | 9/24/2009, 2:47 pm EST

Kiss is Rock and roll… Influenced more bands then you can imagine and there music is underated. Paul Stanley has one of the greatest Rock and Roll voices of all time.Whether you like it or not. There are a bunch of average musician’s that hit it big. Do you think either one of the stones guitar players are great? No. But they play great together and right good music. Not sayin kiss is the rolling stones, they are not! But a great band that changed the face of music forever!

Andrew Scott | 9/24/2009, 2:57 pm EST

I suppose I don’t understand how they define Rock & Roll. I thought of Donna Summer as a pop singer who made disco music. Laura Nyro’s music was easy listening.

Two of my favorite bands of the 70s were King Crimson and Yes. In my humble opinion they have more to do with rock music than many of the artists up for induction.

JohnnyWhore | 9/24/2009, 3:01 pm EST

Hopefully KISS will tell them to piss off. The Hall of Fame really doesn’t mean anything, the fact that Run DMC has been inducted before them and countless others makes me care less. If you want to put up a shrine for who has hurt Rock the most, put the rap stars and Michael Jackson in a corner, otherwise keep them out!

Wm | 9/24/2009, 3:48 pm EST

Another year without Eddie Money being nominated. He represents a whole genre of down to earth blue collar classic rock that should be acknowledged in his lifetime.

tim | 9/24/2009, 3:53 pm EST

kiss before Alice Cooper do these people really have any idea about rock n roll

Vince | 9/24/2009, 4:00 pm EST

I think the rock & roll hall of fame needs to read all these comments. They need to realize how many people there pissing off. A majority of these people say ALice Cooper belongs in the HOF. I f-ing agree strongly. So I think they should nominate one more person and make f-ing ALICE COOPER!!!!!!! Schools Out, 18, under my wheels, billion dollar babies, be my lover, ballad of dwight fry, only women bleed, you & me, is it my body, muscle of love, elected, welcome to my nightmare, poison, etc… so many good songs….

Jim | 9/24/2009, 4:30 pm EST

Not nominating Cheap Trick is just plain wrong, a cheap trick in its own right. Rolling Stone touted their early work for years, and RS has always looked back fondly on those albums — In Color, Heaven Tonight, At Budokan, portions of Dream Police, not to mention a bunch of individual songs. “Surrender” remains a classic. Even mentions KISS, for Gene Simmons’ sake.

THE WISE ONE | 9/24/2009, 5:16 pm EST

Alice should get in before KISS. To suggest otherwise is just plain stupid, much like the R&RHoF electing committee…….

And again, no nod for the mighty J. Geils Band………

What a lack of intelligence and respect for one of the greatest American bands ever…..

Shame…….

Weegie | 9/24/2009, 5:33 pm EST

99 % of the people who should be in The Hall are in….there’s only a few misses. Some of the lesser acts are debatable, Frankie Lymon, Jackson Browne……The only 2 outright horrible picks so far are Metallica and James Taylor (Moronic Metal Duuuuuuuuuuuuuudes and Limp Dick Mellow Rock). The Hall has covered the bases well, they know what they’re doing. As far horrible 70’s acts like RUSH, Yes, ELO, Journey….there seem to be alot of “I was a teenager in 1977″ burn-outs logging into RS.com ;) That was some of the worst music ever recorded, pretentious art rock/prog that almost killed Rock and Roll until The Stooges influence finally kicked in and gave birth to the Pistols, Ramones, Clash and the like. Um, sorry to break it to you, but you have really really bad taste in music if you think that Prog Rockkkkk group is good music. Smart people run the Hall, it’s why you don’t. RHCP ? Pffftt..Frat Boy Rock, obviously nominated because they’re a “name” band. The Hall should function like the Baseball Hall, if there isn’t a group of strong candidates in any one year, just don’t induct anyone…base it on a set percentage of votes needed to get in. Going through my own mental list and looking at other commenters suggestions, the most deserving acts right now who should be in are –
SRV
Sonic Youth
X
Warren Zevon
Tom Waits
NY Dolls
Black Flag
Husker Du
Lou Reed (solo)
LL is an odd nomination, Public Enemy should be the next rap act to be considered after Run DMC, LL had a nice start to his career but has morphed into a TV actor. After PE, Wu Tang should be up next.
So you knuckleheads think the Hall is a joke because they don’t have awful Prog Rock in it ? They have Chuck Berry, Hank Williams, Muddy Waters, The Stones….they’ve covered most everyone who should be in and The Hall is beautiful it would take 3 days to fully walk it and take it all in. There’s one small room just for Hank Williams beautiful embroidered suits, his famous white suit with and hat…

StephenW | 9/24/2009, 5:54 pm EST

Consider the introductory paragraph on the “RR”HoF’s web site’s Inductee List” page…

“Leaders in the music industry joined together in 1983 to establish the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. One of the Foundation’s many functions is to recognize the contributions of those who have had a significant impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of rock and roll by inducting them into the Hall of Fame.”

Sounds like a mission statement to me. Like most of corporate America’s mission statements, it’s meaningless bullshit. Unfortunately, my g-g-generation’s to blame.

Stooge Magoo | 9/24/2009, 6:49 pm EST

Hey Weegie,

Let’s not forget about Bauhaus and the Cramps. Those two bands actually single-handedly created new genres (goth and psychobilly)which are still thriving. And I’m saying Bauhaus even though I’m not their biggest fan, but unlike Rush and ELO, Bauhaus and the Cramps are still influencing new bands today. Oh and let’s also not forget about New Order. How did this board become dominated by middle-aged prog rock wankers? Jethro Tull? Geeze. As for the complaints about Donna Summer, her song Bad Girls is a rock track and it makes you wanna f*ck unlike ELO or Rush which make me want to take a nap. It’s called rock n roll (which was a phrase for f*cking back in the day), not pretentious self-appointed genius jerking it neo-classical b.s. Rock n roll is supposed to be fun and scare the crap out of adults in one way or another. The only prog rock bands I’ve seen listed that will make adults actually wince are early Genesis (especially Lamb Lies Down On Broadway) and King Krimson. And even though I don’t like Kiss, they have been massively influential, although Alice Cooper should get in before them.

Rebecca S | 9/24/2009, 6:53 pm EST

Regarding Thin Lizzy,
Earlier this year my friend Max and I started a facebook group called:
Induct Thin Lizzy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Already! but we need to increase our numbers to make a big push for the next time! If you’re on facebook look up our group and join! We have just under 300 members so far, Thin Lizzy deserves more!

Rhythm Stick | 9/24/2009, 7:05 pm EST

How in hell does Neil Diamond qualify as rock n roll by any standard. That’s not a knock on the man. He has his talents, but to b*itch that LL Cool J is nominated and then demand that Neil Diamond get his is absolutely ludicrous. As for the people clamoring to have Boston and REO Speeddealer (I mean Speedwagon, wouldn’t want those humorless turds suing me) in the R n R Hall of Fame, get a grip. Clearly the only reason you can reproduce is because you get girls high on roofies and Bud Light because it’s not your taste in music or having a basic grasp of rockin’. Next you’ll demand that Tiny Tim be nominated next year (”But I watched him get married on Johnny Carson. That was so like rock n roll”). I don’t have any salami so eat my bologna.

LL Cool J?

come on. really?

who decides these things?

Obviously if after your prime you become a cable tv actor you are cearly not worthy of the rock hall. Does neil young need a second job to make a living? No because people still buy his music and will till the day he dies.
LL Cool J is a joke. The Rock Hall is in the fast lane to becoming one.

Karl | 9/24/2009, 8:45 pm EST

They may not be a “Rock Band” but the overall impact ABBA has had on music and pop culture is undeniable!

First they had talent! Benny & Bjorn were as good a song writing team as Lennon & McCartney, even Paul has said so. Anafrid & Agnetha…need I say more!

Second, 400 million in sales, third only to the Beatles and Elvis!

Third, MTV may have not existed if it wern’t for ABBA. They pioneered the use of the music video as a promo tool.

Fourth, the production techniques ABBA and Michael Tretow developed where at that time revolutionary! Polar Music Studios was the first to use digital recording. Genesis, Phil Collins and Led Zep all used the studio.

Fifth, there are many in the rock world who list ABBA as “guilty pleasure” including Elvis Costello, Metallica, U2, Y. Malmsteen, Robert Plant and even Ozzy.

ABBA’s music transends genres just like the Beatles did!

Hope they get in!!!!!!!

Entrwriter | 9/24/2009, 9:08 pm EST

Yup, blast LL Cool J for not being rock, because we all know bands like Led Zeppelin et al invented it. NOT. LL Cool J is just as worthy as anyone on that list. Rock is an almalgm of music from all off of America’s disparate cultures, but there is no greater influence than the music brought over from Africa with slaves. Some of you fans need to get a grip. As for RUSH? They deserve induction, but why do any of you individuals have to disparage another artist to boost a favorite of yours? The Rock Hall knows exactly what they’re doing – they’re honoring all the elements that comprise America’s music. That’s why Mihalia Jackson, Woody Guthrie, Johnny Cash and others who aren’t exclusively defined by the label ”rock and roll” are in the Hall. Some of you need to grow up and get a grip.

Anonymous | 9/24/2009, 9:11 pm EST

I was going to write a big paragraph explaining why RHCP is a no brainer but changed my mind. It would have been a waste of time considering some of the hilarious opinions on here. You have to be so uneducated in music to think that RHCP should not be a first ballad inductee.

My favorite comment was the guy who called them “frat boy rock.” The dumbass unknowingly made a good point. Its 25 years and RHCP still has a gigantic college and high school following. They consistently stay relevant to all age groups for a reason. Its a very rare thing.

ps. They need to change the name and just call it the Music hall of fame because they let too many types of music in.

Tony | 9/24/2009, 11:35 pm EST

The RRHOF is crap in my eyes, until JOE COCKER is enshrined for an iconic Rock career that is constantly overlooked, The likes of LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash, Blondie, Donna Summer, Chic are more deserving???? I don’t think so!!!!

Paul Revere and the Raiders had the
most creative stage act in the business and that should put the
Raiders in.By many accounts Hendrix
copied Drake Levin’s histrionics on lead guitar and the Raiders
smashed their instruments long before the Who.Their revolutionary
garb was a stroke of genius and their dancesteps added to the fun.
The Raiders brought a sense of humor to the drab depressing world
of rock populated by holier than thou rock critics and drug idled
musicians constantly tuning their
instruments at the Fillmore.Paul
Revere and the Raiders also sold
about 75 million records,made over
750 tv appearances,and performed
close to 10,000 concerts.Come to
think of it,Paul Revere and the
Raiders probably had more success
than at least half the bands in the
HOF.Is success bad?

Weegie | 9/25/2009, 1:14 am EST

Well anonymous, a name and life i’m sure you’ve lived and are used to, I borrowed the “Frat Boy Rock” label from an interview on MTV, the interviewee talked about playing trumpet on stage with Nirvana…and that it was one of the great honors of his life to be onstage with Kurt….ah…..his band was on tour with them…..his name is FLEA. Kinda horrificly ironic for ya huh ? Actually they were more interesting when they were a Funkadellic / Coltrane inspired young band, a bunch of “Funky Punky Idiots” as they sang themselves. And um….championing a band by saying High School and College boys of a new generation like them…is there any life form on our godforsaken planet dumber then a testosterone filled 16-21 year old male ? The correct answer is no. The Chili Peppers have given us, oh, 3 good songs over 25 years, kinda a bad percentage huh Rube ? My knowledge of music could crush you, anything from obscure Delta bluesmen from 1929, Jazz of any period, reggae, rockabilly, punk, the entire history of country, R & B, Zydeco, soul, African, bluegrass, 70’s funk, indie…one of my discarded toenails has more musical history and knowledge than your pea brain Rube. You getting all excited about the Chili Peppers, you showed your cards right there Rube ;) I’m done with you.

Weegie | 9/25/2009, 1:56 am EST

Yes, New Order should be nominated, as well as Joy Division. The irony is all you 70’s Classic Rock burn-outs complain that they’re picking critic fave bands when in fact they’re doing the opposite right now and trying to appease the masses and keep a draw to the Hall by nominating bands that are popular to you unwashed zombies. Metallica getting in was a thrown crumb to the horrible Metal Generation we’re stuck with, white trash kids from lower middle class nowhere America thinking they’re rebels by donning a $ 17.95 black T with awful skull and vague medieval graphics. RHCP and KISS nom’s are completely a PR move, the Hall know the indie bands of the early 80’s are much more deserving and these indie bands are the ones they raved about in this magazine, yes, critics bands like The Replacements, Husker Du,The Mekons, X, Sonic Youth, and Black Flag. So they’re actually going against their nerdy critic instincts and nominating more mainstream bands. The complaints about letting in “non-rock and roll music”, pffftt. Rock and Roll itself is an unruly bastard child of blues, country, gospel, and R&B. You people don’t even know the history of the music, you only know your hazy weeded memories of the 70’s, just before you dropped out of high school. You’re like the cast of Dazed and Confused grown up. Except the Dazed and Confused soundtrack had better music than the bands you plead to get in to the Hall ;) . The RUSH’es and YES’es of the world are rock and roll watered down to it’s weakest brew, Dumb Rock for Dumb White People. RUSH in particular hold some weird sway over Lower Middle Class White People. It’s like the scene in The Jerk where Steve Martin, growing up in his house full of blues, one night in bed fatefully turns the radio’s knob to a station playing Glenn Miller – “This is ………..my…..MUSIC !!!!!!”
Somewhere around the age of 15 white trash kids around America hear the strangled cat howl of Geddy Lee and think to themselves, “This is ……my….MUSIC !!!”
And you lot crying that they won’t let your putrid Prog Rock bands in and you will boycott the Hall and it’s run by lobotomized chimps…REEEEEAAAAAAALLY ??? I guess seeing Elmore James’ guitar or Janis’ hand painted Porsche or Jimi’s childhood artwork or Johnny Cash’ 1953 Martin, or Chuck’s handwritten draft of School Days doesn’t impress you ? REEEAAAALLY ?
Ooops, I forgot, you don’t listen to any of that stuff..let’s listen to RUSH and Yes ONE MORE FOOKIN’ TIIIIIME…………….

Consumer Guide Reviews:
The Red Hot Chili Peppers [EMI America, 1984]
As minstrelsy goes, this is good-hearted stuff (and as minstrelsy, it had better be). The reason it doesn’t quite come off isn’t that it’s good-hearted, either: the band is outrageous enough, though probably not the way it thinks it is. Perhaps there’s a clue in this mysterious observation from spokesperson Flea: “Grandmaster Flash and Kurtis Blow have great raps, but not that great music with it.” In a bassist, that’s serious delusion. B-

Californication [Warner Bros., 1999]
New Age fuck fiends (”Scar Tissue,” “Purple Stain”).

By the Way [Warner Bros., 2002]
How desperate rock scribes are for shows of quality by bands of any remaining commercial clout. This piece of let’s-slow-it-down-a-little isn’t terrible unless you’re expecting thee funk, but though it was greeted with hosannas in a slow news month, it’s certainly a turn or two slacker than Californication. When you’re an energy band, wisdom don’t make much nevermind. But melodies, harmonies, and so forth are supposed to drag some spiritual stuff along with them. It’s not enough for Anthony Keidis to get all mature–he’s supposed to say something interesting about maturity. And he’s never had thing one to say about anything else. B-

Stadium Arcadium [Warner Bros., 2006]
Only the familiar tale of their Grammy validation renders the familiar tale of their double album that shoulda been a single mildly interesting. Once a bassist’s band, now a guitarist’s band, they’re most of all an ’80s band, their spiritual core, such as it is, is rooted in the agony and ecstasy of heroin and cocaine. At least when the bassist ruled they livened up this overworked dynamic with beats. Now they tax it with tunes, at least when they’re on their game — as in the dead-end relationship song “Desecration Smile” and the marriage proposal “Hard to Concentrate.” B-

But ALICE COOPER??? There might be no KISS without Alice!

Are people really that ignorant? The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isn’t necessarily for “rock” musicians” only; its for anyone of ANY genre who has contributed immensely to the world of music. Aretha Franklin isn’t a “rock” musician, Miles Davis wasn’t a “rock musician, but I dare someone to have the balls to say they didn’t deserve to be inducted.

M'Lynn | 9/25/2009, 9:37 am EST

I think it’ll be RHCP, Kiss, Genesis, Stooges, and ABBA. I don’t want ABBA to go in, but I think they will. What did Donna Summer’s do that was so great? I don’t think LL Cool J will get in for a while. So I think 2010 will be the year of the bands.

Matt | 9/25/2009, 11:52 am EST

Hey WEEGIE. ur a moron. Do u work for the HOF because it sure seems like it. Ur a asshole and a dumbass. KISS belongs in the HOF. They are strictly a rock band. sold over 100 million records. ALice Cooper belongs in there too. He invented shock rock and is one one of the best live acts ever.

Shit bands that should never make it in the HOF:

Godsmack, Cavo, Motley Crue, Shinedown, Disturbed, Marylin Manson all = CRAP!

Bands That belong in the HOF:

Alice Cooper, J. Geils Band, Chicago, Jethro Tull, Deep Purple, Steppenwolf, Neil Diamond, ELO, YES, Rush, Judas preist, and of course KISS………!

Matt | 9/25/2009, 11:57 am EST

WEEGIE u prolly listen to crap winning music. U prolly own the new Green Day album which blows dogs for Quarters. U prolly listen to godsmack and cavo and whack off. These bands today SUCK! I have respect for RHCP. Nirvana belongs in the HOF. There is a lot of homo music out there today. I hate new rock it is so f-ing Gay or should i say that’s so emma and julia.

SBZ | 9/25/2009, 12:48 pm EST

Wow. Everyone’s getting all worked up about this. Really, guys, no need to pull a Kanye West. As I said before, congrats to all the nominees. I’m sure they all deserve the nomination, and many more deserving artists will get nominated later in time.

Anonymous | 9/25/2009, 1:22 pm EST

At this point, as lame as Kiss is, they probably should get in, but my question is where the fuck is ALICE COOPER? Not to mention Cheap Trick, T-Rex, Roxy Music, New York Dolls, MC5, The Runaways, Black Flag, X, The Damned, Devo, Ringo Starr, Judas Priest and ELO.
And the Stooges better get in this year, this is ridiculous.

Ice Man | 9/25/2009, 2:34 pm EST

Genesis and Kiss should be locks. Cheap Trick not getting in is a travesty.

Bon Jovi still sells out arenas and writes their own songs. They should be in, but the won’t because the HOF dip wads don’t know crap.

Where’s the Crue and Journey? Steve Perry not in the HOF? The man has one of the greatest voices of all time and Neal Schon is a guitar god?

The Rock HOF sucks. LL Cool J??? Are U serious? If he gets in, the whole thing is a joke…

Always nice to get fan mail, especially from neanderthals who can barely piece together a sentence. “Matt” – Go and play with your KISS action figures, no, noo, nothing wrong with a grown man playing with figurines depicting other men wearing garish make-up, (Matt walking his KISS dolls on his mom’s greenshag carpet, providing dialogue for his beloved aging drag queens) -”Gene ! I’m out of silver mascara ! Are you going to let the 16 year old boys in the crowd see your tongue tonight ?!?” KISS is a JOKE, at their “height” they were a dumb joke band, a kind of satire of glam, they even had one or two silly but catchy songs. The following oh….30 years was a long slide into self parody, they’ve become one of those, “Oh God, those guys were so bad they were good” nostalgia acts. Ironically ABBA also fits that bill. Maybe the hall should have an irony section, Gary Glitter and Monte Rock III can join them ! I lsiten to “winning” music Matt ? Was that supposed to be whinning your chimp hand tried to type ? And er….I think you have a homosexual fixation, you might want to try to get some psychological help and curve that urge to go on a shooting spree, i’m just saying.
And again you people are going nuts because one or two of the bands you like aren’t getting in The Hall ? You’re blowing a rod because RUSH and KISS aren’t in the hall ? Might be time to cut back on the coffee. The Stooges and and Warren Zevon are personally 2 acts that I wish they would induct, but i’m not going to crawl into the fetal position and threaten to release crickets into The Halls walls because they’re not in yet. And WHAT is going on with these hordes of 70’s burn-outs chattering for ELO, Cheap Trick, RUSH, KISS, Yes, Journey, etc ?!?!? These bands almost KILLED rock and roll…..DISCO was ballsier. Go away, really, you’re embarrassing yourselves and your families, if you have TERRIBLE taste in music don’t post on a music site…..go !

The Hollies and the Stooges are the only obviously deserving inductees. Where are the nominations for Link Wray, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Shangri-Las, T-Rex, Roxy Music, The Zombies, X? Most of these nominees are garbage. Ridiculous. A Hall of Fame for people who hate rock ‘n’ roll.

Chris B | 9/25/2009, 9:39 pm EST

Alice Cooper should be in, along with Faces. Rush also should be in along with Cheap Trick. With the exclusion of these people, the Hall is a sham.

kiss is alright but there music is for stupid ass teenagers who have nothin better to do but jump around n be idiots, RHCP, it may be a bit early but they deserve just as much as any band cause they have touched a lot of people, n they go deep into people, n perform great. Plus RHCPs guitarist John Frusciante deserves to be in the hall of fame more then anyone even in the hall of fame, his solo stuff might not be that known but he has more heart and love for music n his friends then any musician. any who disagrees can suck my nuts.

Lucy Piller | 9/25/2009, 11:47 pm EST

Where on earth is PAUL RODGERS ???
I cannot wait another year for him to be inducted. It’s about time don’t you think? Anyone agree?

Karen Alvarez | 9/26/2009, 12:16 am EST

Seriously, I go along with Lucy Piller above. What about Paul Rodgers? The voice of rock n roll for 40 years. Come on people, let’s get him inducted. He is the most deserving singer I can think of that should have this honor.

David | 9/26/2009, 12:48 am EST

Kiss should’ve been inducted the first year they were eligible. RRHOF is merely a critics’ wet dream, where douchebag hipster idiots from rags like Rolling Stone can put bands like fucking Blondie and Grandmaster Flash (rock?) ahead of influential giants like Kiss. This is a band that influenced everyone from Pantera to Garth Brooks to Alice in Chains….it’s about fucking time.

Desmond108 | 9/26/2009, 2:21 am EST

Let’s face it: the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame committee has a clear agenda against anything approaching ‘prog rock’. (I know, I know–there’s Genesis, right there. I maintain that has a lot to do with the careers of the band members OUTSIDE OF the group, too. Plus, Genesis had a very long run of Top 40 staples during the days of actual Music Television. As did Gabriel.)

These asswipe snobs are basically saying that what that genre represents is, in their minds, not only antithetical to ‘real rock ‘n’ roll’ (whatever!), but adverse. Corruptive, even.

Well, ya know what? A REAL rock fan can deal with Sonic Youth AND Rush. A REAL rock fan can dig James Brown’s horn section AND Jethro Tull’s flute. (”That’s some mighty fine flutin’, boy!”) And so on. I will always find the sad irony in the bespectacled music nerds with the slightly cooler hair and glass frames STILL taking their hang-ups out on the bespectacled music nerds with virtuoso chops and, okay, flighty lyrics. But I tend to think peer adulation means more to ANY band, so the committee can suck it.

Rabbi Dave | 9/26/2009, 3:13 am EST

Why are they inducting rap/hip hop artists in the “ROCK N ROLL” hall of fame, they dont iduct country artist, or jazz artist. This makes no sense. They chose to perform something different than rock n roll and yet its recognized and rewarded with/as rock n roll. I don’t get it.

ATTENTION WEGGIE.. Your the kind of IDIOT who falls into ” If I don’t like it then it’s crap. That everybody must be wrong and your right. I don’t think so and neither does anybody else. Your statement that disco is ballsier then then bands like Yes and Rush is IDIOTIC. Disco was the SELLOUT and the low point of many bands careers with the exception of maybe the Begees. I’m not a prog rock fanatic but whats more “rock and roll hall of fame” Rounabout by Yes, Workingman by Rush or Dancing Queen by Abba. I’m sorry maybe you where talking about Disco Duck by Rick Dee and his cast of WEGGIES.

Kim Gold | 9/26/2009, 4:08 pm EST

I definitly agree! With all the $ he raises for so many causes, he has influenced so many people- and all the tribute bands etc.His music will live forever.Paul Rodgers is the VOICE of ROCK & ROLL.

LL Fuck J | 9/26/2009, 4:14 pm EST

No. NO. NOOOO. LL Cool J should not be inducted, and there is no fucking reason for him to be nominated his first year of eligibility. It is complete and utter bullshit.

poughkeepsiejohn | 9/26/2009, 7:40 pm EST

I think KISS and the RHCP will be a lock for the RRHOF. The Stooges and LL may get in. But more than anyone else, Darlene Love deserves to get in. If she does get in, I hope she sings “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”, even if it’s not Christmastime!

It’s “ignorant” to think otherwise, Maureen. It wasn’t called, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, just to let anybody from any genre of music to be inducted. It is to honor and recognized the contributions of one specific genre, Rock and Roll! Country music has Nashville, Detroit has Motown, New York has Disco and Rap, Mississippi and Chicago has the Blues, and Cleveland is the home of Rock and Roll, period.

The problem is… that New York, LA, and Philadelphia, were pissed off that the Rock Hall was being put in it’s birthplace and not in their respective cities. New Yorkers from it’s inception of running the Rock Hall and insisting that the induction ceremonies to be held in NYC is a big mistake and a slap in the face to Cleveland, IMO!

The nomination process is more of in spite of Cleveland having the Rock Hall, and the decisions on nominating Rap, Top 40, Disco Queens, is to get even with Cleveland getting what is rightfully theirs by virtue and territory, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and try to make it a “laughing stock” of a landmark, to one of the most celebrated genres of music.

The New Yorkers running the joint, needs to be run out of town on a rail, and all events for the induction ceremonies should be in Cleveland! It isn’t for New Yorkers to decide for what’s good for Cleveland or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

What is Rock and Roll?

Rock and Roll was not a pure genre to begin with. It was a combination of Rhythm and blues, country, gospel, blues, jazz, big band, and boogie woogie.

Later folk and free form jazz were added.

In the seventies their was Rock. Rock is not rock and roll although Rock Groups think they inherited they moniker. Thus arises the confusion.

Many Rhythm and Blues, Pop and Rap acts are closer to Rock and Roll than some of the Rock acts and thus is the dilemma.

Without a doubt for a historian of ROCK AND ROLL, Madonna and Michael Jackson are more Rock and Roll than lets say Sonic Youth or Radiohead.

Because a large number of people were born after the Rock and Roll era, They think ROCK is rock and roll and don’t recognize the Rhythm and Blues origin. They don’t recognize that some of these pop, rap and R and B people are actually closer to Rock and Roll than some of the Rock and heavy metal artists.

Actually, the Rock Hall should’ve gone in chronological order of who is “in” and who is “out”, so we wouldn’t be having these discussions on a yearly basis. Once you have a solid foundation built on it’s origins, then the rest of the decision process is easier. This mess of the selection process and the induction ceremonies could’ve been avoided, and you would have a pretty clear line of sight, on who, influenced whom.

Personally, for me, it isn’t about my personal favorites, it’s more about the dignity of the induction process and who should lay claim to it’s stewardship of hosting the entire ceremony; and IMHO, it should be strictly be left to Cleveland, Ohio.

Weegie | 9/27/2009, 6:47 am EST

Going through my records and CD’s i’ve come up with a list of worthy noms –
Beastie Boys (Best band of the last 25 years)
B-52’s (Close call but deserving down the road somewhere)
Black Flag (Hard Core kings) The Blasters Captain Beefheart / Alex Chilton Derek and the Dominoes (Actually Clapton’s zenith, The Yardbirds were kind of tinny Rolling Stones, Cream was ridiculous, Eric’s solo career artisitically died around 1975, Derek & is the ultimate guitar album …………ever ) Ian Dury / The Faces / Gang of Four / Husker Du / Joy Division / Los Lobos / Nick Lowe / The Minutemen / The Mekons Randy Newman (Stunned he isn’t already in, I assumed he was, second best songwriter after Dylan, strong albums through out his career, Harps and Angels his most recent is fantastic)
NY Dolls / Pixies / Pogues /
The Replacements (Arguably the best american band of all time. Just came at the wrong time, Nirvana sounded almost exactly like them and hit it big obviously, The Mats just were around when down and dirty R&R was on the back burner)
Lou Reed (Solo)
Sonic Youth (No brainer)
Television / SRV
Tom Waits
X
Warren Zevon (WAY overdue !)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~
Early influences –
Skip James / Blind Willie Johnson / Sonny Boy Williamson / Blind Lemon Jefferson
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not strictly “R & R” but should be in –
Merle Haggard / Willie Nelson / Clifton Chenier / Slim Harpo / Hound Dog Taylor / Albert King / Freddie King / George Jones / Lefty Frizzell / Toots Hibbert / The Wailers & Bob Marley solo (Jimmy Cliff is a nom this year BEFORE Bob Marley ?!?!?!)
All in all the most deserving right now are – Randy Newman / Warren Zevon / Stevie Ray / NY Dolls / Bob Marley solo & The Wailers / Derek & Dom / Replacements / Sonic Youth
Only 2 that really deserve it this are The Stooges of course and Donna Summers……

Weegie | 9/27/2009, 6:55 am EST

Weegie | 9/27/2009, 7:13 am EST

Oops, Bob Marley made it in 1994, my bad ;) Although the Wailers should also be in, they were The Rolling Stones of reggae. Next up in reggae should be Toots and the Maytals and Burning Spear.
For fun the weakest acts in The Hall – Jefferson Airplane (Only 2 good songs and recorded the Worst Rock and Roll song of All Time – We Built This City)
Billy Joel (Ewwwwwwwwwww….)
Gene Pitney (Over-wrought wimp-fest)
George Harrison Solo
Traffic (Failed super group)
Black Sabbath (NOTHING dumber than metal, NOTHING. Iron Man was a fluke !)
James Taylor (Worst pick ever)
Metallica (See Black Sabbath ;) )

Alice Cooper is/was a spin-off of Arthur Brown. Arthur Brown was the second “shock rocker”, and Kiss was another band who took the face paint from Arthur Brown. The first person who painted their face was, Bob Dylan, with lines down the sides of his mouth to resemble a marionette, as he sang.

The first “shock rocker” is… Screamin’ Jay Hawkins from Cleveland.

When did ABBA become Rock ‘n Roll? I guess about the same time that the Bee Gees and countless other “feel good” artists became Rock ‘n Roll. I say “feel good”,, because the nominating and voting commitee, “feel good” that THEY were smart enuff to recognize the artists that WE overlooked…”This guy has never had a hit, but he’s been a great activist..put him in. This guy never recorded ANYTHING, but he was hosed by the industry becaus of his color…let’s put him in” What a joke! You need to actually sit down and listen to some older KISS albums and realize what good Rock & Roll is. They sold over a 100 million albums. You dont have to have good lyrics in a song to be good musician. If it had has good beat and I like it, it makes it a good song to me. anyways….. More bands that belong in the HOF:
ALICE COOPER, Rush, YES, Bad Company, J. Geils Band, Nirvana, KISS, Journey, Bon Jovi, Warren Zevon, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Deep Purple, Pear Jam in the near future along with The Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, etc…

JohnnyK | 9/27/2009, 10:10 pm EST

The HOF, (like Rolling Stone), continues to miss the boat; DON’T enshrine KISS…or Alice, or Ted, Priest, RUSH, or any other real rockers…WE, (the fans), have enshrined them long ago! Besides, I don’t want REAL rock sharing any place with the likes of LL Cool Whip or the Bees Knees!

C. M. Lollis | 9/27/2009, 10:57 pm EST

Someone please give me the definition of “Rock N Roll”…how can LL Cool J be nominated before Rush??? Rush has been around since 1974…have 20+ gold records…and play some serious rock music. Why isn’t such a legendary band nominated??

Angie | 9/28/2009, 12:05 am EST

Fuck the HOF. This list is a joke.

Weegie | 9/28/2009, 12:31 am EST

LOL. Oh my brain challenged nitwit Matt, your list is GODAWFUL !!!. RUSH, Yes, KISS, Journey !!!!, BON JOVI !!!!!! Dave Mathews !!!! John Mayer !!! LOLZZZZZZZZZ !!!! I can barely type from the tears of laughter streaming down my face ! You just named some of the worst acts of all time ! BON JOVI ?!!!? Good GODDDDDDD ! Are you sure you’re not a chick ?? Do you even know who anyone on my nominations list are ? You actually borrowed Warren Zevon from my list hoping you could list someone you have no idea who he was but it looks good on your list, lol. What a goof. I was a teenager in the 70’s, the Smoker Duuuuuuudes listened to KISS, the kids who had a little trouble keeping up in class ;) We laughed at them, they were a complete joke band. A novelty band. No one took them seriously. While the smart kids who went to college like me listened to The Clash and The Sex Pistols and The Stones, the kids who dropped out or were “challenged” wink wink, listened to Kiss and RUSH. And you grew up while KISS had become a sad nostalgia “So bad and cheesy they’re good” act. How in the world did your disasterous musical taste squeeze in 2 great acts like SRV and Nirvana ? Maybe you have a VERY small hope of saving ;) KISS selling 80 gazzilion records says more about the publics terible taste in music than anything else. Barry Manliow, Mariah Carey, NKOTB,and Liberace also sold a gazillion albums, sales doesn’t equal quality. Listen, you and the rubes clamoring for Yes, RUSH, Journey…you’re lower middle class white trash who thinks the Worst bands of all time are great, you listen to them while you work on your 1977 Trans Am with the hubcaps missing and the red hood on the blue body. These bands are the most soulless, WHITE sounding, non-swinging bands ever. I Really Really know you don’t realize you have bad taste in music…dumb people aren’t cogniscent enough to know they’re dumb, it’s science. But late 70’s ROCK bands were the Worst Bands of All Time. Go put on a Chuck Berry CD and start all over, Nirvana on your list gives us a little hope…start with Chuck, get The Great 28 CD, try to erase all those other bands in your head…listen to Around and Around or Havana Moon…ino Matt, ino, this will be the first black music you’ve ever heard, but hold on buddy ! Give it a chance ! ;)

Weegie | 9/28/2009, 12:49 am EST

I’m done messing with you rubes, it’s like trying to teach a chimp to ride a bicycle. I give up. I just can’t understand why you would have such terrible taste in music and then come on RS.com of all places and tell the world about it. The Hall has most everyone that should be in, Chuck Berry, The Stones, Beatles, Eddie Cochran, Muddy Waters, Hank Williams….do any of you even look at who’s in The Hall ? And because they haven’t let RUSH or Journey in The Hall is a joke and you will never set foot in it ! Lol. Goofs. I’ve been to The Hall 4 times, and I have to admit, it would bore you, your taste in music is SO narrow you wouldn’t even know who most of the acts in it were. You listen to one tiny boxed compartment of music and are so uneducated and close minded that you will never hear 95 % of the great music that’s been recorded over the past 80 years. Matt,so you really think Slim Harpo, Merle Haggard, Randy Newman, NY Dolls, Skip James, The Replacements, Derek and the Dominoes, Albert King, Toots and the Maytals, The Faces, Lou Reed, etc. are “horrible” ??? (Shakes head………)
Adios Rubesaurus’es ;)

Proud Rush Fan | 9/28/2009, 2:31 am EST

Alright, this is getting real silly now. Almost to the point where I should take a torch, and burn the Hall down. Who knows? I just might do it if bands like Green Day, Radiohead, or (ugh!) Fallout Boy get in before Rush. The Hall isn’t the Hall without Alex, Geddy, and Neil in it.

Capecodder | 9/28/2009, 8:48 am EST

The “Rock” Hall is the biggest farce. Well deserving bands get shunned just because the owner of this magazine doesn’t like them. Who’s this jerk- off to say what is good or not? I say castrate them all and get some people who actually KNOW rock. By the way, it is the ROCK hall isn’t it? Give the rappers another place. Maybe call it the “Rip Off Rock n” Roll Hall of Fame” since most of them take beats from rock. Oh, yes, how original.

Capecodder | 9/28/2009, 8:50 am EST

Weegie, you must be a moulinyan.

Honestly | 9/28/2009, 10:00 am EST

Bands who wear make-up are labeled freaks and KISS still sold 4 million copies of “Alive” in 1975, before in your face metal was even big in bible times. They are all plain ugly. Bon Jovi and Mick Jagger sell millions of albums because of their looks, so KISS is allowed to sell records because of their makeup. Aerosmith along with KISS used co-writers after they hit their prime. Ace Frehley is KISS, period, watch “Kissology One” and will know why! Their are only a handful of bands throughout rock history that has mult-level talent. Most underground bands would take the 20 million endorsements just like KISS did if they ever seen that kind of money, but they have not. They could not even control themselves in a local bar playing a slot machine or Texas hold em. If anything Paul and Gene, not Ace and Peter, took the money and ran. That still should not tarnish KISS’s early recordings. Peter Criss is structured drummer in the studio but that does not mean he played that way live. Listen to KISS Alive and I think he could hang with John Bohnma anyday. I think Peter’s drum solo is better than Moby Dick.

Irene | 9/28/2009, 11:36 am EST

I was stunned to see LL Cool J on this list when once again Paul Rodgers/Bad Company is snubbed! Open your eyes and ears RRHF! Paul Rodgers has worked non-stop in the business for 40 years and counting. And, by the way, he is ROCK & ROLL!

Fusion Staffing Partners | 9/28/2009, 12:01 pm EST

First Madonna and Run DMC and now LL Cool J….are you fucking kidding me? It’s the rock-n-roll hall of fame people. Where is Rush? Deep Purple? Motorhead? This is one pathetic institution.

MB | 9/28/2009, 2:12 pm EST

What about Dire Straits?! There better then any other band listed here. But the HOF has become a joke. I mean Brittney Spears will get inducted for crying out loud once her 25 years is up.

Matt | 9/28/2009, 2:12 pm EST

Ok Weegie look I use to hate KISS because I thought there music was lame until one day I sat down and decided to listen to there first couple albums. I was BLOWN AWAY! I just started becoming a huge KISS fan this year. I just saw them twice at cobo and it was the best live act I’ve ever seen. Other great live acts: Alice Cooper, Kid Rock, ZZ Top, Steve Miller Band, Tom Petty, etc… I like most of the bands u named. I love Eric Clapton and every other band he was in. I like variety ok. It seems like ur taste in music is just strictly bands that can write good music. Look at Alice Cooper. One of the most underated musicians of all time. Bob Dylan once told rolling stone that Alice “was an overlooked songwriter”. And he was right. That’s coming from Bob Dylan. Only Women Bleed is one of the greatest ballads I’ve ever heard. The song is not what u think it’s about. But Anyways…. Not a Bon Jovi fan but deserves it if Grandmaster Flash made it in. That’s my point why I named all these bands. If Rap artist are making it in then every other band from the 70’s and 80’s should make it. I Like Chuck Berry. Love the Stones, Huge Led Zeppelin fan. I have good taste in music. And I’ll say it again. KISS belongs in The HOF. REASON # 1: Sold over 100 million records. Reason # 2: They still know how to rock today. Reason # 3: Beth was named song of the year in 1976 or whenever it came out. Anyways….. I’m done arguing with u Weegie. It’s been fun. Rock & Roll All Night And Party Every Day!

JU | 9/28/2009, 2:28 pm EST

Will Kanye West be inducted into the Hall Of Fame? I wouldn’t doubt it.

Matt | 9/28/2009, 2:36 pm EST

If rap artist are making it in, then u have start nominating country artist. There is more rock in country then rap.

Chris | 9/28/2009, 3:22 pm EST

Can we just make a fucking RAP Hall of Fame and stop letting these peeps into the ROCK Hall of fame please? This is just crazy.

RC | 9/28/2009, 3:34 pm EST

Journey – Frontiers [Columbia, 1983]
Just a reminder, for all who believe the jig is really up this time, of how much worse things might be: this top ten album could be outselling Pyromania, or Flashdance, or even Thriller. Worse still, Steve Perry could run for the Senate as a moderate Republican from, say, Nebraska, where his oratory would garner excellent press–and then, having shed his video-game interests, ram the tape tax through. D+

RC | 9/28/2009, 3:39 pm EST

Yes – Close to the Edge [Atlantic, 1972]
What a waste. They come up with a refrain that sums up everything they do–”I get up I get down”–and apply it only to their ostensible theme, which is the “seasons of man” or something like that. They segue effortlessly from Bach to harpsichord to bluesy rock and roll and don’t mean to be funny. Conclusion: At the level of attention they deserve they’re a one-idea group. Especially with Jon and Rick up front. C+

RC | 9/28/2009, 3:43 pm EST

RUSH – A Farewell to Kings [Mercury, 1977]
The most obnoxious band currently making a killing on the zonked teen circuit. Not to be confused with Mahogany Rush, who at least spare us the reactionary gentility. More like Angel. Or Kansas. Or a power-trio Uriah Heep, with vocals revved up an octave. Or two. D

RC | 9/28/2009, 3:50 pm EST

Bon Jovi – Have a Nice Day [Island, 2005]
Bon Jovi mean so little long or short term that it was only with this redolently entitled cheese bomb that I realized they hadn’t actually broken up back in the fabled ’90s. (Really–I took all their ’00s albums for reunion one-shots, and couldn’t figure out why the product kept coming in the three seconds I thought about it.) The commercial secret is as unchanging as Jon-Jon’s mysteriously unwrinkled countenance–hard rock so inoffensive it’s less Aerosmith than Air Supply. Not only is it impossible to tell whether the one called “Bells of Freedom” is pro- or anti-Bush, it’s impossible to tell whether it’s patriotic. A depressing argument for the existence of that intellectual fairy tale, the passive mass audience. C+

RC | 9/28/2009, 3:55 pm EST

Genesis – Nursery Cryme [Charisma, 1971]
God’s wounds! It’s a “rock” version of the myth of Hermaphroditus! In quotes cos the organist and the (mime-influenced) vocalist have the drummer a little confused! Or maybe it’s just the invocation to Old King Cole! C-

[Groan] | 9/28/2009, 4:38 pm EST

Phew. So many overconfident, swaggering fanboy dweebs…god, just go back, read your words and cringe at yourselves. My browser counts 34 usages of the word “joke” on this page. Yes yes, it’s so important to be so far “above” the Hall that you can hahahaha laugh it off. Right. What a moronic, adolescent pose. And wow, isn’t it amazing how everybody’s choices for top omissions happen to be their own favorite bands? Funny how that works.

The dopey ones also obsess far, far too much about the “genre” issue. Let me give you a litmus test which seems pretty appropriate to me:

****Would it seem odd if the artist was covered in a Rolling Stone feature?****

If not, then there’s no problem with them being inducted. The rockists love to fume about rappers and dance music being inducted, but this music is all well within Rolling Stone’s editorial scope. And yet, Rolling Stone is still casually perceived as a “rock” magazine, right? Ask yourself why.

On the other hand, take someone like, oh, Dave Brubeck or Tammy Wynette. They may be legends, but wouldn’t you think “Huh…a bit surprised to see this story here” if you found them while flipping through a RS issue? I suspect you would. But you *wouldn’t* be surprised to see a Miles Davis story, would you? No. How about James Taylor or Donna Summer? Surprising? No. Well within the magazine’s range. Ask yourself why. Ask yourself why, rather than just pompously assuming you have more perceptive standards than everyone who writes for the magazine or has membership on the HOF committee.

Just accept the Hall’s standards for eligibility and GO with them. You KNOW they’ll induct music which goes beyond pure “Rock & Roll,” and you KNOW they aren’t going to induct many acts which never went beyond genre-specific or cult success. So, GO with that. Take those standards, and see how they mesh with your own preferences. Recognize the difference. Be level-headed, for heaven’s sake. Make suggestions for HOF picks based on the established standards, not just your own. There IS some continuity in what the Hall picks, though I hardly agree with all of the decisions.

Personally, my biggest complaints about the Hall are 1) the strained tokenism which inducts vintage black singers with scarcely more than a few durable singles (how much credit do songwriters, producers and backing musicians deserve for those acts’ success?) and 2) the obvious prejudice against prog-like acts (Yes, Genesis and the Moody Blues in particular…I don’t think Jethro Tull, ELP and King Crimson are quite among the frontrunners, even though I personally like those bands). Squealing Rush dorks overestimate their heroes’ eligibility, naturally — Rush may be popular, but you have to remember that if you don’t like Rush, you REALLY don’t like Rush. Their fanbase is pretty insular. Rush and KISS probably have a similar number of fans (at least in North America?), but how many people do you know who violently hate KISS? How many non-KISS fans don’t get a few meathead kicks out of “Rock and Roll All Nite” and “Detroit Rock City” all the same? KISS is like the Ramones and AC/DC — people from vastly different aesthetics can always come together for a moment and enjoy some silly, lowest-common-denominator headbanging with those groups. Lots of crossover. Play them at a house party, and everyone’s happy. Cheap Trick has that quality too, which is why they’re among my top picks for omitted artists.

In any case, I’m not an expert on soul/R&B and the Hall’s criteria for assessing those genres frankly baffles me, but among white acts, I’d say the top omissions include Chicago, Genesis, Yes, Alice Cooper, KISS, the Cars, Cheap Trick, the Moody Blues and Linda Ronstadt. Maybe Deep Purple, just a hair below. I don’t even collect Chicago, KISS, the Cars, Ronstadt or Deep Purple at all, but damn it, there’s a difference between one person’s tastes and the WORLD’S tastes. I wish other people could figure out that simple truth. I enjoy lots and lots of alternative music which is becoming eligible now, but I have enough perspective to realize that the Replacements, X, Husker Du, Buzzcocks, Television, Nick Cave, Brian Eno, Gang of Four, the Jesus & Mary Chain, Pere Ubu, the Pogues, Squeeze, XTC, the Fall, Sonic Youth, etc. just don’t have enough mainstream juice to waltz in the door. I *adore* Tom Waits, but I still don’t think he’s quite “big” enough to be a major oversight. And Big Star? Fantastic group, but not a chance. That’s just the way it goes. I ACCEPT this.

By the way, I also don’t agree with all the people raging about Judas Priest and Stevie Ray Vaughan being left out. I’d rate them as strictly second-tier. I wouldn’t have nominated the Red Hot Chili Peppers at this point either. But note how I stated my view as just an even-tempered personal preference, rather than screaming that it’s a “joke” that anyone else would choose them. Grow up, people.

A well-intentioned list, Marc, but I think you’re overestimating quite a few names. I’d say Rory Gallagher, King Crimson, Uriah Heep, Humble Pie, Blue Oyster Cult, Johnny Winter, Richard Thompson, Kansas, Grand Funk Railroad, Vanilla Fudge, Toto, Joe Jackson, solo Winwood, Love, Mott the Hoople, Fogelberg, Hornsby and solo Kaukonen are nowhere near the top of the “overlooked” pile at this point. And I say that despite being a big fan of Crimson, Love and Thompson. And I would be surprised if Vanilla Fudge or Kaukonen *ever* get inducted. Or even nominated.

PS OK, that’s one more usage of “joke.” My my, such a mirthful batch of contributors on this page.

Singer-Songwriter and Pianist Elton John and his songwriting partner, Lyricist Bernie Taupin, were both inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992, but only Elton John was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. This does not make any sense whatsoever. If there had not been a Bernie Taupin, there would not have been an Elton John and vice versa. Their music was a collaborative effort. Bernie Taupin should have been inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame back in 1994 as a Lyricist in the Non-Performers category, the same year that Elton John was inducted in the performers category.

Bernie Taupin didn’t just write lyrics exclusively for Elton John. Bernie Taupin also wrote the lyrics for songs recorded by Ringo Starr, Rod Stewart, Kiki Dee, Cher, Alice Cooper, Robert Palmer, Melissa Manchester, Rick Derringer, The Hudson Brothers, Olivia Newton John, The Motels, Starship, Heart, Animotion, Stray Cats, John Waite, Martin Page, Peter Cetera, Bryan Ferry, Tammy Wynette, Little Richard, Marianne Faithful, Courtney Love, John Anderson, Willie Nelson, Teddy Thompson, Emmylou Harris, Lee Ann Womack, Toby Keith, and Brian Wilson, as well as for his own singing career, both as a solo artist and as a member of his own late-1990s Country-Western band, The Farm Dogs.

Elton John and Bernie Taupin comprise one of the longest running and most successful songwriting teams of all time. Bernie Taupin’s 40 years of collaborative work with Elton John alone should qualify him for the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame. Please induct Lyricist Bernie Taupin into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame in the Non-Performers category. His induction is long overdue.

Marc | 9/29/2009, 8:50 am EST

I was remiss in leaving Chicago and Alice Cooper off my list.
Vanilla Fudge were a highly influential band that pioneered the modern concert sound and stage show (The Dead’s stage show came afterward and Jimmy Page has stated that the Zeppelin live act was patterned after VF.).
They were also one of the few groups that really jammed (guitar, drums, keyboards and bass) during the late 60’s. In an era when artists were routinely covering each others’ songs, the Fudge brought a new meaning to “remake” with great bombastic work-outs of The Windmills Of Your Mind, Shotgun, People, You Keep Me Hangin’ On, etc. Individually, Carmine Appice and Tim Bogert were considered among the best on their instruments.

Nickelback/KISS effect | 9/29/2009, 10:31 am EST

It is sad when any rock band sings a ballad or records positive music they get tore down. Don’t get too famous because if so you are a wimp. So what? I think it takes more of a man to sing a ballad to your girlfriend, wear make-up, and sing positive music than to play negative music. KISS has been patriotic since CD # 1. People try to compare the modern KISS with the 70’s. There is no comparison. Aereosmith along with KISS used the same co-writers’s at times. Wearing make-up in the 70’s is like Marilyn Manson of today, and they still fought through it and sold 4 million copies of Alive in 1975. First American, not British, hard rock group in America. So what they sell a lot of toys? Adam Sandler, Nickelback, Brett Faver, Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts. Just keep pissing the critics off! Rock on! People not KISS about money, but then the average critic will go buy stock bonds, PLAY TEXAS HOLD EM, SLOT MACHINES AT BAR! GO FIGURE?

Vanilla Fudge isn’t ever getting in, Marc. History basically records the group as a one-hit wonder, at this point. And it wasn’t even a *good* hit, if you ask me. Even Iron Butterfly has more credentials to be admitted, and their music has aged just as badly.

Look again | 9/30/2009, 11:03 am EST

Keep pissing the critics off! Rock on! Peter Criss, though labeled a so-called bad drummer when in reality if anyone would take the time to listen to the fist two “Live CD’s” and ignore the structured settings of his drumming in the studio, you will see Peter was bad ass. I think it is very unique to mix his jazz skils with metal anyway. Older and wiser dark musical bands credit KISS because most likely they are the only positive outlet of metal music to listen too in such a dark musical world. Having a lunch box with their image on it was the ultimate outlet to release our frustrations. I much rather someone be cool and live fast die young than to be a forty year old druggie. At least KISS promotes sobriety now days. Alice chains just recently wore KISS make-up to honor the band. Now if one of the most darkest lyrical bands can like KISS, anyone can. Overlook Gene and Paul’s greed and focus ont they early days is the key.

Boston deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame. they were one of the best, of all time really, had an amazing singer in Brad Delp (R.I.P.) Tom Scholz was a genius, and they just had so many good songs. I jsut think if you are going to induct people that really don’t deserve it, you should at least get the people who deserve it (like Boston) in there first.

Geoff | 10/2/2009, 6:28 am EST

Kiss being nominated is 10 years overdue. After 35 years they are still one of the biggest bands in the world playing to stadiums which other so-called supergroups could only dream about. Keep rapcrap Techno and all that other shit out of the RRHF. If Rolling Stone is serious and would grow up and get rid of the pettiness Kiss should be inducted in 2010.

If there had not been a Bernie Taupin, there would not had been an Elton John and vice versa.

BADFINGER ALL THE WAY! As well as many of the artists mentioned below. But Badfinger is a very deserving band- screwed by management which led to two suicides of the lead songwriters: Pete Ham and Tommy Evans. They NEED a moment to finally shine!
If that isn’t a good reason, they wrote “Without You” a beautiful ballad made famous by Harry Nilsson and once again by Mariah Carry.
Their fan base is still hopeful.
Honestly, not crazy about the genre-hopping in the hall. I’d rather have it stick to rock, and may be a bit of pop or disco is fine. But no more rap.

Burier | 10/6/2009, 1:42 pm EST

Some you bed wetters need to get a grip.

Hip-hop music at its roots is just another interpretation of rock music. If you listen to LL’s first two albums there is tremendous rock infulence.

When the hell | 10/9/2009, 7:57 am EST

Vanilla Fudge had two hits with covers (Ticket to Ride and You Keep Me Hanging On) and a few members went on to form an incredible blues rock band called Cactus which later led to the spinoff Beck Bogert and Appice.

The Stooges should have gotten in while Ron was alive. Instead at that time they were lumped with serenading Madonna at her RnR HOF induction, a big WTF moment.

I agree Deep Purple and Alice Cooper are FAR more induction worth than Kiss.

Genesis would be great if they could get Collins, Gabriel and Hackett to play live alongside Mike and Tony adn play something like the original arrangement of Carpet Crawlers.

LL Cool J, what a joke. First off Rap needs a seperate museum and second why something so safe like him instead of NWA? Last I remember LL was a one hit wonder with Mama Said Knock You Out then went on to be a deoderant spokesman.

Lyteep | 10/10/2009, 10:22 pm EST

Out of the twelve nominees, with 5 inducted in 2010, this would be my DREAM induction:

ABBA
Darlene Love
Stooges
Chantels
Donna Summer

It would represent every aspect of MY particular taste (in MAINSTREAM music, at least) over the past 15 years!

KISS – How about the New York Dolls first (and MC5), then we’ll talk…

Jimmy Cliff – In my opinion, the only reggae artist in the RNRHoF should be Bob Marley, for his amazing and humongous influence. No more after that…

Genesis – Absolutely, and about time…

The Hollies – Yeah, pretty much so. Had the best songs of the initial British invasion other than the Beatles or the Stones…

LL Cool J – No, not before the Sugar Hill Gang, NWA, DJ Kool Herc (the one most credited for originating hip hop), etc. He should go in the same class as Ice T, maybe?

Laura Nyro – A folk singer-songwriter, I guess? Like someone said earlier, I don’t really know her music so I can’t even judge. But, then, does she have enough “name power” to be in the HoF?

Red Hot Chili Peppers – I know they aren’t eligible yet ’cause it hasn’t been 25 years, but PLEASE: Nirvana BEFORE RHCP. Then feel free to put them in, they rock. BUT NOT BEFORE NIRVANA, IT’S JUST NOT RIGHT…

Now to my picks…

ABBA – The best-selling pop group not in the Hall of Fame. It’s the Beatles, then ABBA as far as worldwide sales of pop albums of groups go. Another point: There are some songs on their earlier albums that rock pretty hard, actually (Watch Out from 1974’s Waterloo album is a shining example of this) and their keyboardist Benny Andersson had his start in the rock group the Hep Stars, who were known as the “Swedish Beatles”. Another point, and probably the best one of all: Rock ‘n’ Roll was established in America, then with the British Invasion, England proved it could do it as well. Without ABBA to tell the rest of the world “Hey, it’s not only America and Britain that can do this, you can do it too,” only TWO countries would have any say at all in popular music, and 180 or so others wouldn’t even have a chance. And that SUCKS…

The Chantels – Absolutely: one of the first girl groups to gain any recognition in popular music. BUT: not before the brave, amazing, amazing-sounding, and dazzlingly-innovative (they even incorporated REGGAE sounds into their songs!) BOBBETTES. The Bobbettes are listed as INFLUENCES of the Chantels, so they should go in first…Listen to “I Shot Mr. Lee” (either version) for proof…

Darlene Love – one of the most powerful, earliest, and recognizable lead voices in the Phil Spector age of girl groups. She was the lead singer of the Crystals on “She’s a Rebel”. Enough said…

The Stooges – is this the ninth time or so that they’ve been nominated without an induction? Are the Stooges a primary influence on the development of punk rock, with Iggy Pop being as much the grandfather of punk rock as Lou Reed (of the already-inducted Velvet Underground)? Listen to, let’s say, Velvet Underground and Nico, then listen to Stooges’ first album of a couple of years later and YOU tell ME which one sounds more punk…and Velvet Underground kick ass…the Stooges are the most long-overdue band for Hof induction out there, PERIOD. END OF STORY…

Donna Summer – This comment is going to make a lot of people angry, but it’s the truth: Disco is just as much rock ‘n’ roll as rap/hip hop is. They BOTH have roots in dance music. So, if hip hop is going to be considered rock ‘n’ roll, then disco should be as well. Then, the top-selling, most-recognizable face of disco–a living legend–should make the Hall of Fame. Simple as that. After all, Donna Summer is MUCH, MUCH MORE significant in the world of disco than LL Cool J is in the world of hip hop. Like, by a million miles…

Having said all this, this is who I think WILL be inducted in 2010, if they induct 5:

LL Cool J
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Genesis
Jimmy Cliff
The Chantels

I’ll get my way with ONE of them, at least. Thanks for reading. STOOGES ABBA 2010

Lyteep | 10/10/2009, 10:29 pm EST

I also have to comment on Roy’s 6-day-old post: AGREED! Once the Stooges finally get in there, one of the most-excellent, most-underrated bands of the rock era-CHICAGO-will tie MC5 and New York Dolls as the most-overdue band deserving of induction into the Hall. Keep horns in Rock ‘n’ ROLL!!!!!!!!!!

Top 5 Groups Most Overdue For Induction Into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (may be slightly different from what I stated above):

1. Stooges
2. Chicago
3. Bobbettes
4. MC5
5. New York Dolls

Abba might be sixth or seventh on this list, actually…

InOhio | 10/14/2009, 3:54 pm EST

A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame without Warren Zevon is nothing but a building.

Anonymous | 10/14/2009, 9:15 pm EST

Instead of just 5 new inductees let’s do a re-think and drop a bunch of past artists who didn’t deserve to be in any Hall Of Fame. For instance, Alice Cooper’s 25+ albums/10’s thousands of live shows bumps out a 2-3 album artists like Mama’s and Papa’s ……

Dylan | 10/15/2009, 4:08 pm EST

OK!!! these are bands who should get into the hall in the future and if they don’t, the r&rhof is full of crap(which it already is!)The order dosen’t have anything to do with it:

Nirvana
Genesis
Rush

Yes
Yah i guess kiss, who i don’t like, but is responsible for a lot of good muscians first picking up a muscicle instument.
The stooges
The Red hot chili peppers
The cure
Alice cooper
alice in chains
boston
thin lizzy
Sonic youth
King crimson
Tool
Radiohead
Guns n roses
Pearl jam
Bon jovi
Beastie boys
Greenday(yes they deserve it,they have written some great stuff)
coldplay is a possibility depending on weather they’ll make an acception and the music they make in the future.
Dream theater
Dave matthews band
Foo fighters
Nine inch nails
Jack white
Josh homme
Thom Yorke
Tom Morello
Two bands i that i like to point out, maybe the two biggest rock bands out there right now, who i wish the best to in the future, and who should definitly be in the hall in my book: Kings of leon and Muse, two groups that have a talent and passion for music we have not seen in a very long time.

R.Eakin | 10/22/2009, 10:34 pm EST

Just my top 10 pick for future inductees:

Rush
Nirvana
Alice In Chains
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Guns N’ Roses
Radiohead
Deep Purple
Iron Maiden
Motley Crue

les | 10/23/2009, 12:32 am EST

UM Kiss that’s been rockin since 1973 or LLCoolJ HMM This rock roll hall of fame turning out to be some kind of a joke these days.

les | 10/23/2009, 12:37 am EST

LLCoolj isn’t even a musician. LOL

Terry | 10/23/2009, 8:05 pm EST

NO TO LL COOL J
NO TO RHCP
NO TO ABBA
YES TO KISS
YES TO RUSH
YES TO ALICE COOPER
YES TO JUDAS PRIEST
YES TO DEEP PURPLE
But I guess that wouldnt be PC.
And we all know us white folks need to be forced fed all this hip hop, cuz it makes us better people
right. So when does Judas Priest get inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame. Heres a well deserved F.U. to the PC folks who have shamed the Rock N’Roll Hall Of Fame. Im only 18 but I know what real rock n’ roll is. Dont insult me with LL Cool J or RHCP. Its time for the real rock n roll crowd to take back whats ours.
EVERYTHING!!!The radio, the MTV,and the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. We will no longer tolerate be watered down with lame r&b and hip hop crud. How many rock bands go on hip hop award shows??or motown?? see the double standard. Its so obvious that its sickening. Rock N’Roll is Rock N’Roll. The Loud guitar cannot and will not be tamed by some PC agenda.

Mike In Michigan | 10/25/2009, 1:20 am EST

I cannot believe that Bill Payne is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame under the category of Sideman.

Payne has contributed so much as a studio player to so many different
artists. His playing style has raised rock and roll to a higher level for so many other
rock and blues artists that he should be recognized.

Payne is a founding member of the band, Little Feat. He is considered to be one of the
finest American piano rock and blues players of our time.

He has played on albums by The Doobie Brothers,Pink Floyd, Bob Seger, The Allman Brothers
James Taylor, Toto, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Jimmy Buffett, Neil Diamond, Bryan Adams, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Stevie Nicks, Steppenwolf and many many more.

His resume is literally a who’s who of rock and roll and blues.

Why this guy is not in the R & R Hall of Fame is just totally amazing to me. Anyone that truly
knows rock and roll history should know and recognize that Bill Payne belongs in the Hall
under the category of Sideman.

There are so many unsung heroes of rock and roll and Billy Payne is certainly one of them that should rank at the top of the list.

Anonymous | 10/25/2009, 10:03 am EST

While I do believe that older artists, like Def Leppard and Cheap Trick, deserve a nomination (especially Def Leppard), I do believe the Red Hot Chili Peppers truly deserve it. While not mainstream rock, the Chili Peppers have completely revolutionized alternative music, bringing a new sound that has even begun affecting other areas of music, like funk-rock. The Red Hots are define rock and roll– they’re not the cliche “rock” band; they’re their own thing, which is what rock and roll’s all about– starting a legacy.

Anonymous | 10/25/2009, 10:07 am EST

WHY THE FUCK HASNT BOSTON BEEN INDUCTED YET?!! WTF.

bluewaterboy | 10/25/2009, 5:09 pm EST

Does any of this really surprise anybody? This boat has been sinking ever since they changed the name to the Rap and Roll Hall of Fame.

Anonymous | 10/30/2009, 12:29 pm EST

I don’t see an argument that could be made that RHCP should NOT be in. They are original, commercially successful over a very long period of time, and might have the most talented rhythm section (guitar, bass, drums) since Led Zepplin.

A lot of “snubs” being listed by some posters were good bands but had only a few years of actual success.

But, how Stevie Ray Vaughan is not in is mind boggling.

Benny Boy | 11/1/2009, 1:51 pm EST

What about TACO! He should be in there!

britpop | 11/1/2009, 2:55 pm EST

In a couple of years you could vote for Vanilla Ice.

Dusty Broom | 11/1/2009, 3:46 pm EST

What about Three Dog Night? These guys could sing their asses off. Has hit after hit in the 70’s. How bout Blood Sweat and Tears? Let us not forget the great David Clayton Thomas. Talk about a voice to be reckoned with. The rest of the band were beyond talented. What about the great singer songwriters? Jim Croce for example. The man only was only around for a hot minute but my God what a talent he was. Look at how many of his songs are radio staples to this day. Cat Stevens is another great overlooked talent left out. Nobody mentions John Denver but the man was an awsome songwriter, player and singer. People forget how big he was throughout the 70’s. What a shame to overlook these titans of musical talent.

JT | 11/1/2009, 4:08 pm EST

ABBA gets my vote. The guys were amazing songwriters. The girls were great singers and sexy as hell. They put out some of the best pop songs ever. If not the best. I’m an old rocker but I always had a soft spot for ABBA.

Lenny | 11/1/2009, 4:12 pm EST

STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN……nuff said!!!

Jim | 11/1/2009, 4:21 pm EST

Like to see the Shangri-Las get in. In my opinion they were one of the most original of all the girl groups of the sixties. Way ahead of their time. Also had some of the most original songs of any group of that or any era. “Out in the Streets” is a masterpiece. Mary Weiss is a treasure.

Dusty Broom | 11/2/2009, 1:12 am EST

Gordon Lightfoot is another of the great singer songwriters that never gets mentioned. The great Harry Chapin is another. Besides writing one of the best songs of all time, Taxi, he was one of the greatest humanitarians that has ever graced the stage. Playing one concert for himself and the next for charity. The man was pure class.

CG | 11/2/2009, 2:23 am EST

I agree about Shangri-Las. They were so ahead of their time, very “campy,” with songs like Leader of the Pack. Other female artists I would like to see get in: Heart, Linda Ronstadt, Lesley Gore, Cilla Black.
Lesley Gore’s song You Don’t Own Me had a big impact on girls in the mid-sixties. I like Laura Nyro, but I think she more appropriately belongs in the non-performer category as a song-writer which is where she made her greatest contribution.
Also, I think Sonny & Cher should be considered. This is a case of, “You had to have been there” to appreciate how unique and how cool they were when they first hit the scene. I remember all the buzz about them at school the first time they were on TV and sang “I’ve Got You, Babe.” A hippie married couple! Those clothes! Cher’s hair! That song!
As far as this year’s nominees, I’m rooting for The Hollies, Jimmy Cliff, and KISS!

thomas | 11/4/2009, 3:51 am EST

YES, THEY NEED A DEFINITION OF “ROCK & ROLL”.

LL COOL J?!?!?!?!

Anonymous | 11/5/2009, 12:49 pm EST

fuck LL Cool J,

rw93 | 11/5/2009, 6:44 pm EST

What is everyone getting worked up about? The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a complete joke. It’s like the Grammies for God sake. Let the critics decide who deserves acclaim and screw the people that buy the music and attend the concerts. Any place that calls itself a Hall of Fame that doesn’t already include Kiss, Rush, Boston, Genesis and so on doesn’t deserve our recognition of its own existence.

mindsoap | 11/6/2009, 2:37 pm EST

sure Red Hot Chilli Peppers deserve it..

Disgusted | 11/8/2009, 6:31 pm EST

Iggy Pop and the Stooges, give him a meal an tell him to put a shirt on, and take some singing lessons. What a joke. What in the world did the local NY troupe ever do to be considered for this, when there are so many others. Do you really mean to tell me he gets considered before Joe Cocker, and a long long list of others. If Iggy Pop had any class he would withdraw his name.

vkatnyte | 11/11/2009, 1:42 am EST

what I think is hilarious is that half of the idiots who post on here have some knowledge of music. The other half like giving blowjobs to overrated bands ala KISS and RHCP..Jimmy Cliff should be put in simply on his affect on our music culture especially during the ’70s.”The harder they come” ?? Hello!!BRILLIANT! Also RUSH and GENESIS both should be in there especially to promote the progressive rock movement-Now I say that only if YES or PinkFloyd or LedZeppelin are in already-but definitely RUSH!! Tom Sawyer??HEELLLLLLLLLLLLLOOO!!T hey took the idea of parts of an album to the next level! Without them you wouldn’t even have progressive rock internationally at all!!
Anyone who says that they don’t like RUSH-well then they don’t listen to music at all.Period. The Stooges??Hmm. well. I thought they were in any way..I mean i think to have Iggy Pop in there without them-is just dumb…That would just prove that this whole thing is a crock of shit-wouldn’t it??Thats like having Ian Mackaye nominated but not Fugazi!!Puh-lease..RedHotChill iPeppers??Jesus by the time they get to Fugazi, I’ll be 90 years old and in a senior home!! They need to up the amount of groups in there every year..Christ, the academy awards have TEN nominations for best picture..Oh and LL COOL J. Now thats a joke-you got to be kidding me-he puts out RAP ALBUMS..Who’s doing this list? SAM FREAKIN GOODY??

john mac | 11/11/2009, 2:08 pm EST

Ian Hunter solo, and Mott the Hoople deserve to be there. Ian continues to write, record and perform vital relevant music at the ripe young age of 70. The recent MTH reunion concerts prove beyond a shadow of a doubt the staying power of the music. Hats off to them all!

Burgerman | 11/13/2009, 3:00 pm EST

Whoever said Laura Nyro’s music was easy listening needs to be SHOT. Absolutely the furthest thing from the truth.

Jim Naysium | 11/16/2009, 8:51 pm EST

Pre Destroyer Kiss was an edgy band that kicked ass. Before Gene became Gene and little kids showed up. Long time ago, but true non the less. Give them their due and move on. Sick of hearing about it. RRHOF is a crock

David | 11/16/2009, 8:57 pm EST

I know that most won’t admit it but ABBA was one of the highest selling acts of all time, even out selling alot of groups that some would like to see on the list. Rock and Roll name first appeared in the 50′ not the 70’s. It is not solely for hard ‘rock’ bands. Votes are made by the influence and popularity of a group of which ABBA applies. Most on here I’m sure are younger people who really don’t know the influence that ABBA made and is openly admitted to by many members of the ‘hard’ rocks bands who have admitted they have listened to ABBA. It’s not just the beat of the music but the quality of it.

The Bishop | 11/18/2009, 6:36 pm EST

Its been disgraceful that KISS haven’t been inducted as of yet. their influence on musicians alone should have gotten them inducted long ago, not to mention longevity & record sales. RHCP also have had a great musical influence fusing Rock & Funk together. Give em their props already, DAMN!

Jim | 11/18/2009, 9:28 pm EST

I find it funny that anyone can say KISS doesn’t deserve to be in the RNRHOF. They’ve accomplished more than any other American Band, Influenced More people, and Bands, Laid the blueprints for Stage Shows, and can be recognized by more people around the world than anybody. My 23 Month Old Daughter knows who KISS is. People cant stand KISS because they got successful on a gimmick. WHO GIVES A SHIT!!! The Beatles had a gimmick too, and I LOVE THE BEATLES, but do you people realize that they were a F’N BOY BAND!? Their early songs were EASY to play. NOTHING COMPLEX! I love her, she broke my heart, SIMPLE!! Give it up! KISS, even long after they are gone will still be remembered, and loved. Last I checked Rock and Roll was all about not giving a F**K, and Im sure KISS doesnt give a F**K about the haters. They cash their checks either way!

Ferris Wiel | 11/20/2009, 11:52 am EST

Please don’t confuse Kiss with the Beatles. In a short span of 7 years, their recording catalog(simple or not), continues to amaze and inspire new generations around the world. They had the sense to get out when they could give no more, and they have been proven right. No substitutions like Vincent, St. John, et al. No scmalzty reunions with Julian after John Died. Sorry, but the likes of The Who, Stones, Dead and others who continue the pretense of working bands should be ashamed of themselves. Kiss will wind up with replacements for Paul and Gene at some point. You can write it down.

The Top 4 Charting Rock And Roll Bands Of All-Time On The Billboard 200 Albums Chart:

01. The Beatles
02. The Rolling Stones
03. The Beach Boys
04. Chicago

Chicago is the only band on that list that hasn’t been inducted. INDUCT CHICAGO NOW!

RTL | 11/20/2009, 4:33 pm EST

Chili Peppers? Gimme a major break. The RRHOF is a total joke. It’s just a way for that hippie-turned-rich-guy-in-a-su it Jann Wenner to play pretend like he’s relevent. The Chili Peppers did zero to influence anybody. It positively BAFFLES me that they’re in. Get Lemmy in there and P.S. -stop putting pics of that Bozo Bono in mag. Rolling Stone is like Bono-PORN these days. That band sucks. Worst rhythm section in popular music.
