- Pioneering turntablist Roc Raida passed away on Saturday, September 19th. Details are slim, but a source tells AllHipHop.com that reports that his death was related to injuries suffered from a car accident or a karate class are inaccurate. Roc Raida was a founding member of the New York DJ crew X-Ecutioners, whose pyrotechnic scratching helped redefine the art of turntablism in the ’90s.
- A judge in Los Angeles has ruled that Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine can challenge the administrators of his estate without losing her share in a family trust, according to BBC News. Her lawyers stated that she wanted more say in the estate even though the singer’s will contained a “no contest” clause.
- London’s glammy electronic crew Goldfrapp announced they are scoring the upcoming John Lennon bio pic, Nowhere Boy, according to a post on their official blog. The film about John Lennon’s life as a young boy is the directoral debut of British conceptual artist Sam Taylor. Goldfrapp is planning to record orchestral arrangements for the score in Abbey Road Studios before the film’s premiere on October 29th.
- The New York Times has more details about the extramarital affairs of one-time presidential candidate John Edwards, most interestingly, the report of an aide who recalls that Edwards once calmed his anxious mistress by promising a rooftop marriage with an appearance by the Dave Matthews Band. What a bro!
