“New Moon” Track List Reveals New Music From Thom Yorke, Killers, Muse

The track list for the upcoming soundtrack for Twilight sequel New Moon was revealed today on author Stephanie Meyer’s official Website. In addition to Death Cab for Cutie’s first single “Meet Me on the Equinox,” the soundtrack will feature contributions from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Muse, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver (who duets with fellow Breaking artist St. Vincent) and the Killers.

As it turns out, Yorke’s song on the New Moon soundtrack is neither of the two tracks featured on his new single “Feeling Pulled Apart By Horses” b/w “The Hollow Earth.” The Radiohead frontman has recorded a new song called “Hearing Damage” for the disc, which is out October 20th, a month to the day before New Moon hits theaters. The Killers also provided a new track called “A White Demon Love Song,” while Muse remixed their The Resistance song “I Belong to You for the soundtrack.

New Moon will also feature new music from Lykke Li, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Band of Skulls, Sea Wolf, Hurricane Bells, Anya Marina, Editors and the film’s composer Alexandre Desplat. OK Go, who gave the film a new track called “Shooting the Moon,” talked to Rolling Stone earlier this year about their tune, which they described as a sad song written from the perspective of an astronaut.

New Moon soundtrack track list:

1. Death Cab For Cutie – “Meet Me On The Equinox”
2. Band Of Skulls – “Friends”
3. Thom Yorke – “Hearing Damage”
4. Lykke Li – “Possibility”
5. The Killers – “A White Demon Love Song”
6. Anya Marina – “Satellite Heart”
7. Muse – “I Belong To You (New Moon)”
8. Bon Iver and St. Vincent – “Roslyn”
9. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – “Done All Wrong”
10. Hurricane Bells – “Monsters”
11. Sea Wolf – “The Violet Hour”
12. OK Go – “Shooting The Moon”
13. Grizzly Bear – “Slow Life”
14. Editors – “No Sound But The Wind”
15. Alexandre Desplat – “New Moon (The Meadow)”

Pretty disappointed to see so many fantastic artists selling out to such a crappy franchise…

Carrie | 9/21/2009, 4:38 pm EST

Matt why are you on this message board if you’re just talking crap about it?

Georgina | 9/21/2009, 4:38 pm EST

I’m so excited for the movie. and my favorite band of all time! THE KILLERS!!!!! :)

Carrie | 9/21/2009, 4:40 pm EST

Oh, and i’m super excited about the song choices for New Moon although I’d like to know why they got rid of Paramore…..

roxy | 9/21/2009, 4:51 pm EST

i hope it will be a champ movie

pq | 9/21/2009, 5:01 pm EST

Pretty stoked about a lot of those bands. But here’s a simple question: why such a great soundtrack for what will undoubtedly be quite a shit movie?

h_e_n_r_y | 9/21/2009, 5:02 pm EST

This soundtrack full of [mostly] great artists will be a hit.

And that day, Real Music will die. :(

Black Hole Sun | 9/21/2009, 5:09 pm EST

That soundtrack will be the only credible thing about the movie. And that photoshopped picture of Thom Yorke and Kristen Stewart is genius.

John | 9/21/2009, 5:43 pm EST

Mostly all of these bands are fabulous. Sad to see them used for such a bad movie but such is life I suppose.

A new killers track is welcome in whatever circumstances however

Eddie | 9/21/2009, 6:27 pm EST

Twilight isn’t really my thing…but I’m really excited about a new song by The Killers!

heathen2002 | 9/21/2009, 6:48 pm EST

Matt- I totally agree. Now indies are selling out.. It’s a sad day when these artists start to lose their integrity..

vampire lover since 1996 | 9/21/2009, 6:53 pm EST

okay i gonna miss paramore
i just got to say it

time | 9/21/2009, 7:11 pm EST

i totally support indie bands giving their tracks to these movies. it’s a great way to make money, and they really deserve it. they’ve got a lot of talent.

l-w | 9/21/2009, 7:18 pm EST

cant wait for the movie. the soundtrac is one thnig i love about movies. this one is amazing. new moon will be such a better movie, this time around. thanks to the new budget

Megan or TwilightOCD67 | 9/21/2009, 7:46 pm EST

i think she should have hate me by blue october my opinion.

cant wait for new moon though

she should also have paramore again

screenager | 9/21/2009, 7:46 pm EST

why abuse muse like this?

Huh. | 9/21/2009, 7:47 pm EST

I hate Twilight.

But this soundtrack is just filled with bands I like…

Well, I’ll definitely be buying this.

danae | 9/21/2009, 8:02 pm EST

i can’t wait for new moon

Emmie | 9/21/2009, 8:18 pm EST

Why do you assume New Moon will suck? How can so many people love a book and movie series so much if it’s so bad? Of course the movie will not be “beleivable”. It’s all about gothic fantasy and star crossed love..It’s supposed to be unrealistic! These bands are great and the soundtrack will be great, mzybe better than the first one. No one has sold out. Everyone wins. If you find these movies beneath you, go somewhere else!

Melissa | 9/21/2009, 8:46 pm EST

OMG who really cares what these bands do?!??!?! Yes they are great bands but they wanna make money too. Most people, when given the opportunity, will take a chance when they get it to have their work showcased to a larger audience..come on now.

Carly | 9/21/2009, 8:54 pm EST

I will most likely go and see this movie but only because the soundtracks awesome and I get to see Taylor Lautner topless… Mmm

Anonymous | 9/21/2009, 9:01 pm EST

that’s a sweet soundtrack yo. that’s cool that ok go is on it.

muff | 9/21/2009, 9:02 pm EST

sweet soundtrack yo. that’s sweet that ok go is on it.

Shelby | 9/21/2009, 9:04 pm EST

I love Twilight and can’t wait for New Moon so I don’t really care what anyone else says. If you hate it so much, don’t even bother seeing it or worrying about who’s playing on the soundtrack.

steph | 9/21/2009, 10:04 pm EST

awesome i can’t wait till it but the sountrack looks awesomer lol i want paramore

Tabatha | 9/21/2009, 11:52 pm EST

Track list is AWESOME. Cannot wait!

India | 9/22/2009, 3:17 am EST

Artists only sell out when they start making crap music to cater to a larger audience. If they keep their artistic integrity, why is it such a bad thing for a new audience to discover them?

Anonymous | 9/22/2009, 4:49 am EST

Grizzly Bear, Thom Yorke, Bon Iver and St. Vincent are on the soundtrack and people are excited for the KILLERS? Really?

WTF?

Joey High | 9/22/2009, 10:08 am EST

Kelly Clarkson’s song “Did You” deserved to be on that list. It was perfect for the movie and was very haunting. I’m saddened that it didn’t make the cut, but a great job on the song by Kelly.

Anon | 9/22/2009, 10:40 am EST

The movies and books aren’t necessarily loved for their artistic credibility but because most people would love to have a relationship that was as intense, a person that was so amazingly gorgeous, someone to be obsessed (in a good way) with them, and the possibility of living forever in that constant state of high emotion. Case closed

iLly | 9/22/2009, 10:43 am EST

Kudos to My Chemical Romance for declining to appear in this soundtrack.

Yup Yup | 9/22/2009, 12:02 pm EST

Interesting…that’s all I have to say. A pretty hip group of artists, I wonder though, are they too hip for a movie like New Moon? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

pj | 9/22/2009, 1:37 pm EST

That photoshop picture of Kirsten and Thom is brilliant. And she’s a real Radiohead fan! I guess I am looking forward to the music but certainly not the movie.

Cole | 9/22/2009, 1:38 pm EST

I am so glad Paramore is not on here and excited for the better band choices I see.

Parker | 9/22/2009, 1:59 pm EST

SELLOUTS

Anonymous | 9/22/2009, 2:00 pm EST

Yeah man! The Killers kick ass!

Mike Klander | 9/22/2009, 4:01 pm EST

Soundtrack looks interesting enough. Not enough for me to pick it up though.

singeezay | 9/22/2009, 4:10 pm EST

the killers are amazing
they are going to make the soundtrack! im so excited for this =DDD

nati | 9/22/2009, 4:56 pm EST

The Killers!!! Yeah!
(thom yorke in that pic is really funny :) )

ana | 9/22/2009, 5:00 pm EST

I don’t like that The Killers are now associated with Twatlight, but I love that us Victims get a new song :D

Amy | 9/22/2009, 5:11 pm EST

that picture is Fawesome.

…solid track list

Pleasantly Surprised | 9/22/2009, 5:47 pm EST

I was pleasantly surprised by the Twilight soundtrack. It’s not the type of music I usually listen to, but I really liked it, and subsequently bought it. I’m thinking the same will happen with this soundtrack. And actually – the transition from boy to wolf on the trailer looks pretty bad-ass. I don’t think it will suck at all

how about... | 9/22/2009, 6:14 pm EST

Thom Yorke should play Edward instead! That’s the only way you will have me watch the movie, no lie.

Anonymous | 9/22/2009, 8:49 pm EST

Damn, I could car eless about the movie but I’ll get that soundtrack!!

katiii b. | 9/22/2009, 10:25 pm EST

So I love Twilgiht and all, but I swear if fangirls ruin the Killers for me..! Otherwise the soundtrack sounds really good.

comeon | 9/22/2009, 10:43 pm EST

Would people shut up about selling out already? its 2009, not 1991. The only thing that matters is the quality of music. Who honestly cares what movie it happens to be attached to if the music’s good? I might just buy the soundtrack and not even watch the movie to be honest…

Figures | 9/22/2009, 10:53 pm EST

Of course, a Mormon movie has the Killers on the soundtrack with their Mormon singer. Their plan to take over the world is one step closer. . .

Hey | 9/22/2009, 11:34 pm EST

The Killer = <333333

Blake | 9/23/2009, 12:13 am EST

This soundtrack doesn’t deserve that crappy franchise. Thom York liking twilight, who would’ve thought?

Jill | 9/23/2009, 2:05 am EST

First off, that picture is way too disturbing to illicit any kind of amusement. Second, the Twighlight series is just about the most fantastically mediocre fiction on vampires. Vegan sparkling vampires?!lmao Third, I could not express how disappointed I am of Thom even though I am a huge Radiohead fan. Honestly man? What has gotten into you that made you stoop this low?

tempeltunl | 9/23/2009, 5:39 am EST

according recent expected major program weathering

Rob | 9/23/2009, 12:53 pm EST

Thom Yorke is getting a damn good paycheck, why would you blame him?

em | 9/23/2009, 2:32 pm EST

Any soundtrack that includes a Killers song is priceless to me!

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 2:36 pm EST

Blah, Killers…I am disappointed in you boys! You guys are already on top, what are you trying to prove? Shame.

CCM | 9/23/2009, 2:38 pm EST

OH MY cant wait for this as well as the film and best of all has my fave band of all time on it with a new song!!!! THE KILLERS ABSOLUTELY ROCK MY SOCKS OFF pah dave reference!!
:)

That guy | 9/23/2009, 3:01 pm EST

Holy $@%&! Look at all those great modern bands/artists: Thom Yorke, Muse, Grizzly Bear, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, plus a few others I kinda like. And anyone saying “SELLOUTS,” is it all that horrible to a write a song for a movie? I mean I don’t wanna pull in any non-related topics, but there’s a lot of crap going on these days, and whether someone is “SELLING-OUT” is the least of my concerns. Besides who hasn’t “SOLD-OUT” in some way?

And no I’m not a Twilight fan, but come on it’s just a movie, fads come and go get it over it(Remember N’SYNC? Of course you do, similar kind of effect).

Good thing I have a little sister so I don’t have to be seen buying this at my local music store, hehe.

oh please | 9/23/2009, 6:01 pm EST

Anyone criticizing Thom Yorke for letting his music be used for shitty movies obviously hasn’t been a Radiohead fan for very long. They lent Fake Plastic Trees and My Iron Lung to the makers of Clueless with Alicia Silverstone in 1995.

But maybe you guys are right and they did sell out for money. After all, look how mainstream and safe their albums after that were. OK Computer, Kid A, all complete trash, right?

Idiots.

That guy | 9/24/2009, 12:04 am EST

And to add to “oh please’s” statement, they also lended Talk Show Host to the Romeo and Juliet movie, unless that movie is cool.

That guy | 9/24/2009, 12:07 am EST

Oh and they also contributed Exit Music(For A Film) to Romeo and Juliet, hehe.

Karen | 9/24/2009, 9:09 am EST

I think it’s fantastic that such great bands are lending their music. It’s great exposure for them, and let’s face it, they are in the music BUSINESS to make MONEY, hello! Not SELLOUTS but a good BUSINESS decision! And furthermore, how can anyone say it’s a shit movie when they haven’t even seen it yet? Are you physic? Maybe it’s not your cup tea, then hey don’t go see it. Just buy the CD and enjoy the good music.

Oh, and YEAH a new Killers song!! Absolutely NOTHING wrong with that!!

Skylar. | 9/24/2009, 1:08 pm EST

Let me voice my opinion on the matter.

Firstly, to all of the people saying “Go somewhere else to complain,” this is a public thread. If you are incapable of presenting any argument or taking any criticism, perhaps you shouldn’t have poted or started reading in the first place?

Secondly, I disapprove of this. I personally dislike the Twilight series. It is amking mediocre, unoriginal fiction of vampires and lowring the mythological credibility of the good vampire name. Why, you may ask this elitist, do you disapprove? To which I would say, “Because.” Because of all the teenage girls who will put this one song by this one fantastic artist on their iPods, and never listen to another thing of the likes of Thom, Grizzly Bear, or Muse. They will go back to litsening to Shakira, Lady GaGa, and whoever-the-hell the mainstream has been suckered to like nowadays.

You people honestly don’t realize these artists don’t care about the money. They care about the music. Otherwise, why would Radiohead release their last album for whatever you wanted to pay (i.e. free)? For these artists to sell themselves to another bland teen romance movie is a shame. A solid shame.

And so is my opinion. Good day.

Avery | 9/25/2009, 1:19 pm EST

Verry dissapointed at the moment :(
I Heard that Tokio Hotel was gonna have a song in new moon.. Hmm.. Maybe it will be in Eclipse. Well… Im still dissapointed. I was looking forward to the day that I would sit in a theatre and hear Tokio Hotel’s “Dark Side of the Sun” blast as I screamed my head off. Well.. I am hoping the tracklist is wrong. (Or maybe lissing a song or too) But i dont want to get my hopes up :(

Wow | 9/25/2009, 4:58 pm EST

that picture is so accurate, it’s scary except Thom looks like he has a longer neck than usual.

Lynn | 9/26/2009, 1:22 pm EST

i thought tokio hotel would have a song on there too their songs match the stories PERFECTLY but in a way i’m happy cuz twilight is too mainstream for me i don’t want tokio hotel associated with that!

Terra | 9/26/2009, 7:59 pm EST

Soundtrack? sounds great. No paramore? im sad….. :( how will it work with the movie? no idea. how will the movie turn out? no idea. why do twilight haters look up twilight things just to comment on it? no idea. i love the books and i dont get how they can possibly be bad but more importanly…. how long will taylor be shirtless in this movie…? :D

Anonymous | 9/26/2009, 11:15 pm EST

Great artists on the soundtrack!
That picture is funny, yet rather creepy…

Jay Of Da Jungle | 9/29/2009, 11:53 am EST

Funny picture, bad movie franchise (though my girlfriend loves it, great group of artists. Supposedly the soundtrack is handpicked by the author of the books. Got to admit she’s got great taste in music, but for my vampire-based entertainment dollar, it’s True Blood all the way.

Nicole | 9/30/2009, 7:54 pm EST

Well, Thank God that Horrid Kelly Clarkson Song didn’t make the Cut! However, I am bummed that Hana Pestle song “NEED” didn’t make it in, It was soo fitting, the melody and the lyrics. I hope that the music actually fits in the right places.

Megan | 10/3/2009, 8:00 pm EST

Get over yourselves. Sellout? Its 2009, aren’t we all a little old for categorizing? Just enjoy the music this movie is providing, and what the artist puts out any other time. Do you really think these bands lose sleep over their decisions or your opinions? Give me a break “indie selling out”. Look around you, there are these “hipsters” everywhere and every other clique under the sun. That’s how the world turns.

I am looking forward to this soundtrack, I enjoyed the last one with Blue Foundation and The Black Ghosts. I am always looking for new music to look into, and hey, if a movie brings an artist to light that I have never heard of, easier for me than researching. Oh I am sorry, music can only be enjoyed by the friends and family of these bands, not promoted for other outlets to enjoy… Because that’s how the music industry works, ha!

Bronco | 10/5/2009, 11:15 am EST

ahaha….the people being disappointed that Tokyo Hotel and Paramore aren’t on this soundtrack are the people who represent the taste of the Twilight population who don’t know good music.See, they don’t know half the bands on here. Stop confusing them and just give them their trash album that they want to go with their trash movie.
Although, The Killers and Thom Yorke and Muse are the only three on here who probably aren’t sell outs because they’re already famous. They don’t need more fans and could care less if they got any more. They’d never notice if their fanbase went up or down. That’s how famous they are.

Also, I noticed all the people defending New Moon are all girls….figures.
Says enough in itself as to why they think it’s going to be good. They probably thought Twilight was good too….
haha.

Vera | 10/14/2009, 12:04 pm EST

This is sad…

I’m relieved that Bon Iver hasn’t changed his style for the wads of cash he’ll receive from this. I just fear I’ll be sitting on a bus near some tween Twi-Hards screeching about the awesomeness of Edward Cullen and
“that Bon Iver guy” .. as if they’re even in the same boat . . that will be a sad day.

Rachel | 10/30/2009, 6:47 pm EST

awesome love all of these exsept new moon never listened to it but it sounds cool

PHaefner172 | 11/1/2009, 11:15 pm EST

Wow! I didn’t really know any of these bands except The Killers, but now I’ll look them up. Oh wait, I know some of Muse’s music. Anyways, now I have some new artists to start listening to. After all, thanks to Twilight, I started listening to Mutemath and Muse. And hey, new music from The Killers! How awesome is that!

Jack | 11/6/2009, 11:54 am EST

In explanation as to why many are upset or afraid about these bands “selling out,” and why people are searching this and commenting on it: People put stock in these bands, say, Grizzly Bear, because of their artistic integrity, and because to a certain degree, they are refined, like a form of high art. You see, to people, like myself, checking pitchfork everyday, watching music bogs, etc., bands like these, like Bon Iver, are special, and it’s disappointing and disheartening to see them fumbled into the prepubescent hands of hormonally crazy tween girls, who we feel will either not appreciate the music, or turn it into something they can suck the life out of by warping our high art into a crass form of self-pitying melodramatic emotional fodder that constitutes the rest of their tween-culture. That, mixed with the reputation the Twilight series has of being pop-culture trash (whether it is or isn’t, it’s the reputation), hurts us. We put faith in these bands; we buy concert tickets; we follow album releases; we read and write reviews; we may even make covers; and then we hear word that they are attaching their names to a project that is devoured by what we would consider the basest of all demographics: little girls who tear out their hearts for this fad-culture icon– the butt of a joke we, the music-lover community, thought we were all in on. And so, we do what we do best: peruse the internet for proof that the rumors are true, then opinions on that truth, and so on and so on, accruing as much information on the dismal turn of events as possible. And in these travels, we may stumble onto a page much like this one. There, tired, mildly depressed, and over all disheartened by the “selling out” of these bands we invested so much trust in as artists- not in the musician part of the term, but artist as defined by a kind of intangible greatness- we sit among comments about how ‘hottt’ the ‘twilight boiz’ are (don’t focus on that quote), written by girls who name themselves “Kristen Stewart,” who over use emoticons and forget apostrophes. In the midst of this, we feel the need to speak out about our troubles, and we do so. Is it all based on a series of misguided assumptions? Maybe it is, maybe it’s not. Just because we seem like snobs, doesn’t mean we’re wrong (nor does it mean we’re right). Whatever the case may be, this is perhaps an explanation as to why we are upset about the “New Moon Fiasco,” and why we are talking about it: there’s nothing more we can really do other than shuffle back to our music blogs and hope and pray that the music we call beautiful and lasting doesn’t become a giggly teen fad. The die is cast.

lynnette | 11/6/2009, 2:42 pm EST

i have too say i think the first track is better…. but it won’t stop me from buying this one too
cant wait till movies out ive pre booked ma ticketxx

William | 11/12/2009, 7:11 pm EST

THEY ARE STEALING ALL MY GOOD BANDS AND GIVING THEM BAD NAMES EDITORS, GRIZZLY BEAR… HOW DID THEY GET TRICKED INTO THIS!

Michelle | 11/13/2009, 6:45 am EST

I really can’t see why people are getting bent out of shape over this. For one thing, the bands AGREED to be on the album, and for another thing, they’re probably going to make MORE money from just having one song on the album, than they possibly made with one whole album! I think it’s an incredibly smart move by the up and comings to get associated with such a hotly discussed topic, and you have to admit, that hate it, or love it, the whole Twilight saga has got EVERYONE talking. Hell, even my 65 year old father knows about the saga!

Why can the hipsters just not be happy with the fact that their favourite band can now sit back for a bit, live off the benefits of being on the New Moon soundtrack (new fans, more money, more marketability etc) and write a genuinely awesome album that will appeal to old and new fans alike, instead of bitching that their little elitist “club” has been breached by tweens who have apparently be “brainwashed” into liking a bad simply because they’re on the soundtrack?
