Foo Fighters Reveal “Greatest Hits” Track List

The Foo Fighters have revealed the track list for their November 3rd best-of collection, fittingly titled Greatest Hits. As Rolling Stone previously reported, Greatest Hits will boast a pair of Butch Vig-produced new tracks, “Word Forward” and new single “Wheels,” which will receive the music video treatment from Sam Brown, director of their clip for “The Pretender.” All of the six-time Grammy-winning group’s hits are represented, from “This is a Call” to “Everlong” to “My Hero” to “Best of You.”

In addition to the standard version of the collection, the deluxe edition will be accompanied with a bonus DVD featuring a select Foo videography (including the “Wheels” vid), live footage from the band’s concerts at Wembley Stadium, Hyde Park and the Skin + Bones theater tour and possibly a few more Easter eggs hidden throughout. The deluxe will also house a 28-page book with never-before-seen photos of the band throughout their 15-year history.

Frontman Dave Grohl has also spent the past months back behind the drums with the newest rock supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, also featuring Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones. Grohl is also embroiled in a little bit of controversy regarding his old band and a certain video game.

Greatest Hits track list:

“All My Life”
“Best Of You”
“Everlong”
“The Pretender”
“My Hero”
“Learn To Fly”
“Times Like These”
“Monkeywrench”
“Big Me”
“Breakout”
“Long Road To Ruin”
“This is a Call”
“Skin and Bones”
“Wheels”
“Word Forward”
“Everlong (acoustic)”

Where the hell is “I’ll stick around”??? It was only one of their biggest hits and all…

Joe | 9/21/2009, 7:10 pm EST

…yet they have “breakout” on there – was that even a single?? Great song, but I’ve never heard it outside of listening to the album itself.

SPiCOLi | 9/21/2009, 9:52 pm EST

If you’re really a fan of the Foos, spin the original albums, skip most of the tracks listed here, and enjoy a greatest hit…

Orgo | 9/21/2009, 11:54 pm EST

Where the fuck is The One?

DGS | 9/21/2009, 11:59 pm EST

February Stars…….it’s the best Foo’s song of the lot – where is it?

Anonymous | 9/22/2009, 1:09 am EST

No “I’ll Stick Around”?! What a terrible oversight. It’s the first single they made a video for–their first video at all, for that matter–and, was, therefore, for many, our first introduction to the band.

DGS-335 | 9/22/2009, 1:09 am EST

jojo | 9/22/2009, 5:53 am EST

What the HELL! No “I’ll Stick Around”, no “Next Year”, no “The One”, no “No Way Back”!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could name others (because they have had over 20 hits or so)but it’s pointless. They should have put out a hits album like Pearl Jam did with 2 cd’s. Damn it, no “Darling Nikki” either!!!!

Shaan | 9/22/2009, 6:05 am EST

Wow, this is woeful

Alex | 9/22/2009, 7:11 am EST

For me their greatest hit is ‘End over End’.

They could have easily made this a double CD – but kudos for the new tracks… at least they’re making it SLIGHTLY worth while for people who already own all the CDs…

Cheesecrop | 9/22/2009, 8:48 am EST

I’m aware it’s already been said, but this band could create a double album with all the hits they’ve had so far.

They’re obviously going with the major radio hits, but luckily these are very good. I think everybody’s got a personal favorite song that nobody else thinks is great. My one is “My Poor Brain”, from “Colour & the Shape”. I also notice no covers – “Baker Street”, “Band on the Run”, etc. I always liked the cover of “Down in the Park”.

All in all, it’s still pretty good.

Oddjob | 9/22/2009, 9:28 am EST

It’s really a great, big, giant ommission that “The One” was not included- their big hit that wasn’t on any of their albums. Same goes for the B-sides that got big radio play- Baker Street, Down In The Park, Darling Nikki. It’s nice that there are new songs, but this was a missed opportunity.

Ed | 9/22/2009, 10:37 am EST

DOA/I’ll Stick Around/Stacked Actors are all missing, and yet Skin and Bones is on there? hmmm…

Anonymous | 9/22/2009, 12:47 pm EST

resolve, february stars and i’ll stick around are missing, come foo’s you can load in your honor for two cd’s of filler but you can’t pack your graetest’s hits the way their supoused to be!

febstars | 9/22/2009, 12:49 pm EST

I agree, it’s sad February Stars isn’t on there

what he foo? | 9/22/2009, 1:04 pm EST

only one song from in your honor? and what about “low” and darling nikki?!

Drexel | 9/22/2009, 2:19 pm EST

greatest hits albums are for housewives and little girls.

Noel | 9/22/2009, 2:52 pm EST

Foos have had so many big rock radio hits they probably could have gotten away with a double album. They put out at least 4 singles from each record that all charted top 20 on rock singles charts (if not pop single charts.)

But it doesn’t matter anyway, in the age of mp3 singles downloads, greatest hit records are redundant. People with a casual interest in certain songs (the key buyers of best of collections) will just download what they want, and the true fans will just download the new tracks.

And yes, Breakout was a actual single. CD single release, video and all.

Scott | 9/23/2009, 9:46 am EST

When was February Stars ever a hit? Maybe the new version of Walking After You from the X-Files movie soundtrack.
But no I’ll Stick Around is a huge miss.

Zeaglemeister | 9/23/2009, 10:27 am EST

Where is the In Your Homour Stuff? Where is Stranger Things Have Happened? I have the entire discography and this is not worth the money…

EEM2009 | 9/23/2009, 11:17 am EST

My picks would have been this:

1. This Is A Call
2. I’ll Stick Around
3. Big Me
4. Down In The Park
5. Monkey Wrench
6. My Hero
7. Everlong
8. Learn To Fly
9. Breakout
10. The One
11. All My Life
12. Times Like These
13. Best Of You
14. No Way Back
15. D.O.A.
16. The Pretender
17. Long Road To Ruin
18. Let It Die
19. Wheels (new song)
20. Word Forward (new song)

They’re missing some hits but at least most of the big ones are on there, and I want the deluxe one with the DVD of (hopefully) all of their crazy and hilarious videos!!!

sL | 9/23/2009, 3:05 pm EST

To be honest they couldn’t please everyone, but there are a few songs that should be on the Greatest Hits, such as I’ll Stick Around, The One, Stacked Actors, DOA, Stranger Things Have Happened, Have It All, and Lonely As You. Pretty disappointed really, but still got all the albums. The really good stuff is on the albums. Don’t buy this album. Wheels is going to be a single, but I don’t know about Word Forward. Rip off. PLEASE CHANGE THE TRACKLIST.

Ashley G. | 9/23/2009, 3:50 pm EST

Good Grief? By far the best Foo song!

Anonymous | 9/23/2009, 5:20 pm EST

no DOA or Ill Stick Around two of the biggest Foo’s songs !! … Generator ? Stacked Actors ? Cheer Up Boys ? In Your Honour ? can’t say im alll that impressed with the lineup ….

Ken | 9/23/2009, 5:25 pm EST

Skin and Bones is terrible!! Can’t believe This is a call made it over I’ll stick around. DOA,Resolve,or No way back are not there either. The song the One sucked so I’m gald that didnt make it at least. For the moron who said “why isnt febuary stars on there”? ..are you kidding me? this is a greatest hits chief! That song was never played on the radio or whatever.

Ken | 9/23/2009, 5:33 pm EST

Id like to see their bsides get a real release on a collection someday because there is like 40 to 50 songs that are non albulm tracks.

Cinthia | 9/23/2009, 5:37 pm EST

Let it die should have been here!!!
wtf!
defenatly not happy with the list.. after being out for a while I would expect better! :(
Anyone know any tour dates coming to cali??
when???

Mard Dune YU | 9/23/2009, 9:18 pm EST

Biggest omission – Stacked Actors

TurtleTrevor | 9/24/2009, 2:16 am EST

Honestly the greatest hits should have been a 7 cd set which included every cd they have made so far and a few extras for the hell of it. Dave Grohl= muscial god

so disappointed | 9/24/2009, 6:03 am EST

Where’s Generator and Hey, Johnny Park??? With their back catalogue surely there was enough for a double disc?????

monty | 9/24/2009, 9:35 am EST

We can argue about this forever. We all know how many awesome songs they have, but not all can make it on the ‘Greatest Hits’ album. Good on em’ for making this album, should be cool.

Steve Austin | 9/24/2009, 1:18 pm EST

Why the hell would anyone buy a gretaest hits album anymore when you can make your own. My Foos greatest hits is 3 cds long.

jake | 9/25/2009, 1:27 am EST

how could u leave out generator, stacked actors, let it die, no way back,DOA,but honestly, reslove n the one

monty | 9/25/2009, 5:28 am EST

its good to have

Alison | 9/25/2009, 6:58 am EST

Let’s face it, if you’re a real foo fan you’re going to have all the tracks anyway and are probably still going to buy the deluxe version to complete your collection. They have SO many great tracks, that it’s impossible for them to please eveyone; like ‘Steve Austin’, my foo compilation runs to about 86 tracks.
If the release of ‘Greatest Hits’brings some more foo fans to the fold, all the better.Dave=God

brengun | 9/26/2009, 6:30 am EST

shut the hell up and never ever question the foo fighters

Rosie | 9/27/2009, 12:00 am EST

Though know one’s completely happy, the band obviously chose those songs for a reason so we should have some trust in the Grohl. He is a legend after all…

good_night_kiwi | 9/27/2009, 4:08 am EST

I have all the currently released songs, so I’ll just make my own play list and listen to that… I’m still going to buy the album, or else I wouldn’t be a fan.

Chris | 9/27/2009, 4:45 pm EST

If you guys are such big fans, you should have most, if not all, of their albums. In which case there’s no need for you to whine about their ‘Greatest Hits’ outside of their new singles, which you can download seperately. So I speak for myself and anyone that agrees when I say; SHUTUP.

*Foo Fighters rule*

Athena | 9/27/2009, 7:45 pm EST

:( No “Let It Die” ether… Who wrote this!?

dave | 9/28/2009, 12:22 am EST

dont complain its there fav hits not urs.!

Jim | 9/28/2009, 1:05 pm EST

Weenie Beannie is a great song too. But like some people on here said, they can’t please everyone. Now just get this cd out and then hurry up and get in the studio and make another great one.

marvin | 9/28/2009, 1:44 pm EST

Foo Fighters is my favorite band ever. Im happy with this new cd.

craig | 9/28/2009, 11:56 pm EST

DOA is a modern rock #1 and a gold selling single and Ill Stick Around is one of the qunitessential Foo songs. As a 14 yr old in 1995, this song essentially introduced me to the band. Who the hell put this thing together and managed to miss these songs? Not to mention a half of dozen other charting songs. This should have been a double…or im sure there was at least room on this thing for ISA and DOA. Why cant anyone do a best of right?!

SMC | 9/29/2009, 12:57 am EST

“This Is A Call” was their first ever song recorded, and their first ever single. You can’t leave it off.

TequilaMockingbird | 9/29/2009, 6:57 am EST

The fact is that there’s enough Foo material for a second Best Of album. Think about it:

1. DOA
2. Hey Johnny Park
3. No Way Back
4. Next Year
5. Let It Die
6. The One
7. Stacked Actors
8. Stranger Things Have Happened
9. February Stars
10. Walking After You

So even though Breakout or Skin and Bones could’ve been replaced with any of the above, someone would have a problem with it – there are just too many good Foo songs!

monty | 9/29/2009, 9:41 am EST

Foo fighters – woooooooo

Sjceruti6 | 9/29/2009, 1:26 pm EST

I have to agree with some of you in saying it’s their greatest hits and they choose. There are way to many songs that are so different to put everyone’s favorites on there. If I had my way, stranger things have happened and Big Me would be on there.

mth | 9/29/2009, 8:18 pm EST

Aurora is my favorite foo song but it isnt on here…which i never would have expected. that is what makes a great band…they have 20 hits and everyone thinks they have 50 more that should be on this album

pakoo | 9/30/2009, 12:20 pm EST

all the songs of the foos are great and they know it , and if youre favorite song isnt in the greatest hits no matter man its a good work of the foos and they cant complace all the peoplee

AC | 9/30/2009, 4:29 pm EST

Boo hoo – if you’re a real Foo fan you already own all of their CD’s anyways so quit whining!

Aaron | 9/30/2009, 8:30 pm EST

wtf where is DOA

Susan | 10/1/2009, 12:27 am EST

All FF tracks are great. Putting together their greatest hit CD = an impossible task. I’ll take a helping of live Foo footage and Easter eggs any day.

MarvinG. | 10/1/2009, 2:56 pm EST

i Vote for a Foo Fighters cover in the Rolling Stone Magazine.
is The Best Rock Band.

AP75021 | 10/1/2009, 9:28 pm EST

You can’t put every single track the band has done onto a greatest hits collection, yo’d have to make it a boxed set, and if you’re that big a fan, don’t you have all of that stuff already, or would you be bitching about how expensive the whole thing would be?

The True Fan | 10/2/2009, 4:55 am EST

I just read every last comment on this page and all i see is fake fans.
dont sit there and claim ur a true fan and ur going to download the new songs and tell people not to buy it! if thats you then go listen to a band for hacks, coz thats all you really are!

i have wheels on youtube and im playing it over and over again!i have every foo fighters album original and ive been to their past 3 tours. theyre my favorate band and ive folowed dave grohl through all his bands like wise with taylor hawkins and nate mendal.

of corse there is going to be songs that couldnt and didnt make the greatest hits, but seriously, this isnt about your personal favorates…its hardly even about their personal favorates! its about the ones that had the most success! charts and all that crap…thats what defines it as a greatest hit! so ‘true fans’ stop whinging coz we love em for ALL they are, not just the special hits…so suck it up, buy the albuum, get tickets for the tour and be a real true fan!!

Anonymous | 10/2/2009, 6:37 pm EST

My Greatest Hits track list:

“All My Life”
“Best Of You”
“Everlong”
“The Pretender”
“My Hero”
“Learn To Fly”
“Times Like These”
“Monkeywrench”
“I’ll Stick Around”
“Breakout”
“Long Road To Ruin”
“This is a Call”
“Skin and Bones”
“Wheels”
“Word Forward”
“Everlong (acoustic)”

Tray | 10/3/2009, 1:08 am EST

Everybody needs to just shut up and stop complaining!! My God!! I have never seen so many babies in my life. Like many have said, if you’re such a big fan, you should own all or most of the CD’s. I Do. Plus its their favs, not yours.

And if you’re gonna complain, at least be smart about it.

You sound like a fucking retard when you’re like, “Aurora is my favorite song”, ot “Febuary Stars is the best, why isn’t it on here?”

First off, if the song you want on there wasn’t a single you can’t comlpain.

I will say that DOA, Big Me, Let It Die, I’ll Stick around, and stacked Actors would have been on there if it was me, but thats me.

For example one of my favorite Foo songs is “Come Alive” Alot of people may not like that song, so i’m not gonna complain. The foo Fighters have done so much for rock, so quit your bitchin and appreciate the music they make instead of complaining about the ones they didn’t put on their greatest hits. Gosh…I mean its just a fucking compilation, get over yourslef

munty | 10/3/2009, 3:09 am EST

Lovin that new tune ‘Wheels’. It nice, easy listening

mickser | 10/3/2009, 7:01 am EST

cant believe its not a double album. its worth buying 4 d everlong acoustic but dey left out: i’ll stick around, february stars. new way home, down in d park, baker street, next year, generator, low, the one and but honestly. i know most wont agree buts dats my personal choice of songs

foo fan | 10/3/2009, 4:38 pm EST

So is times like these the original acoustic version, or the album version?

REAL Foo Fan | 10/5/2009, 10:34 am EST

I heard “Wheels” this morning on XM. It’s reminds me of how Blink 182 brought on and encouraged “Wuss Punk”. It’s crap and a reminder of why music sucks today. Listen to something like Watershed and then compare it to Wheels. It will remind you how bad Foo Fighers have come and why I stopped buying their records albums ago despite the fact they were my favorite band growing up (I collected bootlegs and all kinds of random hard to find stuff from them).

blumpy | 10/5/2009, 9:40 pm EST

“Wheels” sucks, the foos are beginning to sell out. I’m fine with the greatest hits because it’s ultimately the bands favorite singles, but c’mon “Wheels” sounds like a friggin Eagles tune

Anonymous | 10/6/2009, 6:24 pm EST

Fuck all of you. Appreciate the 15 years of good music and stfu.

supraman | 10/6/2009, 10:17 pm EST

i like how everyone is pissed that the foos tried to give an ablum for the people who wanna try out their music its really great that they’re giving us a 28 page photo thing a whole crap load of live material and new songs so if you’re mad your loss :(

Edgar | 10/6/2009, 10:42 pm EST

so many songs are missing, one CD isnt big enough for their Greatest Hits! FOO FIGHTERS OWN !!!
Wheels is ok i guess, but RCA pressured them to a more pop-ish song
doesnt feel right

AMcG799 | 10/7/2009, 5:21 pm EST

Neone know if the Everlong Acoustic is from skin and bones or the studio version?

claire | 10/8/2009, 3:09 pm EST

wheres DOA

Anonymous | 10/9/2009, 2:46 pm EST

You people are too picky. While “I’ll Stick Around”, “The One”, and a lot of their other stuff rightfully deserve a place on this album, you people should be happy that its being released and that the band has had such a good run. DOA wouldve been cool tho.

Oaks31 | 10/10/2009, 5:13 pm EST

A double album would have been great but as musically briliant as the Foos are, I’m sure they know what they’re doing. Have faith!!!

Anonymous | 10/12/2009, 10:35 am EST

My fav foo song is ‘Hey, Johnny Park!’

Fooever | 10/12/2009, 4:54 pm EST

This album is nbd to me. I’ve loved this band since I first saw them @ Mike Watt tour in Cali back in the 90’s and I always will. But they’ve definitely changed and while I don’t like this new “Eagles/midwest” sound, I can respect what they’re after because peoples tastes change after 15 years. I’m still waiting for a b-sides though. Also, good re-releases of some of my favs Good Grief, Gas Chamber, Butterflies, Aurora, Requiem and Walking A Line maybe?!! Wish that was likely.

Brucesta | 10/26/2009, 4:45 am EST

Switch Skin and Bones with Marigold. good album and like everyone else has said if you’re a fan you’ll have every album. Your buying this for the new songs, sure they are softer than 15 years ago but look at the progression from say Weenie Beenie to Let It Die, so much more thought into the structure of the song.

Here’s hoping they keep pumping out the hits and they release a back catalouge of all there singles and guest appearance stuff like Down In The Park etc.

hsqs | 10/27/2009, 2:33 pm EST

Disenchanted Lullaby is one of the best

bob | 10/27/2009, 2:41 pm EST

gas chamber should have been on there, also when will late – pocketwatch be properly released as i had the cassette but its now broke and i cant find a replacement

Ryan | 10/27/2009, 3:13 pm EST

They already have a greatest hits album. It’s called The Colour and the Shape.

People are clamoring for “The One”? Are you serious? That song marked the beginning of the end for the Foo’s, I’m sorry. They’ve had moments of greatness here and there since the dawn of the 2000’s, but they’ve been far fewer and further between. Disc 1 of In Your Honor blows. Just blows.

Jeremy | 10/31/2009, 9:53 pm EST

Nobody mentioned For All The Cows off their first album. The bonus video disc could have included the video for Breakout from Me, Myself & Irene.

NZ Steve | 10/31/2009, 11:18 pm EST

Ultimately the album decision is made by the foo’s and the record company…
I’m guessing these are a mixture of their favorites and the biggest selling hits.

It would have been awesome if they had made it a double disk, so they could include hits like:
1. I’ll Stick Around
2. For All The Cows
3. Walking After You
4. Hey, Johnny Park!
5. Stacked Actors
6. Generator
7. Next Year
8. The One
9. Low
10. Have It All
11. DOA
12. No Way Back
13. Resolve
14. Cheer Up, Boys
15. Let It Die

Although i’m sure everyone has their own personal favorites.
Like mine which is Generator.

To anyone who hasn’t heard any of the song i listed, i recommend you grab a few of there albums and find a few of the gems that never made radio as well.

In my opinion, the foo’s sound has always been one thats has changed slightly… saying that, they have managed to still make each record unique in it’s own way. I believe with their latest sound change on ESPG, they are treading thin water as it is the most “poppy” sound yet and i believe ESPG is their weakest album to date…

I hope, for everyone’s sake, they don’t do what band like LIVE has done and settle on this weak generic pop sound.

My final comment is to express my wish that the Foo’s would release a B-Sides / Covers album, so that they can make some of their rarer track of the past more accessible to some of their less committed fans.

some guy | 11/1/2009, 3:13 pm EST

i agree with EEM2009

i love monkey wrench and everlong, but im abit pissed off with it not having the one

Foos Fan Forever | 11/2/2009, 12:41 am EST

My wife will buy the deluxe version for me, to make up for shrinking my favourite foos t-shirt in the drier. You can’t ever have too much Foo Fighters material.

FF Fans | 11/2/2009, 12:50 pm EST

I’m a bit upset because Hey, Johnny Park! isn’t there, but well they have a lot of fuckin good songs, it’s imposible to put everything. the ones who are complaining about: Doa, next year and i’ll stick around. Those songs are going to be on the deluxe edition. on the dvd part

fooed | 11/3/2009, 8:13 pm EST

um DARLING NIKI??!?!?! WTF

Ben | 11/4/2009, 5:13 pm EST

My favorite part is that they didn’t shove stuff off their new albums on there. As good as FF is, their last few albums are a lot more shallow (Good, but a bit shallow).

Honder | 11/5/2009, 5:28 am EST

Most of you think a hit is the same as your personal song. It’s not. A hit is just a track that has been released on single, which sold a lot of records and got a lot of airtime on radio & tv -globally-. It’s a simple formula which guarantees most greatest hits album sales, to increase the chance of non-hardcore Foo Fighter fans who don’t have all/any of the albums will pick it up.

Ramon | 11/8/2009, 7:01 am EST

Resolve?!!?!

drake | 11/12/2009, 7:27 pm EST

they missed alot of good ones. not very happy

bobby d | 11/18/2009, 6:05 pm EST

Music is a business. The record company will make more money if they spread out the “good songs” on 2 or 3 volumes of the “greatest hits”. So, don’t worry if your favorites are not on Volume One. They will show up on Volumes Two or Three.

rod | 11/22/2009, 12:18 pm EST

aurora ??? generator ????
