Madonna Surprises VMAs With Michael Jackson Tribute

What was billed as a special tribute to Michael Jackson starring his sister, Janet, turned into an even more epic performance: Madonna took the stage at tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards to honor an artist she has called “one of the greats.”

In a long, heartfelt speech about her personal relationship to Jackson, Madonna called the King of Pop “a hero,” and reflected on how his early stardom led him to forever search for his childhood. Recalling the moment she learned that he had died, Madonna said, “All I could think about in that moment was I had abandoned him. That we had abandoned him. That we had let this magnificent creature who had once set the world on fire slip through the cracks. Most of us had turned our backs on him. … There will never be anyone like him again. He was a king.”

Madonna added, “There’s a whole lot of crotch-grabbing and Moonwalking going on in my house,” revealing her two songs are huge MJ fans. She ended with a statement that roused the crowd into a standing ovation: “Long live the King!” (Read Madonna’s full speech here.)

Though she didn’t dance tonight, Madonna has always been at home in the VMAs’ spotlight. She set the bar high at the show’s inaugural event in 1984, writhing around in a sexified wedding gown to “Like a Virgin” in a performance that had the crowd literally gasping in shock, her longtime publicist Liz Rosenberg recalled to Rolling Stone. “Madonna took it so much further than anyone knew she was capable of,” Rosenberg said. “Some people thought she was the greatest thing ever, and other people thought she was disgusting.”

See 50 Moments That Changed Rock, including Madonna at the 1984 VMAs.

Her second most-talked-about performance came in 2003, when she broke out “Virgin” once again with pop princesses Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, famously kissing them both before Missy Elliott took the stage and joined the trio for “Hollywood.”

In 1998, she performed a “Shanti/Ray of Light” medley that featured a Lenny Kravitz guitar solo and won Video of the Year for the song’s clip (she took home six Moonmen that year, for “Ray of Light” and “Frozen”). Six years earlier, she opened the show with “Bye Bye Baby” and nabbed two trophies for “Rain.” In 1990, she did “Vogue” in full Marie Antoniette regalia (powered wig, giant fan, huge corsets) and in 1989 she did her share of crotch grabbing during “Express Yourself.” In 1987, the year she scored a win for “Papa Don’t Preach,” she performed “Causing a Commotion” live via satellite.

See all of Madonna’s Rolling Stone covers through the years.

Madonna’s connection to Jackson runs deep. Both artists were quick to recognize the power of music videos and produced some of the most thought-provoking, tightly choreographed clips of all time. When Madonna performed at London’s O2 arena the week following Jackson’s death, one of her dancers dressed like the King of Pop and performed his signature dance moves to a medley of “Billie Jean” and “Wanna Be Startin’ Something.” “Let’s give it up to one of the greatest artists the world has ever known,” Madonna told the crowd. “Michael Jackson. Long Live the King!”

I’m still in tears over Madonna’s speech about Michael. Yes, we abandoned him. Yes, we didn’t realize what we had until it was late. We are all guilty. If only we would have given him this kind of love when he was alive – he still might be with us.

Shamone | 9/13/2009, 9:37 pm EST

The queen of pop hails the kind of pop.

Yes, most abandoned him when he needed them. They didn’t even remember what he had given them.

Sean | 9/13/2009, 9:38 pm EST

And Long Live the Queen! Love Madonna even more now after that

Josh | 9/13/2009, 9:54 pm EST

This is discusting, Jackson was a discusting person and Madonna just finished her career off by supporting him and its discusting that people support a man who spent almost 100 million dollars in settlements to children he molested and then when 1 person false accuses him it all gets swept under the rug as if he never molested anyone. Madonna has kids and any respect anyone had for her just got blow to bits, people who support Jackson don’t buy Madonna albums and the fand she has will puke after listening to that speach.

Nilay | 9/13/2009, 9:56 pm EST

Long Live the King. A sensitive artistic genius; He wrote and composed the soundtracks to our lives.

MonkeyFace | 9/13/2009, 10:02 pm EST

She brought me to tears with her words.

Well said, Madonna. Well said.

yes my man | 9/13/2009, 10:05 pm EST

Oh, please. SAve your tears. Nobody abandoned Michael Jackson. Ady if you think that’s the case, then go to a mental ward and adopt some nut who chooses to be a nut. You’ll feel better and you won’t have “abandoned” anyone.

mikofanclub | 9/13/2009, 10:07 pm EST

let me tell ya JOSh – I buy every MAdonna and every MJJ album…. LUV THEM BOTH FOREVER and there was a time when madonna and michael were friends. Go back to bed honey.

Iron Jim | 9/13/2009, 10:21 pm EST

Outrageous and disgusting. Madonna’s comments, that is. Michael Jackson killed himself by hiring doctors to give him anything he wanted.

If she wants to think she failed him, she can do right ahead.

Felix | 9/13/2009, 10:26 pm EST

America loves to create idols just for the sake of destroying them later and sell tabloids.

The world indeed abandoned MJ because he decided to believe the shocking version instead of giving him the benefit of doubt.

Iron Jim,

Guess her words about us being “judgmental” were lost on you.

Go Madonna.

Madonna… you have just won a place in my heart. How brave of you to stand up and commend Michael Jackson’s genius with all the scandal that followed him around for years. Yes… I do believe we all failed Michael Jackson. His only fault was his incredible generousity and kind spirit and his attempt to heal other people’s pain based upon a life of his own. I can only imagine what his remaining years were like being accused of something you were innnocent of and having the whole world who held you in such high regard totally abandon you. No wonder he died of a drug overdose. How else could he try to ease the pain of his broken heart. I believe God has taken him from us now so we all learn from this tragedy and so we never treat a human being who offered so much to the world with such complete and utter disrespect ever again.

Wow. That was not only the most articulate I’ve ever heard Madonna — that was one of the best speeches by a rock or pop star ever. That there was an honesty about what MJ went through was especially powerful.

Bravo! Best thing at the VMAs in FOREVER!

Joe D. | 9/13/2009, 11:37 pm EST

Does anyone edit articles anymore?? I thought Madonna had two sons.. not two songs — and what is a powered wig? I mean I know we all know what they mean but there’s such a rush to publish within 2 minutes of anything happening it’s like we forgot how to write in English. Good article but take notice to this kinda stuff so I don’t feel like the only nitpicker ;)

walston | 9/13/2009, 11:49 pm EST

OJ was aquitted too, and most people know he slaughtered his wife. Most deep thinkers know Michael hurt many families with his manipulative and devious behaviors. Talented he was, but he also had enormous mental problems.

gossipblonde | 9/14/2009, 12:23 am EST

Madonnas heartfelt articulate tribute brought tears to my eyes.People do not hate. This world will be better if you all took that speech to heart.Good flows back to you.Hate promotes hate.

Kimberly | 9/14/2009, 12:37 am EST

MJ is my hero, I love his artistry, his music and dance. Madonna, I am sorry to say, just wants more face time. She is not a performer on the same genius level as Michael. She’s a non-singer who can hire folks to put on great show, or hire a writer to write a teary speech. There was just way too much about her in that speech that was supposedly for MJ. The dignified thing for her would be to keep quiet. But then I don’t expect her (or Kanye West) to ever keep quiet and be dignified. They both tried to steal the spotlight tonight from others, but Madonna’s speech was far more insulting.

Cristina | 9/14/2009, 12:38 am EST

I think by now, the issue with Michael Jackson’s innocence does not need to be proven anymore. Anyone who watches tv and has a brain, realized already that Michael Jackson was not guilty. There will always be some who won’t believe it, but who cares?
I really am thankful for Madonna for what she had the courage to say.
And I’m lookking forward soo bad to the movie This is it!
Long live the king!

Rammi | 9/14/2009, 12:40 am EST

Enough with Michael and he didn’t have a childhood bull. Everything was handed to this guy and he threw it all away. These are the facts. He was a self indulgent narcissist. Anyone with a thinking brain can figure that out!

I find it funny that now after MJ passing madonna heaps praise on MJ. Michael said about there date that she was a cow and didn`t like her. What a media whore she is..

Anonymous | 9/14/2009, 1:00 am EST

I love the speech. The man had a complicated and sad life. Hopefully he did not hurt anyone. We should let him RIP now and stop all the tributes.

Anne | 9/14/2009, 1:16 am EST

Madonna is awesome! Finally someone told the truth about MJ. He was taken advantage of by greedy jealous people his whole life. He was a sweet innocent fragile vulnerable human being who never hurt a fly. People need to stop letting the media brainwash them about people. The media persecuted and crucified an innocent man.

angie | 9/14/2009, 1:25 am EST

doesnt surprise me that you spent more space writing abour her than about what she said about Michael. and it doesnt surprise me cause rolling stone is so openly anti jackson.

karmagrl | 9/14/2009, 1:25 am EST

Madonna, thank you so much for doing the right thing…others should challenge themselves to walk in your footsteps! Growing up with Michael and Madonna in the 80’s has created so many wonderful memories! My heart is heavy and the world truly is a darker place without Michael J Jackson, I love you!
Peace, light & l.o.v.e. to all of you…

Wendy Fuller Primo | 9/14/2009, 2:33 am EST

This was one of my first thoughts when I heard of Michael’s death.

That the entire world had abandoned him and now we wanted him back.

I never laughed at the jokes
I never repeated the jokes.

MTV / VMA – We have All known, through the years, that he was omitted.

Worse is this is that we Accepted his omission.

How this all Must have hurt this amazing man.

I love Madonna! That is my girl right there. And I know some people hate on her for “making the speech about her”, but that’s part of what I love about her. Madonna has always been the epitome of a star- she loves the limelight. I appreciate the fact that she appreciates our attention so much- if an artist doesn’t like the spotlight then they’re in the wrong business, right? She wins my heart every time. Good tribute.

ace | 9/14/2009, 3:42 am EST

Madonna pays people to write her speeches. Plus she wants the spotlight and cleverly uses the best opportunity to get it. She treats her family like trash, she ridicules her fans behind their backs, and uses people to get whatever she wants.

Anonymous | 9/14/2009, 3:45 am EST

Madonna has regained my respect with this speech. She said what I felt for a long time… I thought that the industry that was created and inspired by his passion and talent, left him behind and abandoned him in need. No one cared and had the guts or will to stand by him!!! No one. I am glad that someone finally said it publicly and said it in front of the starlets of today. They’d be nothing without him! in fact, they are everyday proving to us that they have no talent, respect, knowledge, or s. vivre..

Melody | 9/14/2009, 3:48 am EST

One of the most beautiful, well-put-together speeches ever. The woman is a brilliant writer. I shouldn’t be surprised, her Princess Diana, Gianni Versace, and Herb Ritts speeches were also wonderful and she’s written some wonderful lyrics many times, often on the spot. I guess, like MJ, people will recognize her genius when she’s gone. What a pity because she, along Michael, deserved to be honored in life for all that they’ve done and how they’ve changed pop culture, and culture in general. Instead, they have to live their lives ostracized and attacked for their success. There is no other artist who can understand the level craziness that level of megastardom causes except for Madonna. It was a perfect speech by the Queen for the King.

As much as I love Michael, he would’ve never done that for Madonna had the situation been reversed. Madonna really showed herself to be the bigger person. Thank you for that speech!

rollingbunny | 9/14/2009, 3:52 am EST

Kimberly….It’s a free country, Madonna had a right and a right time to give a tribute. Do remember his family orchestrated that opening segment. You obviously hate madonna, and have a very closed mind and heart. You will never grasp what she said or see the art of her work. That takes some depth!

Melody | 9/14/2009, 3:53 am EST

Madonna does not pay people to write her speeches. She writes them herself and often times writes whole songs, poems, letters, and passages on the spot. Many people who have worked w her throughout the years have stated that repeatedly. She’s an incredibly intelligent person and nothing changes that, regardless of whether people like her or not. It’s too bad some people are so blinded by their hate that they have to fabricate lies in order to justify their hate. Maybe you should read her speech again, especially the part about being judgmental.

Kelly | 9/14/2009, 4:06 am EST

It would have been a surprise except for the timing. He’s dead now. A year ago this would have meant a little more. It would have been a surprise to have not paid tribute to him. Something to bear in mind amongst those who are still alive. That said, she did do a great job of it.

Well, after decades of liking Madonna, she just lost my respect. That was the most selfish, ridiculous example of self-promotion I’ve ever seen. What a waste of 5 minutes!

Fact is that Michael Jackson blew fortunes on his own greedy self and did precious little to do a thing to help his fellow man. And when it all caught up with him all we heard was “waaa, waaa, waaa, the whole world is mean to me waaa, waaa, waaa”

Madonna looked like a fool and sounded like a star-struck teenybopper……oh, wow!……I ate some french fries with Michael Jackson !…..he came to my house to watch videos!……he touched me!……..wow!…..hey world!……..look at me!

(gag…barf…..puke)

john | 9/14/2009, 8:08 am EST

i cant believe some people in this forum would just be as judgemental about these open book celebrities, we are not perfect, always seeing the bad in everything, try look yourself in the mirror you can probably an ugly person.

mike | 9/14/2009, 8:11 am EST

Oh, and one more thing Madonna needs to understand. Michael Jackson grew up with a life of priviledge and excess. Totally unlike millions of kids every morning who live in poverty, go to school on empty stomachs or live in foster homes. Also, if child stardom is so bad, why does Donny and Marie Osmond and a host of many other child stars seem to be able to function normally, have families and careers and do so with humble humility and grace?

Madonna!..you have lots of cash right?…….well, buy a clue for a change and get in the real world and out of the “material” world (pun intended)!

MJ was NO king and certainly not an example of how to live one’s like. All he did was squander his money and opportunities like a spoiled brat.

(end of rant…. eh!) (the “eh” was added for effect cause I’m from Canada….lol)

George | 9/14/2009, 8:13 am EST

Madonnas’s speach was amazing! You could really tell she was speaking from the heart.

Also to all the haters botheting posting comments, digest one thing already: Michael was, is, and always will be the best entertainer that ever lived. Your little comments won’t change the facts.

mike | 9/14/2009, 8:29 am EST

George……puhleaseee….MJ the best entertainer that ever lived?….hahaha…now that’s hilarious!

Musically-wise, he didn’t even come close to the likes of Elton John, Robert Plant, Frank Sinatra, Gene Simmons, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Diana Ross just to name a few of the hundreds of legitimate musical entertainers who actually knew how to do it properly and with respect. Even Garth Brooks and Shania Twain did more for their craft than MJ could have ever hoped to do. And they did so with dignity and self respect instead of the selfish three ring circus of insanity which Michael Jackson chose to live in……(note the word “chose”)

Steve | 9/14/2009, 8:51 am EST

Mike; So true is everything you say. America will go down the drain fast if they believe all that garbage Madonna spewed. Michael never even liked Madonna. Along with Garth, Sinatra, McCartney, and Robert Plant, Let’s not forget Elvis, who blows Jackson out of the water. Here are some facts that can’t be argued with. Elvis -18 billboard number 1’s, Michael-13. In the UK Elvis 21, and Michael 14. Almost 1 million people tour Elvis mansion each and every year; Something that will never happen for any other star ever. In fact, half those are under age 35.

Micheal Jackson is the first the Last undisputed King of POP.

mike | 9/14/2009, 8:55 am EST

Hope;

That’s a typical response from those trying to deflect from the truth.

Want to see real hardship and committment and lost childhood?…go read Shania Twain’s story of what she had to do to keep a roof over her sibling’s heads after her parents died in a car crash. I didn’t see Shania act out like an idiot or whine to the world. Now there’s a role model of how to handle one’s self with dignity and class.
My own girlfriend had to take over the “mom” role after her own mother died of cancer…..her three brothers needed someone to keep the family together as her father was not a big help………today, she’s a successful business manager of a huge car dealership and her three brothers are all businessmen…..nobody drinks, smokes or is on drugs and yet they all could have used a crappy childhood as a convenient excuse.

People like Madonna and Liz Taylor of just enablers in my opinion…and do these drug abusers like MJ a lot more harm than good.

By the way Hope, I own a business myself for over 15 years……one I built with my own hands and own money from the ground up from very humble beginnings. But thanks for your concern anyways.

Daveyd | 9/14/2009, 9:00 am EST

And Mike… your a dickhead! who cares what information crap your giving, no one has ever sold more than Michael Jackson album ‘Thriller’fact!… Greatest entertainer, fact! Do you know anything about Michael Jackson life? No! So dont go there with this, ‘legitimate musical entertainers’ garbage and ‘Michael Jackson growing up with a life of priviledge and excess’ Do you know who pushed him to be like that, during his childhood? NO!, You Jerk! Cant stand people like you who think they know it all! Go stick your comments back in Canada!

Real:

Oh c’mon…. how dramatic eh?
Save the word “hate” for the likes of Charlie Manson, Osama Bin Laden, chia pets and brussel sprouts…

Perhaps us up in Canada are used to seeing our international stars stay humble and never get caught up in the excess of Hollywood and selfishness etc. eg: Jim Carey, Martin Short, Anne Murray, Wayne Gretzky, Steve Nash,Burton Cummings, Celine Dionne, Shania Twain, Michael Buble, Lorne Greene, Shannon Tweed, Gordon Lightfoot, William Shatner, John Roberts (CNN) and hundreds of others. This is not a diss on the USA at all and please don’t think it is, but many of us in Canada just don’t understand how money, stardom and golden opportunities can result in such a wasted life such as what happened to MJ. Yes, he was talented but all the other stuff he did clouded all of that.
What a waste.

Ironically, one of the best examples of how to handle money and fame responsibly is Gene Simmons. I have total respect for the way he and Shannon live their lives and has raised their kids….

This IS a good debate though and one worth having.

Got to go to work now and I certainly don’t want to post too much and dominate the conversation (thanks to “Rolling Stone” for the opportunity to discuss this…..cool forum!)

I’ll leave by mentioning another couple of famous people who have stayed grounded. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. I have been in the same hockey arena as they have been in on a few occasions….both huddling up with their hot coffees in their hands to stay warm just watching their son play goalie up here in Canada like two ordinary hockey parents like the rest of us.

See?..there’s ways to do it right and sadly some like MJ just didn’t think this out properly when given the chance.

Have a great day all!

Mike from Canada

Ba for MJ | 9/14/2009, 10:24 am EST

Wait a minute Josh, Michael Jackson was never convicted of anything. You should watch your language because it borderlines defamation of character.

Since you know everything about everything I like to let you know that I am a MJ fan and I have Madonna albums. So, you obviously are speaking from a very prejudice and narrow observation.

And by the way, when someone pays for something to go away, that never happened, is called extortion. Blood sucking, self-seeking individuals who are only out for money are the ones that should be judged, not Michael.

IF you have children ask yourself this question: “Would you really be willing to take money in lue of justice if something like that happened to your child?”

I don’t think so. So there is your answer. MONEY – IT IS ALL ABOUT THE BENJAMINS BABY – Yet, no one thought about how accusations, of that nature, can effect an innocent man. Because no one cared to think about the outcome. Now Michael’s gone and all those people are living the life of luxury. Really, you have to ask yourself “Who here did the crime????

And if Madonna, a mother, who is as brilliant as she is, is willing to support Michael Jackson than I would think she knows what she is doing because she knows the real truth of the situation and isn’t as ignorant about the situation.

YOU GO MADONNA!!! YOU SAID EVERYTHING I WISHED TO HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SAY TO THE MASS PUBLIC FOR MONTHS AND YEARS NOW. THANK YOU FOR HAVING THE COURAGE, THE GRACE, THE HUMBLENESS TO EXPRESS YOURS AND OUR FAULTS. MAY WE NEVER ALLOW SOMEONE TO EXPERIENCE AS MUCH PAIN AS MICHAEL HAS EXPERIENCE.

WE LOVE YOU MICHAEL. YOU ARE ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS. RIP and in the safety and love of the arms of our Lord.

I think we all have our different views of MJ and we have that right. There are a lot of child stars who grew up and had nothing and some who made the most of it. However, I don’t care if some of you dislike MJ, I don’t care if some of you never cared for his music, however, you have to look at the reality of his musical talent and his legacy in just the entetainment world and you have to give him credit for that. As far as the allegations and what-not, I personally never believed it but that’s just me. Also, everyone is downing MJ talking about he made an excuse for himself about his not having a childhood and whatnot, however, you have to realize that these are people speaking for MJ, he never made any excuses for anything. MJ lived his life the way he wanted to live and he did great and wonderful things for charities, the needy, and the hungry. Now we all definitely know that he was on medication/drugs, whatever, but that doesn’t take away who he is, who he was, and who he will always be. Everyone, including the “greats” have a past and have things that if we knew about none of us, including them would be proud of but you can never ever forget the good or great someone has done because they fell on hard times. Also, the hated and cruel comments are just unnecessary. Frank Sinatra, Elvis, and others were dope heads and alcoholics as well as very very habitual adulteres but they are still loved for their talent and the good that they gave and how they made people feel, so give MJ his shine, his credit, and please let him Rest In Peace. Also, as many of you hate or dislike him, there are double the number of us who loves and respects him. We love you Mike!!!

Heartfelt, honest speech Madonna.

The people who are mocking MJ here appear to favour a particular type of genre. Enough said.

MJ and Madonna are icons and their music will be held in high regard for generations to come. Both innovators and masters of their craft.

RIP Michael Jackson

Woody | 9/14/2009, 12:02 pm EST

MJ a hero? Hardly. People, a hero is somebody like Jake R. Velloza, not a person like Michael Jackson. Don’t know who Jake is? Then, do yourself a favor and google him. Jackson, while very talented, was not in any way a hero.

angelina | 9/14/2009, 12:08 pm EST

Great speech Madonna and it reflected everything I also felt about MJ. He was indeed one of the greats!

Ba for MJ | 9/14/2009, 12:11 pm EST

Hey Mike,

You are wrong, PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

Michael did not grow up in a life of privilege.

Instead:

1. 1 Michael Jackson lived in a four-room home in Gary Indian with 11 people till he was 10 years old.
2. 2 .His father worked as a crane operator and his mother, I read, worked at Sears.

3. Michael did not have his own room or his own bed. Instead, he shared both a bed and a room with his brother(s).

4. Michael would go to school every day, come home, practice all night, go do shows at strip clubs till wee hours in the morning, and then get up to go to school the next day only to do the same thing over and over – for years.

5. As far as his talent goes, when he was 12 (?) years old, he went on the Ed Sullivan show and sang “Whose loving you?” like a person with a soul of the age of 50.

6. He lost his childhood time to hours in the studio.

7. He lost his ability to attend regular schools where he could socialize with other children to having to work all day

8. He probably couldn’t go to a regular school anyway because he would never have a moment’s peace to study since he would be mobbed by a group of people where ever he went.

9. He didn’t go to basketball, football, baseball or soccer games instead he was on planes that took him from one city/state/country to the next in order to perform a show that brought enjoyment/happiness/entertainm ent to everyone that was there to witness it.

10. He never missed a dance step in his routine. Even Fred Astarie remarked on how Michael was such an incredible dancer.

11. Michael’s voice was never off pitch and he his vocals ranging from soprano to high tenor. Do you realize we are talking about the fact that Michael Jackson’s voice was capable of Choir and Opera, never mind just pop music???

12. Michael’s “Thriller” album sold over 110 Million copies alone. We are not talking about his total album sales over his 40 year career (45 if you count the years before he was discovered) including those with the his brothers – The Jackson 5/The Jacksons. It is claimed that this figure is as low as 750 Million albums to 1 Billion albums.

13. Michael has been inducted into the Hall of Fame – TWICE – once as a member of The Jackson 5 and once as a Solo Artist.

14. Michael Jackson is in the Guinness Book of World Record’s for being the artist that has been given the most awards.

So tell me, if Guinness Book recognizes Michael Jackson for being #1 how come you can’t????

Did you know that Michael was not just a singer or dancer?
Michael was more.

1. Michael was an artist who painted and drew, nicely too.

2. Michael was also a poet who was quite profound and moving.

3. Michael wrote his own songs.

4. Michael owned his own production studio.

5. Michael was a mentor to other artists.

6. Michael was a choreographer.

7. Michael was a director.

8. Michael was an actor.

9. Michael was an author.

10. Michael was an inventor. Really, he patented a product.

11. Michael was a businessman.

12. Michael was an investor.

Did you know that,

1. Michael was a lover of fine artwork and knew a lot about sculptures and paintings and loved renaissance art?

2. Michael loved classical music?

3. Michael had such a special quality in him that animals, such as deer – one of the most skittish, timid, and fearful animals around- were able to go to him trusting that he would not hurt them?

4. Michael was a lover of peace and tranquility?

5. Michael had a work ethic that probably puts all of the average person to shame?

And as far as what Michael did with all of his privilege, money, and time over the years did you know that,

1. Michael Jackson has been inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most charitable artist ever?

2. Michael endlessly went to orphanages and hospitals to bring toys and presents to sick children?

3. Michael gave all the money from the Pepsi commercial accident to start a burn unit?

4. Michael was so concerned with the planet he became involved and committed in saving the earth so that our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc. etc. can have a place to live that he founded “Heal the World”?

5. Michael, on many occasions, convinced that some % of profit – from auctions of his belongings – be given to charity?

6. Michael helped children with illnesses by paying for them to get liver transplants and treatment?

7. Michael supported a man, his whole life, who, as a boy, was burned by his father?

8. Michael opened his home for city children, sick children, and underprivileged children to have a place to go and enjoy themselves?

And did you know that Michael loved children from such an early age that he was:

1. Quoted in “Vanity Fair” when he was a teenage that his dream was to adopt many children from around the world?

2. And that when he went on “Soul Train”, with The Jackson’s (back in the early 70’s) his father was being interviewed and a home video was aired where Michael was holding his niece or nephew and Michael’s father remarked how, I paraphrase, Michael has always loved children so much?

So, for all you nay-saying, negative speaking people out there, what I just wrote is a small collection of facts on Michael Jackson. I am only someone who knows OF the person- Michael Jackson. I have never had the privilege to know the person- Michael Jackson.

But, from the facts that I have acquired about the person- Michael Jackson, I would have to say that Michael Jackson was

1. a person of talent, in the truest most complete sense of the word
2. a person of the rarest and most special qualities a person could ever possess.
3. was gentle, kind, loving, caring, brilliant, amazing, generous, hard-working, spiritual, sweet, innocent, pure, insightful and innovating
4. was the most genuine of people
5. was a great thinker
6. was a great inspiration (still is)
7. was a great model (still is)
8. and was a genius

What Michael WAS NOT:
1. Michael was not self-seeking
2. Michael was not monstrous
3. Michael was not evil.

What happened to Michael Jackson was, is, and forever will be TRAGIC.

What we did to harm this man was, is, and forever will be TRAGIC.

But, it wasn’t Michael Jackson who was privileged it was us that was privileged.

rammi | 9/14/2009, 12:17 pm EST

Enough with Michael and he didn’t have a childhood bull. Everything was handed to this guy and he threw it all away. These are the facts. He was a self indulgent narcissist. Anyone with a thinking brain can figure that out!

rammi | 9/14/2009, 12:21 pm EST

Like OJ simpson who was aquitted of slaughtering his wife, yet all thinking people know he did it. Same with Michael and all his deviant behaviors; You just knew and know Michael he was a flawed human being in so many ways. It’s also hard to feel sorry for him , because he was so arrogant and narcissistic in his attitude and approach. Wake up people and get a life..

Great tribute from the Living Queen to the fallen King. Madonna and MJ represent and era of superstardom beyond anyones grasp. They are once in a lifetime performers and Madonna’s speech was moving. Great job.

Anyone here who doubts whether Michael is worthy of the title “hero” needs to go to jacksonaction dot com and click on charities and you will see that Michael was one of, if not thee most, charitable entertainer of all time.

seattlegirl | 9/14/2009, 1:28 pm EST

Please, did no one else hear that speech? Except for the part about everyone abandoning michael, that speech seemed to be about…..Madonna. Go back and take a listen. what a textbook narcissist, she can’t honor a person without bring herself into the mix. how pathetic.

Dawn | 9/14/2009, 1:41 pm EST

People on here seem to forget that MJ was a human being, just like everyone else. He wasn’t perfect. But who is?

I recommend those who think they know it all about his life to go and pick up a book. And I don’t mean a book that feeds you with more tabloid bullshit that you’ve been listening to all these years, but a book by an author who actually knew him, and followed him throughout MJ’s entire years of entertainment.

Read it, and learn the real truth about MJ and how hard his life truly was.

He was a very sensitive individual, and he didn’t choose to take the path he was dealt. I believe that was his father’s doing… not just to MJ though, to all of his kids. MJ just took it a little more to heart because he was very sensitive, and didn’t know how to handle it. He was different, born with talent, and did no harm. It is just a shame he could never learn how to accept himself as an individual more than he could accept his own music.

Don’t compare him to any one else who succeeded and “did it right”. Everyone is different in this world, and MJ will always be remembered for not only his incredible talent, but how different he looked at the world and how he handled such situations. That in its own amazes me about him.

And as for Madonna. Her speech was wonderful, and she couldn’t have said it any better.

It’s just too bad that even after hearing her speech, people can still be so cold hearted and closed minded. Those are the same people who murdered MJ’s spirits, sadly.

RIP King of Pop.

“Everything was handed to the guy”.

Yeah but the question is did he really want “everything”? I guess not. Shows how unselfish he truly was.

And if you define “everything” as money and fame, well, not even that can buy happiness.

He obviously needed something more than that, such as love and friendship. Those he lacked.

The Words that Madonna Spoke of last night in Tribute to Michael Jackson at the VMA’s were compelling and emotional. She made it seen again that Michael wasnt just this Huge Iconic Star, but he was a Father, Son, Brother.. She brought to light that underneath all that drama that followed him for many years, all the Haters and Hatered that was printed stood a man a HUMAN BEING that only wanted to love and be loved.. Like She said, We really dont appreciate something or someone until its gone. The World lost one of its most talented, creative individuals when Michael Passed.. But thru tributes such as the one Madonna gave he will never be forgotten.
I have Always Loved Madonna and Been a Huge, Mega Fan, she is an inspiration to me and many more. I want to say thank you for being my voice and other fans voices in honoring Michael Jackson!!!

Its just amazing how much hate there is in the world.. For the people on here that sent out nasty comments.. did it make u feel good?? did u get your rocks off?? Noone said that you had to like Michael Jackson. Noone said you had to like Madonna.. But when you listen to that speech she gave, it was telling of how she knew Michael and of the moments they shared together.. Its no different than when they did it at the service they had in L.A.

Its just a sad day when you only have time to spew more hate, think about it, type it up and then post.. One has to always remember what you put out in this world, it will come back to you 10 FOLD!!!.. Think about this.. Remember when our mothers would always say.. If You Dont Have Something Nice To Say.. Then Dont Say Anything At ALL!!! Think about that before u post another nasty comment..
Madonna Your Tribute To Michael Jackson was Amazing.. Your Words were Emotional and Compelling.. You truly are an Inspiration To Me and Many Others!!Thanks for the Moment!!

take a look at how your in a huge minority right now. you commenting negatively about the king can just look at how there are only a few of you so your opinion doesnt matter you satanists. michael was a milion times the man you all will ever be because like madonna put it he been a man since he was too small to remember …. he never had a childhood!!!! and i love him and everything that he is. peace out and try to get out of yourselves for him if not for your own good fellow humans!!!!

This is discusting, Jackson was a discusting person and Madonna just finished her career off by supporting him and its discusting that people support a man who spent almost 100 million dollars in settlements to children he molested and then when 1 person false accuses him it all gets swept under the rug as if he never molested anyone. Madonna has kids and any respect anyone had for her just got blow to bits, people who support Jackson don’t buy Madonna albums and the fand she has will puke after listening to that speach.

where is your proof that he settled for millions. its amazing how a dead man can make so many people jealous. get over it and get a life. he was acquitted and we love him and to alll the christians and so called faily oriented people jesus said he that has no sin be the first to stone the adulterous woman. mj was a human not the God people are trying to make him. its disgusting how people speak ill of the dead. where are your manners. madonna was very gracious

Jessika | 9/14/2009, 3:06 pm EST

Where do I even start. I can not believe people are still trying to blame Michael for a crime for which he was aquitted. I am 22 years old I grew up hearing Michaels music, and found myself in tears when I heard that Michael had passed on and thought I should find out more about this gracious human being. I searched the internet for anything that was Michael relatd and stumbled upon a video of Michael visiting a hospital. There was a sick boy there who was going to die, his liver was failing and Micheal became immidiately conserned for the child. He went on a quest to find this child a liver and by the grace of god was able to come throuh and save a childs life. He let people into his home, sick kids, poor kids, kids of all kids and all because he wanted to give to others what he never had himself. How dare you come on here and try to degrade such an innocent and kind soul. Michael was truly wonderful, and that will be reflected through his children for the rest of their lives. They will remember Michael, the man we remember as a lengd, and icon, a king, and a hero as the only dad that they have EVER known. Did you ever think that his kids might be reading your sick comments. You are not god, and you have no right judging Michael. Michael is dead now, his children will grow up without a father and you have no right to tae their fathers innonce away. After all youre the one conveniently hiding behind the computer screen as you pass judgement on a man who changed music, and subsequently changed the world. Michael was one of the first african americans we welcomed into our homes, imagine where we would be, where society would be if not for him. We might all still be sitting in our homes thinking that black people were different just because they appear that way. The world was a better place because of Michael, its sad to see now that hes gone you’re all ready to rip everything he accomplished away from him. None of you will ever amount to what he has none of you will ever be the king of pop none of you are perfect so stop judging. Take a good long look in the mirror and tell me that your perfect and youve never wronged anyone and THEN you can judge Michael. Youre all so quick to call him weird MAYBE just maybe he was normal and the rest of us are as fucked up as they come. He considered others feelings before he acted and all you ignorent people have not done that. I hope you sleep better knowing that your ripping apart someones son, someones brother and most of all someones dad.

AshleyShyrell | 9/14/2009, 3:13 pm EST

ahh…..Anonymous….. Cant even say your name. tsk tsk tsk. Christian this Christian that. Madonna is amazing, year after year she out does herself. She has worked her ass off….Michael Jackson’s death was unfortunate, but he too was amazing. Pushing the envelope if you will. Its close minded people like you that irritate me. Definition of Tribute is “something given or done as an expression of esteem ” Which means, Madonna felt the need to give thanks for someone she believed helped her in one way or another. I applaud that.

v Amen Jessika. I couldn’t agree more.

AshleyShyrell | 9/14/2009, 3:18 pm EST

oh yeah, and to the comment that MJ had everything handed to him. Yeah, sure……bc he had other options as a child? no. He was forced to be an adult and not to enjoy his life as a child. All that he has “spoiled” I do believe someone called it, he had made for himself.

Lori | 9/14/2009, 4:33 pm EST

First, to Jessika: Thank u for ur comments about MJ. I have been a fan more years than I care to admit. Since the early years of J5. Michael always seemed to be such a loving giving spirit. It speaks volumes about human nature that society saw him as weird. We never heard much about his charity. How many of u haters have given ur Time and Energy to someone in need just because it was the right thing to do? Michael did all his life. Are we so twisted that we don’t recognize true goodness? I guess so. Its easier to believe he had sinister motives. The man was hounded into an early grave and even in DEATH gave 40% of his estate to charities. Finally, whoever was trying to call MJ “discusting”: the word is “disGusting” with a G not C. Get a clue. RIP MJ

Once again just like in Michaels ‘Thriller” the brainless zombies are crawling out of their uncomfortable graves to spew fourth and dribble their ill informed, laugh out loud and very embarrassing views. MJ fans rejoice that these zombies will forever be walking around in cicles bumping into one another and dribbling on their own feet and all the time whining “Brraains! We want braaiins!….”
The opposite of ‘thin’ my brainless friends is……THICK.
Tag! You’re it!

The one thing I really loved about Mike? His sense of humour.
RIP MJ.

Michael Jackson will be remembered for being the greatest entertainer that ever lived…you see, he’ll be remembered for actually,”HAVING A LIFE”. Hmmm, let’s see… what will all you mj haters be remembered for?… if remembered at all…

There’s nothing more rewarding than holding the key to a fellow ultraphenomenon in entertainment’s treasured legacy-especially if it’s a loved one-& Miss Jackson not only proudly owned it, she PRESENTED it. Overall, Miss Jackson proved real legends-let alone “The Ultraphenomenon” Michael Joseph Jackson-plus real r&b & pop music never vanishes…It rises from the ashes like a phoenix for a remarkable eternity.

Real talk. *nods & smiles*

Once again, Lady Madonna was heartfelt, sad, brokenhearted and gracious. I never was a fan of Michael but I am glad Madge put a human face to the star, Like Michael is his vulnerable and sadder moments (Out of My Life,
Human Nature, Man in Mirror,
Gone Too Soon), MADONNA HAS HAD SOME MOMENTS WHICH ARE INCREDIBLY SAD, TOUCHING AND ABOVE ALL, HARROWING (Live to Tell,
Promise to Try, Something to Remember, Rain, Take a Bow,
You Must Love Me, Drowned World
-Substitute for Love, Gone,
X-Static Process, How High?
and Incredible). Like she cried,
none of us as human beings know what we really appreciate until we lose it all. Upon the speech that Madonna gave so heartffelt and sad, I coul hear the sadness in her voice and I am reminded of Steve Earle’s album The Hard Way
-here’s what he writes-”Some of the people are trying. Some of the people have given up. Some of the people are, well-out there. But we are all people! People living in a society that equates money, status and power with dignity
-when in most cases, nothing could be further from the truth. The more you have, the harder its is to appreciate it. Find another dream-fast!” The main difference between Miss Ciccone and
Mr. Jackson is that after Michael became famous, he wasn’t allowed any sanity anymore-constantly under the spotlight glare and he just became more introverted scrutinized. After the molestation allegations, I just knew in my heart that Michael was going to die because he just checked out on living-I JUST KNEW THE COMEBACK WAS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! MADONNA, ON THE OTHER HAND
-after the Blonde Ambition/Sex period-knew what to do-She turned her life around with motherhood, Evita, Ray of Light,
the Confessions and Sticky and Sweet performances and became a Queen and Lady that she will always be and has become. Once again, thanks Madge for being heartfelt and the brilliant lady you are! I love you!

BA for Mj, thank you, yes, he was all of those wonderful things, I feel as you do. Hats off to Madonna for s STUNNING tribute that captured the essence of a wonderful, beautiful man and King, Michael Jackson. I can’t believe the idiots who say she was self serving, she was talking about what she had in common with MJ and their relationship, however short and sweet. She sure got it right when she said we never appreciate something fully until we lose it. Michael was loved by so many and learned from the greats, and if we are smart, he can and will teach us so much. Truly a GENIUS, truly a gentleman, truly someone we should all try to emulate in deeds and actions in most of the things that he did for humanity. Long live Michael Jackson, the KING of Pop, who had real class and style!

We live in a world where soo many people these days are miserable and unhappy with thier own lives. That’s why you always see people posting negative things. They are miserable and they have to vent their misery onto others. Michael was and is the greatest entertainer that ever lived. Hands down! And that tribute that Madonna gave about Michael was appropiate and heartwarming and it was fit for a King. And it is soo true that the people that were in his life let him down and they let him slip through the cracks when he needed serious interventions. They all should feel guilty for that. But Micheal will forever remain the King and the “baadest” entertainer that ever lived! When someone says otherwise, it is obvious that either they don’t know a musical genius when they see one, or they just want to vent hateful remarks for whatever their reasons; whether its because of being racist, or being ignorant, or being miserable, or being all of the above.

This is not a negative comment about Michael; It is just the truth. Check everywhere.. He is numbewr 15 in terms of record sales in the USA.. These are facts, not negative statements. Accept them, and move on..Stop idealizing this troubled man

Lorraine | 9/15/2009, 2:29 pm EST

He was trouble, because people and the enablers made him that way.
It was a most enduring tribute to MJ. Madonna you go girl! Mj. would have been so moved by your tribute to him. When I saw the trailer I was so sad that he never got to go to the 02 arena. His kids would have been over the moon to see their Dad.

Anne | 9/15/2009, 2:45 pm EST

Madonna’s speech was awesome and powerful and absolutely true! She was the only one with his stature in the music industry who could have done this. I cried all the way through it and sent it to everyone I know and posted it everywhere just in case anybody missed it. If only MJ knew how much we loved him.

I am a 54 yo white lady who has enormous compassion for this sensitive sweet soul who was exploited from the time he was 5 years old by his family, friends, corporations, the music industry, doctors, the media. Everyone wanted to make money off him. He was treated so cruelly in his life. We should all be ashamed. The rest of the world always loved him.

That speech was magnificent. She radiated love for Michael and highlighted the feelings we all felt ,the devastation the desperate need to connect with him once again.when he passed nothing could quench the thirst we had and always will have for one who surpassed all others. She felt him .she got him ,who he was and what he represents to us as human beings and how we must stop this witchhunt .because she knows what it feels like .No one can take that away from her.We are losing all the great stars.the ones with grace and integrity and she shows that you can be an artist and can be human too .The tears that rolled down my face when janet danced in defiance for her brother and herself .A well chosen song that says it all.All she wanted to do was scream because she wanted her brother back and so do we .

Madonna’s speech was such a fitting tribute and so truthful. She said the things so many have forgotten or ignore, and there’s no one except Janet, who could have said it in order for people to listen. MJ was one of a kind, to never be repeated again.

Thank you Madonna from one of your grateful fans from the beginning
and…

LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!

Madonna’s honorary tribute to Michael Jackson spoke from her heart with sincere truth, beauty, and love, and I am grateful . . . the greatest Queen pays highest tribute to the greatness of the King. Madonna’s appropriate tribute acknowledges and appreciates the unique magnificance, unearthy enlightened and gifted human being Michael Jackson was.
Madonna reminds us how privileged we are to have been in Michael’s presence throughout his life time. Michael Jackson shared his life with us with his inspiring creative gifts of music and dance by simply allowing himself to receive the connection of the universe and step into the flow of the never ending dance of life. I am grateful Michael Jackson was alive during my lifetime, and appreciate the goodness, enlightenment, truth, beauty and love he gave throughout the world by living his life with us. Michael Jackson will live forever in his music, dance and his children, and continues to live in our hearts forever . . .
I am grateful Madonna continues to grace us with her presence, and I acknowledge and appreciate Madonna’s unique life with gifts of music, art, and dance throughout the world, continues to manifest and contribute goodness and enlightenment throughout the world.
I am grateful Madonna gave such a thoughtful, respectful and high tribute to Michael Jackson. In Madonna’s tribue to Michael Jackson, I see now how clearly both Madonna and Michael are our teachers in the dance and celebration of life here on earth; enlightened beings.
I believe that the qualities Madonna recognizes in Michael Jackson are a reflection or mirror of those same qualities existing in Madonna. May we acknowledge and appreciate Madonna’s unique gifts and life with us during her life time with us here on earth; right here right now.

There is only one GREAT and that is GOD.what I’m sayin is that MJ is just doing what supposed to be done for the world and that is by doing and giving LOVE because this world is full of hatred. And that’s what the rest of the world see in him and that is an inspiration and for what is happening now we need someone like MJ to open our minds. is’nt that so hard to understand?.Why do people always look at the negative side?.I love him.I am a fan because of his music and then my love to him intensifies because he is humanitarian and spreading peace and love to the world.AND THAT’S WHAT MAKE MJ THE GREATEST OF ALL!in a human stand point.HE IS A VERY RARE GEM!.HE STANDS IN WHAT HE BELIEVED!.so sad that he is not around anymore.

a couple of things, Michael was so extremely talented and exploited by so many, his family and friends. he like so many others, ended up with serious problems as a result of his success; however it still saddens me to think of his obession with those children. he was aquitted, but why did he pay those families so much money? think it makes him look guilty. ultimately, the parents of those children had no business letting their children spend the night with him; so what ever happened – not sure we will ever know, the real issue is lack “accountability” and “responsibility” – not only did all of the “grown ups” let Michael down, but he let himself down. It’s all soooo sad.

Man in the mirror | 9/16/2009, 11:34 pm EST

A very, very touching tribute by both Madonna and Janet……. especially after the song and dance, Janet put her hand together, looked up and said something. I watch it 5 times and each time, I cried…..and still does

Michael, you are loved by millions around the world. RIP Michael…..

For all those haters, go listen to the song “Man in the Mirror”.

Thank you lovely folks for posting such moving and enlightening comments about Michael. It’s so good to see how many of us are thinking with our hearts. The lack of true coverage on MJ is deafening. The media has done so little to rectify their errors in judgment; even Oprah did no research on Michael for her show on him yesterday. Just know that we will sing, dance and laugh with Michael one day again, when it’s our time to go—even those of you, who don’t know him yet or are choosing to stay ignorant. Blessings to Madonna, and to you all.

Deborahffrench | 9/17/2009, 4:04 pm EST

The truth is coming, it is hard to be patient, but it is coming.
Michael was totally innocent of the crimes alleged and anyone who has bothered to do any research on the circumstances of 1993 and 2005 knows it. It is indeed a choice to stay ignorant.

Lady Di | 9/17/2009, 4:07 pm EST

Beautifully stated, Cat, on 9/13. That is the situation wrapped up so clearly in a few sentences. If we’d realized when he was alive what a gem the universe had sent us, he never would have felt the pain that drove him to the prescription drugs that eventually took his life. I hope we never forget that a true talent like Michael should never be treated like our culture’s celebrity of the moment and then discarded and dogged.

melissa | 9/17/2009, 4:36 pm EST

What the Hell!! You people are not thinking straight there was not even proof micheal did those things ok, adn his life was fucked up though his dad work him to that point and the alligations didnt help unless you find proof he is more fuck up than the rest of us then he just falls short of being perfect ok,so just chill on the passing of judgment ok, yall know better

myself | 9/17/2009, 7:43 pm EST

I agreed 100% with what madonna had to say about MJ. Him chasing his lost childhood, how he was abandoned by some, and that we don’t know what we have until we lose it. She nailed it. His contributions to the world & the world of music will never be forgotten. long live the KING!

Anne | 9/18/2009, 9:44 am EST

Madonna said “Then, the witch hunt began and it seemed like one negative story after the other was coming out about Michael. I felt his pain. I know what it’s like to walk down the street and feel like the whole world has turned against you. I know what it’s like to feel helpless and unable to defend yourself because the roar of the lynch mob is so loud that you are convinced your voice can never be heard. ”

Michael Jackson was an innocent man whose career and reputation were destroyed by the media. The music industry blackballed him. The public and all his celebrity friends that he helped so much for years abandoned him. I am devastated at his loss just on the verge of his spectacular comeback.

Zena | 9/19/2009, 3:01 pm EST

I never have abandoned MJ but I’m now tiered of having to defend him after having done that for over 20years of my life against spiteful and ignorant people who are so blinded by hate that they can’t convey the benefit of doubt for someone they’ve never known. Anyways, now that MJ is finally at peace, I shall rest as well because no one can ever hurt him again – so haters voice your vicious minds but none of you can deny his global impact both in the realm of entertainment and humanity!

MJ is a universal icon who was a paradigm shifter of global culture and used his success not only to delight people on stage but aided those in need all over the world.

None of you will accomplish half the things this man has done or be half the man he was so stop speaking ill of the dead and move on with your lives.

MJ – I miss you and continue to love you, forever and ever!

You have no idea what Michael Jackson did on this planet and how much he gave to millions both musically and charitably. Do your research or get off this page. You speak from a place of profound ignorance.

Blah blah.. who cares what you think of Michael. He has problems just like everybody else. You have the right to voice your opinion but the pedophile thing is getting old..so old. He didnt do it. Why would you accept money from someone who molested your child? Oh you molested my child but give me a few millions and we can call it a day.??? What idiots and haters you are. Enough with you losers that live in your moms basement. R.I.P Michael. Whenever people have a genius on their hands we must always find a way to tear them down. Pathetic. Get your own life. None of your business how he spent his money. He had it..bet you dont have nearly as much. Plus, he cared about the world. He donated millions to numerous charities. Instead of criticizing him, you should follow his example and help those in need. Hope GOD has a place for evil people like yourselves.

Love you Michael! Just discovered your music shortly after you died and I am so addicted! Long Live the King. We will marry once I reach heaven. You were such a stand up guy. :)

If I may, I’d also like to add some words here. Rabbi Schmuley has recently released for sale some tapes he recorded of Michael Jackson. Schmuley says they were made with Michael’s full agreement, for the purpose of putting out a book. He says they were done as part of Michael’s desire to ‘bring the American Family Together.’ Noble sentiments indeed; except for the fact of this is nothing more than a transparent lie by Schmuley to convince grieving fans to hand over money. These taped recordings were part of ongoing ‘therapy’ between Schmuley and Michael. They were never intended for release and not intended to be sold. Many therapists tape their sessions, it saves on copious note-taking. On the parts of the tape I heard, you can clearly hear Michael answering questions Schmuley ‘feeds’ him, followed by ‘advice’ from Schmuley. These are clearly private therapy sessions by Michael, who may or may not have been ‘using’ at the time, and is pretty famous for being duped by people. A leading Rabbi – not Schmuley, has gone on record on the Huffington Post to state how huge this trangression of Rabbi Judaic code is. This is a dishonourable breach of trust and confidence by Schmuley. He and Michael parted ways in 2003 when Michael was charged – Schmuley did not support him. I urge true fans -whether recent or long-standing to prove their intergrity and affection for Michael by NOT buying this shameful book. Has nobody questioned why Schmuley chose to convieniently highlight those parts of the tape that concern Madonna and Hitler (a perennial favourite,) on the eve of the sale of tickets for the This Is It film? How does this relate to bringing the American family together? There is a saying: you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all of them all of the time. These tapes amount to a shameful theft of someone’s words, thoughts and feelings before they have had a chance to revise, think about, or possibly even change them. And Schmuley asks us to believe he did with Michael’s consent? In the aftermath of Michael’s death, I know many long to hold onto him and think that perhaps hearing him is a way to do that. I also hear a lot of talk about who is a true fan, and who is not? Please do not support the continued exploitation of Michael’s memory. Schmuley is an opportunist – and he plays the part of Michael’s friend like an true expert. Please do not help him profit from Michael’s death.
