After 85 shows performing songs from Hard Candy and her 26-year catalog, Madonna has wrapped her Sticky & Sweet tour with a pair of gigs at Israel’s Yehoshua Gardens. All told, the numbers for the singer’s year-long global trek are jaw-dropping: $408 million grossed, more than 3.5 million fans attended and 32 countries hit, according to Live Nation, the tour’s producer. The figures make Sticky & Sweet the highest-grossing tour every by a solo act, and the second-highest grossing trek of all time. Madonna even broke her own record: 2006’s Confessions tour held the honor of most successful solo tour with a $194 million gross. Take a bow, indeed.

“Sometimes getting onstage is the easiest thing in the world,” Madonna tells Rolling Stone in our new issue. “Other times, it’s like, ‘Can someone please hit me with a stun gun?’ “

Rolling Stone was there when Madonna’s tour hit New York on its second U.S. stop last October, and when the Material Girl played an exclusive club show with Justin Timberlake to debut Hard Candy tracks (check out photos from the tiny gig here.)

Madonna’s next project is greatest-hits set Celebration, which is due later this month. Earlier this week, she unleashed a video for one of the collection’s two new songs, “Celebration,” produced by Paul Oakenfold. Watch the clip and get the full Celebration track list.

I saw this tour stop in Houston last year and it was an impressive show.

Yes, she lip synched through parts of it, but it was still an amazing production.

How many female artists in popular music could headline a tour of this magnitude in 2009?

The concert was awesome and fun. U won’t see Mariah, Whitney or Janet pulling off such a great show and sales figures.

I saw this tour stop in Miami – it sucked, compared to her last 3 tours. Her voice was shot, there was nowhere near the excitement and energy of prior tours and it was a completely overblown production (oh, and she made us wait over 2 hours before hitting the stage). Stadiums? Nope – she’s much more suited for an arena show. Although I doubt I’ll spend the money to see her again.

I think her daughter will e an even bigger whore than Madonna!

OLDwhoreNEWwhore | 9/3/2009, 11:12 am EST

These are numbers you can’t argue with. Madonna is a legend.

That was the best way to end the Sweetest Performances she has evere given. Lola and Rocco love being in the spotlight because their mother, Lady Madonna is a natural when it comes to singing, dancing, Playing and Crying. Madonna is an emotional performace artist that when she get wrapped up in a ballad, she’ll cry and when she dances in a dance anthem, the only thing she’ll do is smile.
As she happily cries in Heartbeat
-”I feel it in my heartbeart/It may be old to you but to me it feels new…when I dance I feel free/I am the only one…that’s what music’s for!” Well said, Madge! May you continue to inspire me with your beautiful songs and approach to life. I love you!

YAWN!!!!!!!!!!! | 9/3/2009, 12:59 pm EST

Why is the two bit slut considered an icon???

transoniqjohnny | 9/3/2009, 1:30 pm EST

“Lip-synch”? $408 million for SHIIIIIIIIIIIITE! Anyone who spends a quid on this rubbish is foooookin’ stooooopid. Kunt take this anymore!

Last. | 9/3/2009, 1:34 pm EST

Madonna is the last legend/Icon.

Blanco | 9/3/2009, 1:35 pm EST

she started her concert here 2:10 hour late, DID not sing (playback) for a little less than 2 hours and charges bigger $ than others famous live performers …
she´s got records only because of amount charged !!
will never see her again …
(from Brasil)

Madonna rules, end of story.

tmatthews | 9/3/2009, 3:45 pm EST

I have seen her a few times, this was not the best tour but she is talented and looking forwars to what is coming next

Kip | 9/3/2009, 4:34 pm EST

She has the record for most dead roadies.

Not-a-fan | 9/3/2009, 4:37 pm EST

MADONNA never lip synched the whole show. There are just vocal suppots and pre-records. And if you count them, you can’t get above 10 minutes. If you don’t believe me open some videos on youtube! And hey, she’s a showgirl, she danced and danced for 2 hours! Please don’t be unfair!

Uh-huh | 9/3/2009, 6:52 pm EST

Suck on that, haters. Especially the haters that like to make inappropriate jokes about minors.

EEM2009 | 9/3/2009, 7:12 pm EST

MADONNA IS THE FUCKING QUEEN OF POP!!! END OF STORY!!!

Reality | 9/4/2009, 1:38 am EST

OF COURSE, it grossed hundreds of millions. Madonna tickets cost hundreds of dollars, and there is no shortage of suckers handing over credit cards to see lip syncing.

esterwawa | 9/5/2009, 4:35 pm EST

QUEEN OF FLOP: Madonna !!!
Making a lot of money says nothing about real success and quality..!! Madge got records only because of amount charged!! In 2009 Madonna made 85 million $, TINA TURNER 80 million $. But Madonna’s Tour lasted much longer and the ticket prices have been much higher.
TINA did a sell out tour and wasn’t booed at any show. No delays – not even for the DVD taping – and no cancellations. No roadies died. No lip-syncing. More than two hours high-end entertainment (M: 100 minutes minus some long video interludes). Inspiration, fun and enthusiasm. Real emotions and interaction with the audience!
That all isn’t the case with Madonna!!!!!

Brian | 9/5/2009, 7:42 pm EST

Madge will always rule! So sorry haters…
Jealousy can be an ugly thing.

Rabbitbunny | 9/7/2009, 4:58 pm EST

Beautiful songs+Inspired music
=A modern-day Mozart-MADONNA!

Eamon | 9/8/2009, 11:03 pm EST

Madonna.

lil | 9/9/2009, 9:06 pm EST

SHE TOURED FOR 2 YEARS, DID ALMOST A HUNDRED SHOWS…why are they counting it one year? More cheating from Madonna

REAL FACT !!!!! | 10/3/2009, 8:47 pm EST

DOUH !!! little idiots, Madonna was exactly 8 months in 85 shows and she earned 408 million dollars in total.
Another singers need to make more than 140 shows to eran at least 300 million dollars.
Thate she is not for stadiums ??? LOL that’s the most stupid thing I’ve ever read. In fact, most of the shows were in giant stadiums !!! and sold out and in the major part of the tour the tickets wer sold – out immediately in a record time !

Obviously Madonna haters are just saying lies , ANOTHER CHEATING from Madonna haters, they are jealous of her success, that’s all.

But well…….. you must be northamericans hahaha, Madonna does not need USA for being the biggest, she may do whatever in US and you may say whatever , but MADONNA is still the biggest selling female artist and the maximum female ICON of music hahaha, thing that your stupid hip hop & rap singers would never get :D hahaha , but well people from US are so dumbass, they always criticize another people and watching the news of a person they hate, but keep making her so HUGE, hahahahahaha what a losers, why don’t you get a job or something hahaha. American society sucks hahaha OMG !!! they are pure trash, if not, that’s why people from US is the most hated in the world and they are so trashy people, WHAT A LOSERS THEY ARE !!! JEALOUS OF EVERYONE, I’m glad Madonna leaved US, she has turned into the most successfull female north american woman in the world, while are her haters are just dying of envy
